There was one older man running the front of the house with no help on a weekend afternoon and he seemed stressed and not very friendly. I did not feel I was treated with any kindness, concern or care. He didn't seem to have the time to clean the table where I wanted to sit (and keep in mind there were no more than 8 people total dining in the restaurant) so I just took the table he offered which was right in front of the restroom. I then proceeded to help myself to the buffet, which had a lot of choices. On the left is salad items and very watered down chutneys, in the middle vegetable dishes, and on the right meat dishes (mostly chicken). The dishes on the back side of the buffet against the wall had foil on them and it wasn't until I went for a second plate and some of the foil had been taken off that I realized I missed half the food! All the fried foods for that matter! One thing they definitely have going for them is selection. I had no water so I had to ask for that, and the waiter just acted like he knew, but if he knew he should have brought it when I first sat down. Then I had to ask for naan, and again he just seemed to know he was late in getting it to me, and I had to wait. No apologies. I finished my first plate of food before the naan ever came, and it wasn't very good naan anyway, so no big loss there. The food was all incredibly too salty for my taste, and very average quality. As I was paying and leaving there was a couple that came in and they wanted to sit at the same table where I had initially wanted to sit, and the table was still dirty. Last week, I visited Saroor Indian Cuisine on North Main in Walnut Creek. The new owners have completely transformed the space, and it's now so light and bright! Everything was really clean and beautiful! I went for the $18.99 lunch buffet, and everything was fresh and delicious. They had many popular dishes, such as Vindaloo, Tika Masala, and even Goat Curry. The buffet specials rotate daily. The buffet is available seven days a week from 11 AM - 3 PM. They also have a to-go option; I think it's around $21. This is the new owner's first time owning a restaurant; it's been their dream. Congratulations to them! Saroor Indian Cuisine has been around for a long time. It is located on the east side of North Main St, just north of OfficeMax and away from the busy downtown area. I came here with my buddy George F. to try out their lunch buffet on 06/12/2025. We walked in just a little bit before 11am but was told by the staff that the buffet service would not be ready until 11:30am. We decided to grab some coffee nearby before coming back. We returned at 11:30am and the staff was still putting food out. One of them seated us at the table away from the main dining area, and water was brought to us soon after. The interior was clean, and decors were minimal. There was a large TV in the main dining area showing some news programs. Lunch buffet was $15.95 per person and featured a decent array of meat and vegetarian dishes, fruits and salad, kheer, etc. Overall, the food was delicious. I particularly enjoyed the goat curry, fish pakora, saag paneer, and naan/fried bread. Service we received was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a Indian buffet without breaking your bank, Saroor is definitely a place to keep in mind. For the price they charge, I'm not sure of you can get a burger or burrito these days, let alone a buffet. Worth visiting if you are in the area. 4 stars. Visited this lunch buffet after change of ownership. The offerings there were mushroom & pea curry, tandoori chicken, saag paneer, goat curry, chicken curry, fish pakora, tandoori chicken, a chickpea dish plus chicken tikka masala. Some of the dishes could use more spices and less salt as many dishes were relatively salty without being spicy. My favorite were actually the goat curry, curry chicken, and saag paneer. What I didn't like was the white rice ran out for a long time and so did the chicken tandoori-- by the time the refills came out I was already full. The temperature of the food could also be hotter. This review is mostly meant for people who have eaten here before the new ownership. I have been going to Saroor for over 10 years and I can't believe I'm about to write a negative review for what was once my favorite Indian restaurant around. I have been twice now for takeout since the new ownership, so I can't comment on the service, but both times the food was incredibly disappointing. I thought at first, maybe it was just a bad day, and decided to give it a second try, but nope! The recipes have changed and all of the food is worse now. It's not terrible, it's maybe even fine. If it was a new restaurant, I wouldn't be bothered. But it's not anything close to the standard of quality I have come to expect from Saroor. The curries are watery and lack the richness of flavor that they had before. The samosas are now half the size. You might as well call the onion naan plain because there's barely any onion in it. And all the naan that was once crispy is now spongy and devoid of texture. The saag paaneer I used to enjoy tastes like it was made with frozen spinach. Somehow even the rice got worse! Yes, everything has a new coat of paint and it looks nicer inside. But I never cared about that to begin with. I feel like it's dishonest to continue operating under the same business name, while completely replacing the food. More regulars like myself will be tricked into going in for something familiar only to be let down. I wouldn't even be mad if they just changed the name of the business! read more

