I'll give the hotel a 3 because it was mostly clean. Also because the "breakfast" was terrible and laughable. There were 4 of us and only 2 cellophane wrapped honey buns, likely purchased at the gas station next door, and 5 or 6 bite size muffins. I mean one bite muffin.... There were also some flavorless apples in a basket by the desk and a toaster. When breakfast is advertised I expect a breakfast to help get me going in the morning, especially when we pay more for it . And we expect it to feed at least a family of 4! There were cigarette burns in the sheets and several several several beer bottles and cigarettes on the balcony by the room doors. Crickets made themselves at home all over the inside and outside areas. The pool was too dark after dark, all though the sign said it is open till 10pm. read more

Needed a place for me and a buddy on the cheap. Thankfully we found this place. The young man at the front desk was nice and accommodating. The cleaners were friendly, too. Lots of ice without a bad flavor. We saw not a single roach, sad if you are hoping to see all the ones mentioned in other reviews. If it makes you feel better, we did have 3 moody flies that kept to themselves. The room was clean at first sight. When you start to look closely, you find all the things you see at any older motel off the highway in a small town for a room under $100 a night. So why bother to inspect so closely and act all uppity in shock when you find these standard issues? Oh, yeah, because we are some entitled SOBs, aren't we? Yes, this is an older hotel in need of an update, but then where would we stay for under $100 a night? Oh, my. There are other places in town not as much in need of these updates. The outlet between the beds was as loose as my girlfriend. The plug kept falling out like her 10th baby. But there was another outlet just behind the night stand. The air from the air conditioner fills up the curtains like a tramp's skirt on a subway grate, so bring some old books to prop against them so the air gets into the room, instead. The roaches will appreciate a cooler room. It was a quiet room. We played annoying music but no one complained. Our fridge was missing a leg and each time we opened it it lurched at us like a brain-starved zombie. Made for a fun game of catch the beer before it tumbles out. They cleverly removed the smoke detector to let us assume that our room was being watched by a 2 way mirror instead of a hidden cam. We had no black mold in the room, so when we woke up coughing, we had to blame it on the pot we dreamed of smoking instead. The light in the bathroom didn't work, so we couldn't see the blood stains on the shower curtain. It was so disappointing. There were no bedside lamps, so the lighting wasn't as comfy as the places in town that charge a few dollars more. So go stay at those places if this is going to be an issue. The water was hot enough we could have boiled lobsters in the tub. Thank goodness there was a knob to control the heat. I didn't say the knob stayed on the whole time, but we got a room for under $100 a night. I can deal with a shower water knob falling off. There were some stains on the bottom part of my mattress. If they were sex stains, I sure would like to meet the folk responsible. They got some talented positions to make those in the locations I saw. The beds were comfy and each had 3 pillows. Great for the big egos that stay here. I'm so glad to hear the people say they won't stay there again. I would hate to come across them next time I do. They complain about the small seating area for the breakfast, like you can't take the packaged danishes and cup of coffee to the room to keep the bugs entertained while they watch you eat. There was a pregnant woman who complained the place was so bad I think she miscarried. read more

I stayed 1/08/2024 until 1/10/2024 in room 216. There was no hot water in the shower. I let the water run for about 10 minutes, and the water became slightly warm. The room was not worth the over $194 I paid for the two nights. If you stay here, be sure to check for hot water in the shower before you unpack. read more

Bugs in room. Loud... no insulation and you hear ever move the other guests make. Ac has a governor on it and will only cool to a certain temp...not cool enough. I'll try any other hotel rather than this one next time. Prefer softer bed. Not many positives here. Tv worked... about it. read more

