This was what the stall looks like.

This place is located in Union Market, in a corner stall. I had the cinnamon streusel doughnut. It was delightful! It was light and had a good, but not too overpowering flavor, and it was overly sweet. It tasted like a real doughnut made with good ingredients. The price point of the doughnuts reflects the quality of the ingredients. The owner is very nice and happy to explain the various flavors if you asked. He was very helpful! He told me that if you want the popular flavors, try to get there before 1pm because they sell out, as you can see in one of the photos. Enjoy your life and treat yourself to a Handcraft Doughnut!

I really wanted to love these donuts - they're so pretty, and the woman who helped me was great - but unfortunately, they were very dry. They definitely taste better warmed up, but I don't like when they're dry right from pickup.

Delicious! I've always passed the spot but never tried it. They've always looked so good! Today I needed something sweet to eat and stopped by. She had some really interesting flavors I wanted to try but ran out. That's okay, I'll be back, especially for that strawberry chai. Today I got the huckleberry cake and blueberry basil. Both were really good but I loved the base on the huckleberry more, I like the denseness of it. I'm excited to come back and try more!

This is in the food hall portion of union market. My first thought looking at it is wow that's kind of a lot for a doughnut. But then I actually looked at the donuts and said oh I'll get half a dozen. This actually ended up being seven as apparently one of them came out on the smaller side so they offered me an extra. Having gotten them to share with others, they all ended up disappearing quickly, and I only got a little taste of the passionfruit one myself, which did deliver on flavor. It was a splendid looking spread, and the flavor choices were distinctive. Their website states that they are considering doing options for special dietary needs, but at the moment this is not the place for that. Perhaps they will expand into their own store.

Yummy donuts inside Union Market! They're not cheap but they're tasty and so worth it! There was a line here and I can see why! It's just that good. It was really hard to pick but I went with the brown butter maple and OMG, I want one (or two) like today. I always say I'm not huge on sweets, but this place is going to make me return soon. The service was top notch! Thank you!!

While out enjoying some beautiful weather in Union market, I noticed that the people next to me were eating donuts. As a self certified donut connoisseur, Sommelier, aficionado, I had to ask where they had purchased them. I also had some friends with me so this was a great opportunity to Induct them in to membership. We chose four donuts. The Matcha berry, the chocolate, the glazed, and the strawberry. The Matcha berry was our absolute favorite. The Matcha was not overly sweet, but gave a nice creamy experience and the very inside was fresh and a beautiful accompaniment to the Matcha. The chocolate is definitely a dark chocolate so it's a bit bitter. If you're looking for a sweet chocolate experience, this is not the donut for you. The glaze we rated a three on a scale of one to five. The inside was a bit dry and didn't have a great chewy mouth, Deal. The glaze was not overly sweet, which we lied. The other one with strawberry also got a 3.5 because we did enjoy the chewing us and the fresh berry experience. Overall, the donuts were good and when I'm back in the area, I will definitely get the Matcha again.

Brought 6 donuts to a party and they were the most popular item there hands down. I was elated to discover they've an earl grey flavor donut and loved all the different flavors we bought. Will definitely come back again for future to try out other flavors.

This donut was everything I wanted and more. Look at it, it's perfect. So light and fluffy, every nook and cranny covered in glaze. There was also cheesecake filling beneath those perfectly juicy blueberries. Do you see the lemon zest and rosemary flecks? Like c'mon, no wonder they are called handcraft donuts. I don't even care that this donut was over $7 - it was big and made my day so much better. Please stay in Union market or open a storefront!

Handcraft Doughnuts at Union Market is always tempting -- but bring your wallet. I grabbed a half dozen and, while good, they didn't quite wow me. At about $5 each, I expected more decadence. Some were a little dry, and I miss the richer fillings they used to offer. Overall taste? A 7.5/10. Still a solid spot if you get there early (they often sell out by the afternoon), but at these prices, I may pass next time

I absolutely LOVE these doughnuts! They're not too doughy! They're light and the perfect amount of sweat! ALLLLLLL the flavors, EVERY SINGLE FLAVOR IS delicious! It's genuinely difficult to choose and not get all of them every time! Everyone that works here is amazingly kind and they're always smiling. Always positive vibes and good eats! It's currently 1am & I want some right now LOL!!!

Got the yuzu ganache and I actually could taste the citrus. Loved the variety of flavors, they all looked so good. The donut dough itself was a little cakes for me but I still enjoyed it.

Service is great the individual shared suggestions based on her actively engaging in conversation with me to figure out my preference. But the actual donut was dry and lacked sweetness. Got the banana cream donut 5/10 too dry not enough filling

if you like salty donuts or lemon bread, this is the place. I ordered cookie n cream thinking it was sweet but it salty. I tried glazed one as well but it tastes lemon which i'm not big fan of. other donut looked good tho.