Located on the West side of the 680 nestled among the car dealerships and repair shops the building and outside is dated. The inside is even more dated and looks like it was left behind from the 80's. We got there right at 11 am when they were supposed to open but were told they would not be ready until 11:30. ***tip the buffet is not ready until 11:45. Food 4 stars the buffet has many choices and the food is good. They brought out naan and specially brought out some additional fried naan which was excellent. Service was good with the server checking in and clearing dirty plates. Plenty of parking. *** note the facilities are old spooky especially the restroom. As you open the door from dining room to the 1 restroom, directly to the left is a pitch black staircase down to a basement. To get to the restroom you need to proceed around a dimly lit corridor with no ingress or egress, eerie to say the least. read more

My family is genuinely disappointed. We picked up takeout after a long road trip, and this was our first visit under the new ownership. Saroor has been our go-to Indian restaurant for the past 10 years. We always knew the wait could be long, but the food was consistently so flavorful and delicious that it was absolutely worth it. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. The recipes for all of our longtime favorites seem to have changed. The chicken tikka masala was, sadly, the biggest disappointment. It tasted nothing like the rich, flavorful version we've loved for years and honestly didn't resemble any chicken tikka masala we've had elsewhere. The garlic naan was also completely different--soggy, with large chunks of garlic on top instead of the balanced flavor it used to have and crispy texture. Even the basmati rice had changed. It had a sticky texture rather than the light, fluffy rice we've always received. My favorite mushroom and pea curry also lacked the familiar spices and aromas that made it such a standout dish. What made Saroor special was never the décor--it was the incredible food. We didn't care about updated furniture or a refreshed dining room. We came because the recipes, flavors, and chefs made this restaurant exceptional. If there's one piece of feedback we could give the new owners, it would be this: please bring back the original chefs and the original recipes. That is what built Saroor's loyal following, and it's why so many of us kept coming back year after year. We're incredibly saddened by this experience. This restaurant has been a family favorite for a decade, and we never imagined we'd be looking for another Indian restaurant. Second visit since new owners take over. It's not unusual for a new restaurant or new owners to start off promising/planning to do more than is realistic over time. So I always like to return, and try again, and see if they're able to maintain high standards. As I wrote in my prior review, I'm a long time customer. I was there not long after new owners took over... stopped in again today, a month later. And I'm pleased to report that today, things were as good as, if not better than my first visit with new owners last month. Some new items added to the rotation on the buffet. Great curry dishes. Went in for the time with the new owners, been going there since the two brothers moved there from sargam location , 25 yrs ago. Not a good experience. Firstly, where you could pay $.99 more and get garlic naan with your entree, they're not allowing that anymore. They're now making you pay $6! Now to the food. Got a vege korma, consistency of soup! The raita had a consistency of water! Garlic naan was no where near as good as original owners. Whether they're trying to maximize profits or, unfortunately, they're not following the original recipe, its not good. Not feeling like going back! So disappointing. First time trying Saroor although my wife has been here several times with her co-workers when it was under the previous owners. She was impressed with the new look as she said it's brighter and looks cleaner. The food was very good - I had the goat curry (my favorite), Tika Masala chicken, spinach, rice and, of course, naan. The wife had the same and Pakoras. Service was very good as the waiter immediately served us a pitcher of water and a basket of naan. He also made sure to pick up our used plates. I always order one of 5 or 6 things from here but they are ALWAYS amazing. It's consistent flavor and portions every time. And let me just say that the flavor has spice depth