Went to Dawson's on Main for a birthday dinner for my father-in-law last weekend. We were seated right away, upon arrival for a larger party size. Our server was a true gentleman and it seemed as though he enjoyed his job there or at least made the best of the experience for himself and fellow diners. Service was quick in terms of providing each of us with a menu and water. The inside was not terribly noisy, and it was relatively empty for a Sunday midday. They had football playing on a few TVs to watch and overall have comfortable seating. Come casual or casual-dressy if you like. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan with a side salad. My review is primarily based on my food because the service was acceptable and I have no complaints about the overall experience. My food just missed the mark for me. The salad was mostly made up of the bad pieces of lettuce that one typically picks out when preparing salad, lots of brown pieces and crunchy stale ones. So I really was not able to eat the majority of it. It's a reasonable amount given for a side salad but like I stated mine was not fresh. They grated cheese over it with a watery salad dressing, it really lacked a true Caesar dressing flavor to be called a Caesar salad. The main course was a bit overwhelming for me. I think it had three breaded chicken breasts smothered in mozzarella and marinara sauce. But not in a good way. Kind of overkill with the cheese. Enough to really choke on between bites if you aren't careful. So I had to cut it up A LOT in order to take my nibbles. The chicken has a decent crisp on some parts and other parts were soggy, so it was inconsistent what each piece of cut chicken would be like while eating it. The pasta used was some sort of linguine, but it was very Fazoli's like. Just too messy of a plate. Dawson's has other items to explore on the menu so keep that in mind when reading my review on just the Chicken Parmesan. Stopped by Dawsons for lunch and decided to sit outside, it was a lovely day! The service was fast and friendly and I enjoyed their cobb salad! (Damn you KETO diet!) "Smoked turkey, ham, bacon, black olives, bleu cheese crumbles, red onions, sliced eggs, tomato relish, and your choice of dressing" I asked for both ranch and blue cheese because, well, why not!? The salad had lots of the mentioned ingredients listed on the menu and was very tasty and the eggs were perfectly cooked. You'd be surprised how many times you find overcooked hard-boiled eggs on salads! My ONLY critique would be that I kinda wanted some chopped tomatoes in there somewhere. I guess I could have asked for them, but I didn't. I also had s cup of "Dawson's Signature Soup" (Not KETO but SO GOOD!) Dawson's house made signature French onion soup. Topped with a mushroom ragu, seasoned toast points, Provolone, Mozzarella cheese I loved the added mushrooms they made the soup different and delicious. You can't beat the prices either, the salad was $12 and the soup was $3.50! If you find yourself hungry and near Speedway stop by Dawson's for a tasty bite! I hadn't been here in years and it was just as I remembered - good food and cozy vibes. Parking can be tricky being right on Main Street in Speedway but I was able to find a spot in the neighborhood. We got a table for 6 with no problem during lunch rush on a Friday. Service was solid and attentive. There's something for everyone on the menu with a focus on salads, sandwiches, and soup. I went with the smothered chicken with mashed sweet potatoes and a salad as my sides. Everything was hot and fresh. My friends got the pick 2 with a chicken salad sandwich and french onion soup and I totally had food envy! lol. The croissant was giant. They are known for their soup so I'll be returning to try it. Had dinner with friends a few days ago -- it had been awhile and I was so happy to have a great experience as always. Service was great on a Monday evening - not too busy but a good crowd. Not an overly fancy place but comfortable and friendly. Lots of good menu choices here. In the past I have often enjoyed the Tenderloin sandwich but tonight I was feeling the Ribs. One of the best meals I have enjoyed for a while! Tender and meaty with a side of the mashed sweet potato and asparagus. The dinner roll was nice and warm which is always a plus in my book. Well.. 2nd trip around. Still great food. 2 things changed my review from 5 to 4. The guy who bussed our table said, hey did u enjoy it? We said it was great! He then asked if we would like to like the bowl and walked away. What? I asked to substitute anything for the cole slaw with the fish and chips, answer " no, it's just a sample really." I was taken back because the couple right next to our table ordered the same thing, and the waitress allowed her to substitute the slaw for potato salad. Not really sure how to take that. read more

