I stumbled upon Davis Street Salon by accident one day after many poor experiences at other salons. I swear it was pure luck that 5 years ago I booked my first appointment with Emily Natale. She is hands down the best stylist I have ever had. Now that I know what makes a good hairstylist, I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. Emily is so talented, friendly and knowledgeable, but most importantly, she is passionate about hair and staying on trend with ways she can master her craft. I go to Emily for a cut every 6 weeks and balayage a few times a year. She even asks the questions I didn't know I had to ensure she leaves me with the cut and color I was dreaming of. I always leave her chair feeling confident and GLOWING. The talent Emily possesses is incomparable. I got my haircut from Jenny M at Davis Street Salon several months back and boy was it a treat. One of the best cuts I've ever received. Though I had never been to this salon before, I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in. Getting a cut can be anxiety provoking for me since I've had my fair share of bad cuts. This was a game-changer. So relaxing and therapeutic (the head massage was the best!)... and Jenny's gentle confidence put me at ease right away. She knew exactly what I wanted, was open to my input throughout, and made me feel like I was at a spa. The cut was perfect (my hair felt fresh and lush for months following), and she even took the time to dry/style afterwards. Such a treat! on top of that, pricing was very reasonable. I moved to PDX about 3.5 years ago and needed to find a new stylist. After many, many positive yelp reviews, I started going to Emily N. I'd had the same hair style for some 20 years and needed a change, but was nervous going to someone new in a new city. I got incredibly lucky with Emily. She talked me through the entire thing, and stopped before every big cut to make sure I was ok. At the end of the session, Emily had transformed my super long (mid-back) hair into a very structured and chic graduated "lob". She also gave me great styling tips product recommendations. She has since moved salons to the Davis Street Salon, and I had to follow. I highly, highly recommend Emily if you're new to Portland or looking for a new stylist. I needed a cut while my usual stylist was on vacation and made an appointment with Kim. Never again. She was 20 minutes late. Then she cut my hair in such a rush that she left one side longer than the other and a section of hair hanging out below all the rest. Never gave me a mirror to see the final look. When I saw it I called the salon to schedule a re-do. They told me Kim wasn't available. I called three times and she never called me back to fix it or offer a refund. The worst service and it cost $55! I have an easy style, who knows what she'd do with a trickier one. read more

I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Emily Natale since I moved to Portland, and she is the best hairdresser I've ever had. She really listens to what you want and gives you a cut or color personalized for your lifestyle. She also clearly cares about the long-term health of your hair. She inspired me to try balayage and understands that I need color that will be low maintenance and will continue to look good as my hair grows out. I was reffered by 3 different people to go see Nicole at Davis Street Salon after moving here last summer. They were right! My hair had been damaged by my last hairdresser. Nicole was able to salvage my hair. She listened to what I wanted and was able to give me a color that looked amazing and a cut that has grown out so well. I stopped a woman on the street to ask her who did her color. It was amazing. She quickly replied that she saw Jamie at Davis street salon in nw Portland. I called an got an appointment for the same week and she did wonders with my color and cut. I have difficult hair with more and more gray with each passing visit. She knocked it out of the park. I consulted many friends and colleagues who all gave me their salon faves and why, but I loved what my one friend said about A-List 'they listen, they take their time, and they do it right.' WOW! I met with Dosia on 12/20/2023 and surrendered my ultra-long, ultra-shapeless hair that badly needed...something? I wanted low maintenance but to keep the length. Give me a great style, but show me how to do it myself without a million products. She was absolutely amazing! Or know how much each one costs? 2) If you decide to put more in, even if it's based on a conversation that we had about what kind of color I want, shouldn't you tell me it's going to cost more? 3) She compromised at $145 but recommended that if I didn't want to pay $165 next time that I go with a less experienced stylist, rather than the owner.