Let me preface this review by saying: I understand we were staying in a Days Inn, in rural Texas, in a smoking room nonetheless. I wasn't expecting a Sheraton or Hilton, but I definitely wasn't anticipating ALL the issues we had with the room. We paid $375 for 4 nights at the Days Inn in Bastrop Texas. For $90 a night, this was our experience: 1st day: get into room, immediately BLASTED with cigarette smell. Like I said, I understand we were staying in a smoking room, but whenever I've stayed in smoking rooms in Las Vegas, the cigarette smell has NEVER smelled as pungent as it did in this room. It's like they didn't even care to try and spray anything in the room to even try to mask the odor. We didn't even end up smoking in the room because we didn't care to add to the stench. Then we actually inspected the room, and I soon wished I didn't have 20/20 vision. At first glance it looks like your typical motel room, but upon further inspection, this place looked like an abandoned motel that was haphazardly flipped by the owners to make a quick buck. I get it's a Days Inn, but I was at least hoping to have a functioning bathroom light/fan, and a TV remote that wasn't being held together with electrical tape. On top of the dilapidated furniture that looked like it was 50+ years old, it was not a good first night. But the icing on the entire cake for our FIRST NIGHT there, was when we saw a lovely little TICK chilling out on my pillow, just waiting to give me a big ol kiss. After finding and killing the little guy, we then proceeded to strip the entire bed, checking for any other friendly little creatures. Suffice to say I didn't get much sleep that night. We fortunately did not see any other bugs of that sort, and upon a THROROUGH inspection, no bed bugs to be found either, so we chalked it up to chance, and the Texas rainy season. It wasn't till night 2 that we found out WHY we had a little guy on my pillow. 2nd night: We woke up bright and early to head to Walmart and pick up some supplies, since the room looked like it had been cleaned by a caveman. Disinfecting spray AND wipes became my best friends, along with a bottle of peppermint/basil oil I used to spray both our mattresses *just in case*(peppermint/basil oil helps keep bed bugs at bay, FYI). After dousing the room with disinfectant and essential oils, it smelled SIGNIFICANTLY better than what we arrived to, so you're welcome Days Inn. Our second night, although we had a much better smelling room, still did not take away from the fact that we discovered our room door wasn't level with the frame, leading to four 1cm gaps on each side of the door, making a great passageway to all the cute little beetles and giant ants we had to kill every night we stayed there. Not to mention the door lock itself looked like it was put together by a toddler; it featured electrial tape as well(I think these people really like electrical tape, did I mention it was on the light switch for the vanity as well? classy) 3rd and 4th nights: our last two nights were spent just wishing to be back home. The service was beyond terrible, when I asked for some extra pillows they looked at me like I was satan. I don't think asking a HOTEL for extra pillows is such an offense, and considering the fact the sheets and blankets felt like sandpaper, I don't think some extra pillows is too difficult of an ask, but apparently it was. At the end, I knew this was all my fault. I should've looked at better hotels, I should've considered Airbnb's(trust me I'm kicking myself in the rear just thinking about it), I acknowledge there was a LOT more I could've done as the customer. But at a certain point you have to realize bad business for what it is, and this is an abolutely terrible business. Even upon kindly telling the owner our grievances, not expecting anything in return, we were greeted with blame for not telling him sooner. The gentleman that checked me in was a very nice guy despite they had to change my booking due to a Mix up on their part. The room was clean except for the bathtub it had been patched and looked terrible. Bed was comfortable for the hotel. I want to start off this review by saying that I would leave 0 stars if I could. This was easily the worst hotel stay I have ever had. Firstly, we happened to reserve the last king bed, non-smoking room a little over a week out from our stay. This hotel is located in Bastrop, which is the closest city to the renaissance faire to stay in, so they were booked up since it was a faire weekend. We happened to be out there for a wedding, so got in pretty late (around midnight) for check in. Once we got into the room, the heating/cooling unit was set to 69 and the room was freezing. It took forever to warm the room up, so much so I had to get into a hot shower to warm up. One of the two full-sized towels they provided were dirty as was the floor in the bathroom and the toilet. As I attempted to find an outlet to plug my phone into, I found that only one outlet in the entire room was functional. Because of this, I was unable to charge my electronic devices overnight or do my hair the next morning. This is especially problematic as my partner has a sleep apnea device and non-working outlets is not accommodating for those with disabilities. We were also able to pull a light switch out of the socket in the room which is an electrical fire hazard. Lastly, a construction crew rolled in and started work on an upstairs room just after 8AM and the housekeeper started banging extremely loudly on doors to begin cleaning rooms shortly after. We didn't intend to wake up quite that early, but didn't have a choice with as obnoxiously loud as they were. The construction crew was also throwing their trash all over the ground and walkway, so we had to step over trash as we left for check out. We expressed our concerns with the office staff when we checked out and asked to be contacted by a manager. We also asked if they would apply our military discount as well and were told that a manager would have to check into whether or not we qualified for a discount since we booked online through the Wyndham website. We called a couple of days later to follow up since a manager never got into contact with us and the front desk clerk was rude, asked "who is this?" in a nasty tone of voice and then he hung up on us. We verified that the phone number was correct and called again and a woman ("Anita") answered the phone. She was reluctant to give us the name of the clerk who answered the phone first and was then rude when we asked to speak with a manager regarding his behavior. When we asked for the number for the corporate office, she claimed it was 1-800-corporate, which is absolutely ridiculous. She said we did not qualify for a military discount because we booked online, even though we booked through the Wyndham website and gave no explanation for why a manager never got into contact with us. She asked what issues we had with the room and when we explained, she got heated and nasty with us and told us that we should have asked for another room if we had concerns regarding the room. I happened to know that I booked the last room of that kind and they were booked up for the renaissance faire and didn't feel like arguing with them at 1AM over cleanliness and non-working electrical outlets knowing I wouldn't be able to be moved into another room anyways. Instead, we sucked it up and dealt with it and voiced our concerns after the fact. We were frustrated and grossed out at first, but we weren't genuinely upset until we had to deal with the absolutely atrocious office staff that works at this location. For between $120-$150 per night, this 2-star hotel was a horrible waste of money and I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone. They obviously have no concern for their guests with disabilities and no respect for our veterans. Spend the extra $15-$20 and stay somewhere nicer. You'll thank me for it. read more

