Well I have nothing negative to say about De Cortez, it wasnt my favorite. It is located on the beach on the Hacienda Del Mar resort! We had a reservation for 7:00p. We were sat immediately. The wait staff was sooooo patient, kind, helpful and EVERYTHING TO US. We started with water-distilled for me and sparkling for bestie! For my meal I started with the ROMAINE LETTUCE SALAD-Caesar dressing, Grana Padano cheese, crispy sourdough bread. That freakin salad was OMG SOOOO great, I wanted one to go! Lol For my entree I ordered DRY-AGED RIB EYE FROM BLACK ANGUS (300G)-A 45-day dry-aged rib eye, perfectly marbled and grilled to perfection, accompanied by roasted garlic mashed potatoes WITH a side of the grilled shrimp. OK OK. OK the entree was not the best but OK. My rib eye was not what Im use to. It was two different temperatures on each end. My shrimp were a little overcooked but I still tried to enjoy my food. We had complementary bread which was tasty! When I return to the resort not sure I will return to De Cortez. BUT THE SERVICE UNMATCHED! Thanks!!!!! read more

This is part of the Marriott, autograph collection now. The view is absolutely beautiful on the beach, with a firepit and live music. What I didn't like was that there was an upcharge to come here if you're on all-inclusive. It was $35 per adult and $17 per child. At the front desk was when they told us there was an upcharge for adults but they told us kids were free. It wasn't until we got to the restaurant that they told us children were also an upcharge. There's also certain drinks you could not get and then the wagyu was another upcharge. I just felt like there was an upcharge for everything. They told us if we buy a bottle of wine, they will take the upcharge off, but the bottle needs to be more expensive then the entrance charges to get in. We did not end up doing that. The drinks we could get unlimited but everything else was limit 1 per person. So each person could order one appetizer, one entree and one dessert. The service was good, the food was good, but there's so many options on this resort and the food everywhere at the other restaurants were also so good, that I don't know if this place is worth the entrance fee. I will say though, the live music was very nice, and I'm not sure they have steak at the other restaurants, so if you really want steak, this might be the only place. read more

Loved having breakfast here! Everything was tasty... ordered 2 sets of chilaquiles, some waffles, and a fruit bowl... the chilaquiles were delicious and the kids enjoyed the waffles and the eggs. I ate the fruit bowl and it was also so good with all their toppings. For an appetizer, I had a dozen oysters. Being February, I asked if it was advisable to eat them as I had always heard only eat oysters in months that end in R (e.g. September, October, ...). Well mine were delicious, plump, juicy, and briny. Wow!My partner also ordered scallops. They were sea scallops, big, juicy, and plump. We washed it all down with an espresso martini, delicious! For the main, I had the lobster tail, thinking only a small langoustine or small single tail. Was I pleasantly surprised to find 3 x 4 oz. Lobster tails. They were plump, sweet, me ample. My partner had the New York steak. Normally we choose rib eye in the US, but we have found the New York steak in Latin America to be superior to rib eye from the same region, it was succulent, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. Our friends shared a tomahawk steak. It was huge. But, fryer tasting it, I preferred our New York much better, for its flavor and tenderness. We asked for Cabernet and they gave us one from "California" he said. What he meant to say was Baja California. It wasn't bad but really sub-par. When we stay here, we eat at De Cortez at least 2-3 times. Their food was amazing, the ambience is unbelievable, and the service is impeccable. It's right next to the beach. I suggest you go at sunset, right when it opens for evening and you will get the best service. read more

My husband and I had a dinner reservation here and when we arrived we were seated in the back and forgotten. My husband and I are Mexican and Black. We were the only non white customers at this restaurant. We are owners at this resort but that didn't matter. We were still ignored and when we asked for the manager to ask what was going on Guadalupe, the manager came over and was extremely rude. The entire time we were trying to talk to him he kept sighing and looking at his watch. The restaurant wasn't busy so it's not like we were keeping him from anything. We never got our drinks or food so I have no idea if the food is any good but we will NEVER go back and I will be sharing our experience with other guests and owners of the resort. read more

