Was advertised as a non-smoking room but was so coated in cigarette smoke it sent me into an mcas flare that I had to take meds that knocked me out for over a day to get through it. Asked to leave early first night but had no response on if I could get a refund for days not used so I stayed out of fear of losing that money AND the cost of a new place to stay. So I just took my meds and tried to rough it out, and didn't want to draw attention to myself any more since I was a lone woman traveler and it could be dangerous (this place seemed very sketchy, so I didn't want to get them upset with me for complaining). Didn't get a response back until Sunday, which by then was too late to do much anyway so I tried to stay until my intended checkout on Monday. I got my daughter back from camp Sunday afternoon and brought her back that evening, and she started having what appeared to be a lead up to an asthma attack so I checked out early. They refuse to even refund Sunday back, claiming I stayed when I didn't, and are saying the room was clean and it is non-smoking- which these reviews clearly tell you they are NOT. Hotels.com couldn't do anything to make them change their mind, so I have started a credit card dispute for services not as described, have contacted corporate, and plan to do a few more things to make sure this hotel does it's job and doesn't cause anyone else a miserable stay by not representing the property properly, because it is a health hazard. Mold, cigarette smoke, bugs... I paid nearly $150 each for Friday and Saturday and $80 for Sunday. This is a $50-60 motel at most. I know they'll probably reply saying I should have said something right away, etc etc but the whole place stunk- there was no way to accommodate me properly to the point of matching the listing aside from refunding and letting me go somewhere else, which they couldn't do because I was told by hotels.com that the person that could do that wasn't available. And I shouldn't have had to! If a room is listed as non-smoking, it should be non-smoking! There shouldn't be mold and suspicious red splatter on the ceilings like I have photo proof of. There shouldn't be cobwebs and bugs. There should be functional ventilation (the vent in the bathroom is unhooked and the switch removed). And a solo woman traveler shouldn't have to risk drawing negative attention to herself to get the room she paid quite a bit for. The rooms should match the photos and description, end of story. I wasn't PO at first until they replied and refused my refund saying the room WAS clean and lied saying I stayed Sunday night. Now I'm mad. read more

I unfortunately did not book this hotel and was forced to stay here. The people we came with got a renovated room with beautiful shower, no smell, no power extension cords everywhere, and then there was OUR a room. I walked in to SMELL. I don't know what the smell is l, but it is awful. The shower is extremely outdated with drop ceiling tiles that are rotting. I am a short girl and can literally poke at it with my finger. Who puts drop ceiling tiles in a shower?! The actual shower itself is filthy!! I lifted the tile above the shower and ODOR beyond control came pouring in!!! There was so much mold!!! I have been at work since 5am and drove for hours after work to visit Iowa for my first time with family. This was not what I expected my first night to be like. I asked for a renovated room being our traveling companions had one & we booked the rooms together on the same bill! They moved us to a room that was exactly the same but smelled worse. In the end we wound up staying in this stingy, stinky, room, and I have no intention of showering here, hopefully there is a YMCA near by or I can just bath in the Mississippi!! By the way for the internet lovers out there!!! Be prepared to use your data or bring some sort of hot spot. You are taking money from people to polute them with BLACK MOLD!!!! Robbing OLD PEOPLE!! Oh, boy, the toilet just tel filled after the thousandth time! - can't sleep here, paying for a room somewhere else, keep your money, you clearly need it for many renovations. I did not stay this time, and was going to get a room but decided against it after the disrespect I witnessed from the staff. My relatives, most from out of town, who have been staying for the past decade almost every July for our family reunion had booked many rooms, including the gathering room for multiple days this weekend. They, and I, have experienced such an unpleasant attitude from hotel staff and management, particularly the female front desk staff member who was raising her voice and tone with my elder relatives like they were children. They threw away the kids' floaties without notification that it was even an issue, yelled at my grandfather for having an EMPTY cooler and made him take it to his car, yelled at us to get out of the pool area when we were gathering our things to leave prior to it raining (reason the floaties were left in the pool), locked us out of the pool before we could grab some belongings or pick up after ourselves, yelled at a cousin to clean up a mess she did not even create in the parking lot (she was simply walking near it), and told my sister "I should make you eat that cereal with your fingers" because she asked for a spoon at 10:02 when breakfast ended at 10am. Very rude and unaccommodating when my relatives spent so much money to enjoy the rooms, gathering room, pool, and bar. The hotel staff acted like we were a huge inconvenience to them. Don't book parties then for anyone if it's such a big issue to actually do your job to accommodate and provide good customer service then? read more

