I have been wanting to come here for over two years however they have some very odd hours posted for when they are open. However I was lucky enough to be able to visit them while having brunch at the next-door restaurant for which they share a space and I believe are owned by the same company. Do not be fooled by what is shown out on the counter as that is only there for show and selection. The actual donuts are below and or behind away from peoples breathing liquids coming out of their mouth and also from touching. The donuts are very creative and very tasty. They are a little bit pricey but that is to be expected for the area and considering that competition in this area is stiff for these types of donuts. Me thinks this is my favorite donut place now... Yowzers it's good! The perfect donut. The yeast donut is chewy, fluffy, and delicious. I had the chocolate yeast with strawberry filling (it had real strawberries in the filling!). It looked adorable with little pink decorative crunch balls sprinkled on top. High quality donut top of my donut list folks! I also had their coffee and a grinder "Triple P" as well. I liked the meats for the Triple P, it had prosciutto, pork shoulder and thick cut bacon with a nice thick slice of provolone, herb aioli, arugula, tomato and roasted red pepper (yum!). The meats worked well together, but thought the focaccia bread didn't hold up too well to the sauce and the flavor of the bread was a tad overwhelming to the sandwich components. I would have preferred a sturdier bread like maybe a ciabatta. Don't take me wrong, the focaccia was tasty and aromatic, but perhaps it's just my preference. The Triple P was a serious sandwich - it was huge and I was full on half of it and saved the other half for a snack. I'll definitely be back when I'm going down Central Street again. I was the first to review Db3 oh so many years ago, so I'm far overdue for an update! After all, I've probably been here a few dozen times (or more. I intentionally am not counting). Just a quick update -- a dear friend of mine had her first baby earlier this week just up the road at the Evanston hospital. She and the baby are doing well but are still there, and with COVID visitors can't exactly come in to visit, and a lot of her friends and family aren't in town or live in farther suburbs. I wanted to bring her something, though, and she said that the front desk will bring things up. I immediately thought of Db3. I picked up 3 donuts for her this morning to drop off at the hospital (and not gonna lie, I got one for myself since yesterday was my birthday haha). The one I had was delicious, and she texted me and said she loved the ones I got her. Also, special shout out to their social media team. Last night I DM'd them on Instagram at about 9pm to ask about whether their donuts are nut-friendly (her husband has an allergy), and they responded within minutes, even though it was way after business hours. Oh my GOSH this place is so good! They have basic donuts as well as more fun/crazy flavors. We got 5 basic and the Raised Glazed was the best (front middle). The others were fine but RG took star of the show for sure. We also got empanadas from a nearby Mexican restaurant and omg the feta/spinach/potato was the best empanada I've ever had. Chocolate ganache donut was average and with the limited hours, this wasn't worth the trip from downtown. We saw it when we went to Hewn down the block, but Db3 was never open despite going at various times. Finally we were able to coordinate it to make the two stops. For V-Day, I had decided I was going to surprise my boyfriend with a scavenger hunt leading to DB3 with a custom donut message. He LOVES donuts. I had been communicating with Amanda a few weeks prior to arrange the message, design, flavor, pick up details, and payment. It's $3 per letter/character and some change for special toppings. On the week of, I submitted payment. I had a little trouble getting through due to me waiting till the weekend of to pay (she had warned me it was going to be busy and she was right). I had to change the details slightly due to me getting my boyfriend's schedule wrong, but they were super accommodating. While I didn't try the donuts myself, I was super impressed with how well organized they were. He told me when he got there, there was a line out the door and a table with pre-orders. He thought he would find his order there, but didn't. A DB3 worker offered him help, but they were still unable to locate his order. Today's trip to Evanston was made extra special with a planned stop to Db3 to pick up *just* two (ha) Dude donuts for our kiddos. Let's just say, I was never so happy when my hubby ordered up a blueberry donut for himself. I figured, okay, I'll get a maple sugar one then. At the register we were just about to pay, and I decided we should get two more donuts for the kids...just in case. We also added two jelly donuts to our order. The second we got in the car, we tore open the box and went for the blueberry donut. It was heavenly! Aside from it being the most beautiful blueberry donut I've ever seen, with that natural purple color in the glaze, it was outstanding. It was ever-so-lightly crispy on the outside with a dense and moist inside. There was a hint of real blueberry in it for that truly extra magic. Once home, I convinced my boys to share their Dude donut with me. Just a little bite, I swear. They couldn't get to the jelly donuts, and I'm secretly hoping they forget about them tonight so I can have one. The jelly donut was packed so full of jelly, that when I picked it up, it was heavy! It is a huge sandwich with shaved pork, prosciutto and bacon, with lettuce, tomato and herbed aioli on focaccia. My, oh, my. Was feeling pretty darn lucky to have been treated by Yelp to a grinder, donut, and coffee. Really feel like I hit the lucky jackpot when I actually tasted my spoils! First, though, let me tell you of the generosity of Db3 to