Tank Garage is such a fun and whimsical hidden gem! Their labels are works of art in themselves, and the wines are delicious, approachable, and so much fun to discover. We loved Pizza Joint so much that we bought three bottles! Head Over Heels, a unique Gamay-Pinot blend, was perfect for the hot weather yesterday, and Peep Show was another great choice for poolside sipping. Dirty Looks was a smooth and unexpectedly delicious find as well. We loved them all and purchased 7 bottles they were all so great! Will was such a great host--he really knows how to explain the wines while adding color and personality to the stories behind them. He made the tasting even more enjoyable! We've now been to both their Paso Robles and Calistoga locations, and both are super cool, with incredibly fun decor and settings. Tank Garage is a winery I've been dying to explore. Their collection of wines, along with the artwork on the bottles, is unique and unapologetic! To find a place that creates for the mischievous misfits speaks my language. Yesterday, I received an email from Tank about their wines. Since it's my birthday month and I'm on a mission to purchase unexplored wines for my escape, I decided to check out their site. I'm not a fan of shipment costs so I elected for pickup. Since I'll be in the area this month, I shot an email inquiring about their pickup process. Ed was on it! He responded instantly around the 8p hour, I was shocked and greatly appreciative. This morning I revisited the site, to check out their membership. Receiving an email about a shipping promo, I was on it to register and check out for shipping, but got side tracked. Ben from Tank checked in on me via text to see if I needed any assistance with my order or questions about membership. I'm definitely visiting Tank for pickup. The superior service I have received thus far beckons me to meet their team. As of today, I am officially a member of the Tank Garage Winery fam and will be picking up my placed order in a couple weeks. We stopped by on a Friday because I've always seen how cool Tank winery looks driving by, but had never been. It has great decor and vibes inside with a good amount of seating. Not only do the bottles have such a cool and unique design, but super tasty wine. We tried a variety of wines and I ended up joining their membership, so hopefully I can visit their spot in Paso Robles as well. I visited Tank Garage Winery for a tasting by myself on a Tuesday and it was not busy at all. unfortunately, it was one of the least welcoming tasting experiences I've had in Napa Valley. I sat at the bar, and the person pouring my wines seemed completely uninterested in engaging with me. I tried to make conversation a couple of times--for example, mentioning that my in-laws live on a vineyard in Rutherford and later that I had just returned from tasting wines in Italy when we were discussing Italian wines. Both times, the conversation simply ended, with no follow-up questions or interest. When I mentioned that I generally don't enjoy white wines and asked for guidance, rather than offering a recommendation or helping me find something I might like, I was simply told to "pick from the back" of the menu. The pours were quite small, and several of the wines were very acidic and one pour I had to pour out with nothing else offered or suggested that I might enjoy more. Whether they were actually that sharp or whether the cold, impersonal atmosphere amplified the experience, I left disappointed. Napa is known for warm hospitality and knowledgeable staff who enjoy sharing wine with guests. Sadly, that wasn't my experience here. I wouldn't return based on the service alone. But the wine wasn't that great either.. you can find much better wines in Napa for the price point they charge here.. read more

This place is so fun! This has connections with James Cole and the labeling to wine and names of the wine are risqué and bold. The staff was super friendly and chilled out. They had our name on a chalk board to welcome us. They were so good about sending reminders via text. The vibe of this place is super chic and cool. It's the Trader Joe's of wines - you might not find the same wine when you come back again. The red blends were amazing - I got 2 of them that I really enjoyed - Expression Sound and Flesh x Stone. I made a reservation for my birthday weekend for just my girlfriend and I. We were greeted by Hannah and she sat us down even though we were 30 minutes early. She was very friendly and knew a lot about the wine selection we had. She talked us through the blends they chose, the regions the grapes are from, and the flavor profiles that come through. She even explained their graphic designs on the bottles and the history of the establishment and its decor. They were unfortunately out of the charcuterie boxes but the chips she offered us instead were actually very delicious and paired quite well with the wine we had. Truthfully, out of the four wines we tasted, we did not find one specifically that really nailed our palate. They were very refreshing and there weren't any BAD wines, but just none we wanted to take home with us. I would be open to trying more at a later date and see if there is one for us. The vibe that they have curated at their location is immaculate and honestly would bring me back just because of that alone. Although we didn't leave with any wine, we did buy some merch. Tank Garage Winery is, in fact, in a converted old gas station garage, which perfectly illustrates Tank's creative and un-standard view on wine and how to present it. They have 30 different types of wine in circulation at a time, but once it's gone, it's gone, so any time that you visit, you're bound to find something fun and new to try. Tank Garage is located downtown Calistoga and offers a 5 wine tasting menu. The first four are set ahead of time but the last taste is dealer's choice based on what your regular drinking preference is and what you gravitated toward in the beginning part of the tasting. We met with Conory who was a fabulous host! He had great knowledge about their wine making process, stories about where the label inspiration came from, and what notes to pick out when tasting. While the wines were good, they weren't enough for me to leave raving about the experience. Also, their wines change weekly/monthly. It's no lie when they say they have some cool wines, this place is dope. A very hip and cool place to taste some delicious wines. My husband and I stopped in for their lubrication tasting. Make sure you make a reservation, the place is small and looks like it gets packed very quickly. Our server was very sweet and when I told her I mainly liked