    We came for the combined dinner/ghost tour. We were not sure what to expect with a pre-paid dinner but everything was really good. The restaurant is clean and comfortable but has a historic feel being attached to the original hotel. We got there a little early but we were able to sit down right away and get started with drinks and appetizers. Our pre-paid dinner included one of several entrees - we chose the salmon and tri-tip. Drinks, dessert and appetizers were extra and we tried the crab cakes. They took a while but they were so fresh and delicious! My salmon was cooked perfectly and my husband loved his tri-tip. He also loved the bread pudding - a very generous portion. Our server was also very friendly and we learned a little more about the recent history of the hotel. We would definitely return for another meal in the future. It's such a beautiful, historic gem in Gold Hill worth exploring.

    The Crown Point Restaurant is located inside the oldest operating hotel in Nevada which is also reported to be very haunted. The restaurant is open only at dinner time for a short few hours and there are 14 tables so reservations are recommended. The restaurant serves steaks and seafood and there is a full service bar. The food was very good. My only complaint would be there was one server, one helper and one bartender. There were no other personnel in sight all of Saturday. It was an enjoyable weekend, fun and different and very enjoyable.

    A visit to Virginia City isn't complete until you've stayed at the Gold Hill Hotel, or at least dined in their Crown Point Restaurant, or at the VERY LEAST enjoyed a drink at the amazing historical bar. We dined here on Saturday, April 12th 2025, and we can't wait to return. Our waitress, Brooke, was simply awesome, attentive and so friendly. The bartender, TJ, made us a delicious Bloody Maria ( a bloody Mary, but made with tequila), and an Irish Coffee to start us off. The menu was large and adventurous, and we noticed the prices were VERY reasonable, more reasonable than Reno restaurants. The chef, Orson, prepared our Tri Tip Entrées with an outstanding blend of skill and flavors. The Tri Tip was tender, plentiful, the best we've had in a long, long time. To put an exclamation point on this wonderful dining experience, we chose the warm bread pudding from the dessert menu, and it was SO delicious. The chef and this kitchen are truly First Class. The restaurant is clean, inviting and has a true charm. It and the Gold Hill Hotel are a worthy ambassador of the old world magic that is Virginia City.

    Unbelievable! What a gem. Not only is this historic location warm and inviting on a chilly evening, but the chef prepares surprisingly good cuisine served with a smile. I love historic buildings. I love great food. This is all in one! Tri tip was juicy and delicious, the sauce was also divine. Another person got the rib eye and lobster ravioli and said it was divine and the broccoli cheddar soup was especially tasty. I can't wait to go back! We (party of 6) stopped by for dinner after a chilly seasonal train ride in VC without a reservation and were seated immediately. It was a Friday night and there was a splendid musician playing guitar and singing. What a lovely evening! Ps: My mom uses a walker and got in easily with some assistance needed getting in the side door.

    Stopped in for a drink after visiting the Event in VC "Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry" What a great find. When you walk into the bar you are set back to 1859 scene. The atmosphere was welcoming and greeted right away by friendly staff. They have a nice fire place that keeps you nice and warm (especially appreciated this was due to the weather) Ordered an Irish Coffee If you are in the area you should stop by and have a drink and order some food.

    Honestly the last time I was here was 8 years ago on a media day with Yelp. New owners and chef. Same great old west charm. Now that Covid is winding down, the Crown Point is bringing back its wine dinners. Smitty from Regency Wines meets with the CP chef and create a 6 course dinner paired with 6 wines. The Spring 2022 dinner paired house favorite menu items with Europe and California wines. This Sunday late afternoon event started at 4:30. So I suggest arriving in Virginia City a few hours early to take in the great shops, then drive a short mile south to Gold Hill. The Crown Point is located in the historic Gold Hill Hotel. Dine, drink all the pairings, and get a room. Enjoy. Six courses seemed like a lot, but each was perfectly portioned. The wines, well poured. I like the chef chose menu favorites, rather than create dishes I can't return for. Shrimp cocktail with small sweet shrimp in a sauce that had just enough horseradish kick. Mmm, the lobster bisque is the one dish I would highly recommend. The Caesar salad was nicely dressed with fresh crisp greens. The cheese and fruit plate - was the perfect pairing with manchego and smoked Gouda with the Blissful Red. At home that could be dinner any week night. The tri tip was a nice tender Med rare. The garlic mast potatoes well a little underwhelming, too smooth and not much garlic flavor. The brownie, simple but decadent. The wines - an old favorite and a new found favorite. I'm not a champagne fan, so the Montmartre Brut was a nice surprise variation. Not dry or excessively sweet. Le Cengle Rose was light, and not the usual raspberry overture. A nice hot summer sipper. Cantina Valadige Pinot Grigio had that crisp green apple note. The Blissful Red was the winner of the night. A great bold red blend that can be paired with steak or lasagna. This is why you should attend wine dinners. It's all about the discoveries. This is about a $20 bottle, impressive and affordable. Kale was a discovery from 2 years ago, so I was really excited to see them on the list. Their Home Run Cuvée and a complex blend with a nice dry finish. Totally picking up a couple of bottles to share with friends. The New World Port was good. Some say it's sweet, I don't. It's new world, not Portuguese. It lack that warm caramel note that a port should have. But still a nice finish to the dinner. All this food, wine, and discussions with the chef and wine consultant for $100 a person. Hopefully they are returning to host them quarterly. I would attend again. In Reno this could range from $125 to $265.

