Such a fun place with a bit of everything in U-pick. We went a bit early this year (mid-September) and a lot of apples were roped off and not ripe. I sampled some of the available apples and they were not that sweet but I had already paid for the box ($67 for one peck) so I just picked the ones that were ok. I also picked lots of string beans, so it wasn't a complete waste. I was told it was a rip off but I enjoyed the experience. Fast forward a few days and now the apples are very sweet and crisp! Better than what you get at the supermarket for sure. The green beans are also fresh and not like the mushy bags you get at Trader Joe's. There's nothing like farm to table. They also have a nice bakery with excellent cheese bread and pies. Very fresh and warm when we bought them. The location is closer to Nassau and Manhattan than other farms on Long Island. We are back a little earlier this year! This time with my sister, the girls, and Bubs. This will be one of my forever favorite farms because you can have the kids play for free out by wooden tractors and trains. There is a store to purchase a bunch of pies and produce as well as stands where you can get some goodies like popcorn and cookies. The building all the way to the far right is accessible to the public and when you go in, it a spacious area with a bar. They are waiting on a liquor license so you can get your apple cider slushes and chill for a bit. Apples were available for picking but Bubs for tires by the time we walked over to U-pick. Came with a group what was visiting from out of town and everyone had a lot of fun. It was a memorable experience. Since we had four people who wanted to visit the farm, they recommended the $65 entry that came with a box instead of $18pp with a small bag. They also had an assortment of veggies available to be picked as well so we did the box. All rows of honeycrisp were picked clean when we visited but there were plenty of the other variety available. I went here in September with my family. We went "apple picking". It is a very nice place for kids to enjoy the grounds (jungle gym for kids to climb, props for kids to put heir face, pumpkin patch, corn maze...). The grounds is beautiful. They have food that can be purchased. But I was very disappointed to find out that they do not have Apple a La mode. The main reason we went was for Apple picking and it was NOT worth it. We spent $56 for the biggest option for them to give us and it was a tiny basket. No Granny Smiths were available. I could have bought a bag of apples bigger than that at the supermarket $7. The tractor hayride to the U Pick Farm was fun. The kids loved crawling through the tunnels and climbing the wooden ships. The Halloween decorations were entertaining. The kids liked the live music. There was a corn maze that I didn't go into, $5pp. The apple picking was $15pp for a small bag or a box for $55 for 4 people. I did think the $15pp was pretty high and the bag was small. Figured I'd give this a try thinking it would be under the radar and a little closer than some other farms on the island. First off there's no admission to walk in which is nice. For apple picking, you pay $15 (a little more for cc) for each person and each person gets a bag for apples or you can buy a box for $56. My daughter enjoyed the various play structures but beware I'm not sure of upkeep. I saw a kid go up pirate ship and the rope handle came right off exposing a large nail through the wood. Also if you are an animal lover, I didn't love the conditions the animals were in. Looked like it needed a clean up. Also they have their dog tied by the concession stand on a relatively short leash. I didn't understand why he was there tied up. The ice cream was good. Would have liked the apple cider donut warm, but I still enjoyed it. read more

I had a really nice time when I spent the day at Windy Acre Farms. The ride out from Queens took a little over an hour without any traffic. The foliage on the way out was beautiful. When we arrived, we parked and checked out the market store. Within a minute, we were greeted by a lovely woman who explained the deal bout the U-Pick apples. We happened to come on a day when they had just dropped the prices to $10 (from $12.50) for a quarter-peck bag, which holds about 10-12 medium sized apples. The walk from the farm stand to the orchard is about 10 minutes (if that). They had a lot of different types of apples, and I had no problem filling my bag. It was a lot of fun walking up and down the apple aisles and checking out all of the different varieties. I will definitely visit again in the future! When we left, we hit up the farm stand. They had a 9 pound broccoli for only $3! I didn't get it (although I've dreamt about it every day since), but I did get a blueberry crumb cake and it was delicious! read more