We needed to stay a night in Dubuque for a concert. Days in was one of the better priced places we could find. The check in process was easy and the desk clerks were friendly. Our room was nice but the a/c was really loud when it came on. The breakfast was disappointing, very limited selection. Nice older motel. Recent room renovations. Friendly owner/manager who came over to fix our TV hookup as they had only recently switched to DirectTV and someone forgot to put batteries in the remote. WiFi bumps you off at times but if the guest WiFi won't connect try the other staff connections. WiFi is unsecured. Breakfast not stellar but adequate. Pool area clean. Little attached bar/grill has good fries (only thing we tried) but only bottled beer/beverages, an outside patio, and a live music performance when we were there. Music was too loud so ask for a room not near the end. Very clean rooms and grounds. Ask for a room on the cliff side if available (quieter). TV had Direct TV. Bed was comfortable. Enter from Hill Street (take the Mercy Hospital exit) - the Dodge Street address is a relic from before highway renovations and there is no entrance off Dodge. There were a few quirks to the room from recent renovations (loose shower control which worked but needed securing and small stains on the shower ceiling, had to unplug something else to plug in the coffee maker for example), but nothing affecting functionality. read more

The wife and I recently had a few days escape from the kids and ended up in Dubuque IA. We were headed to Galena but decided to save money by staying 15-20 minutes down the road. After doing much research and a bit of soul searching of pool vs no pool, nice room vs ok room we ended up at the Day's inn. The place is clean, and our check in went as expected. Having read previous reviews, we asked for a remodeled room. We stayed on the highway side. The bluff side is quieter but the noise from traffic wasn't bad at all. We had a king non-smoking. The room was clean except for a lipstick on the floor under the desk, which I could easily see missing. Checked the mattress upon entering as I am paranoid. Clean no problems there. The room wasn't perfect. It's a day's inn people, not four seasons. Bed was comfortable. Maid service was good. Refrigerator and microwave in the room. Looks like a fun pool area but it was not open yet. Did not try the food. Family owned and Ron (the GM) really seems to care. A superior value for those who would prefer to spend money on activities and not the hotel room. We stayed for three days and will come back. read more

Had to stay in Dubuque for work so I was looking for something inexpensive. The room was a humid, swampy mess with mold growing in the shower. Toddlers running around the parked cars while room doors were left open. Tried to call the front desk but the phone didn't work. I'm happy about the price. In the end, "you get what you pay for". Just be ready to have no WiFi when it counts and really bad cell phone reception here. Medevac helicopters aren't too loud, but they fly over to save peoples lives a couple times a day. "Breakfast" is ok, if you like waffles, toast, fruit, cereal, powdered milk dispenser, and really weak coffee. I need protein in the morning and found none. Would I stay here again? I am actually currently staying here at the moment. The Days Inn in Dubuque isn't a bad place. They have weekly and monthly deals which are a lot cheaper than other places. I believe there are not many other places that offer weekly and monthly deals around here that are reasonably cheaper than other inns/hotels. The majority of the time, the sink and counter is outside of the toilet/shower area, but there was one room that had the sink within the toile area. From what the front counter said, the majority of the rooms have a refrigerator and a microwave. That is my favorite thing about this place, so if I have left overs, I can eat them later on. :P Overall, the rooms are a small nice place to stay in. The only negatives I have about this place is the fact that the walls seem thin. The Days Inn also provide a restaurant and a bar. During the holidays, sometimes it seems to get a bit loud outside to the point where you can literally hear people's conversations. :D Secondly, I think the bed is a bit hard. It feels like the longer I stay here, the less and less sleep I get. It also seems that I can feel every move my boyfriend makes throughout the night, which wakes me up a bit. According to him, it's the same when I move. At first feel, the pillows feel extremely soft and comfortable, but like what Victoria H says, I think one pillow is not enough, yet two pillows is just way too much. I have not eaten in their restaurant nor drank at their bar, or eaten breakfast in the morning here so I cannot make any comments on that. read more

