We just had a wonderful meal at the Crown Point Restaurant in the Gold Hill Hotel. The restaurant had a rustic atmosphere with plenty of references to the deep history you would expect from a restaurant in this area. What you don't expect is the fabulous dishes that we were served and the quality of the food and service. The good: the meatloaf dinner, chicken dinner, and the wedge salad were all very good. The disappointing part was that the beet salad was hard as a rock and nothing like the version we enjoyed when we dined there in 2025. The lobster bisque was bland and only served lukewarm. We came for the combined dinner/ghost tour. We were not sure what to expect with a pre-paid dinner but everything was really good. The restaurant is clean and comfortable but has a historic feel being attached to the original hotel. We got there a little early but we were able to sit down right away and get started with drinks and appetizers. Our pre-paid dinner included one of several entrees - we chose the salmon and tri-tip. Drinks, dessert and appetizers were extra and we tried the crab cakes. They took a while but they were so fresh and delicious! My salmon was cooked perfectly and my husband loved his tri-tip. He also loved the bread pudding - a very generous portion. Our server was also very friendly and we learned a little more about the recent history of the hotel. While I realize it was a BUSY weekend (we went on Friday instead of Valentines nite), we won't do that again. Immediately as we stepped into the bar, it was quite chilly so we left our jackets on. Upon getting seated at our table, it was also chilly inside the restaurant part. Our waitress was very sweet and met our needs UNTIL it got busy. Our meal was quite pricey for what you got...my friend had FOUR scallops on a bed of parsnip purée with a few roasted vegetables for $52.00! I could tell she was STILL HUNGRY after she finished her meal. It did take quite awhile for our waitress to revisit our table where we finally got to ask for the bill as she was overwhelmed with customers. The Crown Point Restaurant is located inside the oldest operating hotel in Nevada which is also reported to be very haunted. The restaurant is open only at dinner time for a short few hours and there are 14 tables so reservations are recommended. The restaurant serves steaks and seafood and there is a full service bar. The food was very good. My only complaint would be there was one server, one helper and one bartender. There were no other personnel in sight all of Saturday. It was an enjoyable weekend, fun and different and very enjoyable. read more

A visit to Virginia City isn't complete until you've stayed at the Gold Hill Hotel, or at least dined in their Crown Point Restaurant, or at the VERY LEAST enjoyed a drink at the amazing historical bar. We dined here on Saturday, April 12th 2025, and we can't wait to return. Our waitress, Brooke, was simply awesome, attentive and so friendly. The bartender, TJ, made us a delicious Bloody Maria ( a bloody Mary, but made with tequila), and an Irish Coffee to start us off. The menu was large and adventurous, and we noticed the prices were VERY reasonable, more reasonable than Reno restaurants. The chef, Orson, prepared our Tri Tip Entrées with an outstanding blend of skill and flavors. The Tri Tip was tender, plentiful, the best we've had in a long, long time. To put an exclamation point on this wonderful dining experience, we chose the warm bread pudding from the dessert menu, and it was SO delicious. The chef and this kitchen are truly First Class. The restaurant is clean, inviting and has a true charm. It and the Gold Hill Hotel are a worthy ambassador of the old world magic that is Virginia City. read more

