The Dayton Taphouse has recently sold and is under new ownership. The restaurant has continued to stay clean and the seating options have not changed. There is a new staff and we have noticed a slight decrease in the attentiveness and friendliness with this staff. Today I ordered water (they were out of Dragon's Milk beer) and a French Dip sandwich (no onions). The sandwich was delicious. The meat was tender and well seasoned. The cheese was perfectly melted. The toasted yet fluffy bread complemented the sandwich perfectly as did the rich, umami au jus. I am glad that under new ownership the food quality has not gone down and I look forward to my next meal at The Dayton Taphouse. read more

I am working in the Fernley area and met friends here today I haven't seen in over 20 years. It was imperative that I say how amazing the food and service was today. Friends had some BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, and I tried the Italian Sausage sandwich. We all raved at how great our meals were. This was my first visit to this place, and if I was local, they would definitely get more of my business. I loved the inside seating and ambiance of the Dayton Taphouse. Mix between rustic and modern. I appreciate finding local Spots like this that excel at what they do. My friend was given a recommendation to come here, and we were all happy with the choice. Super food and service! We were the only ones in the place for a while which let us chat with the owner Chris and our waitress, Sydney. Chris had GREAT stories about the bar and area. The chef had just made some tomato bisque for Chris to try and we also got a taste.....the best I'd ever had, even better than mine! It was our first time at the Dayton Tap House. Our family loved the charm of eating at Dayton's oldest Saloon. It was originally built in 1840 but rebuilt after a fire. I ordered the flautas and the burger. It was a hit. Next time I would be curious to try their dessert. I felt like a local visiting this restaurant. I was visiting my sister in Dayton and she took me to lunch at the Taphouse. What a great place! I love the building! Chris seated us and gave us an amazing history lesson regarding the building, so interesting! I had the caprese BLT and it was delicious! The fries were fresh and hot! Came here on a spontaneous visit to Dayton just cause I've never been there. Super casual taphouse where it seemed like locals all knew each other. The food took a while to come but I was ok waiting in the cozy restaurant. They didn't have vegetarian burgers when we went due to some shipping issues. The waiter said he could ask the chef to cook me up a vegetarian mushroom burger and charge me 75% of the cheapest burger they had. Honestly the burger wasn't bad but it was also just sauteed mushrooms instead of the patty. When it came time to pay, he couldn't find our check and then just put in a random burger for mine after he repeated something along the lines of "Oh right you had the custom burger." He then just told me a total and I didn't see what he charged me for until after he printed the receipt. I'd come back again but I'm docking stars for the slow food and then the switcharoo when it came time to pay. read more

Visit The Dayton Taphouse last week. I ordered a beer, that none of the servers or owner could pronounce. The owner, Chris I believe is his name, got all giddy. Starts telling me a story about someone ordering a beer then didn't want it. Then gave me a beer he had on ice that was poured, I don't know, hours before.... Served this beer to me the spun the glass on the bar. #1) don't keep beer on ice hoping your next customer will order it. #2) Don't spin a beer or food in front of a customer #3) if you have an extra beer, don't charge your customer full price for it. I've tried to support this place for years, but I am done. This was the most disrespectful time I have ever had at any establishment. My mistake, I should have said something... but I WILL NOT BE BACK! Oh, he's trying to start a steakhouse, buyer beware. His best chef is gone, I wouldn't order carrot sticks here. read more

Went back to try again since I heard there was a new chef! For starters all we wanted was a to-go order. We wanted 2 orders of nachos, one with chicken and one with tri-tip and one order of jalapeño poppers. When ordering he kept mentioning cheese fries ... and we had to correct him 3 times of what we wanted. There was only one other customer and it took about 25-30 minutes to get everything. We checked our food once we got home to find out that we got one order of tri-tip cheese fries (was supposed to be nachos) and one nachos with just cheese and no chicken ): Jalapeño poppers were good. We were just passing through and decided to stop in Dayton for lunch. On the outside, this place is very inviting, but once inside it felt even more welcoming. The service was outstanding and both the owner and new Manager/Chef came to say hello. We ordered the Short Rib Flautas, Blue Burger and the Apple Cobbler. Everything was very tasty. What a great spot to stop for a meal! Came for a late lunch and were met at the door by the friendly owner Chris. He gave us a rundown of the daily specials and we opted for the Hawaiian burgers with fries. It was all made from scratch and generous portions! My husband wanted an Arnold Palmer and Chris concocted one for him himself. The restaurant is located in a historic building with lots of interesting things to look at. The owner greeted us upon entry and then introduced us to his "bartender"/waitress. She didn't have a total grasp on the ordering system and when she asked him for help he was too preoccupied to be pulled away from the golf tournament on tv. Food took entirely too long to be brought out, the chicken wings I ordered were atrocious, fried way too long and tougher than jerky plus they were really small. My wife's order was incorrect, and when confronted there was no solution to remedy the situation. Lastly the price of everything is a bit extreme. I had two beers that were $9 a piece, not too bad but to charge us $9 for a shot that my wife had, no thanks. And the wings I had were $36 for 24 wings, $1.50/wing, not bad but to be the wings off a quail, no thanks. So many improvements needed, there is always a staffing issue. The business is ran in a manner that you can tell is paycheck to paycheck. The food is alright but you can wait hours to get it. I sat down with my four year old to grab dinner one night we sat at 6:50pm ordered around 7:15pm and we got our food around 9:30pm. This was very hard with a family and the owner just kept explaining over and over again how quality takes time. We were here for almost 4 hours with 2 other tables in the restaurant. read more

Stopped in for a drink and to get my highway 50 passport stamped (they have the sign in the window) but after looking for their stamp decided they were too busy to care and suddenly started saying "I don't know what that is". The food was great! Prices are cheap given that the food quality is impressive for this small town!! (Would compete in a big town too) I ordered the chili cheese burger with fries and I was pleased! The chili is made in house and tastes fresh and the portion on the burger is Just enough where it's not too messy. The ranch is also made in house and is AMAZING. The fries that come with the burger (other side options available) are salty and delicious. The service was above and beyond. Christina served us (table of 2) and was super sweet and accommodating. She was personable and easy to talk to which made for a memorable experience as am visiting from out of state. She even went out of her way to take pictures of my grand-mother and I. The vibe was great. I felt safe and welcomed. It has been preserved well, and still has an old town saloon feel with a functional bar. My brother, whom is new to the area, turned us on to this place, and I am sorry it took so long for us to get there! The owner is very friendly and talkative, and the staff is great, too. After my first bite of their Wild West Cheeseburger, I wondered why the place wasn't filled with people, but it didn't take long for that to happen! Unfortunately, this was a huge disappointment. The food used to take time, but was always delicious. They have lost their Italian cook and changed the menu. We ended up here by accident as J's Bistro was full. So disappointed- food was mediocre at best. Steaks were sent back three times and still not seasoned or cooked properly. Shishkebob was not seasoned and overcooked as well. Alfredo sauce on pasta was a tasteless bowl of broken butter and cream. Complained to Chris, the owner, who got very defensive and claimed he had just hired two "world renowned" chefs from the Bay Area and one would come to talk with us.
