Two technicians from other companies noticed the condensation bulb in the air handler was removed and said that was a big no-no that could have contributed to the unit failing. (I'm not saying it did since there's no way to know but it was certainly disturbing to hear that). When I asked SFD about this, they they either never noticed it or just missed it and that it wasn't that big of a deal. That was a little disappointing to hear because we paid hundreds of dollars for their bi-annual maintenance plan and they had just inspected the units although this time they sent a less experienced tech. They also gave us conflicting information about whether the other (working) air handler needed to be cleaned or not. I liked these guys a lot and trusted them but ultimately there were too many red flags and so they lost our business.

I was given the choice of three estimates which were way out of my price range and told the guy would need to call somebody else to get another estimate. The estimates were anywhere from the cheapest of $1500. Approx to over $3000. I was totally shocked as my unit is not that old and was told that the motherboard was not sending signals to the compressor to turn on and if they replace the motherboard, it still may not send the signal and then I would have to replace my compressor also. I called another company that was also recommended to me and a technician within 10 minutes found the problem to be a $240 capacitor, which was changed in less than a half an hour and I had air again!! I can't imagine a company trying to rip off somebody buy so much money and completely miss diagnosing, a simple problem and trying and turning it into a huge disaster! I confirmed the deal over the phone, and they scheduled a technician to come out the next day. When the tech arrived, he had no proper tools -- just a handheld brush and some liquid. After a quick job, he told me not to turn the AC on for two hours. When I finally did, the unit didn't work at all. I called back immediately and was told the tech would return. He never did -- in fact, he blocked my number. I called the company directly the next day and got nothing but the runaround all day long. In the end, I had to call a completely different company to come fix my AC, which cost me another $250. This company is a scam, plain and simple. I strongly urge anyone affected to file complaints and warn others. Don't fall for their bait-and-switch tactics -- it will cost you a lot more in the long run.
