Davis Estates was the wife's and my first stop on our tour of Napa wineries. We had reserved the Napa Cave Tour & Wine Tasting ($125/person) for a Monday morning. Davis Estates took my breath away as we drove up. The winery and surrounding vineyards nestled against the mountains were picturesque and made a wonderful first impression. It almost seemed like we had been transported back to Napa Valley a century ago with the rural, rustic architecture of the buildings on the property. However, outside appearances were definitely deceiving as the interiors were a blend of ultra-modern and the rural rusticity. Being from Las Vegas, I would even go as far as to say that there were some Vegasy touches like the beautiful works of art such as Chihuly glass pieces on display and the Cellarium, a beautifully designed, ultra-exclusive, private tasting room behind a biometric-locked vault door. After being guided around the property by our gracious host, Amy, we were taken to the large tasting room and seated on the patio with an amazing view overlooking the vineyards. We enjoyed a tasting of several of their current releases of differing varietals accompanied by food pairings from the estate's outstanding chef. The selection of Davis Estates' wines that we tasted were all excellent on their own, but having them paired with a thoughtfully prepared selection of delicious bites elevated them through the roof. Both the wife and I love to cook and, needless to say, we drew a lot of inspiration from the wines and how they paired so well with a variety of food. There are many wonderful wineries throughout the valley. Yes, there are less expensive tastings available at other properties, but if you're passionate about both wine AND food, then Davis Estates is for you. Beautifully hosted tasting at Davis Estates today. The tasting started with quick tour of the estate. We saw the og barn from the 1910's that was moved to a new pad and expertly remodeled. Personal gifts given between Mike and Sandy are dotted throughout the tour. The caves are some of the most impressive I've seen while being in wine country, with a cellarium that can be accessed with hand print signature. Reserved for their Phase V members, the cellarium offers a private and unique tasting experience for those looking to be wowed. The tasting continued upstairs, past more art, like a Monet and Picasso, to the balcony overlooking the Calistoga region. The food was expertly prepared to showcase all the wine had to offer. Our host allowed us ample time to enjoy the wine without being over the top or pushy. We walked out with a few bottles that allowed one of tastings to be comped. Our visit to Davis Estates Winery was nothing short of spectacular! We came to experience the Napa Cave Tour & Tasting, which also featured a food and wine pairing. We were welcomed with rosé upon arrival, then we toured the stunning estate, and even barrel-tasted an upcoming release. Then we sat down for our pairing: a Chardonnay with coconut and red lentil soup, Merlot with Soba Noodles, a red blend with Indian Spiced Cauliflower, and Oakville Cabernet with Wagyu New York Strip. Every bite and sip was designed to enhance the other. We even got to try off-menu wines and compare them with other wines in our pairing. I rarely give 5 stars, I have to say after a few visits here ... they have really earned it. We had Stephaine 2 years ago and she remember us like an old friend we were catching up with. My friend and I did a tasting here and we found it to be very beautiful, warm and inviting. We were taken on a beautiful tour and filled in of all that Davis Estates has to offer and their story. We were given a tour of the different buildings and various art and design elements, stunning and beautiful. Our tasting was, arguably, when of the most exquisite tastings I've ever done. I believe it was 6 wines that we tasted, we tasted a couple that weren't on the list, the ones that were, were served with Elegant bites straight from the kitchen. The food pairings worked perfectly with the tasted wines. We were tasting next to an original Picasso! Our host was magnificent, kind and knowledgeable. We came here with 10 people for a birthday and were greeted with glasses of rosé at the door, taken on a tour of the cave, and had the opportunity to barrel taste from an upcoming release. Paired very well with the wines. Wine on its own were also great. My faves were the chardonnay, merlot and Pinot noir. The winery is on the pricier end in terms of both tasting and bottles but it's worth it. Modern with a little bit of rustic vibes. Our hostess was amazing. Why don't more people know about this place? Well, it's reasonably new and is intentionally not really marketing itself. They see less than 90 people per day. But wow... The property is well laid out with great views. There's a functioning windmill (that's why there's one on the label) and rare art (you didn't know you were going to a museum). And a Big Ass Fan in a man-cave barn (you'll have to see it for yourself.) The food pairing was incredibly tasty with a variety of small bites. My compliments to the Chef who was cooking live on property. The staff is friendly, accommodating without being intrusive. Thanks Pete! Of course, this is a winery so you should care about the quality of the wine as well. I'm impressed, especially for a new winery. My favorites of the day were the Pinot and Cab Franc. My visit to Davis was for a food a wine pairing, that was individually crafted, complete with a personalized menu with each guest's name adorning the top. Although the menu was not vegetarian friendly, the in house chef made my pairing so! Talk about accommodations! The starter of tomato basil soup was heaven in a cup... blanketed with a swirl of basil creme fresh and parmesan croutons. I enjoyed it so much, that they even were kind enough to give me the recipe!!! The wine paired with our four courses was divine. Expertly crafted, and one even gave the aroma of a exquisite floral fragrance... lavender. One like I not experienced previously. Simply delightful. The wine pairing is very personalized, and intimate. This is not your standard tasting experience. It was lovely one of a kind affair. I took my partner to Davis Estates for a food and wine pairing for his birthday and we were absolutely impressed by every aspect of the tasting. This property experienced damage during one of the wildfires that plagued 2020 and it could be seen on the north side of the property. However, it did not detract from the beauty of the property from the viewpoint of the tasting terrace nor did it sour our visit in anyway. Observance of proper COVID protocol and safety measures also made us feel at ease. Erin, who guided our tasting, was knowledgeable, personable, and made us feel welcomed. At no point did we feel rushed, judged for our appearance (young & brown), or pressured into purchasing wines. However, we loved the wine and experience so much (we even bumped into Mike, the owner, on our way out!) that we were COMPELLED to join the wine club. We walked away with our first four bottles and will definitely be back for another tasting, via our wine club membership. read more

I took my friends from out of town for the chef's tasting experience (95$) and it was absolutely fabulous. Everyone was very impressed. The food pairings were great and the wine was delicious. I attached our menu. The food is meant to compliment the wine and not be a full meal, so expect to eat a meal before or afterwards. Brandon Davis was our host. It was great learning about the history of the winery and how they survived one of the recent California fires. The wines were fantastic!!! Each wine was served with a food dish prepared by their on-site chef. It really helped to bring out the taste of the different wines. We enjoyed it so much, we ended up joining their wine club. We proceeded to hear a bit about the property, the history, the fires, etc. A few photos were shared from those fires, and he gladly took some photos without prompting. Seeing the "barn" and the cellars was lovely - a great story, nice tech, beautiful space and elegant. Seeing all of this was a highlight, accompanied with the narrative. Upstairs we were seated outside with great views, bites, and wine -- all of which were perfectly paired and very well explained by Tyler. We weren't rushed, and made to feel at home at all times.
