Their ice cream is so creamy. My mom loves their vanilla bean you can see the bean in the ice cream. It's a simply store they have a small seating area, and some seating outside to people watch. I do want to return for some of the special flavors.

This ice cream is most likely my favorite ice cream shop that is in the dmv area. The amazing variety of flavors leave my mouth watering. Not just thinking about it but as well as knowing the sweetness and flavor that comes with the amazing scoop or SCOOPS of ice cream. The service is as wonderful as their ice cream. The time these workers take to make the ice cream is acceptable and I have never found any one rude or judgy. The inside is a warm and fun welcoming presence with a pop of color it makes you more excited and hungry for Van Leeuwens Ice Cream!

We walked up and tried to find line, asked a couple people, and were basically told there were two lines. So I got in the shortest one, of course! Right before I got to the counter to order the employee says to me "You are not in line. They are not in line," as if trying to call us out and shame us like we cut in line. We definitely didn't--and definitely didn't do it intentionally if we did. After that, I said "no thanks, we don't want anything. I don't appreciate being treated that way." I was sad to not get ice cream and even sadder to be treated so poorly. Owner Jason apparently overheard and came and talked to us as we left. I explained the situation and he agreed the line was confusing. He offered me and my friend ice cream cones on the house and I was not only incredibly grateful to be validated about the line, but also grateful to see how much this owner cares about his customer's experiences. Ice cream was great. And the concern about our experience was even better! Thank you Jason!!

My friend who used to live in Baltimore told me her and her mom loved Pitango. She is gluten-free and pretty much all of their gelatos are gluten free. They also had a large selection of dairy-free options too. It's a tiny shop, but there are what feels like over 20 flavors to pick from. The person who was working there was extremely kind and let us try whatever wanted. I tried the dark chocolate and bacio flavors and ended up choosing those as my gelato for the evening. The smallest cup was a regular and came out to able $9 with tip. There was a lot of seating options outside. I'd recommend this spot for a sweet treat.

They had a larger than expected non-dairy selection so I ended up with two such flavors in addition to one more conventional gelato flavor. All of them, including and almond nougat creation that was new to me, a bitter chocolate sorbetto, and a kiwi flavor with little fruit pieces, delivered amply on flavor. The price was more eye-watering than mouthwatering. I suppose it's both a premium location and premium quality, but that was a small cup for over $10. As an occasional indulgence, I do recommend it, and given that it's a Baltimore brand whose original location is near the water, there's something appropriate about it being on the wharf.
