    Calamari Parmesan
    David M.

Amazing find in Northern Nevada! I was absolutely blown away by the quality of food and the amount of food I received here. Despite being more of an upscale restaurant, they were very accommodating for someone who did not have a reservation. They were able to find me a table easily, no wait needed. Everyone was kind and attentive during my time there. I ordered the calamari Parmesan, not knowing how it would taste. The mix between a chicken Parmesan-sort of flavor and the chewiness and texture of calamari really blend well together with this dish. I found myself really loving everything about it. On top of that, the portion size was incredibly large. I never have leftovers, but here, I had a bit of the dish left to take home and enjoy for the next day. Parking might be a little hard to come by, so I would prepare to street park if their lot is full.

I have been here twice. Once for a friends birthday and then my boyfriend brought me back for my birthday. Both experiences were great! I love the romantic and intimate ambiance, the food bursts with flavor, and they have a pretty decent wine selection! The lobster ravioli special and filet mignon are to die for. The scallops, brussell sprouts, and meatballs are a must have appetizer. We will be back for more special occasions!

Everything about this place was so warm and welcoming and also very charming. Definitely as local as it gets and the food was absolutely amazing. The staff is very attentive and friendly, especially my waitress who I met along my journey. What a wonderful place and I'm definitely going to try to make it back there again if I'm in the area.

First time visiting this quaint bistro. I enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts and pizza the most. The bar tender was kind and attentive. I ordered a margarita on the rocks. Good portion size didn't get a picture. Definitely will be back to venture through the regular menu and drinks they have to offer. Looked like inside outside seating and individual booths were available.

If I could give 10 stars I would. We have been in Northern Nevada for 3 years. Made a reservation, got there 10 minutes early and were immediately seated by the very friendly hostess. Then Chris was our amazing server. Can't even tell you how spectacular the food was. From appetizer to dessert EVERYTHING was stellar. This will definitely be our date night favorite. I am a very tough critic and this place wins!!!!

We think there may have been some recent movements by the owners, and for the purposes of this review, I'll go with this Yelp entry the matches the pictures to what we experienced. Today was a quiet post-New Years day and Gayle wanted to dine someplace besides the Red Dog Saloon (our "usual"). The Canvas Cafe (or whatever it's called now) was just a block or so down C street and open. The dining room was small, cute, inviting, and warm. It was also a "one man show" today as one guy was working both the kitchen and the dining room (and very well). I especially appreciate a really busy guy who maintained a relatively high service level, with a smile and a generous side of patience. We all ordered sandwiches, including French Dip for Gayle, Smash Burger for Darling Granddaughter, and a grilled Chicken Pesto for me. Everything was delicious, with my only regret being that I should have ordered the impressive side salad that Gayle chose. A small bag of chips really didn't do the sandwich justice. I would have also preferred a beer, but there was no alcohol served today, and my bottomless glass of lemonade was more than just fine. Gayle and I agreed that we'd love to come back in whatever main place or annex. It's a fair drive back to Genoa from VC, and we were happy to head down the hill full and happy.

We dined here on Saturday, April 12th 2025, and we can't wait to return. Our waitress, Brooke, was simply awesome, attentive and so friendly. The bartender, TJ, made us a delicious Bloody Maria ( a bloody Mary, but made with tequila), and an Irish Coffee to start us off. The menu was large and adventurous, and we noticed the prices were VERY reasonable, more reasonable than Reno restaurants. The chef, Orson, prepared our Tri Tip Entrées with an outstanding blend of skill and flavors. The Tri Tip was tender, plentiful, the best we've had in a long, long time. To put an exclamation point on this wonderful dining experience, we chose the warm bread pudding from the dessert menu, and it was SO delicious. The chef and this kitchen are truly First Class. The restaurant is clean, inviting and has a true charm. It and the Gold Hill Hotel are a worthy ambassador of the old world magic that is Virginia City.

The lobster bisque was bland and only served lukewarm. To top it off, the dessert we were looking forward to most -- the chocolate Bundt cake -- was unavailable. Overall, a mixed experience compared to our previous visit.

I want to mention that one of the staff members that was wiping tables and setting out condiments was very nice but at the bar for some reason I was invisible. Side note: I was reluctant to visit Virginia city because of recent events that happened there to another person of my skin tone. I try to give places a benefit of a doubt and not judge a whole place from one incident. I can say not feeling welcome does contribute to my concern as a mother and a person of color. I want to caution others to make your own judgements but please stay safe. If you dont feel welcome please do not cause a scene the best you can do is not use your money at places like this one and write a review. Eventually people will see the truth and hopefully the establishment and associates will reevaluate how they choose to do business. Just my suggestion. Take care and stay safe