and just great balance. It's the only spot I ordered from in my area and whenever I travel for work It's still isn't as good as Saroor. Once there, I changed my mind and decided to get the buffet ($15.95) instead. There were just a few patrons when I arrived but the place got busier after noon. Favorites - paneer mutter, goat curry, naan, bhatura. Also tried the kheer, saag lamb and chicken makhani. Saroor is my favorite spot in Contra Costa county for Indian food. The buffet is always a good choice. The food is a step up from other local Indian restaurants, in my opinion. Very flavorful. My only request is that they would offer papadum in the buffet, which they do not currently. I also love to go to Saroor for dinner. If you like spicy, you are in luck: you can order mild, medium, or spicy. You can get it HOT if you'd like. Be sure to communicate with the waiter, because sometimes the chef is different, and it may be a variation of what is considered "hot". The ambience is casual and somewhat informal. I would like to suggest that they add some quiet music in the background, since it is often silent. Sometimes you can even hear a bit of the bass from the nearby bar's blasting music. The owner is very nice. They seem to do a lot of takeout and door dash, and usually there is a lot of seating available. read more

I'm not going to sugarcoat the experience, because this 22 year north Walnut Creek treasure is in need of TLC, especially for interior decorating, but for us, the food and the service were excellent! We came for dinner on a Sunday evening and Krishna welcomed us with warmth and hospitality. At the hour we went there was not much competition for tables, but we both both appreciate appreciated that there wasn't a sports TV blaring in our face ! Time for a nice quiet chat, and some excellent Indian cuisine. I ordered their first class tandoori chicken platter, which sizzled in the tandoori tradition, and my wife ordered the lamb curry Rogan gosh. The portions were reasonable to generous, and each included a choice of a basket of hot non-or rice -- both were excellent! we split a large flying horse, beer, perfect, and refreshing to balance out the spice of the tandoori chicken and exciting Rogan gosh. The food and service exceeded expectations and we will definitely return to try their lunch buffet very soon ! Such a good and authentic Indian place in walnut creek!! Kind of a hole in the wall but it was exactly what we needed on a cold night. We were seated right away and all our food came out super quick and tasted super fresh and hot. We got medium spicy for all our food and it was still an enjoyable level of spice. We decided to go here for dinner right 5pm opening. From outside, the building looked run down and old but upon entering the restaurant, it was pleasantly clean and inviting. The food was delicious. Sure, portions may not be as huge as they used to be (I don't think you can run a biz anymore these days serving massive quantities like they used to over 10 years ago) but I still think it's quality food and my kids still love it. I see other reviews claiming bad service... maybe I just get lucky every time but they're always very nice to me here. Yesterday I actually arrived before typical lunch time, and I was getting to-go food and not buffet, so there was a bit of a wait. The owner seemed to feel bad I had to wait so he served me indian coffee (quite good) and even fed me some pakoras from the buffet table while waiting. He was very kind. I do worry that they'll be able to stay open. WC has changed so much over the years and it's so fancy-pants now and I'm sure people would consider this location just too run down and out of the way to bother, but for me it's still a solid value. read more

Hit the lunch buffet today. People here seem to like it. I didn't. I feel ok, but to me that's pretty generic, dull food. The chicken curries both lacked any heat, ditto the potatoes and bell peppers. The tandoori chicken was moist but carried that red dye without much hint of flavor. The nan was thin and dense. Why have fried bread? Spices were barely present in any dish. The onion pakoras were ok, but really glorified onion rings. Raita also dull. I left feeling a bit mislead- these dishes should not be so bland! I didn't try the saag or Chana dal, given the other dishes. I did try the restroom, which had an overpowering odor of urine. This is my go-to Indian spot in the East Bay. I highly recommend the Shahi Paneer. Each entree comes with an option of naan or rice. Even the rice by itself is delicious, but the flavors, spices, and accompanying green and tamarind sauces are delicious. The food may be good, but the wait times for pick up orders are painful! Especially when they tell you 15 minutes, you drive there and then you're order takes an hour to fulfill. They need to figure out who they want to be now. I get that they increase their revenue by taking mobile orders, but when you de-prioritize your loyal customers who come to you directly, that is bad business. read more