Best of all, there are mini donuts that are 1/2 of the size of the regular donuts (they have both!). The Classic flavors, mostly cake donuts are in the back while the seasonal yeast donuts and specialty pastries (croissant donut hybrids) are in the display case in the front. The issue is that while the donuts in the front are neatly labeled, the labels are teeny-tiny for the donuts in the back and impossible to read. I wish the labels were larger and there was a large menu for the full list of donuts (instead of the small chalkboard for just seasonal donuts). The super fluffy and moist cake Cider Cake Glazed hit the spot! Even though I prefer warm cider cake donuts, I didn't mind that it was room temperature. I couldn't resist the temptation to save the donut for the kids and noshed on the full donut not even leaving a crumb to spare! Nom nom nom. The seasonal (Sept & March) Brown Sugar Bourbon donut was fun to try. It was topped with delicious maple cinnamon frosting with a custard filling. While I couldn't taste the Bourbon flavor, the donut was tasty. The Mocha Donut filled with Mocha buttercream hit the spot! The seasonal (March) Matcha Latte cake Donut was divine! The seasonal (Oct) Caramel Apple Crumble Donut hit the spot with a maple salted caramel frosting and apple pie filling. I wasn't a fan of the Salted Caramel Cider or the Chocolate Cake donuts. They were a bit dry and after a couple of bites, I threw in the towel on both donuts. I also didn't like the Hazelnut cream donut (not a Nutella or ganache frosting that I expected). The Matcha donut filled with strawberry cream (April special) wasn't that good, the cream was way too sweet. Will come back for the Glazed Cider and seasonal donuts!

I made a same-day reservation on Open Table and was seated immediately. I ordered the scratch soda in guava, as that was the current seasonal flavor. It was delicious!! I'm not sure how homemade soda tastes better than normal soda, but I thoroughly enjoyed the drink especially with the flavoring. I ordered the goat cheese burger that comes with balsamic onion, lemon aioli, and fries on the side. I know goat cheese can be pungent and not palatable to all, but I've had it in burgers before and loved it so I thought I'd try Founding Farmers' rendition. I was actually not a fan. I knew I don't like onions and asked for the balsamic onions on the side, but I think I was most turned off by the lemon aioli layered with finely cut lettuce. I usually don't think I'm a nit-picky person, but I think the aioli made the lettuce soggier. I overall didn't love this burger's composition. Aside from this, the patty was juicy and tasted good with the goat cheese which was the main objective of the burger anyway. All in all, I think Founding Farmers is still a worthwhile restaurant to check out while in DC, but I won't order this particular dish again.

The salt levels were unbalanced in my juicy Lucy burger, the cornbread was lacking any sweet, the falafel burger was too think and had a dry patty, my Paloma needed fresher grapefruit that hadn't been soaking in simple syrup, my friend found her gnocchi heavy and lacking herbaceousness and acid. Not one dish clearly succeeded, except bizarrely the cinnamon sugar bacon lollis. The wait staff is relaxed and attentive, while the vibe inside is of hungry diners having (just) a good time.

We arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday without a reservation. After reading several reviews beforehand, I saw multiple people mention that reservations really were not necessary because brunch is usually not very busy. They were absolutely right. There was only one other party in the restaurant when we walked in, and they were leaving as we were being seated. If you are looking for a last minute brunch spot, this is definitely one where you can probably walk right in. The restaurant itself has a clean, modern atmosphere with plenty of natural light. It is quiet and relaxed, making it a nice place if you want a slower paced brunch without the usual DC crowds. The dining room is comfortable, although it could have used a little more energy. Evelyn was our server, and she was very pleasant throughout our meal. She was kind and professional, but it felt like her attention was somewhere else. Considering we were the only table in the restaurant, I expected a bit more attentiveness. I am not sure what she was juggling behind the scenes, but service felt slower than it should have been with such a light crowd. We started with the cinnamon roll, and unfortunately, it was the biggest disappointment of the meal. It was hard, dry, and honestly tasted like it came straight from the grocery store. I have absolutely no issue with a store bought pastry, but at the very least, warm it up. Serving it cold and stale was a strange choice and made a poor first impression. For our entrees, Willie ordered the egg and cheese sandwich, which was simple and satisfying. I went with the Greek yogurt bowl and added a side of crispy turkey bacon. Let me tell you, that turkey bacon was AMAZING. It was perfectly crisp without being overcooked and ended up being my favorite thing on the table. We also customized the lemon blueberry pancakes so they would be something both of us could enjoy, and that turned out to be a good decision. They were light, fluffy, and had a pleasant lemon flavor without being overly sweet. I paired everything with a pineapple juice, which was refreshing and complemented brunch nicely. Overall, the food was a mixed bag. There were a few bright spots, especially the turkey bacon and pancakes, but nothing that really made me eager to rush back. The cinnamon roll was a complete miss, and the service, while friendly, lacked the attentiveness I expected given how empty the restaurant was. Art and Soul feels like one of those places that works if you are staying at the YOTEL or simply need a convenient brunch without a wait. It is comfortable, easy to get into, and has a few menu items worth ordering. However, in a city like Washington, DC that has so many outstanding brunch options, I do not see this becoming a regular stop for me. Overall rating: 6.9/10. I would come back if I did not have anywhere else in mind, but it would not be my first brunch recommendation.