Came here for strawberry picking in the middle of June. There were still lots of strawberries but you have to really search for it as the ones in the front were already picked at or too small to be picked. But you'll get surprised once in a while when you spot a big one. We probably spent a good 30-40 minutes picking berries to fill up our basket. There's a spacious play area for kids to run around in, a market store in the front where you can buy fruits and vegetables, and a concession stand selling donuts, soft serve, and other food/beverages. Had a great time. I just had a baby but in a few years this would be a great spot to bring him. Lord of play area and little things set up across the yard. There's a small pumpkin patch to get a pumpkin or take an iconic instagram pic. For an additional price there was a corn maze which I didn't go into but was definitely interested. There's cornhole and live music and lots of food and all before venturing into the orchard. Help yourself to whatever apples you'd like that fit in your bucket (20ish apples) if you ventured far enough down there was yellow and green varieties. Make sure to take a taste to make sure you like that kind and then go for it! I made some delicious apple pies with my loot. Also wasn't exceptionally crowded for the east end which was nice. My husband, son, and I went here last week to enjoy some apple picking. We had a lovely day. Even though it's a little late in the season, there were a bunch of different varieties of apples to choose from. The price for apple picking was really fair. We opted to get 2 totes (they charge per person) instead of the box. We were able to fit a bunch of apples in each tote. It was more than enough for the two of us, and we got to collect a great variety of apples to try. On our walk to and from the orchard, we were greeted by some beautiful farm animals, including sheep, goats, chickens, a horse, and pony. There's also a nice playground for kids to play on, but we will have to wait until my son is a little older to enjoy that. The farm stand/market is worth a visit on its own. The produce was beautiful and fresh, the prices were great, and there was a great variety of fresh and packaged foods. In addition to our apple totes, we went home with a blueberry crumb cake. It was SO good. I wish I got her name, but the woman working during our visit was fantastic. It was great talking with her and learning a bit about the farm. Windy Acre Farms will definitely be a yearly (or maybe twice a yearly) tradition for my family moving forward. However, I wouldn't travel here again for apple picking unless I lived nearby. There isn't an admission fee but the price for apple picking is not worth the amount of apples. I went with a big group of my family members but only 4 of us chose to do the apple picking. We spent $56 for a small box of apples (maybe 15 apples). There was a wide selection of types of apples but not great quality nor any granny smith apples. We went late September and told granny smith apples would be available in November. The food options and prices were great in comparison to other apple orchards. Overall it was cool for an outing on a sunny day but I wouldnt recommend for solely apple picking. read more

Lovely farm for a lot of fruit picking needs! Parking is very, very limited so come earlier. I think you might have to venture further away for some spots, we were lucky to snag one as someone was leaving. Apples/peaches/veggies are together and it's $10 per person to go in, plus they give you a paper bag that holds up to 4lbs of goodies. Or you can pay $30 for a box that will hold up to 15lbs of fruit/vegs. The white nectarines were my favorite but they were mostly rotting and limited when I went two weeks ago. But all of the peaches are just so so good, definitely more juicy than what I'd be able to get at my supermarkets. For the veggies, there's string beans, tomatoes, peppers, gourd/squash, and eggplant. Grapes/berries will cost $5/box but they're not the thick concord/muscadines that I like so I didn't go Right before you enter, there's a huge sunflower patch! Super pretty, you can't really go inside since it's not a sunflower maze, but lots of photo-ops surrounding the patch. Downside....the nasty portapotties. Ugh. read more

Fun place for a family day out. There's a playground for the kids and a picnic area. Snacks, hot dogs, corn and fruit for sale if you didn't bring your lunch. Ice cream too! A tractor pulled wagon takes you out to the orchard and berry picking area or take the 10 minute walk. Fruit is delicious! Peaches, nectarines and loads of apple varieties. You pay for your container as you go in and fill it up. Pies and other baked goods for sale. Only an hour from western Nassau and we'll worth the trip. Don't leave without getting some apple cider and/or peach donuts for the ride home. Will visit again when more apple varieties are ripe for the picking. read more

Boring,no games,got stung by a bee and nothing to do except fruit picking which I hate.

We have just been there the second day after their strawberry picking season starts (Memorial Day weekend). Adults and preschool kids all had a great time. It was a fun 1-1.5 hours after we arrived at around 10am. A sizable kids' playground, followed by tractor ride to the strawberry field, passing a few farm animals, strawberry picking with a spacious area for people to spread out and plenty of fresh berries to choose from, and then come back for a little more playtime and snacks. Reasonable price: $8/adult and $5/kid, including a box of strawberries for each. The playground is completely free and well kept. We didn't check out the vegi stand. Less than 1.5 hours from Brooklyn and 1 hour from Queens. One of the closer farms in Long Island. Highly recommended. read more