I kept hearing about how amazing Dawson's on Main was from other local foodies. Finally for Devour, we decided to try it. I am so upset that I waited so long, this place is absolutely incredible. The inside area is bigger than a lot of other restaurants in speedway. We sat at a high top in the bar, but they have family seating as well. Our server/bartender was amazing and although he basically had the whole restaurant to himself, he was ON it. He was incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcomed. For Devour, I ordered the spinach dip, Caesar salad, Mahi, and apple crisp. First that came out was the spinach dip. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is hands down the best spinach dip I've ever had in my life. The cheese/creamy ratio was perfect and the warm tortilla chips topped it off. Next, the Caesar. It was amazing and it tasted like the dressing was made in house. It even had bacon on it, which really gave it the chefs kiss factor. Next was the Mahi. This was FIRE. I don't know how they made that tomato sauce, but seriously SO much kudos to the chef. It was literally like a sour patch kid, except the sweet and spicy factor. First it's sweet, then it leaves a kick in your mouth. The Mahi would've been great by itself, but the sauce gave it the memorable factor. For dessert, I had the apple crisp. Again, it was amazing. It didn't even need vanilla ice cream, it was that good. Please run, don't walk here. I regret waiting so long to try this place out. Really great service by Anthony! He gave us great recommendations was honest about the flavors of the soups, what he liked and didn't like about today's selections. We had a nice, comfortable booth. It was busy at lunch but we were still seated right away (4 of us). We had the option to eat inside or on the patio so we chose patio. It was a nice day but even if not it's a covered patio. The black Jack chicken sandwich was delicious and was cooked just right. The jalapeño cheddar potato cakes are 50 cents extra compared to the side of fries that comes with the sandwich. They were nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside but I think they could have used a dipping sauce like ranch maybe. Came here with my sisters before we went to a comedy show. Two of us got the prime rib special that was delicious. The outside was a touch salty, but it was still so good and a very good deal. Service was great. Our waitress kept a good eye on us and was quick to finish us up when we said we kinda needed to hurry for the show. One sister got a cocktail and it was great and any cocktail I've had there has been great but the prices on the menu were inaccurate. We decided to meet family here for a weekday dinner. We had a reservation but probably could have come in and got a table for six without one. We got seated quickly and were happy to know we got there in time for the Early Bird special. There are several choices on that menu and I picked the beef stroganoff. It was tasty. I sat by the bar, and Andy was the waiter and bartender. I am hardly impressed when a waiter can take my order without a note pad but not only did he take my order he stopped by another table to offer them dessert and a third one to get offer them a to go box. He did that throught my visit. He was honestly doing the job of 3 people flawlessly. The steak was cooked to perfection..medium rare hit to perfection with a nice crust. The vegetables which is normally considered a throw away option when eating the steak had LOTS of flavor. The only thing that was needed was a bit of salt for the broccoli but that's a me issue. The service and location are great! Ate in downtown Speedway with a view of the track. Unfortunately, the only bruise on a pleasing dining experience was the Old Fashioned. We came for a super early dinner and were surprised that the inside is much more modern than the outside. Don't let the exterior fool you - this place has kept up with the times and boasts a yummy menu. We were between ordering the chicken parmesan and pot roast. We both went for the pot roast because well, it came with garlic mashed potatoes. Who can say no to that?! It also came with mushrooms and a delicious sauce on top of the meat, and vegetables and a buttery roll on the side. I was impressed by how delicious and warm it was. Because we were there between their early dinner times, we also got a side salad with our meal. So much food!!!! Our server was funny and outgoing. Our food came out pretty quickly, and by 5pm, the place was filling up. Dawson's on Main is a Speedway staple and I hope it stays that way for years to come. read more

After Vaccine shot #2 I was in the speedway area and this place had such a welcoming vibe. We were there right at 11 and was surprised it was hoppin on a Wednesday for lunch. Good for them! Service was quick and very nice. The menus featured lots of options for apps, entrees, sandwiches etc. A few pick 2 options were nice for a lunch stop for soup, salad or half sandwich. We ordered the pretzel bread sticks aka soft pretzels but in stick form not in twists. They were warm and soft and the queso it comes with I could have drank. Fries were crisp and reminded me of the ones I am obsessed with at another restaurant. Chicken finger platter was just the comfort food I needed after being stabbed at IMS. Or I would have just treated myself regardless.. The only qualm is that the Bleu cheese was too runny for my taste. The Reuben had rave reviews as well! read more

