It was nice to see tables added and new chairs (or chairs recovered) since our last visit. There is a big screen tv at one end of the room and today they had the football game on. As an appetizer we had the fried mushrooms special. My husband loves fried mushrooms so unfortunately these were a letdown. They were very watery and not seasoned at all. Also, the breading on them was extremely heavy. For main courses we had a bacon cheeseburger (medium rare no onions), the meatloaf special, and the spaghetti and meatballs. The burger came out medium and with onions. The meatballs on the spaghetti were large. The pasta was over cooked and dry. The sauce was a chunky red sauce that was mainly chopped tomatoes and there was not enough sauce to add moisture or cover the pasta. The sauce was also not seasoned. The meatloaf was ok but nothing special. The mashed potatoes with gravy were the highlight of this dish. Our waitress never checked in on us after our food was delivered to see how our food was or to refill drinks. After we finished eating, we waited for 15 minutes for our waitress with the check. She never came. We ended up going to the front and asking for it. She didn't seem concerned that we had waited that long or that she never checked on us. This experience makes me sad as we need good places to go in Dayton.

We had a reservation on a Thursday night so seating was easy and highly recommended. The service was friendly and spot on. The ambiance was wonderful, very well thought with an interesting history worth reading about when you go. The food was a real treat and we are looking forward to experiencing J's again soon.

Tonight we came out to Js for my husband's birthday…read more The restaurant was clean, dimly lit, and fairly loud. Our waitress was good but not one of our favorites. Our waters were never filled and our non-alcoholic beverage drinkers were never checked on to see if their drinks were ok/wanted something else/need anything. She also only checked on us 1x right after the food was dropped off to see if we needed freshly ground pepper and not again until it was time for desert and the check. For appetizers we had the Thai Scallops and the special Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus. The Thai Scallops are one of our go-tos and they were good; however, they were pretty heavily breaded tonight. The Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus was good but was hard to eat and could have used a bit more cooking. For my main I had the linguine and clams. I was HIGHLY disappointed in this tonight. The noodles were delicious and beautifully done but the "sauce" was nothing but pasta water. There was flavor: no garlic, no butter, no clams-no flavor whatsoever. The clams were also macerated as if someone chewed them up and spit them in the dish for me. My husband had the ribeye with gorgonzola butter and polenta. Everything was cooked beautifully and seasoned perfectly but his chunk of butter (his favorite) was so frozen it never melted-even by the end of the meal. For desert, my husband had the bread pudding and we had the crème brûlée. My husband said the bread pudding was good but slightly dry and cold. The crème brûlée was horrible. We sent it back and got "oh sorry someone new made them-big fail" and laughing. The brûlée was not even close to being set so it was pure liquid. It wasn't even a consistent temperature. After years of loving eating at Js and celebrating milestones here it makes me sad to see how quality is slipping.

We shared a prime rib dinner. Our server Kristin was a really nice young lady. We enjoyed some coffee while we waited for our food which arrived shortly. I have to say we were really surprised how good this prime rib looked. I mean it really looked amazing. As we dug in we were kept saying how good it was and in a casino restaurant at that! The meat was so tasty as were the vegetables that came with it and the baked potato. We couldn't have been more pleased. Awesome food and great service in a laid back atmosphere. My last review of this place wasn't too good. So it's nice to give them a better review. They also do a great breakfast here. Come check them out!

The food left lots to be desired. To start, we had the macaroni wedges. These were fried perfectly but only had the macaroni inside-no cheese. The cheese was the nacho cheese on the side to dip it in. With how hot the wedges were the cheese sauce did not stick to the wedges. My dad had the fish and shrimp. The platter was basic and had no seasoning. The fish was cooked correctly but the shrimp was very undercooked. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger. The burger came out very burned, dry, and without bacon. A side of bacon to add to his burger came to the table when he was about 1/2 way done eating. I had the BLT. The bread was soggy and soft. The ratio of bacon to tomato to lettuce were extremely off.
