Dental goodies and more!
Vivian R.

Highly, enthusiastically recommend! We had an unbelievably positive first dentist visit here for my toddler. My son is in a shy and stubborn phase, where he is wary of strangers and anything new - I expected we would not be able to get him to even open his mouth. But Chevy Chase Pediatric Dentistry is masterful at what they do. The decor feels more like an ice cream shop or toy store than a dentist office; my son was immediately put at ease. Dr. Bianca and every staff member there was super warm and friendly. To my great surprise my toddler listened to everything Dr. Bianca said and the visit went smoothly. Dr. Bianca was thorough and took time to answer all my questions. There are also clever touches like tv screens on the ceiling playing kid's movies, but we barely even needed it. Fortunately, CCPD is in my insurance network; I was surprised to learn that some popular pediatric dentists in the area don't accept insurance. At the end of the visit, my toddler got to pick a small toy in addition to the bag of dental goodies he received - he is already asking about his next visit!

Patient chalk board

First of all, adorable office. Looks like a beach house with amazing wooden toys to entertain the kids and make the experience pleasant and less scary. Each patient's name is written on a chalk board - such a clever and cute touch. Bedside manner - so nice! My son wasn't scared nor anxious at all. I'm so glad my pediatrician recommended this office and it's totally worth the trip as it is 40 mins away for me coming from downtown DC but I'll take it.

A Truly Exceptional Experience with Dr. Shin…read more As a nurse with 17 years of experience in procedures and sedation, I've seen my fair share of medical scenarios, but Dr. Shin stands out as one of the best examples of what healthcare should be. My 22-month-old son had a traumatic fall that caused damage to his upper front teeth. Two local dentists recommended pulling the three remaining teeth out immediately, and were dismissive of the need for X-rays, insisting that a child of his age would never sit still for an X-ray and that delaying the extractions could harm his permanent teeth. The plan was to restrain him, inject lidocaine (which I know from personal experience is always painful), and pull the teeth out. I wasn't comfortable with that approach. As a nurse who works with children, I've seen how painful procedures can create lasting fear of medical professionals, and I didn't want that for my son. After exhausting other options, I found Dr. Shin and her team. From the moment we walked into her office, Dr. Shin's approach was a breath of fresh air. She immediately engaged with my son, offering toys and creating a welcoming, trust-filled environment. Dr. Shin suggested taking an X-ray, which other offices had told me wasn't possible with a toddler. It showed that while there was a small chance the teeth would need to come out later if future X-rays show a developing infection, it wasn't urgent, and pulling all of them right away wasn't necessary. I was relieved to hear there was time to consider our options. Dr. Shin explained that one tooth did, in fact, need to be removed soon. She laid out two options for us: The first option involved general anesthesia with an anesthesiologist, who comes to the office once a month. However, as a nurse who starts IVs in children, I know how traumatic receiving an IV can be for a child. The second option, which we chose, was a thoughtful and humane approach. Dr. Shin suggested giving my son a weight-based dose of midazolam, a mild sedative that made him relaxed and sleepy. This allowed him to accept nitrous oxide (laughing gas) with ease, further helping him relax. To minimize pain, she applied a topical numbing agent to his gums before any lidocaine was injected--a step no other office had considered. Thanks to this careful, methodical approach, my son remained calm and comfortable throughout the entire visit. There were no tears, and I'm pretty sure (especially since he could watch his favorite show on the ceiling from the procedural chair), he didn't even realize the tooth had been pulled! Dr. Shin's compassion, skill, and dedication to providing the least traumatic experience possible for children are unparalleled. She took the time to ensure my son's experience was as positive as it could be--focusing not just on the procedure but on his emotional and physical comfort. As a nurse who works with children undergoing medical procedures, I can tell you that it takes a special person to balance decisiveness with gentleness, and to be both quick and patient when necessary. Dr. Shin does all of that, and more. I can't recommend her highly enough. She truly exemplifies the best of what pediatric dentistry can be.

What do you do when your 3 year old tells you two days in a row her tooth is hurting? You take her…read moreto see Dr. Pincock and his wonderful staff. We started to take her to our dentist but then remembered when our older kids were younger they went here and they were awesome with kids and had all the bells and whistles to keep them happy and somewhat distracted for a dental visit. We called the office and got an appointment the same day in the Rockville office, (they also have one in Germantown) and prayed for the best. Long story short, this was her first appointment ever, she had three, yes three cavities due to really groovy teeth that gummie vitamins did no justice to and so this would be no in and out exam. We were greeted at the front desk in the waiting area where there is plenty seating, some books and toys. I was handed paperwork to fill out through the tooth shaped cut out in the wall between the front desk and waiting area and then shortly after arriving we were called back to "the chair." The banana chair to be exact. My wee one was shown the chair, given some cool sunglasses to wear, and shown Mr. Thirsty, and the rest of the equipment that had appealingly appropriate names. The assistant did a wonderful job of answering all of her questions and making the equipment seem harmless and fun. And my daughter asked a lot of questions and she never lost patience with her. Dr. Pincock came in and examined her and was very kind and gentle as well and from start to finish while filling her first tooth, he walked her through it and she handled it like a boss. Many thanks to their skill and Mr. Happy Gas!! This was easily one of the best experiences any of my children have ever had at a dentist appointment and aside from a few moments of her being a little apprehensive, she did not leave traumatized. My six year old is now asking if he can go too. We finished up, she got a sticker and a bouncy ball, I made another appointment, and checked out and all was right in the my wee ones world. I'm so grateful that her experience was a good one and I highly recommend this office for children who aren't thrilled about the dentist. They knew exactly how to proceed and gently ease her into this new frontier she was crossing. Hoping her next appointment will be just as successful and she will stay brave and cooperate. 1st of 3 appointments...success!! P.S. This is not only for kids. They also had adult clients in there and I'm sure they are just as great with the adults. I know plenty of mature folks that just freak out at the dentist, hmmm maybe I should call them and tell them to give Dr. Pincock a try.