I've been here a couple times for food and the cook leaves a lot to be desired. We had the meatloaf sando yesterday....burnt to a crisp! Basically inedible. Weeks before, friends and I went in for steaks. The meat was great but the 'chef' puts do much damn gravy on it that you can't even taste the meat. A good steak doesn't need to be swimming in sauce, especially when you pay that much for a cut off meat. The bartender was great. The building is awesome but the cook there is a grumpy asshole who didn't respond to me when I was trying to talk to him. He was very rude and just not professional at all. Fortunately, the bartender there (Taylor) was a great time and very entertaining and a wealth of knowledge about the bar and the Virginia City area. If you decide to stay at the Gold Hill, consider having Uber Eats delivered to you at the bar. Even though it will be cold by the time it gets to you, it will be better than the (literally) burnt black food that the chef prepares. That cook needs a change of jobs or something because it is quite obvious that he just doesn't give a damn anymore! This is not my 1st bad experience with the food there, it's not even my 3rd! Unbelievable! What a gem. Not only is this historic location warm and inviting on a chilly evening, but the chef prepares surprisingly good cuisine served with a smile. I love historic buildings. I love great food. This is all in one! Tri tip was juicy and delicious, the sauce was also divine. Another person got the rib eye and lobster ravioli and said it was divine and the broccoli cheddar soup was especially tasty. I can't wait to go back! We (party of 6) stopped by for dinner after a chilly seasonal train ride in VC without a reservation and were seated immediately. Stopped in for a drink after visiting the Event in VC "Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry" What a great find. When you walk into the bar you are set back to 1859 scene. The atmosphere was welcoming and greeted right away by friendly staff. They have a nice fire place that keeps you nice and warm (especially appreciated this was due to the weather) Ordered an Irish Coffee If you are in the area you should stop by and have a drink and order some food. read more

My family and I had dinner here prior to a ghost tour. I didn't think to dinner was going to amount to anything as it in a very touristy area. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. First, the drinks from the bar were served perfectly. I had a martini which was perfectly chilled and my wife had a couple glasses of wine, which were very good pours. All of our dinners were great. My son had the burger, which was huge. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare. My wife had the salmon and my daughter had the chicken fettuccine. Both were great. I had the tri-tip, which I would highly recommend. Even though we were all stuffed, we decided to share a couple of desserts. We did the brownie/ ice cream and bread pudding. Both were delicious. This restaurant is a hidden gem. It was one of the best meals we had on our vacation. We will be returning. Also the ambiance of the restaurant was nice. It had the feeling of an upper scale restaurant. Dark wood, white tablecloth and lots of windows looking out over the remnants of the mining town. I also have to add the wait staff was helpful and cheerful. Food was served timely, so we could enjoy our drinks and conversation. The ambiance definitely was there, but honestly, under staffed and the food was not up to par:(. My husband ordered the Tri tip and when his plate came out it literally was about 4 bits of meat, meaning 4 bites of cut up meat. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad and unfortunately, the chicken was frozen and not edible. Honestly the last time I was here was 8 years ago on a media day with Yelp. New owners and chef. Same great old west charm. Now that Covid is winding down, the Crown Point is bringing back its wine dinners. Smitty from Regency Wines meets with the CP chef and create a 6 course dinner paired with 6 wines. The Spring 2022 dinner paired house favorite menu items with Europe and California wines. This Sunday late afternoon event started at 4:30. So I suggest arriving in Virginia City a few hours early to take in the great shops, then drive a short mile south to Gold Hill. The Crown Point is located in the historic Gold Hill Hotel. Dine, drink all the pairings, and get a room. Enjoy. Six courses seemed like a lot, but each was perfectly portioned. The wines, well poured. I like the chef chose menu favorites, rather than create dishes I can't return for. Shrimp cocktail with small sweet shrimp in a sauce that had just enough horseradish kick. Mmm, the lobster bisque is the one dish I would highly recommend. The Caesar salad was nicely dressed with fresh crisp greens. The cheese and fruit plate - was the perfect pairing with manchego and smoked Gouda with the Blissful Red. At home that could be dinner any week night. The tri tip was a nice tender Med rare. The garlic mast potatoes well a little underwhelming, too smooth and not much garlic flavor. The brownie, simple but decadent. The wines - an old favorite and a new found favorite. I'm not a champagne fan, so the Montmartre Brut was a nice surprise variation. Not dry or excessively sweet. Le Cengle Rose was light, and not the usual raspberry overture. A nice hot summer sipper. Cantina Valadige Pinot Grigio had that crisp green apple note. The Blissful Red was the winner of the night. A great bold red blend that can be paired with steak or lasagna. This is why you should attend wine dinners. It's all about the discoveries. This is about a $20 bottle, impressive and affordable. Kale was a discovery from 2 years ago, so I was really excited to see them on the list. Their Home Run Cuvée and a complex blend with a nice dry finish. Totally picking up a couple of bottles to share with friends. The New World Port was good. Some say it's sweet, I don't. It's new world, not Portuguese. It lack that warm caramel note that a port should have. But still a nice finish to the dinner. All this food, wine, and discussions with the chef and wine consultant for $100 a person. Hopefully they are returning to host them quarterly. I would attend again. In Reno this could range from $125 to $265. read more

