We've lived in Severna Park for 12 years and have always found the staff here to be rude and unhelpful. We thought we'd give them one more try. We're currently out of state and asked them if they could possibly deliver a bottle of champagne to our 92 year old father on his birthday 5 days from now. He lives 100 yards from Dawson's. We'd pay for delivery. NOPE! Wouldn't consider it. We will never set foot in this store again. For comparison, we called Fishpaws. Of course, they could do it! Would be happy to do it! Rude incompetent staff. We are done supporting this business. Every single time we come in we witness nasty attitudes. I guess if you're certain people you are treated differently but both my husband and myself have dealt with the same nastiness amongst the employees like they are disgusted to have to do their job or deal with us. Lots of beer and lots of it is too old, like REALLY old (year+-old Maine Brewing Co. beers, as a recent example) not to mention expensive. Shop carefully and you can do okay but it isn't easy. Booze is expensive as well, as in some of the highest markups in the area, especially for the upper end whiskeys but pretty much across the board. The wine selection is an afterthought and, yes, what they have is overpriced compared to the competition. You're better off at Goska's or Fishpaw's or up the road at Magothy. This place used to be better, now, meh. Maybe worse than meh. read more

I dig this place for their unique craft beer selection and variety. They have a complete aisle of local brews and do a good job of getting new stuff on the shelf. They have tastings often and do a good job of posting new beer arrivals on their Facebook every thurs/Fri. That being said you will pay a solid $1 or more for beer and liquor than elsewhere (usually) and stuff that should stay cold (like unpasteurized and Nitro beers) sit on the shelf at room temp. If you go, snag a sixer of their collaboration with Oliver Brewing that you can only get there. read more

Like the "Old Tea & Spice Shop" ************************************* Dawson's reminds me of the Old Tea & Spice Shop, a fictional establishment in Portland long run by Rosalee Calvert and her family in the TV series Grimm. Cramped and eclectic like its TV counterpart, at Dawson's you'll find surprises in this family-run treasure that that you won't see anywhere else. The Washington Post Food Section ran a recipe for the Breakfast Martini. It called for, among other ingredients, naval strength gin. This is 114 proof, and so designated because, in the days of sail, if it were to be spilled on the gunpowder it would still ignite. I searched numerous stores in the area before I found a bottle of Perry's Tot on the shelf at Dawsons. Not only that, but they also had grapefruit bitters which was another hard to find ingredient. The staff are colorful in a ZZ Top sort of way, and always extremely helpful. And who knows, there might even be a Wesen or two among them. read more

A friend of mine has a little shop in SP across the street from Dawson's, so while I was visiting her at her location, I decided to stop in and re-stock before Sandy hit the area....I mean, when the power is out, liquor IS a necessity, is it not? SO......I stopped in and discovered they were having a wine tasting event, with about four different wines being featured.....and for FREE. I ended up buying 2 bottles, each only around $10 but very good! The staff were very friendly, efficient, and knowledgable. The store has a great selection, and has some unique offerings that I haven't seen in other locations. My only issue is that it is a VERY tight fit in there...not much room to move around. Of course, that could be because a lot of other people had the same idea I had pre-Sandy, so maybe it wouldn't be so crowded on a "normal" day. But I'd definitely recommend stopping in! read more

Dawson's is the best beer selection within a 30mile radius of downtown Annapolis. They have a large selection, they update frequently, they offer tastings, host beer dinners, and promote local brewers. To top it all off, the staff knows their stuff, and they are always happy to help out. I can never make a lap around the store without an offer for assistance, which makes me sound sketchy, but I know they mean to assist me. They don't hover and are enthusiastic about getting you something you'll enjoy. I love that they have a large selection of chilled beers too. read more

Seriously the best beer selection I've seen anywhere. Great American craft breweries, lots of Belgians, rare limited releases and much more. They've got a nice variety of sizes too with everything from 12oz to 22oz to 750ml bottles. GO! NOW! And this is the only place I've seen Dolin vermouth in MD. It's the BEST vermouth around and you need to try it. And you can get it here. read more

