Big Belly Deli makes some delicious sandwiches! I got the Girl's Dream, and it was top notch! The vibe here is kind of a dive / hidden gem. The inside of the deli is really dark, and they have this little dimly lit lounge with booths tables and maps of Dolly Sods on the wall. The man running the restaurant was very friendly and chatty. He was training someone new, and she was doing a great job. Both my husband and I were very pleased with our sandwiches here! I would recommend stopping here when traveling to Davis. Also, most restaurants and eateries were closed on Monday in Davis and Thomas, so we appreciated that Big Belly was open! read more

If you need some lunch in Davis, this is a good place to go. Easy ordering of good food to keep you fueled for some outdoor adventures. Grill-based sandwiches (fired up right in front of you) is the main fare, but there are lots of fresh veggies too. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. It isn't the fanciest place in the world, but it's straightforward, fun vibe suits Davis right down to its bones. Definitely recommend. Trying times still during Covid. The service was fantastic and the food was good as well. There is plenty of space to sit down at a table inside. The food was served in to-go packaging, so you can sit inside at a table to eat or take it with you and maybe find a place outside to eat if you like. The prices are reasonable. A great place to pick up a takeout sandwich. Eat-in space is dark and lacking in ambience, sort of a hippie dive bar feel. . The menu is extensive with several interesting vegetarian options. I tried the vegetarian reuben and my partner tried the hummus wrap. Both were excellent! Staff are friendly and helpful about local events and opportunities. We waited close to 30 minutes for the sandwiches, but if you're not in a hurry, is definitely worth the wait. read more

It was a nice morning with still a dusting of snow on the ground so I went for a walk in Davis, and since I was hungry I thought to stop in at the Big Belly Deli. This was not my first visit. I got a tasty sandwich 3 years ago or so. Today's breakfast sandwich, the BLT was just as good! Joey welcomed me as soon as I entered, took my order and went right to making my sandwich. April who also works there was super friendly and we had a very interesting chat. This is a really neat little place and it is the perfect spot for stopping in to get a rapidly well-made sandwich. My husband and I grabbed a sandwich here prior to leaving for home. At this time, they have a window you walk up to where you place your order and another window for pick up as they are take out only. They have a small table with paper menus that you may look at prior to ordering. I ended up getting The Girl's Dream which was warmed turkey, swiss cheese, and sauteed onions with a chipotle aoli served on my choice of whole wheat bread. The meat was stacked high on the sandwich, the bread was browned/toasted and the onions added a whole other level of flavor. I did not taste much of the cheese or aoli but that was ok with me. For an extra $2 I added a 12 oz bowl of soup. Their soup of the day was a curried carrot butternut squash soup which to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed! The curry was subtle, the pureed squash made it creamy and the bits of carrot provided some texture. My husband and I shared it as I could not finish it myself. The employees were quick to take our order and we had our food in a timely manner. They were quick to help us when we asked for suggestions. My only dock for this place would be the price of the sandwich based on its size, however they are not priced any higher than any other deli may be. Fantastic made to order hot sandwiches- perfect lunch after a 6 mile hike in Blackwater Falls state park. My hot pastrami on griddled rye was one of the best I have had, with perfectly seasoned grilled onions and piled high with lean pastrami. Plus it came with a pickle and chocolate chip cookie, all wrapped in their own compartments a single piece of foil. We picked this place because other reviewers said they had a selection of great vegetarian options. My daughter really enjoyed her mushroom and pepper veggie hot Reuben sandwich, loaded with an amazing sauerkraut. They had veggie burgers, hummus wraps and of course grilled cheese. The food was really good; however, the service was very slow. And the workers were very rude. I ordered online and they said 25 minutes--we got to the deli and waiter another 30. There were two workers when there should easily have been twice as many to handle the crowd. When I arrived at the pick up window the man told me to back off pretty aggressively, which took me by surprise. And then there are those like the Big Belly Deli where the exterior is tired but the food is absolutely delicious and the staff warm and genuine. The Hot Pastrami I had was moist and flavoursome - the best I've had.
