Fantastic beautiful home for pet sitting while in Carmel/Monterey! We are very lucky to have found Signature Paw Spa last min. We had booked a previous dog sitter and found out last min her home was an hour away from Carmel, which was too far for us to drive back and forth. That would be 2 hours just to drop our dog off. Tonya and her wonderful team went over and above to welcome our little 8 month old mini schnauzer Lotte into their care. We were so pleased Tonya was able to accommodate our eleventh hour request when we found ourselves staying locally without pet friend accommodation! Lotte stayed with a small group of other dogs which was wonderful for her socialization skills (she is a puppy product of quarantine!). And as an additional unexpected bonus, given Tonyas lifelong experience training dogs with all kinds of behavior issues, Lotte started her anti-bark training a few days into her stay. It was the holiday week, and everything boardinghouse was full, and as one of my last saving graces before I had to go to the airport, they called when no one else did and said they could board my baby girl terrier mix last minute while I was gone. So my friends and I rarely get days off together. When we did we decided to go to Monterey. We brought our 2 dogs and unfortunately we cant bring them to Aquarium. Our dog, a rescue standard poodle age 10, has separation anxiety and typically greets us after we're away for almost any time period (even when left at other sitters) with lots of barks, which we interpret as telling us he missed us, and he felt abandoned. Uniquely, our dog greeted us with all smiles, no panting as if he'd been barking for hours (we were gone hours), and no barking at us. We returned to pick up our pet, only to learn that the manager had "opened" up the single (half) front door to "accidentally" let our dog "escape", running loose in dowtown Carmel/being chased through the surrounding high-weekend traffic downtown area. We strongly feel that the idea of "free play" (without leash) in an open room with one door and lack of adequate pet handling procedures has not fully been thought through to consider the safety and security of the pet (anyone entering or leaving could let loose people's pets). We would expect that basic pet safety/security would be thought through in a professional pet spa. Additionally, we were initially advised (prior to booking) that the daily rate was $60 from 9-5, for shared daycare, however upon picking up our dog, the staff person advised us we would be charged $18/hr @ 5 hours because we picked up our dog "early" - more than the full day rate. We found the entire exchange unpleasant and our beloved pet won't be returning. read more

We stayed in Carmel for a week recently and my dog need a bath pretty badly. Signature Paw Spa came to the rescue, taking him in with less than 2 hours notice! They were so friendly and Kirby, who hates baths, was so happy when I picked him up that I knew they'd taken great care of him. He was squeaky clean, too. I found out that they also provide dog sitting services for a reasonable price and they were extremely helpful, taking Kirby in twice (both times on pretty short notice) for several hours each time. He got lots of good walks, was extremely well taken care of and he fell in love with Louis. All of the staff were very friendly and clearly they love dogs. If you're in Carmel and your dog needs grooming or just to be looked after, this is definitely the place! read more

We had to find an overnight pet sitter last minute after our puppy would not stop barking in our pet-friendly hotel room. I found Tonya on Yelp and she was the closest to where we were staying. Her prices were a little bit higher than a typical boarding facility, but I the quality of care our dog received was DEFINITELY worth the extra couple bucks. Tonya was very friendly, accommodating, and able to take in our dog on short notice. She cares for the dogs out of her home, so our pup was never crated or left alone. She sent videos and pictures of him during his stay, which really put our minds at ease. She took our pup down to the beach for the whole day. He had a blast and I think he almost wanted to stay with her more than us. ;) Overall, we had a great experience with Tonya and are definitely going to book with her again on our next trip down to Carmel/Monterey area. read more

Wednesday, 08/25: I fill out the form on the Signature Paw Spa web site, inquiring about the possibility of getting my Airedale groomed on Sunday, 08/29. Thursday, 08/26: I don't hear a word from Signature Paw Spa! Friday, 08/27: I call up Signature Paw Spa and make an appointment for 11:00 Sunday, 08/29. I am *delighted* that my beloved Charlotte is finally going to get a professional grooming and so close by where I'll be walking around shopping and dining. Saturday, 08/28, ~1 p.m.: I'm standing in line at the Post Office when the owner/groomer phones me up to say that he's not available at 11:00 Sunday--his wife made the appointment for him without consulting him! I have to end the conversation early when it's my turn at the window. 1:20 p.m.: Back home again, I have a short phone conversation with the owner/groomer who is initially defensive (and hangs up on me, saying he doesn't ever want me in his shop). Then he calls me back, and begins to believe me when I point out to him that being called "unprofessional" for the situation outlined above isn't really all that unfair an assessment! He finally decides to see if he can find another groomer to come in and honor the 11:00 Sunday appointment. I told him that I'd give him until 3:00 but by then, I'd need to be phoning other groomers. 3:40 p.m. No word from Signature Paws, so my verdict stands: UNPROFESSIONAL in uppercase! After reading Zoie W.'s review just now, I consider myself LUCKY! One of the reasons my Airedale has never been groomed is because I'm so worried that a careless staff member will accidentally let her out into traffic! I was foolish to have not checked yelp reviews for this place before I made the appointment. We had a wonderful experience at Signature Paw Spa a few weeks ago. The owner, Louis, was open and friendly explaining the details about the spa (we knew our two Golden's would be fine). When we picked them up, one of our dogs was lying on her back with her legs up in air asleep!-A very good sign. Our other dog had a big smile on her face as she entered the room. They both looked fabulous! The spa is very clean and inviting (especially to our four-legged family members). Both dogs were lovingly attended to by Soona. She (thankfully) found a hot spot on one of our dogs that we didn't know about. The location is convenient and the prices reasonable. Overall a very pleasant experience! The only down side is that they aren't located where we live. One more reason to visit Carmel in the near future! read more

Tonya was our last minute saving grace. Our family is in the middle of a move and needed a break from the road. While we went to the Monterey Bay aquarium, our pup Hendrix was able to run around and play with Tonya and her crew. They worked out all his puppy energy and we came back to a tired yet happy pup. Where I'd sometimes find the shop locked up (sometimes event after calling ahead) they now happily take my dogs as walk-ins. I walked in with our family dog, Larry, so he could get a bath and a couple of hours of day-care while my wife and I went shopping and out for dinner after spending a sunny day hiking the shoreline at the beach together. Turns out a dog-friendly beach, as is everything in Carmel by the Sea. We were greeted by a happy group of fur-faced paw customers who were lounging about the cage-free space. There was every breed imaginable from a very wise and friendly basset hound named Moe; Jules, a lovable Saint Bernard; plus a furry assortment of other delights including a very settled live-in named Goober. The staff were all dedicated and very sharp. Larry wanted to stay even longer when we arrived to pick him up. That's a first. We we're invited in by an artist there, Patricia, that has created some of the most enchanting and beautiful dog portraits and paintings we've ever seen - we're of course going to save up so Larry can sit or frolic for his own portrait for us (Patricia is a talented and passionate still and video photographer too) What an amazing, charming, joy-filled spot. A delightful surprise. My wife Roxy and I agree, Paw Spa was the highlight to our visit to Carmel by the Sea and all of Monterey.