First of all the room was not very clean, and the shower didn't work right. Some bugs. The so called breakfast bar was tiny and crowded, and the coffee machine often ran out of coffee. Also, there was some language difficulty, and the managers did not want to be bothered. Worst of all, the advertised price for a room, $59.95 turned out to be false. You could not call the motel directly to make a reservation. When you called the hotel number, you would only get a reservation service, and that added on another $12.99. read more

I found $73 rate online through a trip-planning site, and when I called directly (because I had another question) the desk told me they'd honor the online rate. My sister and I shared a room - it was impeccably clean, very attractive bedding, coffeemaker, microwave and fridge all appeared to be pretty new. The online photos make it appear that the breakfast area is a little bigger than it is - there's just one table, so on a crowded weekend (as our visit was) there's some standing around. We got our breakfast items and went back to the room. No eggs/bacon/sausage, but they had fresh fruit, cereals, bagels, danish, muffins, waffles and toast. The personnel were very friendly - even came to our door after we checked in to make sure our room was satisfactory! We felt that we got a great value for the price. read more

We checked in around 10pm on Thursday and had prepaid on Hotels.com for 5 nights. We were charged a $30 pet deposit (flat fee, not per-night) for our little guy, which seemed pretty fair. The hotel parking lot was empty, but we were told they had nothing on the first floor available. The staff was not very friendly. We got a non-smoking room that smelled like it had been a smoking room very recently. The linens weren't very clean. The wifi is working, but the connection shows limited. I tried explaining to the desk how to reset the router but to no avail. There was no internet available all weekend. (I'm an IT guy, this wasn't a user-error.) The next day as we are packing up our truck to head to the nearby state park, a man approaches us demanding to see in the bag I am loading. He doesn't state he is from the hotel, and I promptly tell him No Way. He insists until I make it clear it isn't going to happen. He tells me he "knows I have a dog in the bag," (it was wedding gifts, actually.) He literally runs off, yelling at us that he is going to "charge us" when I try to explain that yes, we have a dog that we have already announced to the hotel and paid for. At this point, I'm guessing he is a hotel employee. We don't have time to deal with something that shouldn't be an issue, so we leave for the day. We hear nothing else about this. I'm fairly certain our room was gone through when we get back. (We left for the day well after housekeeping hours. Around 5pm) The next day when I ask the housekeeper for a couple of extra towels, we are told we can only have two in the room at a time. I brought her our dirty ones to exchange and she counted them before I could get more. Yes, they have a pool. We must use our own towels or our shower towels. My wife tries to sit in the office chair in the room and it is broken. I call the front desk and am told to carry it down to the front office (down the stairs) and he will replace it. I do this, thinking that it's probably not good policy to have customers carrying furniture up and down stairs, but oh well. He tries to fix the chair and cannot, so instead of giving me a new chair like the one I had (an actual office chair with arms) he gives me a folding plastic chair. I'm not sure why I couldn't just exchange it for one in another room. The staff could not have cared less. (This is also when I discovered the Yelling Man was the hotel manager.) Let me note at this point that we had to go to the desk at least once per day (a total of six times on a 5-day stay) to have our key reauthorized because we couldn't get into the room. This was a big hassle for them, and they made that very clear. My wife went up front and asked for another blanket, she sleeps cold and I sleep hot, and was given one that reeked of smoke after being questioned as to why she needed it. I'm glad that 'because I'm cold,' was a good enough reason. The blanket she got was gross. She ended up not able to sleep with it. We get to our checkout date and we need a late checkout. They inform us that we will be charged another night, even for an hour past 11am. We didn't have an option, one of us was sick at that time. So we call Hotels.com and extend our stay, they let us know the hotel will know immediately. I call the front desk and let them know that we extended our nights but will actually be leaving later that day and they verify they have confirmation from Hotels.com. We go to bed and a few hours later we are being called by the front desk, demanding that we pay for our extra night and another $30 pet fee (for less than one night!) I let them know that we've already paid and she won't let me off the phone until she checks her email again for the Hotels.com confirmation. I refuse to pay an extra pet fee and we are so frustrated at this point that we just pack up to go. While we are loading our vehicle we get more calls from the front desk demanding that we come to the office to check out, 'don't just leave the key in the room'. I checked out up front as they asked and was given hassle about wanting a receipt/copy of the paperwork I signed at check-in. It seemed very shady. He insisted that I didn't need one. I ended up getting one after 5 minutes of arguing. (I recorded this interaction.) We would never stay here again. There are several other hotel options in the area near the state parks that are similarly priced. Check them out instead. Pros: A/C was very cold. Worked great. Only negative was they had large blue bowls outside the rooms to catch the drainage. Bathroom was clean Big desk Near parks Free ice Cons: Unpleasant, suspicious staff to the point of hostility.