provide this opportunity to Yelp elites- it will not be forgotten. I can tell you that they tried to have things organized with beneficiaries pre ordering and their orders ready, labeled by name, and waiting for them- placed on a table for pick up. Can't say that that went smoothly, however, employees remained calm and carried on with kindness- very admirable. Now to the taste- I had several vegetarian grinder options which is of tantamount importance to me. My eggplant/artichoke/mozzarella grinder was A1! Stacked in a wonderful focaccia fully loaded. The taste of the focaccia was enhanced by the flavor of the vinaigrette. Suffice it to say it was satisfying beyond. It was accompanied by a fresh and crunchy pickle spear, an unexpected and welcome addition. Hubby picked up a bunch of donuts right after picking up lunch in Evanston. Although DV3 was closing soon the donuts still tasted like they were freshly made. Worst customer service I have ever received. I placed a custom order online a week and a half before the pick up date and it said they would call me back in a couple days to confirm. They never ended up calling me back so I called them and they confirmed the order and they were like yeah your good your orders confirmed. Then I called them on Thursday and Friday and they never answered so I was like oh that's weird. Then Saturday morning the day I have to pick up the donuts I call them and they tell me that my order never existed, they have no record of it, cause I spoke to their manager who was out of town that week yet there is an email confirmation from them and phone call records. So I'm pissed cause like it's an hour before my sisters party(turning 8) and their gaslighting me into saying that I never placed the order and implied I shouldn't have placed it with the manager. Like half an hour later they called back offering some old donuts but I already drove down to Dunkin at that point. Great visit to Db3, which advertises "small batch" donuts and is only open on weekends, on a sunny Saturday. There was a lot of excitement because the football game was starting, and the sidewalks on the way to Ryan Field were buzzing. Fortunately, the donut shop wasn't too crowded and we were able to pick out our treats and get some iced coffee quickly. There's a nice array of simple glazed cake donuts and more artisan flavors with added toppings. No powdered sugar or crullers--this ain't Dunkin Donuts. The most intriguing was The Dude Goo, which had what looked like maple frosting on it topped by two strips of bacon. The chocolate ganache looked like a delicious cavity waiting to happen with a heavy blanket of chocolate ganache on top of a chocolate donut. My friend got the Boston cream filled donut--she praised its good, rich chocolate topping and yummy cream filling, but because it was so top heavy, the cream started leaking out and the bottom part collapsed when biting into it. Bring in the Northwestern engineers to shore up the structure! Speaking of Northwestern, I had the school spirit-themed Wild Kit Kat, which is a vanilla-cake donut with chocolate frosting sprinkled with chopped up KitKat bars on top. It was really good. Cake was a little spongier than I'm used to, but very tasty. Only criticism is that the KitKat pieces tasted stale like they had been cut up and sitting around. That could just be what happens when the wafers are exposed to air for more than a few minutes, but they didn't deliver the same crunch as a fresh KitKat bar. Service was prompt, but the tables had remnants of previous customers' donuts across them, so a wipe down would have been appreciated. Maybe they sort their trash, but I didn't see a recycling option by the bins for the plastic coffee cups, lids and plastic to-go containers. If your looking to upgrade your donut experience, try a fancy donut at DB3. You can purchase donuts (regular or fancy) from their short order menu. At $2.75 a fancy, get your money's worth and try a Coffee toffee (my personal fave) or a maple bacon. Their modern dining space is big enough to hold about 25 inside. With that amount of seating, there's a good chance to find a spot and enjoy a donut and some hot coffee on those chilly fall days. I have only a few criticisms with this shop. One of them is they only open on weekends from 9-2pm. Too bad. I'm sure they'd benefit from gaining more business by remaining open through the week; even if it means opening only during peak hours. Also, their full menu isin't listed on their website. I see pictures of some great looking donuts with no description of what's what. At first I was a little skeptical that donuts could be so tasty up in Evanston. But I was passing through the area so I decided to give db3 a try. Some of the special flavors seemed too over the top for my taste - the Dude Goo for example, a maple cinnamon donut topped with a thick layer of maple icing and bacon did not appeal to me at all. But I got the basic maple cinnamon donut and it was a heavenly fluffy donut, with a crunchy exterior from the sugar. I love that they change up the donut menu every month. They have some amazing crazy donuts. But also their standbys are top notch for when you aren't feeling quite as adventurous. My favorites are the dude abides and the basic sugar donut. read more

I came here for the first time and tried their seasonal fancy donuts, the pumpkin cheesecake filled, caramel apple filled, apple fritter, and Boston cream. I found the dough of all the donuts to be incredibly soft and fluffy. The caramel apple filled was my favorite as the apple filling tasted great and the caramel icing on top was subtle and complemented the apple perfectly. The pumpkin cheesecake was my least favorite as I didn't enjoy the taste of the filling but again the dough was great to eat. The apple fitter was also fairly good with generous icing on top and a nice crunch on the outside. I definitely want to come back and try some of their basic donuts. read more