We went to the farm in mid-July. We picked blueberries and blackberries. The entrance to this part cost 5 dollars per visitor and this included a box to fill. There was a large amount of fruit to pick and we were very satisfied. After that we went to the second part which included a $50 box that we could fill with whatever we decide to pick. There were green apples, peaches, various vegetables such as cucumbers, peppers, zucchini and the like. The tree fruits were in high quality and tasty, the vegetables were of medium quality for my taste. Although it was very convenient to reach them. There is a tractor with a cart that takes visitors back and forth from the cars to the field and there is also a store full of fresh fruits and vegetables. The site also has basic playground facilities for children. Mobile toilets and plenty of parking are on site. And the service is kind and pleasant. read more

Came back! This farm it's a bit of a drive for us but love the open space, place for kids to play, has soft serve, donuts! Small farm stand that sells pies, jams, etc. planter of picnic tables around if you want to bring your own food/lunch. This time they had a tractor bringing people to and from the field. They also have some farm animals. We saw a horse, mule and sheep's. Parking was fine. It wasn't crowded when we went but I can see on busier time that parking can be limited. Think Apples, Think Potatoes. Also other produce & pies. A real variety of their own apples, I asked what were their best for an apple pie. The farmer/ owner said to mix them. Funny because I often do that.... but was willing to lean toward their best apple. Mixed em up..... various red a few green, and perfect apple pies. Potatoes are fun here too...... on the side you can sometimes see a 50lb bag of large "Chefs" potatoes, for $10. Have gotten a few of these and given to friends. One friend dropped off on another friends porch. LOL Something fun about lugging home 50lbs of potatoes in November and more fun to give over. Who can eat all those? Tip, Don't lean up against the wall near a heater!!! : ) ! In cool spots they last. read more

A fun place to spend a few hours. Has nice set up for kids to run around, all picnic tables are spread out far apart, some basic snack/food options available but pretty limited. Great U pick set up! We had a group of five and we ended up spitting up, some went to peach orchard and some went berry (blackberries and raspberries) and grape picking which is a different field. You pay a flat fee upfront and get a container so you pick as much or as little as you want per the size of your container which I thought was great! We've been to other farms in the past where you had to pay for entry and then weigh your stuff on way out and get charged accordingly. I like this flat fee entry price better. Their farm store is great too! Plenty to choose from including incredibly delicious fresh breads, jams and freshly baked danishes and of course, apple cider donuts! read more

Had a phenomenal experience here! When you first walk in, you are greeted by a few animals such as: peacocks, goats, and horses. We talked to one of the people running the farm and they said if you make a high pitched meow sound, the peacocks will try to "talk" to you. The farm itself has a TON of produce. Since it was peach season, I focused more on the white peaches. They are soooo sweet and juicy. A lot of the peaches you get to choose from are a a bit over-ripened. They also have eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, etc. Make sure you check their facebook page to see what you can pick on the day you are going. The farm is absolutely beautiful. Pumpkin picking in September yielded some fruitful results, the field was filled full of the holiday gourds. The deep orange color and thick density of the pumpkins assured me that their shelf live upon my stoop isn't a concern. The price of fifty nine cents a pound was a concern as I knew I was reaching the hundred pound mark. That price caught me by surprise, the farm fresh corn was five dollars a dozen-----and you can eat it. The cakes and pies inside held labels from other establishments, even other states which had me questioning the produce. I didn't see any peppers nor potato's in the field. The young staffers worked fast assisting customers, the owner was upset --- something about her peacock. But definitely a fun place for the family, some light prepared sandwiches would be an added bonus for all of us traveling from the city. Just a thought. read more

Went here on a whim for berry picking yesterday! Lots of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries for August! Everything was fresh and sweet. We were even able to grab a lot of zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, nectarines and white peaches. This is a great place. Very family friendly and lots to do for the kids. Came here today (about 1 hour and a half from Queens) and so glad I did. It was a beautiful day and the service was pretty good. Beware, they don't really make this known as you enter: they charge $10 for cash to apple pick regardless if you're picking or not and then $10.35 if you have to pay with card. Only reason why I'm giving four stars is their signage for payment method isn't very good. They also had lanes that were supposed to be marked off that others and us were picking from, and the employee that approached us wasn't happy, but we didn't know based off of the lack of markings/signs. Awesome selection though, and spacious enough to wear a mask and feel safe. You can also pick fresh veggies! They had refreshments: apple cider slush, apple cider (delicious), donuts, cinnamon roasted almonds and cashews, pretzels, and caramel apples.
