The service is Great!! Bartender very efficient and so friendly!!! The food is delicious and great size portions!!!

Went here recently for lunch with co-workers and ordered their steak sandwich. The steak is flank steak, and it was cooked to perfection just the way I asked for it i.e., medium rare. It was served on a French baguette with provolone cheese and was absolutely the best steak sandwich I've had in years. It was topped with provolone cheese that was also melted just enough to not be messy, but the melt complimented the flavors of the medium rare steak. The sandwich was accompanied by perfectly cooked crinkle cut fries. We ate at the bar and were taken care of by a very efficient bartender who also brought us our food. She made recommendations to my co-workers who weren't quite sure of what to order and they took her suggestions and were glad they did. McKenna's is a local pub and while this was my first visit, we were told that it is under new management. I do plan to go back soon and try their Shepherd's Pie which I saw another diner order. Our server told us it comes in two sizes, which is probably a lunch sized portion and a larger one for dinner. McKenna's is not a true dive bar; it was clean and warm, and the people were friendly. I hope its new management/ownership are successful because I plan on going back more frequently now that I've discovered it and because I want to work my way through the rest of their menu. read more

Could not have been more surprised! I was in the area having dinner with some coworkers felt like stopping at a bar to have a couple drinks , I honestly expected some dirty hick bar, but in reality the place was cozy, clean and friendly. The bartender and the cook were so warm and engaging even though they knew we had never been there before. In fact, they opened up the pool table up just for us so we could play for an hour or so. I didn't have any food or what I saw. Come out looked good. I would definitely eat there. If you're looking for fancy, you won't find it here. What you will find is friendly service and at least in my case, a Stout burger as big as you please, and it was very delicious. I ordered it because it had Stout in the meat, but I also became stout as I tried to finish it. I couldn't finish, though I still kept popping the perfectly cooked tater tots in my mouth! it's a "locals" pub with a friendly Saturday afternoon bar crowd - who welcomed outa-towners warmly and enthusiasically. Bartender Kimberly introduced everyone to each other, made sure no one sat alone if they didn't want to, and turned the TVs to the sports channel the individuals wanted. ALSO, Kimberly kept everyone served promptly and knew what locals would like, as they walked in. PERFECT place to drop in and watch my football team play, and by the end of the game, I felt as though I knew Joe, Dennis, Ruby and bartender Kimberly like you know childhood friends. FRIENDLY place. I live upstate NY in the Catskills and had no way to visit McKenna's before my event! I chose them because Kimberly had wonderful reviews online, and, when I spoke to her, she was friendly and helpful. I connected with the owner to discuss the Reunion I was holding on Oct 12th and he provided me a fantastic hot buffet for 14 people, including beverages and desert! The price was very fair, the buffet was setup when we arrived, service and food were excellent and, they provided "to go" boxes for anyone who wanted to take food home! This is our go-to spot whenever we are in the Lake Hopatcong area. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming. You can definitely get a feel for the local flavor of folks! Additionally, the food is really really good. Their burgers and cheese steaks are cooked to perfection. Seems to be a good quality beef and certainly large enough sandwiches to take home 1/2 (for me, anyway). First time here for Football on a Sunday afternoon. The empty parking lot and near empty bar should have told the story, but we proceeded. Only positive thing I can mention is price, no one got hurt on cost of wings and beer. Bartender was disengaged young lady who just doesn't understand customer contact to make that connection. Wings were tiny, and just not at all hot despite ordering the "XXX" version and receiving a warning on heat. Just a huge disappointment. I don't believe any in our group of four would return, and we paid our bill as quickly as possible and headed to another venue down the road to finish the games. read more

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews on Yelp or we probably wouldn't have come here, but I'm glad we did. We actually had stopped at a bar down the road for lunch, but it turned out they didn't serve much food. They recommended McKenna's. We sat at the bar and ordered hamburgers. My hubs got one with gravy and onions. Mine had onions and Swiss cheese. They were great!! Cooked just the way we ordered and so big I only ate half and brought the rest home. They have 3 different kinds of fries and also tater tots, which was fun for a change. The waitress was friendly, the food was good, and they had Yuengling on tap. Our kind of place! read more

GREAT LOCAL PUB....went there in october and what a good crowd for the winter/fall season....had a burger and def. was one of the best i ever had....met bobby the owner and he couldn't have been more friendlier and made you feel right at home....you can tell it's local crowd that hangs out there but i allways find the locals interesting....good stories!! guiness was really COLD!! when i get up that way again, i will def.L be stopping back again to try some other items on the menu........from what they told me, be careful of the cops patrolling....def. get a desi!! thumbs UP read more