Then we were seated outside in the cold but halfway through they switched us indoors. The lights were flickering and the food took forever. I had a salad which was good and the rest of the party got steaks and we had to send 4 of them back because they were not cooked right. One of the steaks was still raw after sending it back. It was definitely a five star experience. It was my last night in Cabo and we've decided to have our dinner at De Cortez and I was literally blown away by the quality of service, food presentation, delicious food and the ambiance. My aunt and I shared their meat and seafood platter and it was enough for three people. It comes with 3 kinds of red meat, fish of the day, shrimps and scallops and also it was accompanied by 4 sauces and 2 sides. It was delicious and overwhelming at the same time. They'll serve you asparagus gazpacho with baked bread as a starter and some homemade bread and butter which I literally ate most of them---i seriously love soft, fresh homemade bread. After our dinner we decided to try their Opera cake for dessert and some coffee honey a cocktail drink with Crown Royal, Baileys and Brazilian espresso---i wasn't expecting it was a cold drink though. Let's talk about their amazing service. They all have an amazing rhythm as if I'm watching a show. I can tell that they take pride on what they do and they do it with passion. We went there for dinner for two consecutive nights and was consistently wowed by the food. - Seared scallops - Will pass on this since the scallops are overcooked to the point of rubbery - Sea bass ceviche - Yum! ordered it both nights. - Slow roasted pork belly - So good, you will not regret it! - Beef tartare - loved it! - Clam Cream - taste was really good but presentation was a little trying too hard - Garlic shrimp (to share) - great flavors and aggressive spices. Recommended! - New York steak - cooked to perfection but portion is HUGE. - Risotto with beets - didn't think I'd like it but it was delicious. We have frequented this restaurant for very many years as we are timeshare owners at the Hacienda Del Mar. The food has always been four or five star quality, but on this occasion, it was far from it my daughter-in-law ordered her steak medium well, and it arrived on the rare side of medium rare. I ordered the beautiful large Mexican shrimp, which arrived rather badly over cooked on the grill. The side dishes, which are priced as if they are to be shared by the table, came out in small, roughly single serving size dishes, which is just wrong. All in all rather disappointing, given the previously excellent food, but service is still superb. read more

Ordered Grilled Chicken and it was served frozen. No apologies, the manager said we just happen to have a lot of customers today.

This was hands down the worst dinner experience we've ever had. First, we had to wait almost 20 minutes for the waiter to come and take our order. It seemed like he was the only one taking orders. The support staff were all very nice but most could not communicate in English very well. Fortunately, my husband speaks fluent Spanish so the rest of us had to rely on him to translate our questions and then their responses. We couldn't believe how expensive the wine list was. Wines that we normally get at restaurants back home were 4x the amount here. As a result, we decided to try a local wine and that was still $68 USD for the bottle...but it was pretty good. It is also worth noting that they chill all the red wines here. I honestly don't even recall what we had for appetizers or desert because I was sooo disappointed with our Tomahawk steak. Our order took forever to arrive and when our Tomahawk steak arrived, I could tell it was cold already. They then proceeded to take it over to a nearby grill to slice it up for us. My heart sank when I saw them put each slice onto the grill. Even with that, the slices arrived rare and we had ordered it medium. We asked them to grill the slices a little more so it would be medium. We knew it would dry it out but there is no way my husband will eat it that rare. When I tried to cut into my first slice, I literally could not. The knife was very dull but it was also due to the fact that there was so much tendon (or whatever that tough white stuff is called) that even a sharper knife was not helpful. My second slice was no better. My husband's slices were chewable and he shared some with me. The Tomahawk cost $140 USD. I was expecting a delicious piece of steak, not something you would get a Norms back home. We didn't send the steak back because we didn't want to get anyone into trouble. Not sure how they handle situations like this in Mexico. Our friends enjoyed their hamburger (which was huge) and the catch of the day. If it wasn't for that, I would have given this place one star! read more