This is the best beer store in the history of ever. I can safely say, with one hundred percent historical accuracy, that the ancient Mesopotamians used to look at their beer stock and say, "Yeah, it's good and all, but it's not -Dawson's- good." On top of their unparalleled selection, knowledge, and service, the place is always open when you really need them! Three feet of snow on the ground? Dawson's is open. Torrent of rain and a fury of wind from the skies? Dawson's is open. Plagues of locusts, darkness and the inexplicable death of every firstborn that didn't have blood on the doorpost of their house? Dawson's is open. And now for some tough love: I can't find the pretzel sticks anymore! There used to always be pretzel sticks at the front of the store in a wooden box and now I can't find them. Also, the horse they have on display with the buggy hasn't moved in thirty years. I think he's sick. read more

This place is good for the area but it has a few obvious negatives. The first is that the prices here are high and more to the point, inconsistently high. Some stuff is just bizarrely more expensive here like $5 more than any other store I've been to while other items are priced reasonably. The store is cramped but has a nice selection and the beer guy is always helpful and will give you suggestions if you ask for them (and sometimes even if you don't ;). Overall for the area this is a good place to purchase beer and liquor but it's not a place I'd ever visit if I had a choice. read more

I think Dawson's is one of the best liquor stores around. Their beer and wine selections are fantastic. If you've tried something in your travels and think "I'd like to buy some of that when I get home" then Dawson's is probably the place you'll find it. Their staff is great. The guys in the beer department know what they are talking about. The wine experts, and sometimes they are the same guys from the beer department, have never steered me wrong. The store is packed with product and it's always fun to try something new. read more

Torn about this place. Good selection of liquor and wine, though their liquor prices are high. What makes Dawson's special, I suppose, is their selection of craft beer, which is probably the best you'll find in the greater Annapolis area, better than Bay Ridge. If you like craft IPAs, you'll freak out over the variety near the back of the store. BUT, they're not kept cold and since hoppy beers fall off really quickly, you're taking a chance every time you get a(n expensive) 4- or 6-pack there. I'd say more than half of what I've purchased there have been malty messes, $16 down the drain. You'll do better at Magothy up rt2 or Cheers & Spirits the other way: both have way smaller selections, but the beer is stored properly. I've never gotten malty IPAs at either place. All of this said, the guys at Dawson's are great, and they're often playing Dead tunes, which is nice. read more

Solid local liquor store has all the regular favorites you would need, as well as a few fun local and craft beers. The store can look like I maze, but I think it's quite fun to wander around through the piles. If you ever can't find anything the staff is always pleasant and helpful. read more

Great store, amazing selection....but way over priced! I only shop here when I can't get to the larger store in Laurel. I would like to shop there more often but the prices are prohibitively expensive. Also, they have an awesome selection of Rye that can't be found in Sev Park, but again, the better ones are quite costly. read more

One of the best beer selections I've ever seen. If you're a beer nerd, you'll be drooling. Multiple fridges FULL of craft bombers. Walls of six packs you've never heard of. Two guys appear to be "the beer guys" there and are friendly and great for a recommendation. Highly recommended for beer people! read more

After reading the reviews I had high expectations for this store. I'm from Denver so my standards for craft beer are very high. I was excited about how vast the selection is, and I would give five stars for selection but I was VERY disappointed to see the prices for everything is $1-2 dollars over market price. I was hoping to save money buying in the city as opposed to Ocean City, but Anthony's Liquor on 33rd has as good of a selection and the prices aren't insulting. read more

You can have all the inventory in the world but if you don't follow your posted hours what is the point. I will not be back after the second time of looking up what time this store closes and arriving 10 minutes before this time only to find the doors locked and no one to be found. This is a horrible business practice and will lose you more customers than you may think. read more