The workers are very disrespectful and cannot even remember the days they worked. PLEASE LISTEN, never ever even think about staying here!!! I'm by no means prissy or a prude. I've stayed in some shady places before. I'd rather sleep in a gas station bathroom, than this dump. This place should literally condemned. You can't get refunds or even talk to management. I should have known when I pulled up and drunk trashy people were wondering around. The ONLY reason I decided to still stay here is because of the super nice gentleman who was working at the desk. Literally saw fights in parking lot. If you're gonna be brave and stay here DO NOT bring kids. My dogs were even freaked out by all the people stumbling around. A man was kicked out of the bar doe groping women however he was allowed to wonder around the parking lot!!! What in the world?? Now let's talk about the rooms. I don't care if rooms need updating. That never bothers me as long as it's clean who cares. This room was a whole new level of disgust. The air conditioner had mold growing in it. The remote for the tv didn't work. Mold in bathtub. Blood outside of door. 2x4 holding up mattress which I didn't notice until I walked into it in the middle of the night. I never slept a wink. I felt itchy all night. Got bit by something right away. By far the worst experience ever. I had booked it for two nights. The next morning my friend went downstairs to cancel the next night and ask for a refund. He had to wait in line with about 5 others making complaints and wanting their money back. No help at all from the man working in the morning. He said you have to talk to the owner haVe is a business card. We called that number and it's the front desk. All they tell you is the owner will maybe be in later. I'm sure this happens every night. No one could actually have enjoyed a stay here. I'm gonna call the health department on them seeing that they won't even consider listening to our complaints. I never complain. The only positive things about this Days Inn were the low price and the friendly front desk staff. Otherwise, the room was quite dirty, smelled like smoke and overboard-cleaner, and you could hear everything outside and in the rooms next to you/above you. I'm not asking for a lot when I go to a hotel. I just need a bed to sleep on for a night, and that's it. I was surprised and overall really happy with my experience. First, I was a little worried because it's not in the most convenient location. With it being a motel and the doors to your room are outside feels a little sketchy....and the wandering clientele adds to that feeling. The room inside was nice and clean, and had no issue with the room. They have the regular amenities of a pool and breakfast in the morning. This location also had a bar and the night I was there they had a band. I did make it to the bar and the band was just adding, but I did like the bar. The two bartenders were very friendly and personable, got myself a pizza and a beer. The beer selection was pretty poor, but I didn't expect a hotel bar to have a big variety. The bar was very convenient as some times you don't always want to travel to get a drink, and you could walk there from your hotel room. I would stay here again if I'm in the area. read more

A pleasant surprise in Dubuque! Like all Days Inn properties, this started out life as something else. I last stayed here during the Reagan Administration when this was a Holiday Inn. If you look closely, you can see the tell-tale signs of its Holiday Inn days, but it matters little. This is a family owned and operated motel. The Days Inn Dubuque is an old-style motel, with outside entrances to each room. My room was large and comfortable. Amenities included a refrigerator, microwave, full-length mirror, digital flat-screen, a desk and chair, coffee pot, side chair and a comfortable king size bed. The old heater/air conditioner has been upgraded to a modern digital unit. And yes, they have WiFi. This is a large property, spread out on a shelf cut into the bluff, overlooking highway 20. (Take the Hill Street exit and look for the palm trees. Seriously. Palm trees in Dubuque.) The property is divided into four buildings, first one is the lounge, breakfast and office and the remaining three of them are lodging. The three buildings each have a WiFi hub, so unless some moron is streaming a movie, there should be enough bandwidth for everyone. In the heyday of the Holiday Inn, the bigger ones (like this one) had restaurants and lounges. At this Days Inn, the lounge is still there and operating, but the restaurant has been relegated to breakfast duty. Like almost all lodging these days, a good breakfast with a wide selection is included in a very attractive rate. So all this was forty eight bucks. This Days Inn packs a lot of value for $48,00, so it will be my lodging of choice when I'm passing through Dubuque. read more

My company booked here, for a couple of weeks. The rooms are pretty sizable with double beds, TVs, mini fridge. Rooms are not the cleanest, but nicely maintained. Free continental breakfast every morning is plentiful and decent quality, all in a large dinning area. They also have a pool, and a bar & grill., which I didn't get the chance to try. For $48.00 we got a one night stay with breakfast. The rooms were old and are in need of updating. Because this hotel has rooms in which patrons can smoke and bring their pets in, its smells and also attracts a varied crowd. Our room was not available for immediate check in. We were offerred immediate check in if we'd switch our room type which we declined. So we went to our next activity and later got the room we booked. The room was not very clean. Fingerprints were still on the mirrors. The bed made us itchy - yucko!!! This hotel is right off the highway exit, and all night we heard loud trucks hitting bumps in the road and several times emergency vehicles going by. The amenities in the room were nice and so was the breakfast. This gave it an extra point, else it'd be a 1 star. I would not choose to stay here again. read more