He wanted to surprise me with dinner on the beach listening to the sound of the waves in candlelight. Let me tell you this was very romantic. I did not realize we were going to be taken outside to a table of our own where our server was super friendly. My boyfriend had the meal pre-planned with the chef. It was amazing. We stayed at the Sheraton Hacienda and DeCortez was the nicest restaurant on resort. It's tucked away on the quiet side of the resort and you get to see & hear the giant waves crashing to shore. Lovely view! The food was really yummy too! Not the best I've had but considering its hotel food it was awesome! I had the braised octopus and it really hit the spot. My husband had the seafood medaley which was fresh and well prepared. This is an ideal mid week dinner where you're looking for something delicious but still in the resort. While staying at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar, I visited this restaurant twice. The first was our very first night, when we were walking the grounds and noticed the fire pit in the bar area. My friend loved it and insisted we get dessert by the fire, even though we just came from dinner. I was game, especially when a guitarist was playing for the patrons and I realized he was singing Radiohead. (!!) So not what I was expecting in Mexico, haha. The service was good, as we settled in next to the fire pit. It was literally on the beach, as we could reach around the pit and touch the sand. When they handed us their menus, we kind of freaked out when we found they were selling Veuve for $10 a glass. Is this for real?! We had to order a round to go with our chocolate textures dessert. The dessert was basically chocolate five different ways. Let me tell you...their chocolate mousse was one of the best things I ate on our trip. We had such a good time that we ended up here again on our last night for dinner. Definitely catch the sunset if you can. Once the moon came up, you could see the ocean and hear the waves. So lovely. The food itself was only four stars, so I cannot recommend this place highly for meals. But for an ocean view with live music in the bar? I'd spend all night there drinking Veuve if I could. read more

As I saw the food approaching, my mouth opened wide in awe of how perfect it looked. The service at De Cortez was phenomenal, with waiters always ready to help. After we ordered, our waiter repeated the order back to us. As the night went on, we asked a few questions which the waiter was able to answer. (Such as: "Is this the ocean or the sea?" Or "Do the docks ever boat here?" The servers came over with our food after a short wait. I had ordered pasted with butter sauce. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the butter sauce was delectable with a hint of garlic to top it all off. After our main course, they brought out a small drink to clean your palate. I wasn't sure if it would taste very good, but when I tried it, it tasted fine to me. The later it got the colder it got outside. Soon enough, the waiters came by asking us if we needed a blanket. There were many options for desert, but I simply went for the vanilla ice cream. It was very good and not freezer burnt. I would say the only little negative part of this restaurant is that you will probably need to make a reservation to assure that you will get a table. I love this restaurant, and I will definitely be making many more reservations here! read more

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants to visit while in Cabo. On a Wednesday, my husband made reservations for Friday evening at 7pm--for an outside table for two overlooking the Sea of Cortez--so we could see and listen to the waves roll in and out as we wined and dined. Sounds romantic, right? So we arrive on Friday evening at 7pm and they don't have our reservations! Said they could seat us but to wait a little. After @ 10 min., they came and got us and put us at a big round table that could probably seat 6-8 people and it was not next to the sea. We didn't want that spot so there was a table for 2 available where we had originally requested to be but needed to be cleaned off. Okay, no problem, we could wait. Got seated and then waited and waited for a waiter to come by to take our drink orders, etc. To make this story shorter, suffice it to say our waiter was missing in action most of the evening. From ordering our drinks to ordering our dinner, he was never too attentive to see if everything was good or if we needed anything else. The food, which is usually excellent was just so-so. My fish (sea bass) was rather bland and dry. The endive salad (over pebble rocks!) was different and the rocks made it difficult to cut the lettuce. Interesting concept but not too smart. My husband said the New York steak he had pretty good. All in all, the whole experience there was so disappointing--especially knowing how wonderful and delicious it used to be. read more

My favorite meal in Cabo. Listening to the waves crash as you eat was wonderful and relaxing. The guitar player and singer was also very enjoyable. We started with a glass of Mexican red blend wine and it was very delicious. I ordered a cheese tray to split with my daughter; I really enjoyed all of the cheeses -the honey and the tomato jam were both wonderful, they serve it with a mix of tasty breads, including a pumpernickel with raisin(personal fave). Chef gave a taste of delicious cerviche, was the best I have ever tasted. We ordered a New York strip it was very good cooked perfectly and tender. The accompaniment Asparagus and mashed potatoes were both good; I can't say enough about asparagus, it was literally the best I've ever had -roasted in a skillet and very delicious. Opera cake was my least Favorite part of the meal but it was good I preferred the crunchy coffee bits, to the actual cake. Service could've been more attentive, The servers were very nice but was left sitting more than once needing things. The food was absolutely delicious and we were very impressed with how they handled the timing of the food with the large amount of people in the restaurant. Our waiter, Andres, was fantastic and very attentive. The reason for four stars was that this meal was very expensive and included an open bar. They only offered one white and one red. I think for the amount of money that we spent, a larger variety of wines should be available. read more
