I cannot believe I've never written a review.... I have been going to Thao since I was 13; I am now almost 34. all I can say is Thao is part of my family and I trust absolutely no one else with my hair. I have lived in Vegas now since 2020, and I will willingly and happily go 4-6 months without a hair cut iust to wait until I come home to Oregon and can see Thao. plus she's THAT talented my hair lasts that long when I'm in dire straights and can't see her as soon as I would like. she literally styles it knowing I'm not getting it done for a minute. I was walking by and wanted to make a hair appointment until I witnessed one of the hairstylists, I think her name was Stacey, being unprofessional at the salon and arguing with another young girl. The altercation was loud you could hear it outside and the young girl accused the hairstylist of harassing her. I have been gone to Iolite salon for last +12 years. The hairstylist, Thao is an excellent, very talented,creative, very trendy, kind, and very professional. Also she is a wonderful person who really listens your needs and would do anything to help with appointments ( working early or staying late). I really believe her cutting technique and coloring is the best in this field. When I am ready to leave from the chair, I am the happiest person....Thao does amazing job. Thao is wonderful! I texted her out of the blue, asking if she had an openings for a curly hair trim. Even though she was leaving on vacation in a few days, she offered to fit me in at 7am the day she was leaving! Thao has been my hair stylist since I can remember. I wouldn't doubt that I had the most expensive hair cuts throughout school. Thao ROCKS and it is totally worth it! Stacey gave my wife an amazing hair style! My wife's hair was looking a little wild. She was letting her hair grow out. Recently at an event we attended, my wife liked the speaker's hair. I used to go to this swanky place in LA called Umberto to get my hair cut, and while it was pretty good (and I got a deal through a friend) I think my hair stylist gave me "The Rachel" for many more years than it was hip. My mom and my sister have been singing Thao's praises for years, and when I showed up for a visit after a really, truly heinous dye job at a swanky SF salon, they knew Thao could fix it. It turns out that Thao is not only hilarious and full of energy, but also gifted at color. I just discovered Iolite Salon after my previous stylist moved out of state.I was particularly searching for someone who uses Wella color, as it works so "wella" in my hair! ;) As fate would have it, I found Marciano/Iolite online and couldn't be happier. I am absolutely *thrilled* with color and cut, and have already booked my next two appointments with him. The salon is small, no-frills, yet nice and without pretension. She is extremely flexible, will do whatever it takes to squeeze you in. She's the BEST stylist in Portland! I just also wanted to comment on Thao--she does a GREAT JOB with both cut and color. When I first went to her, I had gotten a really unflattering haircut from another salon in the neighborhood and she was able to really improve it, not to mention give me some great highlights. Later that day I got a lot of compliments on my hair (since it looked so much better than it did before with the previous haircut). I've been going to Thao since! I highly recommend her. Thao has been my hair dresser off and on for several years. No one does color as well. She is funny and makes the salon experience worth it. I will admit that Iolite is expensive. IF YOU DON'T SEE BROOKLYN, YOU'RE MISSING OUT! This is going to be a unique posting, because I left my first visit with Brooklyn happy, but not DYING over how perfect everything was. The funny thing is, she's so amazing because she did EXACTLY what I instructed her to do during my visit. (I have control issues with stylists) I think she sensed my uncertainty when I left, and she reassured me that if I needed anything at all, simply to call her cell phone and let her know. Well after 2 or 3 days I did, and let me tell you, this girl is a class act. She had incredible training at Vidal Sasoon for years, and it's clear her hair skills aren't the only thing she learned from them... I called her to ask if I could come back in to have her revise one or two small things, and she was SO accommodating to me, I couldn't believe it. She never made me feel bad for a second, even though I basically asked her to re-do what she recommended me to do the first time around (I was too stubborn to concede) and my hair is flawless now. She was so sweet and professional, and my hair truly IS amazing. She took her own time to fit me in and do her job right. Really, if I had shut my mouth the first time and trusted her like everyone says to do, I could have saved an extra trip. But I'm so glad to see customer service is alive and well in Brooklyn's chair, I gave her a huge tip the second time around, especially after she gave me a great first time discount and still took such good care of me when I wanted to come back, and she didn't charge me a cent. How refreshing after years of dealing with pretentious, self-absorbed stylists. Brooklyn's got all the bragging rights in her talents, and a great attitude in service and customer satisfaction as well. Best Hair Salon ever! All 3 Stylists do great jobs! Just perfect....

I recently moved to Portland from NYC, where I would have assumed the best salons are, but my experience at Iolite has totally changed my East coast prejudice! Marciano cut my hair for only $50 and I think this is the best cut I've ever had. My husband keeps telling me how hot I look. The salon is airy and unpretentious, the products are top of the line, and the stylists all seemed very professional yet laid-back and friendly. Marciano was chatty in a really good way, telling me about great places to visit in Oregon (great info) while carefully cutting my ragged mop into a sexy, edgy long cut that I love.