Absolutely avoid! Went there on a rainy Friday night. They had a large party but by no means busy. It was 100° inside, horrible. Our waitress was even sweating. So hot it was uncomfortable to eat. Food was just plain gross. Potato soup was paste, ribs were overcooked like dry and burnt. They didn't even try to cover it up with sauce. They just served that shit. It was a 100% a crap show. We decided to go to this restaurant after we left one that we didn't like. We sat at the bar and Andy waited on us. We didn't have to wait long because on a Monday it wasn't busy at all. I ordered a Corona light and my friend had an old fashion with our appetizer. We enjoyed the calamari steaks. They were seasoned very well. For dinner we shared the shrimp. They were really tasty and the onion rings were good. I wish we could've ordered more shrimp. I think the meal only has 5. I wasn't a fan of the cocktail sauce (too chunky for my liking) because it didn't stick to the shrimp. The butterfly shrimp by itself was fine. After leaving an establishment that we didn't like this place was a breath of fresh air. We had light conversation with the bartender while we watched the basketball game. This place was incredible and I would definitely recommend it. It was also the only place packed on a Saturday night, which also let me know it was going to be great. Service was friendly and quick. The bartender was incredible and gave very generous pours while we waited for our table. My husband and I shared a large salad and the large prime rib, which came with two sides (we ordered mashed potatoes and asparagus). The food was incredible. First, knowing we were sharing both, the server graciously brought out the salad first. Which was a nice touch that we didn't ask for. Was fast and fabulous. The TENDERLOIN ... you have got to try this monster of hammered and breaded goodness the size of your face! I am not overwhelmed with tenderloin often, but this reminds us why our state has a tenderloin trail. Crispy, Juicy, Seasoned goodness. My side kick got a double burger, which is tavern thin pressed patty and was devoured without speaking. Always a good sign. Fries were our sides... atypical fry and meaty potato cut. ***Please share! Went out to eat at Dawson's On Main in Speedway. They don't like Black people. Sat us on the side of the building, basically forgot about us. I wanted to sit in front, said they didn't have enough room, but seated every white customer that came in right in the front. Someone brought our food dropped part of mine and acted like it was my fault and said he didn't need to replace it. I told the server and she said what do you want me to do? Punch him? She said she was busy. She was so nasty. I asked to speak to the manager, she told me, she's worse than me. Manager was nice. But..... Yeah, I'll pass on Dawson's On Main. Black Folks beware, they don't care. My money is green, but Black Lives Don't Matter at Dawsons. read more

Wonderful dinner on their outdoor patio! We celebrated my brother's birthday tonight and it was a fun evening. Our server Jaden had a fun personality and provided great service. We started with spinach-artichoke dip as an appetizer. I had the mahi-mahi, my bro and his wife had the salmon as our main entrees. We finished our celebration sharing a slice of cheesecake drizzled with raspberry syrup. The food was much better than I remembered from my past visits and the lively atmosphere was uplifting. I can not believe I have not reviewed this or it's sister location in Brownsburg (after multiple visits each). The food is excellent, generally I am eating here for lunch during a business meeting and it works great for either a casual meal or a step up beyond casual. This evening I had a chance to enjoy at a relaxed pace after work. The menu has many good selections from appetizers, salads and sandwiches to excellent entrees (the seafood and pork is awesome). Dawson's is one of my favorite restaurants. I have never been dissatisfied by anything that I've ordered. I don't eat red meat so I can't personally vouch for it, but my husband loves their steaks and pot roast. I've had their salmon, chicken, and salads, all of which are delicious. A few of my favorites are Alaskan Salmon, Tony's Favorite Chicken, and Chuck's Apple Harvest Grilled Chicken Salad. The service is always great. It gets busy at times and you may need to wait awhile, but it's with the wait!! I would highly recommend reservations, especially at dinner time. No matter how busy it is, the staff always keep their attitudes up and the atmosphere fun. You can't go wrong by choosing Dawson's. read more

I really want to give another star, but my food experience has not been great the last few times I've been in. Recently I came with a big group of family and tried the buffalo chicken tenders and fries. The fries were way over seasoned and not great. The chicken fingers lacked buffalo sauce and had an off putting taste. Service was great and our waitress was very kind and helpful. Lots of variety in this quaint restaurant just up from The speedway. Huge tenderloin sandwiches, large portions of onion rings. Drinks were very good and strong. I had the calamari and it was thick cut and not what i am used to so the texture was off to me but the sauce was amazing. I will go back and try something different.
