At approximately 8:20 PM, I received a voicemail that there was a problem with service in the area. Apparently only one tow truck company is available in this area at night, and it had closed. We were told to expect assistance in 60 to 90 minutes. Great Barrington is a very busy summer resort town and this was a weekend where I would have expected a more robust availability of tow trucks on a Saturday evening. Hours later, I received voicemail from a NY towing service asking if I still needed assistance. I feel the communication was very poor. I was continually told I would receive a text informing me when the tow truck driver was on the way. This never occurred. I tried multiple phone calls to speak to a person, only to be forwarded by the online system. It was after 11 PM when assistance arrived. If I had originally been given correct information, I would have had the option of getting a ride to my hotel and arranging for service at another time.

I had to come up to Augusta for my college roommate's wedding. Rather than drive at least 6.5 hours…read more(or truly 8 or so including breaks and traffic), I did the slightly more expensive, but much faster alternative: fly. I flew into Boston and then took one of those fun 6-7 seat Cape Air flights straight into Augusta. That was a fun experience on its own. The airport itself is small, but has a few fun things of note. It's one of the rare situations where you can arrive within 40 minutes of your flight, get thru security, and then end up on your connecting flight without having to undergo more security. With a couple people at the counter and a couple TSA security guards, staff is tight, but effective. You get called to go into security one by one, thus leading to a pretty fast process. What's nice about this is if you have a connecting flight in Terminal C at Logan. You bypass doing security again and can end up at your connecting gate within minutes. I ended up booking two separate itineraries (Cape Air to/from Augusta and Jet Blue to/from Boston) just because it ended up cheaper. I wasn't checking in baggage, but I was able to book my flights within a short connection of one another to optimize my time. My flight into Boston landed at 4:14 and departed to Augusta at 5:35, plenty of time. I was more ambitious on my return and booked the 7am to reach Boston at 8:15ish to depart at 9. Still plenty of time, although weather can definitely play a role. When arriving, one thing that's available here is the Hertz car rental. I didn't use it, but it's good to know for business travelers. Just make sure you arrive when Hertz is actually open for the day. If you take one of the last flights, the Hertz station is closed. Also wanted to note that one of the women behind the counter (think she works for Hertz?) was nice enough to drop me to my hotel as it seems like taxis/Ubers/Lyfts are quite infrequent in the area. Unfortunately Sweet Chili Thai is closing soon, but that's a random perk of this airport too.

The bus drivers are great at what they do and each have cool personalities. Sometimes the buses don't have charging port on so just be prepared to go without sometimes or get a portable charger. Some stops don't have rain cover or food waterville does, augusta when open does, portland does not!

This was my second stay at this Homewood Suites, and I really appreciate that each room comes with…read morea kitchenette, including a toaster, stove, and dishwasher. I do wish there were utensils and plates in the room, though they are available in the lobby near breakfast. Breakfast is included, and the hotel has a gym and pool on-site (though the gym was under renovation during our stay--it would have been nice to know beforehand). They also offer free Wi-Fi and parking, both included. The main reason we chose this hotel is that it's pet-friendly, though there is a nightly dog fee. They seem attentive to dogs--each room has magnets you can place outside the door so housekeeping knows not to let them out. One downside is that housekeeping comes every other day instead of daily. I understand the eco-friendly approach, but it would be nice for guests to have the choice. The beds were very comfortable, the heating worked well (much needed in 7-degree weather), and the showers had good pressure and hot water. The room was clean, and staff were friendly, even remembering my dog's name. Overall, I really like this hotel; the every-other-day cleaning isn't ideal, but it's not a dealbreaker.
