I feel that Jim might be very helpful for some people, but I was disappointed and also did not get the results I reasonably expected. My two main concerns are as follows: 1) It appeared to me that Jim has a cookie-cutter way of approaching career advice. In principle I do not have a problem with that, but after the first meeting I would have expected that he realized that this had already been tried and adjusted accordingly. Which brings me to the second point. 2) For the hourly price I was paying, I believe it would be reasonable to expect that he would at least have reviewed the resume I had emailed. I got the very clear impression that when we met he was seeing my resume for the first time. A minor quibble is the ruthlessness with which he maintains his schedule, which may be a habit from his practice. I just wish he was as ruthless in the interest of his clients as he is towards his clients. read more

I went to Jim for a few sessions back in spring and summer 2013 when I was stuck in a role at a government contractor that I was dissatisfied with but could not escape without risking long-term unemployment. Jim was very empathetic and did a great job with helping to improve my resume. However, Jim's coaching didn't help me with job search strategy and actually was discouraging. I didn't want to pay $200+ an hour to feel hopeless when I could feel hopeless for free, so I didn't make any more appointments with Jim. I did get a new job through a completely different avenue. I'm in the job market again now, but my money and time will be best spent networking with people in my field. read more

I called Mr Weinstein to schedule an appointment. I was going on vacation in less than a week and wanted to get it scheduled before leaving so I could come back recharged and ready for change. He was somewhat pushy...pressuring me into coming in prior to leaving on vacation. I told him my schedule was hectic and I didn't think it would be possible but he continued to push and I relented. I called him back the next day to reschedule, 2 days prior to my appointment, because my schedule was just too packed and I had a time conflict. He was very upset and told me next time he needed more notice. I then sent him an email (because he was pushy and I didn't want to speak with him on phone), requesting a different day 12 days in advance. He NEVER returned email to confirm or deny. The day came and went and I finally received a response from him asking why I failed to make the appointment (the appointment he never confirmed). He just came off as pushy, spacey, disorganized and not the most technologically savvy. Update...he did email a nice apology and made his best attempt to rectify the situation. Misunderstandings happen. read more

Jim is truly a fantastic career coach. When I met Jim, I was recently out of college working a horrible job (daily deal-with-it harassment which led me to a pretty low point), and meeting with Jim gave me hope that I could get out of the situation I was in and do something more meaningful with my life. I had lost all self esteem, thought I didn't have any talents or intelligence, and his support and advice brought me back to taking control of my career and within months I had moved out of the city for a new job. I had an extremely successful but ultimately unsatisfying 20-year career in marketing and advertising. Successful in that I worked with great companies, did good work, and was well compensated. Unsatisfying in that, at the end of the day, I did not feel I was honestly being myself or leaving the mark I wanted to make. At that point, I decided to go to graduate school to pursue a degree studying the (fraught) interactions between religion and society in the US. I loved my return-to-academia experience and wouldn't trade it for anything. But when I completed my dissertation, I found it difficult to decide what I wanted to do next. I was unsure how to re-enter the workplace in my late 50s. This anxiety essentially ended up paralyzing me from job hunting. After a few sessions, Jim Weinstein helped me re-focus on the here and now rather than on the distant future. I was moved to write this review because a friend just asked me if I knew any good psychologists and I had to regretfully tell her that mine moved to DC! worked with Jim Weinstein when he was based in LA. I was referred to him by a good friend who I thought really had it together and he shared his secret with me.... JIM WEINSTEIN! I was having problems in my relationship and felt I needed to learn some communication skills. Jim helped me look at the situation in ways I would have never thought of-- I felt empowered and confident whereas before I was feeling confused and making the same mistakes over and over. He gave me some great advice on how to break free from limiting beliefs.