    Fantastic, friendly service. Ashley our waitress was wonderful and committed to give great service. The food was quickly prepared with excellent taste! chefs kiss. The atmosphere was very historic which is perfect for a true mining town.

Our group booked months in advance and responsibly kept the restaurant updated as our party size changed, which the staff appreciated. We were eager to attend and had been looking forward to the evening, especially once the special holiday menu was released. Unfortunately, the prix fixe menu was not published until just days before New Year's Eve. It was a six-course, classic French-style menu with wine pairings at $150 per person. While the menu sounded interesting, nearly every course was meat-based, with the exception of the salad and dessert. We had one vegetarian in our group, so I immediately called to ask about accommodations. I left multiple messages (including on the private number provided for event coordination), but never received a callback prior to the holiday. Given the cost and formality of the meal, this lack of communication felt unprofessional and disappointing. On the night of dinner, our table was ready, and we were seated promptly. Service overall was attentive and friendly, though not without flaws. Despite asking for water multiple times throughout the evening, I never received any and ultimately had to get my own from the Delta Saloon bar next door. As for the food, the quality was mixed and the portions were extremely large--so much so that most of us could not finish courses four through six and took food home. While generous portions aren't a bad thing, the overall heaviness of the meal made it difficult to enjoy the full experience. Highlights included the Niçoise salad, which was beautifully plated and delicious, and the bone marrow, which was rich and well-served as a shared dish. The foie gras was tasty but overwhelmed by an excessive amount of fig jam, throwing off the balance and making an already rich dish even heavier. The sole with hollandaise was a major disappointment. The fish was mushy and completely drowned in an unusually spicy hollandaise that overpowered the dish. I barely touched it. By the time the beef bourguignon arrived, I was already uncomfortably full, though what I did taste was good. Dessert was crêpes suzette, which I had never had before. While interesting, it was extremely sweet and saturated in butter--two bites were more than enough. One particularly baffling moment was the bread service: butter was served with olive oil poured directly over it. This combination was unnecessary and unappealing--one or the other would have sufficed. Financial transparency was another major issue. During wine service, our server continued refilling glasses. When one of the paired wines ran out, she casually replaced it with another Sauvignon Blanc without mentioning that it would be an additional charge. When the bill arrived, we were shocked to see $20 per glass added for this wine. This was never communicated, and given the menu advertised the dinner as "all inclusive," this felt inappropriate. Additionally, gratuity was added automatically, which is fine--but should have been clearly stated upfront. To make matters worse, a 3% credit card processing fee was added without any prior notice. For a table of 20 at this price point, it's unreasonable to expect guests to pay in cash or be surprised by hidden fees. By the end of the night, each guest paid $210 or more, depending on extra wine charges. Our vegetarian guest was charged $75 for three simple dishes and unlimited beer (since she doesn't drink wine), plus gratuity--an amount that felt excessive for what was provided. Ultimately, while some dishes were enjoyable, the meal was overwhelmingly rich, poorly communicated, and riddled with unexpected charges. I ended up with a stomachache severe enough to leave the New Year's Eve festivities early. Our group visits Virginia City every New Year's Eve. Last year we dined at the Gold Hill Hotel and had a wonderful meal with clear pricing and no surprises. Next year, we'll be returning there--or opting for a more casual, reliable spot like Red Dog or the Palace. I would strongly recommend The Sawdust Corner improve transparency around pricing and fees, publish special menus earlier, and consider offering a regular menu alongside prix fixe options. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not return.

