Went there right at lunchtime. Got waited on very quickly (not because they were slow but because they were good). Ordered the tenderloin. Was the best one I have ever had hands down. Thicker than most and seemed to be had breaded. Usually when you get a big tenderloin like that, you fold it over or cut it in half and stack it up. If I would have done that with this sandwich, it would have been too big. I ended up not even eating the other half. This would be a great sandwich to share with someone. So, we finally take a weekend trip and make it to the Moto GP. We go to Dawson's for dinner on that Friday. It was about a 20 minute wait but we were able to get a table outside! It was a great evening to do so. Our waiter was fun, prompt and very courteous. The experience was pleasant. Our orders comprised of the ribeye, a fish filet, a combo surf and turf, and the prime rib. We also ordered appetizers and the cheese cake. I would have to say, for the first time eating at a place, out of state, we were treated well, the food was wonderful, all the orders were correct, and the wait staff was amazing. I don't remember what the bill was... It was a mini vacation. I know it was pricey, but we all felt it was worth the money! read more

Absolutely horrible food. I feel sorry for the servers because nobody wants to wait an hour and a half for dry burnt salmon and tasteless potato mush cakes. And where the hell is my salad??! So far they have the Best Nachos in Indy! I ordered mine with the Chile, since I am not able to eat the chicken! We received a very hearty helping of Nachos and would most likely order this every time but ... because their menu offers a great selection I have not had the same thing twice! There should be something for everyone here. We callled in advance to find out their closing time. We were told they close at 11:00 pm a d did not say anything about the kitchen closing at 10:00 pm. We showed at 9:45 pm and the rude waitress told us "to order quickly because their kitchen was closing" in a very unprofessional and unfriendly way. We were in town for a volleyball tournament and everything downtown was booked. Dawson's had a full reservation schedule but they figured out a way to get our group of 25 into their restaurant. Well, after coming here month after month, every time I come into town for business I have to now give them a ONE star rating. When buying a $15 - $25 dinner, I should NOT get nickel and dimed 80 cents for a small little dinner roll. They should serve bread with the meal, as many rolls as you would like. I was in town for a race and this restaurant was right next to the speedway and it got decent reviews so I gave it a shot. It was a Friday around 6:30 so I expected it to be busy but it really wasn't too busy. That being said the service was pretty slow so I was not pleased about that. I was not given a drink menu and when my server finally arrived she asked me what I wanted to drink I said I didn't know what they had and she rambled off some choices but then said she could give me a drink menu if I wanted. I just picked something from what she mentioned. I had pretzel sticks for an app and they were pretty good. I ordered chicken parm for dinner and I'm not sure if we do chicken parm differently from where I come from but this was totally different. It was basically grilled chicken with breadcrumbs on it over pasta. No sauce on the chicken. It was not very good. I was pretty unsatisfied with the meal and the service. read more

Last night as we were finishing our dinner the manager came over to our table to tell us to hurry up and leave. That she had a 6pm reservation for this table. We informed her that it took 20 minutes before our order was taken and that it took a long time to get food. She did not seem to care. When I questioned why would you want 5 people to be upset and not wanting to ever return. The managers response was that's not my problem. It was 6:05pm when she said we needed to leave. Not only was this manager rude to us her tone was very unprofessional. We will never return. read more

Moved to the area a few years ago for work and have found that Dawson's is the best food in Speedway. Friendly staff also really helps with the experience. The food is always delicious and consistent. I've still never had a meal I didn't like. Blackened chicken Caesar salad, pizza, tenderloin are a couple of my favorites. read more