white wines she made sure to accommodate my tasting to mainly whites. I tried the "pinks not dead ", " the impossible" , " the big tings" and then she added a red which was very light and good but I can't remember the name. I loved the white wines so much , their labels are so fun and unique looking and the flavor was unlike anything I had tried so I purchased 3 bottles to take home. I took them cross country back home. Not your typical wine tasting location in Calistoga. This wasn't my first time here, years ago they had a Napa/Calistoga wine passport and I remember coming here, we thought it was pretty cool being an old gas station, they have a bar tasting area and another room all indoor and refreshing from being outside. They have a pinball machine inside too. We were staying in Calistoga and stopped by here after lunch. We drank a lot earlier that day so we just ordered a glass each and just chilled before our drive back to the bay. The servers were great, the wines were really good chilled and refreshing. The host sat me down without explaining anything, served me room temperature white wine, never checked on me, I even had to ask what his name was because he didn't introduce himself.... and no, he didn't ask mine back or if I had any questions. There was a nice lady who greeted and sat other guests at a table nearby who gave a far more welcoming introduction and explained the history of Tank as I could only overhear, far better as a host and I'm sure is what this business' standard for customer service is. Even when it came to paying, he took my card and when I'd asked where I could tip he said "no it's just a glass, you're good" and walked away. Hannah and Alyssa were amazing. My partner and I were visiting the area for the weekend and Tank looked like the least pretentious winery in the area, so we gave it a shot We were NOT disappointed. A cozy tasting room, with intimate seating and a really fun selection of wine unlike anything I've ever had. I see a couple of reviews here complaining about party size limits and the timing of final tastings. I unfortunately witnessed the same level of entitlement from a group of 13 people who came in asking to be seated 45 min before closing. First, read the web site. Tasting room rules and requirements have been changing since COVID. This should be nothing new. It was kindly explained to the large group that the tasting room was full, that they only accept small parties, and the last tasting is at 4 pm. Once, that detail was explained to one person in the group, another would ask the same questions and would receive the same answer. Hannah politely declined THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE in the group before their final entitled and 'intimidating tactic': asking Hannah or Alyssa if they were the owners (they are not). The woman declared "we're all business owners and we wouldn't turn away a party of 13 people that could bring money into our business". Good for you, 'Susan'! Tank employees are purely following their business policy, which is clearly stated on their web site and don't run your business. Her final intimidation tactic was to ask for the owner's information-- which she didn't take--and the group finally left. Good riddance. Tank is NOT the winery for you, Other than the experience of yet another group of entitled wypipo ruining the tasting experience of those of us already there, we had a wonderful experience, bought a membership, and will be back again. This is the atmosphere and environment that my partner and I enjoy with the types of kind and knowledgeable employees we love who will smile through all types of garbage shoveled at them with no problem. Date of Visit: 10/5/2024 We visited the Tank Garage Winery in Calistoga during our weekend trip to Napa and Sonoma Valley last weekend. There was a heat wave across the Bay Area in the first week of October, and it was very sunny and bright outside. Tank Garage Winery was established back in 2014, and this tasting room was once a gas station, with the gas pumps in the front as excellent photo spots during the visit. Lubrication Tasting $30 We made the reservation for the regular lubrication tasting with four wines on the menu, and can waive one tasting with 3 bottles purchase. We sat first at the high top in the first tasting area by the window. But it was super bright and warm, so we asked to move inside to the backroom. There is a pinball station in the backroom with most sofa seats, nice and chill. 2022 Hot Fuss, White Wine, California The first white was made with 45% Grüner Veltliner, 20% Gewürztraminer, 13% Greco, 12% Riesling, 10% Chardonnay, has the taste of pear, citrus, honey and spiced. 2022 Bye-Bye Baby, Red Wine, California This one is a little similar to the GSM in Central Coast, made with 63% Grenache, 29% Mourvèdre, 7% Cinsault, 1% Syrah. The taste of blueberry and Oak was very obvious. 2021 Talk Dirty to Me, Red Wine, Sonoma County This one is a Cabernet Sauvignon based red wine with 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 1% Syrah. Like the chocolate and cherry taste, and medium bodied with soft tannin. 2022 Lip Service, Red Wine, Napa Valley This one was made with 58% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Zinfandel, 7% Petit Verdot. The softness and lingering taste of strawberry and juicy acidity was very nice. 2022 Onde Nostre, Red Wine, San Benito County 50 We asked for a sip of this red wine, with 52% Barbera, 30% Sangiovese, 15% Freisa, 3% Valdiguié. On the nose, there was an obvious cherries and raspberries smell, and on the palate, we tasted the tart cherry, cranberry, and raspberry, with a hint of black tea and tobacco. read more

One of a kind wines! We went on a Calistoga Winter Passport. The wines are blends and they use traditional and non traditional grapes that once bottled they never make a similar bottle according to our educator. Tucked and hidden by the filling station facade, inside it's really beautiful and artfully inspired by prohibition era. Truthfully, the wines are fantastic! But the customer service and attention to customers could use some training. We were sat, explained what they were about , our educator poured us one glass at a time , gave his speech and left. Never asked what we thought and nor left room for us to inquire with our questions that each wine left curiosity with. We were not asked if we wanted to try more by upgrading our passport( which should have been an option) or see if we were interested in buying a bottle let alone explain their membership. Not sure if the Passport puts off the company but I would think it would be their best opportunity to win some new and local members .