Made a reservation June 26, 2025 for anniversary dinner on July 11. 2025. The reservation was for 4 people at 5pm. The reservation was on phone and the speaker was on and all 4 of us heard the date and time. So no mistake and l certainly know when my 26th anniversary is. Made the reservation with a person I knew from years past when we worked together. She never mentioned the restaurant was closed that day for a wine dinner and all 4 of us heard her confirm the date and time. We arrive at 4:30pm order a round of drinks and wait to be seated. Waitress comes out and informs us restaurant is closed because they are having a wine tasting dinner and they are sold out. I walk into bar and speak with the owner and told her what happened, there was no apology and she said we could stay for the wine event which was sold out. We paid for our drinks and left. My friend put a review on Yelp stating all this and the owner complained to Yelp and said my friend was lying so Yelp removed the review, didn't know Yelp was allowed to do that based on one person. I'm here to say my friend wasn't lying. The owner accused her of working at one of the restaurants in town which is ridiculous and a lie. She also accused us of not supporting small business, another false statement we have been coming to Goldhill for 30 years. But make no mistake no more, l will tell everyone in my family and friends how we've been treated. Goldhill and employees screwed up period. The owner has a unkind review in town and now l see why. The owner has made this situation worse for herself when a simple l'm sorry and buying a round of drinks would have been sufficient. read more

We came here on a Saturday night, after checking in at the attached Gold Hill Hotel. The hotel, which opened in 1861, is the oldest in Nevada. They were quite busy when we arrived, which I took as a good sign. The owners bought the place in early 2017 and went from being open two nights a week to five. I started with the bacon potato soup. It was creamy and had plenty of bacon and potatoes. It was a good choice. I also ordered a ribeye steak, topped with a demi glace but minus the blue cheese, plus onion rings. Hey, we weren't in the potato state one stop north, so I was free to order something other than a spud. My girlfriend had the Crown Point chicken, breasts filled with jack cheese, parmesan, garlic and fresh herbs. It was topped with a while wine Parmesan cream sauce and served with mashed Yukon gold potatoes and roasted vegetables. Everything tasted good. Service was attentive and friendly. read more