I got mine with mac and cheese and he got his with corn bread. We liked both sides. My toddler especially liked the mac and cheese. Good beer selection as well. Pretty small inside so we sat outside. We were with another family and unfortunately they have signs to not move any chairs and tables, so we were not able to sit together as all the tables on the patio were set for two.

Compared to other steakhouse like Ruth's Chris or Morton's, you will get good value as everything is very reasonable priced. Our ribeyes were cooked perfect and seasoned well. The red wine braised mushrooms were a nice addition and I highly recommend their Cowboy Crispy Potatoes which are amazing. Their poblano sauce is great on them. This is a good place to go if you're looking for a nice steak at a fair price that won't suck your wallet dry.

Comes with a little side of barbecue sauce which is really good, but truthfully I don't need it, they were so tasty on their own. I will definitely try them again down the road. But the ribeye steak. Wow wow wow. My wife got the chimichurri with it, and I am telling you this is one of the best steaks you will ever have. It is so flavorful and so soft. It is truly amazing. Although I am not a steak guy per se, this is one of the places I will definitely order a steak and enjoy it. I was truly amazed. Great service, great ambience, great experience all around.

We sent it back and got "oh sorry someone new made them-big fail" and laughing. The brûlée was not even close to being set so it was pure liquid. It wasn't even a consistent temperature. After years of loving eating at Js and celebrating milestones here it makes me sad to see how quality is slipping.

This go to dish reminds me of the crispy crunchy fried chicken my mom would make, on all days, Sunday. Along with mashed potatoes and gravy. The plate comes with corn and cole slaw, but not a fan of slaw in general I opt for extra taters and gravy. Service is always great and friendly. Depending on your visit, if you come during an event in town, you should make reservations. Rio is that popular. But tonight, on a quiet Thursday night before the crowd arrives this weekend, two of us had no problems walking in and being seated immediately. Rio does offer some delicious looking tacos, enchiladas and burritos. As well as salads and some hot sandwiches. Rio also offers 12 different margaritas flavors to accompany your Mexican cuisine, as well as a full bar. They have their own parking lot. In VC that's gold. And there's limited street parking.

Anyway the tables were kept clean, the ice tea, water, lemonade never went dry. Refills were plentiful. The condiments on the tables were clean. The bathrooms were clean. This straight forward home style cooking serves breakfast and lunch five days a week until 3 pm. Breakfast portions are substantial. Fluffy airy pancakes that require no syrup. Biscuits and brown sausage gravy bigger than a lumberjack's fist. And if you require a little adult beverage- there's several options for mimosas. Including a flight if you can't decide. And house made Bloody Mary mix that creates a drink that looks like a meal, but I was assured it was just an appetizer. If you slept in or weren't quite feeling like breakfast, there's a great variety of hearty sandwiches. My go to is the BLTA on your choice of bread. Fries are good, but I highly recommend the tater tots- they are tossed in crack, so you just can't stop. And don't ask me to share. The French dip was piled high with thinly sliced roast beef on a fresh hoagie bun. There's a great small patio out front, large dining room to the right or the quaint cafe like area you walk into. We think there may have been some recent movements by the owners, and for the purposes of this review, I'll go with this Yelp entry the matches the pictures to what we experienced. Today was a quiet post-New Years day and Gayle wanted to dine someplace besides the Red Dog Saloon (our "usual"). The Canvas Cafe (or whatever it's called now) was just a block or so down C street and open. The dining room was small, cute, inviting, and warm. It was also a "one man show" today as one guy was working both the kitchen and the dining room (and very well). I especially appreciate a really busy guy who maintained a relatively high service level, with a smile and a generous side of patience. We all ordered sandwiches, including French Dip for Gayle, Smash Burger for Darling Granddaughter, and a grilled Chicken Pesto for me. Everything was delicious, with my only regret being that I should have ordered the impressive side salad that Gayle chose. A small bag of chips really didn't do the sandwich justice. I would have also preferred a beer, but there was no alcohol served today, and my bottomless glass of lemonade was more than just fine. Gayle and I agreed that we'd love to come back in whatever main place or annex. It's a fair drive back to Genoa from VC, and we were happy to head down the hill full and happy.

My daughter got a omelette with juice. The servers were so friendly as most are in this little quaint town. There are so many things to look at and the chalk table was a fun way to pass time together. I will be back for lunch!!