This is my first review of a hotel and for a good reason. At first glance I'm sure anyone would question the worth of their dollar for experience. I did this as I drove into the parking lot. After getting my key and driving towards my room there was only one thing I wanted more than anything else at this time. The absence of bed bugs. If I could have just that one thing, I could put up with whatever minor inconvenience that might happen to present itself. After checking the mattresses I released a sigh of relief and fell asleep for about twenty minutes. I was in town for an event taking place in Galena which is about 15 minutes away. The bed, pillows and sheets were comfy and clean. The shower had enough pressure to water down a town fire. I did not watch tv although it was available. The complimentary breakfast had a pleasant variety for those of us who aren't picky eaters. The only thing that didn't meet minimal standards was the quality of the wifi. One thing I need to add is their bar and grill, Spirits. I had no intention of patronizing the bar until I heard the sound of live music blaring from the main building as I headed towards my room at the end of the day and like a moth to a flame I decided that it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of drinks before bed. The bands played music professionally and passionately. I had more trouble leaving than I did staying. The bar staff was super friendly and accommodating. I had the pizza and chicken tenders which were pleasing to the mildly inebriated palate at a reasonable price. I would call it a pleasant, entertaining and comfortable stay for the cost and I would definitely stay again. read more

I decided to stay in this motel for a few days while I was visiting town for a funeral. When I walked into the room I could immediately smell the mildew. The morning I woke up on the second day, my clothing and covers were damp (I had brought my own sheets and blankets.) The floors were dirty, you could visibly see the filth. The bathtub was disgusting, there were stickers on the bottom of the tub to keep you from slipping that were almost black. The toilet had not been cleaned, there was urine on the edge of the bowl, and mold or mildew inside the toilet bowl. The tables in the room were dirty, obviously had been eaten on and not wiped down. The sink in the room was dripping and had left a water stain in the sink. There was water damage along the wall that had been attempted to be fixed. While I was staying there, the people in the adjoining room next to me attempted to walk into my room twice. To top it all off when I pulled my sheets off the bed when I was getting ready to leave I FOUND A BED BUG!!! I have never had bed bugs in my life, my home is clean so I know that this did not come from me! When I went to check out, the girl at the front desk was apologetic, and told me the manager would be getting in touch with me. The manager did not call me. We booked a room a few hours before checking in - on Fourth of July nevertheless. I did it online, so the whole process couldn't have been easier. We checked in around 9pm and went straight to our room. The room is nice. Small, but enough for 1 night's sleep. The beds are, well, felt more like "between a rock and a hardplace". The mattress was so incredibly hard. The pillows were very firm, but I felt like 1 wasn't enough and 2 were too much. The breakfast was nice. There are juices, bagels, doughnuts, coffee, and waffles. read more

You get what you pay for. I think when they switched rooms from smoking to non-smoking, they never did a deep clean on the rooms. Room smelt horrible! Like stale smoke and body odor! What my husband thought was black mold on the wall was actually dirt/cobwebs/hair! There was something (??) all over the tv and the remote control had hard crusty stuff all over it (again ??) We went to Walmart and bought blankets so we could sleep on them..afraid to sleep under the covers. If we hadn't come in so late, we would have packed up and found a different hotel. read more

Not sure why all the bad reviews. People have the most ridiculous standards. After a week on the road staying in all sorts of dives, this was a welcome stop. Convenient location just off the highway, very friendly staff, and we personally like being able to park just outside our room so we can keep an eye on the car and easily bring our luggage inside. Room was clean and quiet, and the bed was comfy. My only negative was some of the sketchy clientele hanging around, but that's to be expected at most motels, really. The facilities were rundown, but I can live with that. What I can't live with, however, is returning to the hotel at 11:00 pm, from a wedding, to be greeted by two intoxicated men standing outside my room that was wide open with all the lights on. Apparently the intoxicated men had been checked into my room and given keys. After notifying the front desk that they had been given the wrong room (which they claim to only have noticed after they walked past my purse, my bag, my book, my clothes, and discovered my tampons), no one contacted me or even bothered to close the door. I have never felt so violated or vulnerable. The management's response was beyond reprehensible. They said they'd leave the owner a note in the morning. If you value your possessions and/or safety, don't go near this place. The Marriott was a welcomed relief! read more

