Hey! For the price, this place rocks! Especially if you're a poor college student desperate for a cheap bite! The hotdog combo comes with chips and a drink at no additional charge. I ordered off of door dash for delivery, and was shocked at how cheap it still was! Usually the toppings are what makes a hotdog good, but these hotdogs themselves bring enough flavor to the party and would be quite enjoyable even if you ate them plain! It's always a great decision after four games of basketball here in Hickory to have a Dawg Pound hot dog. Small tourni great action and talent. Love girls basketball These hot dogs are sooo good and fresh. Always served with a smile and sounds of praise playing on the speakers. $40 fed three teen girls and three adults! The service is really good, I will definitelygive them a star for that, but after wanting to try the food for so long, I can honestly say that I do not understand what the fuss is about. There is always a line for some reason, but the hot dogs are soft (boiled) and just not good. I actually feel bad being honest about how much we disliked them. The Dawg Pound is a great place to eat for the price. Very inexpensive for a family, and no one complained. I was slightly disappointed in the Chicago dog. It didn't have the neon green relish, and instead of sport peppers, they used pickled pepperoncini peppers. I know those ingredients are tough to get because they're mostly regional and expensive if you can source them in NC. The tomatoes were too large compared to other Chicago dogs over had from other businesses. The hot dog itself was great. No snap but not too mushy. I don't know if the citizens of Hickory were giving Roy Cooper and his stay home order the one finger salute or what, but I saw a mass of humanity driving to and fro in Hickory today. For my part, I was supporting a local business as Roy has suggested we do. I spotted Dawg Pound Hot Dogs a year ago or so, and they've been on my to do list ever since. I ordered an all-the-way, an Ole Yeller, a Buffalo dog, and a BBQ dog. All of these are served with an all-beef wiener, which was slightly on the small side compared to the thickness of the bun, and had about average flavor (which is good) for an all-beef wiener. All-the-way: over all, it was pretty good. The slaw was excellent, but the chili was mild, which was my fault because I asked for mild. Ole Yeller: it comes with mustard, cheese, and bacon. The bacon was real, and they were generous with it, but was a little tough. Nevertheless, this dog was very good. Buffalo dog: spicy chili, hot sauce, and jalapeños. This was my favorite dog of the day, though I admittedly love spicy food. Everything came together in beautiful spicy goodness. BBQ dog: comes with pork barbecue, slaw, and a pickle. This was my second favorite dog of the day. I wasn't sure how I would like it, but the barbecue was excellent--tender and smoky. Dawg Pound is a kinda cute little shack run by some very nice people. They are also popular --they had a line the entire time I was there. Then again, there were a LOT of Hickorians (Hickorites?) were out and about today. I guess cabin fever is setting in. The pricing is reasonable, and they make a very good hot dog. read more

I've been coming here for a while, this is a great place to get a pretty good lunch and eat it in the car or outside at the table they have. Food 4/5 - their hotdogs are good, the chips are good, I've had their corn dogs, their pork sandwiches, their reaper dawg, and there is nothing that I have had here that I didn't like. Service 3/5 - the only issue I ever had with their service is that it can be very slow at times. I understand as there's probably not much room for more than a couple of people to be in that kitchen at once, it is a very small building. But it is still annoying. Honestly I hate to say this but the slow service has definitely deterred me a few times from going, usually I go when theres not many cars there. atmosphere 3/5 - it's getting a little messy out there, there's a lot of signs and stuff that in my opinion they really don't need. As for dining in, there is a single table outside which is nice but it would be cool to have maybe a few more and a speaker playing music or something. Overall it's an alright place, I've been going since it opened and honestly they have been putting out more menu options which is great but I would love to see them speed up service and expand their dine-in options! read more

Staff is always friendly but since their building is very small and they only have a couple of people working during the day, you usually have to wait at least 10 mins or more. Hands down, the best Hot dogs around! No others compare! Their Chicago dog is a meal in itself, served on a poppy seed bun, made fresh at a local bakery. The Lonestar nachos were a big hit as well, with a very generous helping, and don't forget the BBQ sandwich, also served on a fresh baked bun. We eat here every chance we get! I was there the day this young lady and her boyfriend went to the back door and spoke to the owner. She shoved the sandwich in his face and started yelling at him. He told her that the buns had just been delivered fresh that morning. He tried to tell her that what she was seeing was flour on the buns. She just kept getting louder and rudder. Without getting nasty with her he did ask her to leave. There were other customers there as well that saw it too. I would have done the same thing and asked her to leave. Everything is made to order and some items do take a little bit longer to prepare like the Reaper dog or the Lone Star nachos. I will keep going back!!! read more

The BBQ sandwich buns where filled with mold spurs, and when I went to talk to management about the situation I was blown off and was told to leave. They did not care about the health and safety of there consumers. Instead of fixing the situation they got hostile. I will not be returning back to that establishment.
