I get a haircut there around every 4-6 weeks, and recommend it to anybody that asks me where to get a haircut in Downtown. Environment Professional, spacious, clean, comfortable. There are two leather couches, a coat hanger, and even a coffee machine there (not instant coffee - real, fresh ground coffee). Service JB is my guy at Concept, and he is not only skilled but he actively maintains me as a client. He documents each cut, familiarized himself with my hair type, and can consistently replicate previous cuts or make adjustments depending on what I'm going for. Usually I just go in with a vague request like "Just a clean up, maybe some shaping on the beard" and he always delivers with something that looks good. You know those IG reels where they feature dramatic before and after transformations of men who look unkempt with overgrown hair + scraggly beard, and in sad shape? This was our cousin. 4 months ago he was ready to get his maintenance cut and we had a genius proposition. We asked him if he would be willing to do one of these before and after reels. It would be our job to take care of finding a barber. All it would take was for him to grow his hair out so that we could turn him into the next IG star. (Yes we aim high). He couldn't refuse. Fast forward to the big day. I found Concept on IG and out of the lineup of Barbers, I chose Kann, because sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and trust that it will all work out. I'd never been to Concept before and from the moment I stepped inside, I already loved the lighting and cleanliness of the shop. The exposed brick wall and high ceilings made the shop look much larger than it is. We introduced ourselves and told Kann about our idea of filming our cousin for his before and after transformation. Kann was the sweetest guy and was completely open to us from the start. We immediately liked him and he didn't mind that there were 2 of us there hanging out for the haircut filming and taking pics the entire time. Kann was extremely patient, skilled and meticulous as a barber. He used both scissors + clippers and gave my cousin what he wanted. We ended up going overtime and even though there was another client after us, Kann made sure to take his time to be as thorough as possible. She's right next door to classy non-pretentious bar, Paper Planes but look, don't worry about parking -- they'll point you to the free 90-minute spots. My fade is sharp, the goatee is flawless, and she handled the line-up with real care for sensitive skin. I'm almost 41 but walked out looking 31. The shop is clean, modern, and everyone takes their time. I even paid cash so the banks don't skim her, but they take all the phone payment options too. My girlfriend ain't letting me out the house with this haircut I got from Christian. If you ever need a haircut I recommend going to him.

My barber was Joe, and I personally do not recommend him. It's 78 dollar including the tips with 1 hour session. First of all, I brought the example, and maybe my example is not good enough or because it only has the front end. If that's the case, it will be nice for him to pointed out that if there's any other examples or how he, the professional barber, thinks about how to make my hair look good. Unfortunately, no. Then we nearly have no conversation about how to do the hair. The only few communication we had is when I asking how is my hair condition (if my hair is too dry, how will I have to maintain my hair if that's the case) . He answered typically compliments oh your hair condition is great, there's no hair loss such as I do ( ok, maybe I am too mean?). On the picture it definitely not looks like my hair is good at all, it looks fuzzy. The last is that i do not have any memories about if he had trim or touch anything on top of my hair beside the back and sides. The reason I came this place is because I saw it nearly the bar where I am going and the reviews seem good. Also, I am having an important meeting, and the experience just ruined my vibe. The image is when I finished 30 mins driving after the haircut. The hair looks way different right after we finishing the hair. It is just looks way awful. Took a chance on an open appointment with someone who isn't my regular barber. I booked with JAC, and even from the consultation I felt like this guy had an attention to detail that was refreshing for me. I'm a very flow with the go kind of guy and just told him he can do whatever he wants LOL. It's usually how I got by most of my haircuts. But then this guy started asking me questions and I had to really think about what I wanted. This cut was after I had gotten a perm and I knew it wasn't going to be easy to work with. Honestly was ready to just shave all of it off haha. But JAC explained what he was going to do and why, and all the way through asked if it was something I was down to do. And honestly I loved the haircut after. It suited my face really well, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to style it the same. JAC, without me asking, explained what product he used and what he did to get the look. He also let me know which products to stay away from because they would damage my hair. Whenever I get my hair cut somewhere, the first thing I notice is the vibe that the place gives. And the first thing you notice whenever you walk in the nice, chill vibe from the decor and the (somtimes) indie music they rotate throughout my visits. Overall, really great! My go to barber when I get my hair cut here is Thom! He always gives great insight of what haircut I should get, and lets me know what kind of style, name of the style i'm going for. A couple quick notes so that someone else doesn't experience the same. When booking a 60-minute appointment, don't expect to be in the chair the entire 60 minutes. My haircut lasted less than 30.... Two, I had to point out a clump of hair that was still hanging over my ears when the barber thought that he was done. Concept is a dope barber shop in DTSJ! Barber Thom Abellana is my barber! He does an amazing job in figuring out what you want and what's best with your hair type. I have alopecia areata, which causes bald spots in random spots on my head. My first cut with him, I had asked for a certain cut but was open to ideas. He said the one that I asked for wouldn't work well with my bald spots and suggested another style. Have been rocking the style since, and you can hardly tell I have alopecia thanks to him.
