Lots of yumminess going on here!
Berneta A.

Woah, walking into Daylight Bakery and Diamond Barrel for breakfast, is kind of like being back in Hawaii. You can order spam, rice, and scrambled eggs for breakfast! I'm still trying to figure out the prices here, nothing is posted and the counter ladies, add it all up in their heads, but I've concluded a little goes a long way. We once ordered 2 dumb bread loaves, 2 coconut drop scones, 2 oatmeal raisin cookies, a guava tart pastry, pineapple tart pastry, large coffee, large tea, fried fish rice, sausages, and eggs, and it came out to $22. That's a lot of food! This place only lost a star for the coffee. Coffee makes my brain turn on. Unfortunately (the sweet ladies at the counter admitted that they just pour water into the coffee dispensors to make more), the coffee isn't strong enough to make me into a decent morning human being. Something to keep in mind if you are going to have breakfast here. No the hot tea isn't caffenated I think it's a local "bush tea" with lemongrass. If you're feeling under the weather definitely have some. If stopping in USVI once try the dumb bread. What is dumb bread you ask and why is it dumb? Well its flour sweetened with coconut shreds or sugar. Back in the day it was cooked via Dutch oven which was called a "dum". I'm a savory person and I don't like my pastries too sweet. Daylights tarts, cookies, and scones are subtlety sweet which tricks my savory brain into wanting more! Writing this review makes me want to get a guava tart right now, they are drool worthy! The hot breakfast and lunch items while they are delicious are calorie packed fatty. Sausages, bacon, fried corned beef and salt fish are all good. The only dish I didn't care for was the fried fish rice, its just me though, the hubby and fur baby thought it was tasty. This is a pay at the counter, then dine in or take out kind of place, although most patrons prefer take out. Parking is a cinch, you have to park on the street out front, and there are always spots, but so long as half of your car is within the white line you're golden. Overall a great place to get your daily carb fix!

Visited this place late in the evening. The food was ok but I gave it 5 stars because this was the nicest owner and local on the island.

They are constantly coming out with hot and fresh baked pastries to restock the pastry case with, so whenever you come it you will always get a fresh and warm baked good with top notch flavor. I went with the Chai and it was one of the best I have had! I added lavender syrup to it and the flavor was there in the beginning and was really yummy. As for the spinach and feta croissant, it was amazingly buttery and flaky and overall the perfect pastry! The cashier that helped us was very welcoming and kind. The line moved quick and was filled with locals so you know it's a good place to get your start for the day. There is plenty of seating inside to enjoy your food, but also really easy to take in the go. Love me it here and will 100% be coming back

The coffee (and other beverages) were great, but what really stood out were the pastries. Excellent pain au chocolate, bread pudding, and other assorted savory breakfast pastries. Freshly made with flaky crust, truly delicious. On top of that, the service was efficient, they have a decent amount of seating, and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommend if you are staying in the area or just visiting on a cruise ship and you need a snack or pick-me-up!

We were immediately and graciously greeted by our hostess/server/bartender all-in-one Tiffany. She had the most charismatic personality and smile. I loved her energy! She explained the menu to us first timers and she even brought us complimentary drinks to try! The menu basically featured an array of proteins (chicken, shrimp, wings, salmon, etc) and sauces (jerk, creole, teriyaki, and the special shama sauce) you can pair it with. Sadly they no longer serve curry goat and they were out of oxtail the day we went. Each order also comes with choice of 2 sides. I ordered the jerk salmon with side of rice and peas and plantains. My salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I loved the slightly peppery spice from the jerk seasoning. The plantains were delicious. The rice was a little dry for my taste but went well with my salmon. My fiancé got the wings in shama sauce and this was SO GOOD. Would recommend. He also got a massive portion order of macaroni and cheese. They definitely make sure you don't leave hungry here. My friend got the shrimp and it was nicely seasoned as well. Prices were very reasonable for the portion. Everything was so plentiful! I had enough leftovers for a second meal. The only reason I can't give this 5 stars is the ambiance. The decor is very bare bone and feels like much more of a take out place than somewhere you would go for a nice lunch. There's also two TVs and they blast the sound here which can be very distracting when your group is trying to have a conversation. The bathroom could also use some TLC. Otherwise, the service and food was definitely a 5 stars experience for me. Would gladly return next time I'm in Saint Thomas!

We had the Rasta pasta, rice with pigeon peas, mixed veg and plantains on our first stop here. Jerk chicken was extremely tender and the sauce was the perfect amount of spice. The food did feel a little oily/fatty but we still mopped up our plates! They were out of baked Mac but certainly hope we can try it on the future, yum. Decent sized portions but everything was delicious and we wanted more! Prices are reasonable and match the portion sizes.

In a place where highly priced restaurant dot the island, The Chicken Fry is a great spot to pick up lunch and dinner (no tables) and fill your beach/work hunger. We had 3 big plate orders of stewed chicken, white rice, and yellow plantains, also comes with a side of beans. The chicken was moist and juicy especially with the savory sauce it was cooked with, the rice wasn't dry, the plantains ripe and well cooked, and the beans were seasoned and spiced just right. Service was friendly, fast even with the constant influx of people coming in. Fresh food was coming from the kitchen even by 745pm. The interior is simple, no frills, and well lit. We parked our car on the street and it took us less than 10 min to get our order. The road may seem sketchy to outsiders especially at nighttime but we had no problems finding the place. Would come back to try more of their food and would recommend! Small plates are around $8-9, and big plates start from around $12. Our big plate with the stewed chicken. Rice, plantains and a side of beans were $12 each. Oxtail big plate is $18 . Cash and credit cards accepted.
