Garage torsion spring broke 2 days before Christmas. After contacting local companies and seeing I was going to have to spend a lot of money to have someone do the job, I decided to do myself. There information on finding the right springs and YouTube how video was top notch. I was able to determine the correct spring and select a beefed up version and installed without any issues. Ordering online was easy. You pay with PayPal. No issues. The overnighted the springs to me the day after Christmas. I was expecting it to take longer. I have a two car wide garage door that was originally installed with a single torsion spring. A very heavy door for a single spring set-up. Spring broke and trying to find that same spring today (12 years after install) is nearly impossible. Of all the torsion spring retailers, only DDM had the functionality built into the website to provide the calculation for a two spring alternative. I had questions, so i called DDM, the call was answered quickly and a very professional conversation ensued. Now feeling comfortable with the new two spring alternative (and a clear explanation as to why I couldn't find the one spring replacement today) I felt the need to comparison shop. Six retailers later, DDM had the best price by a significant margin. Lastly, I ordered Wednesday morning and received the springs Friday midday, and that was using the basic shipping offering. Really great place. It was my first time working on a garage door, so I was struggling with all the types and measurements for springs which I needed to replace. The DDM website has an easy order tool that'll match springs to your door. I actually still had some restraints about whether I ordered the correct ones or not, and left a note on my order saying so, to which they called me about the next morning and asked me a few questions about my door and corrected my order. Awesome service right there. I received them quickly and was able to fix the door. Funny too that I searched for videos on Youtube for directions on replacing my springs (Torquemaster One) and a DDM video came up, which I used and was the best of the bunch. Also worth noting that only one garage door service place near me would sell parts over the counter, and they only had springs that were slightly different than mine which would have required a bit more repair work, and were more expensive than DDM. read more

I absolutely had to post a review for DDM. Their website has detailed tutorials for the DIY client. The site also walks you through exactly how to determine which spring you need. I ordered my replacement and after payment brings you back to their page. I noticed they were not far from me so i called up and asked if i could just pick it up. The woman on the phone was friendly and helpful. I arrived later that night and the staff inside was just as friendly. They gave me a few tips and sent me on my way. By the time i arrived at home a refund had already been sent to me for the shipping. DDM nailed customer service at every opportunity put before them. I had a broken torsion spring on my garage door and needed replacement parts. I was not too sure of the parts that I needed but the very informative videos by Dan Musick were incredibly helpful in determining what to order. I was surprised to find that during the ordering process I could select stronger parts that would last longer (which I did). I would highly recommend purchasing online and waiting to have the parts shipped because if you follow the videos, you will likely order the exact parts that you need. I can't say enough good things about DDM! I discovered them while I was obsessively researching how to replace torsion springs. I'm not even the slightest bit handy. I'm the exact type of guy who should not be trying to replace a torsion spring. I'm starting to realize that the only way to stop being the exact type of guy who should not be trying to replace a torsion spring is to force myself to learn how to do these types of things. Anyway, I read a lot of instructions, and watched a lot of videos. Before I even tried going to a store to buy the parts I needed, I noticed that almost all of the best instructional stuff out there was from DDM. So when I realized that the two biggest home improvement chains in my area don't even carry torsion springs, and the third biggest only carries springs for one brand of garage door, I decided to order everything from DDM. I probably would have ordered from DDM without ever going to any stores, because I really appreciated all of the information their site had. The only thing that made me try three physical stores first was that I didn't see anything on the website that said anything about shipping time, or shipping method. I was worried it might be the sort of thing that takes weeks, or even months. I ordered anyway though, and both orders came very fast. I think the first order was sent UPS and arrived maybe three business days after I ordered, and I'm pretty sure the second order, which was very small, was shipped USPS 2 day flat rate. In case you're wondering why I ordered twice, I could pretend that I ordered the torsion springs before I realized I needed bearings too, but I'm not going to lie to you. I ordered the torsion springs and a center bearing in my first order. I had no clue that there were also bearings in the end plates. You'd think that the fact that the center bearing is called a "center" bearing would have tipped me off to the fact that there are other bearings in other spots on the garage door assembly, but like I said I am the exact type of guy who should not be replacing garage door torsion springs. With the help of DDM's website, I finished the torsion spring replacement today. The garage door opens and closes great, and I have all of the body parts I had before I decided to do this project. This place is GOOD, I ordered torsion springs for my garage door because one broke, When you order you have to give them all the pertinent info about your garage door. They called me because something didn't make sense and am I glad they did. I redid the info and I had the weight of the door wrong and the inside diamiter of the springs wrong. I agree with the other 5-star reviews. My garage door was installed with unequal length torsion springs. Being an engineer, I remember looking up a the springs thinking at the time that this was a little odd, since the door was balanced, the guy wires and pulley sizes were balanced, and the opener was in the middle. 6 months later the short spring broke. There is a mechanical reason why the shorter spring will break. Anyway, DDM's unequal length calculator worked perfectly. I relocated the bracket to the middle, ran the calculator and ordered the springs. They arrived in 2 days. UPS ground. Fastest service from them I ever saw. I was a little concerned, about DDM's calculator, but the springs worked perfectly. The garage door service company I called wanted $600 to replace the springs and would not relocate the bracket. DDM's solution cost me less than $100 and 3 hours of my time. read more