The restaurant was kinda dark even though we went middle of the day. We were seated quickly. Waiter was not very personable, but ok. Bit of a wait on drinks. In fact there was bit of wait on just about everything. There was hardly anyone there so it's not like they were busy. We were seated near kitchen entrance and the cook staff were literally yelling about some game. I understand they are excited about their team but this was a bit much. Food was ok. We ordered crab cake apitizer it was Luke warm and bland. Potato soup very good and hearty. I ordered tenderloin sandwich it was very good. My husband ordered Erma burger, it comes with egg and bacon, very good. Onion rings good. French fries were good but very small helping. But all in all it was ok. I contacted a case of food poisoning here on 2/23/13 from a bad serving of grouper. Spent a horrible night in the bathroom of the hotel vomiting before the severe diarrhea began. I was sick for a solid week. I called the owner the following Tuesday and he was not the least bit sympathetic to my condition and very uncooperative and defensive. We have been going to Dawson's for years and have always had pretty good experiences. We took family from out of town last Saturday and had such a miserable experience that we will not be back. We ordered prime rib and the meal was so tough that we all sent it back. We then ordered steak and again, it was so tough, we couldn't even cut it. Every restaurant has a bad day but the manager came to the table and actually counted who picked at their vegetables in order to charge us for them. In the end, we forced to pay for a the sides from the entrée plates. She actually stood over my 80 year old mother in law and told her that she could tell she had eaten a few of the green beans and she would have to be charged. I ordered carry-out yesterday from Dawson's for the first time. I was wanting some potato soup, and they were the only ones that I found close that had it. I called ahead to order it, Donna is the person who answered the phone. She was very polite, and friendly. As I arrived a server walked up and told me Donna would be with me shortly. Once again Donna was very welcoming, and informed me that I could pick my order up at the bar. As I walked up, I saw the bartender was walking to greet one of his tables. He only had me waiting less than 2 mins. The guests all had seemed to be having a great time, and drinks were full. He told me he had wrapped up my soups so that they wouldn't spill, which I appreciate. I didn't catch his name. The ora of the restaurant was very nice, and inviting. Overall, a solid place. I come here with the same group every year and use their private room. The service has always been very good, especially considering the large party. My only complaint is that there is only one vegetarian dinner entree on their menu, and while the Mediterranean veggie pasta is very good, it would be nice to have a couple other options. read more

Never considered Dawson's as a Rib House but "WOW" last night someone in our party of four ordered them. Once our meals were placed before us which was in a very timely manner the Ribs just looked outstanding plenty of meat with a succulent sauce adhering to the hearty rack of ribs. My extended family and friends, my mother's professional group, and my son's friends have celebrated on numerous occasions at Dawson's. But no more. Tonight our waitress suggested the Mustard Encrusted Chicken Breasts. It arrived quickly, with a hard roll on the plate. She came back and asked how I liked the meal...I had just started eating my vegetables so said it was ok. But when I tried to eat the small flat 1 inch high disk of chicken, I had to saw & saw and then chew & chew & unceremoniously swallow it. I really wanted some butter to soften the hard white flour roll to eat with my meal, but the waitress did not return till too late. With each bite of the chicken 'briquette' I would inspect the remaining portion on my plate---I told my friend I saw no blood on it in the darkened restaurant. He tasted my chicken and he was sure glad he ordered the fish N chips. Finally I asked another waitress to get our waitress and I showed her by vigorously sawing back and forth 4X in one spot, how tough and rubbery the smaller 'circle' of chicken was, but that I had not seen any blood. (Years ago I had tasted rubbery chicken at a KFC near my home--it was red inside and barely cooked.) She said she would ask the chef about it;--turns out Dawson's has a new chicken breast supplier and these need to be tenderized. Well, obviously my piece wasn't 'tenderized'. She said the manager would discount my chicken dinner and I agreed. The round disk I had attempted to eat came to the table hidden under a better-breaded larger and thinner piece that I had not tried, so I put it in my to-go box. She discounted the chicken dinner a few dollars. After she brought the discounted bill, our waitress snapped up my friend's to-go box with his fish in it, saying, "You WON'T be wanting this!" I said, "That box is HIS!" She dropped his and grabbed mine, saying, 'We can't discount it and let you take it." (Great--$10 for vegetables and a hard roll and chewing and chewing from the smaller (hidden) piece of poultry I was served--a dog's chicken chew toy!) I said that I had intended to take it home and to cook it thoroughly to see if undercooking was the problem, before she came back with a revised bill of a few dollars off. She said they couldn't discount it and also let me take it home to attempt to better cook it---though she saw the problem with sawing rigorously back and forth through the rubbery chicken just to get a single piece on the fork! NOT very appetizing to have to continually inspect what I attempted to eat! I left a tip and went up to the cashier to pay for my non-meal. It was there that I saw she had added a $5.37 "gratuity". I said, "What is this?" and told her I had left a tip at the table. So the young manager returned to the back of the restaurant to remove that charge. I told them I had never had such a horrible dining experience and would not be back. And I certainly will tell my family and friends, and my son so that he can inform his friends. I have been served more professionally at fast food restaurants! Will I eat again at Dawson's? Would you? read more