We were staying in the Gold Hill Hotel so decided to have dinner here in this restaurant which is co-located. When we first walked it seemed to be a little confusing since this restaurant halls 3 different areas (bar area, dining area adjacent to bar and a more formal dining area). We entered through the informal area from the hotel stair entrance, and stood around a bit before we asked if we seat ourselves or need to be seated. We were told we could pick which ever area were wanted so we proceeded to the more formal dining area. The servers seemed to be a bit thrown off when we stated we didn't have reservations. At this time the restaurant only has about 3 partied seated, but the restaurant did get busier as time went on. We were seated near the southwest corner near the wall at table 3 which didn't have any view out the large windows. Most of the other tables seemed to be positioned better with ours being the exception. Menu selection was good. We tried the Shrimp Scampi and Ghost Burger. The scampi was good and shrimp plentiful, however we noticed that the pasta was supposed to be angel hair but instead it was a mix of angel hair and spagetti. Made us wonder if the ran out of angel hair and started using spagetti. If this is the case they should of just used spagetti and informed us when ordering they didn't have the angel hair so we could decide if we rather have something else instead like the Lobster Ravioli. The Ghost Buger was good sized and cooked well, but probably could of used a bit more of the Ghost Sause (jam) on it. Side salad with blue cheese was good. Our Cream Burlee was not the best we have ever had since the camelized sugar crust on top was overcooked, too thick and hard, however the custard part was very good. Service was decent but not as attentive as I would of expected. Food took alittle while to come out and it would be nice if they served some bread or rolls while you were waiting. Classic Nevada! We enjoy coming here. The Gold Hill Hotel has been a staple in Nevada for a very long time. Don't expect 100% top notch accommodation, after all the oldest continuing serving hotel in Nevada has a bit of wear and tear but that makes it classic Nevada. The accommodations are very pleasant and comfortable. The Crown Point Restaurant on the other hand is pretty top notch! We came here for a special occasion and absolutely enjoyed our meal and time here. We both had the house salad (that was very good size) only complaint was there was a bit too much dressing on mine. Ask for the dressing on the side and you'll be good. We also both had the Salmon with beurre blanc sauce and were very pleased with the flavor and textures. Yukon gold mashed potatoes and wild rice were well prepared and the seasonal vegetables were an added treat. Our server Sally ;) was a real pleasure and very helpful throughout the evening. Save room for desert and if not order it anyway! The Mango Sorbet is amazing!!!! We will be returning to this lovely Nevada classic and encourage you to do the same. read more

Amazing restaurant! Tucked away in a small mining town is a restaurant right out of San Francisco! Fantastic Rustic bar with a very kind and knowledgeable bartender who really helped us to pick the right wines for dinner! Our waiter, "Mathew" was excellent, and very kind, considering he was the only one serving in a packed house. However even the owner pitched in. We ended up ordering four appetizers (crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms being our fav), poke salad, spicy clam and mussel linguini, and shrimp scampi. The noodles were cooked to perfection that even Bobby flay would have been proud. The sauce was out of this world. Ceasar salad was excellent considering they don't use sardines!! They served a Italian roast coffee that was a perfect end to a wonderful evening of culinary delights! Amazing! read more

Crown point was not what we expected. Food was average and the decor was not really rustic. Our waitress was super nice. However, the restaurant puts their staff members in a really bad position. We were charged a 33% gratuity on each individual check for the group we were with. The manager did change our checks but the amount still did not come out correct. When calling the restaurant everyone who answers the phone is kind of rude. Will not be returning. Restuarant in Virginia City are much better and cheaper. read more

We arrived, having traveled by shuttle from our hotel and were seated with our dog. Once our drink orders were taken, we were asked to move our dog out of the walkway. Shortly after that we were approached by a manager, I assume, and rudely told to take our dog outside or leave. The situation could have been handled much more professionally and courteously. The front of the house didn't say anything when we came inside with the dog so we figured it was ok. Unfortunately m, we cannot attest to the food. We've driven past The Crown Point Restaurant inside the Gold Hill Hotel & Saloon many times since we are building a house in the Virginia Highlands. Tonight we stopped in for dinner because we had a family member with us. What a delight! Dinner was the best meal we've had out in a long time. Selections were the French onion soup (house made), the Tri-tip, Ribeye, and a New York strip steak with onion rings. The Tri-tip and ribeye were outstanding! The New York steak was dry and tough, so would not recommend unless you like your meat that way. The onion rings were light and delicious. The vegetables that came with the meal were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We were so full that we didn't order dessert, but I can see us returning for wine and a chocolate dessert another night. We'll be back! My only negative was they turned up the music (crooner singers) halfway into dinner, which was too loud for pleasant table conversation. read more

What can I say...we stayed in the hotel just happy that it had a restaurant and bar. We left wanting to come back! The food and service was well beyond what our expectations were for a small place. I ordered the salmon....PERFECT!! The veggies....PERFECT!! My husband had the prime rib with mash...PERFECT!! I have to say I am typically very critical of my food. We come from a big city with a million five star restaurants....so coming here my expectations were not high. WRONG! We will be back!! Side note... we had a couple pre-dinner cocktails.
