    Mozzarella sticks, 3/5 stars
    Eli J.

Three stars probably being generous. Stopped for lunch here driving through the park. As others have mentioned, clearly understaffed so expect slower service. All of our food was at or below average. Pizza, cheese sticks, grilled cheese and soup. Pizza is pretty lousy would definitely not recommend that. Cheese sticks very standard frozen deep fried, average. Grilled cheese is a big miss on trying to do a fancy gourmet grilled cheese with burned cheese on the outside of the bread, I cannot recommend that either. Maybe try their bbq seems to be what it's named after, maybe have better luck with that.

The lodge from across the canyon. They really should cut several trees down to increase the view at the lodge.

I reserved three rooms for my family and my two brother's families. We all had been to the state park many times growing up as children, but this was the first time any of us had stayed here. I reserved three canyon view rooms, which was preferable over the parking lot views. The rooms were very modern and comfortable, having all been recently renovated. The Smokehouse restaurant was very convenient, reasonable priced, and friendly staffed. There was a nice gift shop, a coffee bar in the lobby (which could have used more tea than just Lipton), ice machines, conference rooms, an elevator, king and queen suites, a pool, fitness center (which oddly doesn't open until 0800), and surprisingly...a game room. The only negatives, and why I docked them one star, is that most of the front desk staff were pretty rude and the parking lot and entrance could definitely use some updating. Additionally, the stained shingle roof needs to be replaced with either a more functional and esthetically pleasing shake or metal roof.

I'll start by saying the restaurant as actually called the Smokehouse - specializing in BBQ & that it does. The ambiance is more that of a hotel & convention center dining area. Service was painfully slow - I believe the staff was just overwhelmed by the influx of people meandering in after spending the day in the park as we did. That being said - the brisket was amazing...so 5 stars for the brisket, 2 for service. Wait staff was helpful...if you got their attention ...it may be that we were there in what may still be the off-season (mid-May) - hopefully, more summer staff will help. Fortunately we were content to relax from our day of running up & down hills looking for waterfalls ;) Nice little gift shop, too - which is part of the lodge. Also - some great views from the overlook behind the restaurant/lodge! I'd try again if I make it back to the area...

    Cheeseburger and curly fries.

It was great food, good service and a beautiful place to eat! The waitress brought us a pitcher of Diet Pepsi and sweet tea so we could get our refills quickly. Daughter got burger and curly fries, hubby got burger and side salad, son got the pizza and I ordered the Alaskan pollock with green beans and mashed potatoes- it also came with a side salad. We all four got either Diet Pepsi or sweet tea with free refills. I say this because anywhere else in the area has been serving cans of Diet Coke or sprite for $3. With no refills. Total bill was $82.95 plus a nice tip to round off at $100 which was still cheaper than eating in Davis

There's not much at the lodge, the only reason we came was to have dinner at the smokehouse. It was fine for a group, service was a bit slow and the food took a long time even though it wasn't busy. Food is mediocre, the chicken was very dry. Small beer selection. I would try to find somewhere else for dinner.

Overall I'll give this 3 stars. Ordered soft pretzel withe cheese for the appetizer, the classic cheeseburger with curley fries with a side of cheese, the smoked Mac n cheese with side of brisket and house salad with raspberry vinaigrette. I'll rate each... 5 stars- soft pretzel with cheese. Was hot, fresh and great 4 stars- cheeseburger and fries. Would have been 5 stars if the burger wouldn't have been pink in the middle. Didn't have red juice coming from it so I ate it. 1/2 pound burger filled me up, couldn't even finish it. 4 stars- Curley fries was great. Ask for well done and got them nice and crispy. Would be 5 stars if they weren't only like warm when I got them 0 stars- forgot to bring my side of cheese and when it arrived I have no clue what it was. It looked like spoiled milk in oil. Her explanation was it was "fresh.. just made" was nothing like the cheese I got with my pretzel that she stated was thicker cuz it was days old. 3 stars- Mac n cheese was just "ok" 0 stars- brisket side. Was not brought out with the order and when it was it was cubed brisket and was cold. She removed this from our bill on her own cuz she said since it was forgot about?? 5 stars- house salad with raspberry vinaigrette

Tasty unique burgers, interesting local beer (brewed right in Davis WV), friendly casual efficient service. Always with a smile. This review is for Smokehouse inside the Blackwater Lodge. We had two lunches here during our weekend visit. We did not stay at the Lodge. We just hiked around the Blackwater Falls and each day had lunch here. Both days the place was quite empty. Just a beautiful place, almost like a Swiss snow chalet.

    Pot roast

Food was good although to look at it, we didn't have high hopes. We started with the bruschetta that the menu promised fresh mozzarella and all it had was a sparse amount of grated Parmesan and little tiny cubes of not fresh mozzarella. The "toasted" Italian bread was more like a super crunch crouton wafer. Despite all that the taste of the overall dish wasn't bad if your into tomatoes and balsamic. The side salad was an arugula mix with chunky veggies and filling. We split the pot roast and when it came out we were again hesitant due to the pot roast looking burnt, but again it surprised us and tasted good; especially the vegetables. Overall not a bad meal. Our waitress was pleasant and the prices aren't too unreasonable for a resort town.

    Onion soup

We enjoyed a wonderfully delicious dinner at the Blackwater Falls Smokehouse. Our group had smoked chicken dinner, maple glazed salmon, onion soup,& Caesar salad. Reasonably priced and very good. Highly recommend

We visited during the autumn foliage season and it was packed as it's the only restaurant in the area . Their Reuben sandwich was very good.

I am a pescatarian athend the menu had some interesting fish and seafood items. I got there on a weekday during happy hour and sat at the bar. Since it was half off for happy hour I started with the Smoked Trout Dip which was one of the items I really wanted to try. The dip came out really quickly and was a very nice looking plate, crostini and cucumber slices were nicely arranged around the scoop of dip covered with crushed nuts. The dip was decent, although flavors were a bit muted; I was hoping for more of the smoke flavor and having the trout make a bigger impact. Not bad, but not an item I would order again. Next up I tried the Smoked Salmon Poutine. A good sized portion of sweet potato fries topped with a generous amount of house smoked salmon, feta cheese and creme fraiche sauce. All of the ingredients were high quality and well prepared, however the dish didn't quite land as poutine since all of the elements other than the fries were served cold which muted the flavors and meant that the cheese didn't melt. This dish missed all of the hardiness and warmth that I associate with poutine. I came to Smoke on the Water hoping for big flavors and while the food was good and they used quality ingredients I just found the flavors to be a bit mild an underwhelming for me. A bit of a disappointment, of course your experience may vary, especially if you are having the actual BBQ.