There are lots of good bars around the lake, and this is sadly not one of them. The rude staff pushes you away more than welcomes you in. Been here a few times and will be back because it's in the neighborhood. One of the bartenders is incredibly aloof and seems to stick to giving good service to her regulars but I know that game. Guaranteed tip. There's a dart board and pool table for entertainment. The whole right side of the bar smelled like urine from the men's room. Besides that it was clean and plenty of parking. I went here last night for st. Patrick's Day and I was extremely displeased! Myself as well as two friends walked in and waited for our other 4 friends to come in and join us. Well my other 4 friends came in and they were charged a $10 cover while my and my other friends had not been! So we proceed to inquire about the random cover fee and the women at the door says "oh well is must not have seen them (meaning myself and my other two friends) come in". So we then ask "well why is there a cover?" (This is a local dive bar that is lucky anyone wants to go there at all!) the older brunette at the door says "well we are serving food over there" and points to the back of the bar. We go back to inspect and there is no food left! So we then tell her just that, she said "oh they will eventually make more". We are already displeased at this point with the random cover charge for non existent food but we get a drink anyway. While we are all standing drinking our drinks we proceed to watch the women at the door not ask a single other person coming through the door to pay the "cover". We finally got fed up and left, as we walk out the door the women is speaking to a man and we comment to the women that she hasn't charged a single other person! Well the man that the door women was deep in conversation with turns to us and says "go f***yourselves". Needless to say we will never go back, I hope they take the "cover" they charged us to get rid of the urinal smell that emanates through out the bar. read more

On groupon it showed beautiful pixtures, we got there and it was a ordinary pub. Pool table was there but I went with my family (2 young kids).. I called before hand to see if it was a family oriented place and the sweet lady said yes. It wasnt. It reeked of smoke and alcohol (should have known). Regardless of all of this, the food took about 45 minutes to come out but it was delivious!! Mac and cheese qas PERFECTTT!! FISH N CHIPS was also a delight :). Next time will probably take out. Was there last week..was going to order food but the overwhelming stench of feces every time the mens room door opened made me lose my appetite ..we did order menus and I was slowly changing my mind about eating due to the stench, but I asked the earlier bartender to just leave the menu at bar as we were undecided...the pushy rude night bartender came on and 4 times in half hour proceeded to throw her order pad and pen down in front of us "ready to order?" She was very rude, not nice... Finally, after 3 times of telling her "not ready," the fourth time I said " I will let you know when and if I am ordering."!!! I bartended for many years; she was the worst! I guess she didn't like that she was not pumping our bill up, so proceeded to pass over my drink for a bit as she went on to other fools at bar who were buying her shots 3 minutes into shift to pump their tab/her tip up...sleezeball..left and will never be back! read more

A few years back I swore I would never walk into this place again after I saw the most unsanitary thing I have seen in my life, and I have been in the reataurant business over 30 years, so I have seen a lot! I made the mistake of meeting friends here yesterday. I was greeted by the most unfriendly bartender I have ever met (It was the first time in my 40 plus years I have ever had a coaster thrown at me.). If her sense of humor is that dry, she should not work in the hospitality industry...it can be so misinterpreted!!! This time I mean it when I say I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THAT SHITHOLE AGAIN! I say shithole because the smell of poop and urinal cakes overpowered the smell of our wings which were hands down the smallest most dissappointing wings I have ever eaten...only ate them all because I hadn't had anything to eat all day up to that point. I am only selecting one star because Yelp doesnt allow zero stars! Also, the derelicts at the bar made it such an uncomfortable "needle scratches off the record moment," and what sucks so bad about this experience is that Bob, the owner, is one of the nicest most generous people I have ever met. I wish he were there to see how his business is being run into the ground...he doesn't desrve it!!! read more

Came through McKenna's for dinner, with plans to stick around to see our local friend's band play. The bar staff was more interested in chatting with a handful of patrons, than keeping an eye on the whole bar. And a 5-10 minute wait alongside the bar was common for the almost 4 hours were were there. We watched the staff purposefully overlook our group throughout the night, so the message was pretty clear. Without the crowd that the band brought, it would have been a very slow night, as our group was easily 3/4 of the patrons from 10pm-1am. So, after subpar service, we later find out that the bar refused to pay our friends band for the amount they decided on before the gig, so these guys that brought a crowd, kept them buying drinks all night, ended up walking out with enough money to break even on the night (they were supposed to get free domestic drafts while playing, all ended up with tabs), essentially playing for 3 hours for free. This is the kind of thing that nails the coffin on any future visits. They don't deserve your time or money. read more
