They do go by pronouns here, it's on their name tag. We all love that. Owners are there, you will get to see them bc they are fanatic. I just visited Smack Dab and I have to tell somebody about it. Y'all! First of all, they have so many great options for all the difficult people like me with dietary restrictions that don't make sense - gluten free vegetarian. I was still able to enjoy an amazing super filling breakfast sandwich with vegan sausage which is unheard of in most places. They are doing the good work. Secondly, they serve cafe du monde, which has its own distinct flavor but it is one I happen to LOVE! I had the Marie Louise and it was delicious! The gallery wall had me hooked and the staff were all so kind as I made my choices. And, the most touching thing is that when a man, who was clearly suffering from some challenges came in, they did not hesitate to feed him. My heart... there's still good people out here... What a gem! I have celiac (gluten free) and they had a ton of gf options! I got the strip mall bowl and an iced matcha and it was so filling I had to take leftovers! Got breakfast here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am. Definitely kid friendly, and the staff are super sweet. We got our food quickly, and it came out as it was made which is always a benefits when you have kids. The place is cute, LGBTQIA friendly, pro-Palestine, incredible. The food... very good, but I think I liked the vibe more. I got the breakfast burrito with smoked bacon, I think I wanted less egg more burrito ingredients like beans, salsa, something along those lines. It was more of a breakfast wrap. The iced latte here is my favorite in Chicago. I wish it came in a bigger size. The egg sandwiches are yummy, I prefer mine with just the egg and chive mayo on a biscuit. Some of the sandos they have are doing too much, for example the vegetarian egg sando. Weekday combo is a good price, everything else is really expensive. Tucked away into a nondescript strip mall along N Clark is my new favorite cafe. Smack Dab is a local joint with a lot of character. And most importantly, their food is fantastic! I got the special of the day: the Latke Bagel Sammie, a bagel sandwich stuffed with a housemade latke, fried egg, sour cream, pickled onion, cucumber and smoked salmon. Lots of flavor in a packed breakfast sandwich! I also got to sample the biscuits and gravy bowl. Yummy! Most importantly, I got a cup of Cafe du Monde coffee (my favorite!) and got a few fresh scratch donuts to go. What a meal! This place is legit. I love to see local places like this, cooking fresh and serving it up. And based on the regular flow of customers, they're doing it right. Can't wait to visit again. Free parking and free wifi + a lot of seating make this a great place to eat and get some work done. I ordered a bestest seller and a gold latte for breakfast. The food came out relatively quick. The sandwich was okay. I think it would be better with a sunny side up egg. I also think the biscuit makes it a very heavy breakfast sandwich, so I only ate one half of the biscuit. I had my daughter with me so she ordered the mini donuts and a side of bacon. These donuts are on the small side and run nearly $3, but they are made in house. I have been visiting off and on for over 4 years now and took it for granted that I must've left a glowing review ages ago. I love the ambiance: cozy and clean, relaxing and trendy. The interior has grown over the years to allow for more seating (proving how popular it is with us locals), including the lovely outdoor patio. The food is excellent: I think the size actually increased. I appreciate the multiple options for different dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose intolerance, etc.), but also, it's just gourmet and *delicious.* And, the menu changes seasonally, which is fun. The March Special Corned Beef Sandwich was DREAMY and I love the seasonally inspired cake donuts and baked goods. (Shout out to my past go-to's, the Quiches with side salad and I Bee-lieve her Lattes, which sadly are no longer on the menu. ) Smack Dab are great people: They have an email newsletter, offer multiple coupons and deals, rewards points, does Pizza nights (or used to do these, at least?), and charitably FEEDS THE COMMUNITY. Finally came to Smack Dab after a 5k race at Warren Park. There were a lot of choices offered and we both chose dishes off of the special menu that was on the screens - my partner got a shakshuka sandwich and I got a seasonal spicy peach (or other stone fruit) sandwich. I think what held back my sandwich was the egg - it was thick but not seasoned well. Because it was our first time there they offered us a free donut which was such a nice touch. Service was fast but as we were finishing up around 11am a line was forming out the door. I liked what I got, but it wasn't the best breakfast sandwich I'd ever had with all the hype the place got. Thanks to the Andersonville newsletter, I found out that Smack Dab makes stigmata cookies for Easter. I mean, I love a little bit of sacrilege, so you know I had to pick some up. I ordered ahead and picked up today, and they were pretty good. They're a combo of cocoa-flavored sandwich cookies (because, as the restaurant says, Jesus was brown) and raspberry jam for the blood. If the jam isn't homemade, it's high quality and it was very good. The cocoa and jam combo was really tasty. The restaurant appears to be super small, though they have some seating outside as well. The only frustrating part of my visit was that there were only two women in front of me who apparently have a decision-making disorder and took at least five minutes to chat and figure out their order, but never got out of the way for others nor did the person at the till gently suggest they step aside whilst they were figuring out how to decide from the fairly easy menu what to have. They do have an order system there where you can place your own order, though, so had I been there to order and go it would have been pretty smooth, I think. The breakfast sandwiches look good but the parking was pretty frustrating so I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I'd like to give something besides the pastries a try. read more

Delicious biscuits! I has the "bestest" sandwich and it was very tasty. I also got a side of grits which wasn't needed to be full, but I wanted to try them and they didn't disappoint. I also tried the sweater weather latte and that was the perfect combination of flavor and coffee. The service was amazing! Mobile ordered a latté & giardinera cream cheese bagel for pickup - opted to leave a tip. Arrived 30 minutes later and my order seemingly was not ready. The owner checked in with other customers, then I. At that point the owner confirmed someone snagged my order, then sincerely apologized, cracked a joke, then put in a new order. There I sat patiently as others received their delayed orders. I listened as others were offered a free donut for the wait, or simply for being a new customer. Sixteen minutes later, my order came and on my way I went - no donut for the delay, no comps for the inconvenience. Find the best breakfast place in all Chicago. It's smack dab in the neighborhood of Rogers Park. Smack Dab is a popular spot judging by the long ass lines and waiting. Calling ahead for pickup is a good idea if you don't mind taking it to go. The prices are high on a few things but not that bad honestly. A lot come here at breakfast. It's not strictly a breakfast restaurant because they're also open for lunch. They close after lunch though. Best stuff is on the breakfast menu. This is one of the rare restaurants that has plenty of vegan breakfast options. Last time we got a few vegan donuts. They gave us these for free because of the long wait. How nice. Of these, we most liked the one with the chocolate frosting, good shit. I had the Vegan Bestest Seller Plate for the main course. It's about $15, which is a lot but oh well fuck it. This is a breakfast sandwich featuring a grilled slab of tofu plus vegan cheese and sausage. Better than anything at McDonald's. The price sucks but that's all the bad I can say.