Room doors open to parking lot, and when we arrived at 8 pm on a Saturday evening there were a handful of rooms with doors propped open and people drinking and smoking in the parking lot. This is a MOTEL not a Hotel. So having a door like that means a lot more vechicle noise, and noise from tons of motorcycles! Hotel is slowly updating. I read online reveiws and wasn't sure what to expect but luckily we got 1 of the newer updated rooms. Even with that there are cracks in ceiling and though our shower was brand new toilet was old and seat kept coming off! Thank God I always carry a Swiss Army knife to fix little things. Breakfast was suppose to be going at 6:00 but both mornings we were there basically all that was out a little after 6:00 was cereal, not a good selection like I usually find at a Days Inn. But with a full hotel each night we wanted to eat early as to not be left with nothing (Dunkin adonuts 2 mins away). Great proximity to getting on and off main road way, shuttle busses o casinos, 3 minute drive to river front attractions. I recently had a hip "problem" and needed a ground floor room which the staff did very well by looking out for me and my needs. A mixed review. Budget friendly option. Ask the desk clerk for one of the newer, clean, with new mattresses/new carpeting rooms! Avoid the smoking rooms as they really stink! Avoid the back part of hotel as the clientele are very loud and possibly live here vs being travelers, and not friendly. The sports bar and pool area are very nice, but the bar food is microwave yuck! Order a pizza from Happy Joes! Bartendress recommended and she was right! Beer prices at bar were very affordable, just wish happy hour lasted until 7, as we checked in at 6 as happy hour ended. Reality - this is cheap but it's only 1 step above a dive! We switched rooms easily and our room was clean, newer furnishings, non smoking, and closer to front desk area. I wouldn't stay here if we had to stay in older section or around the back end. Our group of 8 are all CCW. This isn't a good place for a woman traveling alone. Signs say no pets, but we saw several well-behaved dogs with their owners. read more

Asked the lady at the the front desk for a list of taxis and an extra blanket in case a family member had to stay and all she gave a crap about was the 10 dollars for an extra guest. By the way she charged me even though she didn't even have an extra cott for the guest that I may have! She billed my credit card before I even made it back to my room. She actually didn't even care if the guest was gonna stay or not! Billed me anyways! Hate this place and the woman at the front desk can kiss my ass. I visited Dubuque this weekend and had an overnight stay here. The hotel advertised a pool, but I was unable to find one. The hotel also advertised wi-fi, but that was not available either. Upon entering my room I was greeted by the strong stench of Marijuana. The room was clean. I removed the blankets to inspect the bed, and a steak knife fell out of the comforter. The bed otherwise was clean and comfortable. I called the front desk to report the smell and housekeeping promptly came to freshen my room. She was very kind. At checkout we picked up our bagged breakfast, which was filled with sugar laden items (I am diabetic), a bottle of grape juice, a fruit cup, a nutrigrain bar, a granola bar, and a sweet and salty mixed nut and candy bag, but was still appreciated. Water in shower was strong and hot. Hotel has long term guests too, but there were no issues of noise, and everyone was kind. I turned in the knife at checkout, but staff had nothing to say about it. read more

Try finding another place to stay that includes PETS, refreigerator and microwave, free breakfast and doesn't break the bank. They have a weekly and monthly rate. I am staying here so my daughter can visit Clarke University. I chose this place because of the price and the proximity to the college. While the food and bar was good, the room is hot, like 80+ degrees hot. When I told the lady working the front desk she was nice enough to give ma a box fan, but told me she couldn't swap rooms for me because they are all sold out for Thus, Fri & Sat. WTF? I am here now and leaving Saturday and she can't move me to a room with AC? Not staying here again nor would I recommend anyone stay here. Caution : when staying here you have to have a card on file it's there way of being able to take your money . I stayed one night and was charged double for the room plus an additional charge for 150.00 for smoking when I don't even smoke . Was charged 330.00 for one night! Be careful they obviously do this a lot because when I complained they said basically there is nothing I can do. Poor service and not very welcoming. The man in the office wasnt welcoming at all and as soon as I checked in was asking about my card and kept telling me I have to have money on the card.
