Walked in for getting our service dogs nails drummeled before our trip. The guy held our 83 pound Weimaraner while Marki did the nails. Our pup was so calm and relaxed as they did this! Wow! I have a long coat German shepherd and she is 7 years old. She's never been professionally groomed before, only gone in for toe nail trims. She looks like a show dog! Josh did an excellent job with my Saint Bernard named Bernie. He seemed happy to be there and everything I asked was done. Bernie sheds a lot and they were able to de-shed him and make him look beautiful. Thank you very much!!!! Update: I had to move away to the Bay Area. I have tried a couple other groomers and NO ONE can compare to Josh and his wife (sorry I forgot her name!). The groomers here do not do as wonderful a job as Josh did. I'm so sad I can't bring Bernie there due to the distance. The groomers here cost more and they do not have the attention to detail as Groomers by the Sea do. Bernie is not a fluffy and soft as he used to be after his grooms, Josh also washed his collar and leash before I picked him up. I do not get that kind of service here. This place is certainly better and different! First they have experience in all breeds, meant you don't need to tell them that my dog is Labradoodle don't shave her nose, they know better than me. They choose the best dog treats, though I noticed most of the dogs love that place and they never get nervous! That are a little bit expensive, but that's because of their amazing quality. Also don't forget that you need to be a regular to get the best results, and I think this is my plan. read more

We have been taking our two malti-poos to Marki for several months now. The biggest difference between Grooming by the Sea and our previous groomer is that my pups walk in the door instead of having to be carried. No nervous poops, no shaking, no "Mom, don't make me!" looks. In other words, my guilt is not compounded by a negative reaction from them. They are very open to feedback on how you want them cut, and while it may take a couple tries, they do listen and work with you. It's hard to find a good groomer, especially one you trust. Marki and the rest of the staff at Grooming by the Sea are great, and we're grateful to be in their client base. read more

So far he has has been groomed twice by them and he comes back so happy, clean, and perfect, that he wants to go back to the Mobile Spa after they drop him off. Came into town with our dogs to get away for a few days from SF and had been meaning to get them bathed but never got around to it. Saw this place next to our hotel and popped in to see if they had availability and they did. We have one easy to deal with and one pure hellion. Her name is Jasmin and we call her the Jasmanian Devil and she is the consummate escape artist. We were not sure a bath would work but it went incredibly smooth; they handled both of them expertly, no after traumas and they looked, smelled and felt fabulous and was incredibly reasonable given the amount of hair. If they were in SF, I would never self serve bathe my dogs again. They are amazing. read more

Based on the glowing Yelp reviews, I spent the better part of a week trying to contact them to set a grooming appointment, but they don't seem to answer their phone much. They did manage to return one of my many calls and left a message instructing me to call back with information about my dog, which I did, but to no avail. After more tries than I should have even bothered to make, I finally did get someone to answer. When I responded that I had not been there before, I was asked to describe my dog and what I was looking for in the way of grooming. Only AFTER I described that he was a rescued small terrier mix that just needed a basic cut, etc., was I told that they're not currently accepting any new clients. I went to another shop that claimed to hand strip my dog.. and they charged me plenty for it, which was fine except they used clippers instead! The lady who checked him out admitted to it!! we got lucky that there was spot for Chloe to become a regular customer. Clean, neat, and not ur typical smelly groomer. Josh listened to my requests. Couldn't believe I was given a 2hr pickup time. My previous groomer would keep Chloe the entire day with an appt of 9am. when I arrived Chloe and another customer (dog) were just freely walking around behind in the work area (which is closed off from lobby). Chloe was nicely trimmed and washed. Price was reasonable despite being in Carmel. Note: in keeping with quality service and not quantity of customers. We were recommended by Diggity Dog in Carmel. We are on vacation and our dog needed to be groomed. Our little dog is very, particular, but after a couple of minutes of Apprehension she settled down. Upon returning 90 minutes later it was like Cinderella getting ready for the Ball. She was beautiful and sweet smelling again. It was time for the little guy to get his second cut and we didnt want to go back to Petsmart after his first cut turned out so bad. We ran into another Cockapoo on Carmel Beach who looked great and the owner pointed us to Royal Paws. Great advice because our dog looks fantastic and he was happy to be there The owner is extremely friendly and was able to help us figure out how we wanted our dog cut even though we had no idea. She nailed it and we will be back. Yes its a little more expensive than Petsmart, but not by much, and you get what you pay for. This is by far the best groomer we've ever been to! Our animals run INTO the spa to be pampered by Marki and Josh. They are great about accommodating our very furry kids, knowledgable about how the breeds should be trimmed, or not...and genuinely love animals. We have our dogs on a monthly schedule and it's perfect, and they have even done our cat a number of times. When we've had emergencies, such as a skunking or fleas, they do their best to get you in ASAP!
