Truly spectacular vegetarian meal. I live in New York, came to Amsterdam for four days, ate at many veg restaurants - and this was the very best. Plus the wine is really cheap (by American standards) and everyone is incredibly nice. Highly recommend. One of the best meals I've ever had.

Three reasons we went here: - Three minutes from my house ;-) - Charcoal oven where they make the pizza's - It was 'Gierige Maandag' (Greedy Monday); pizza's were 8 euro's So yea. The combination of these factors made us go here. The place is nicely decorated, great for a multitude of reasons. Good wifi available, good beers both bottled and draft, and god yes those pizza's. De-lish. They were very nicely done and even though it's called Gierige Maandag, they definitely were not Gierig with the toppings. Great mozzarella, lovely crust, not too much cheese (god I hate too much cheese), very nicely balanced flavors. We switched halfway through our pizza's and I can confirm that both were amazing. They have a number of specials depending on the day, so I'd recommend trying out a few of these days. But the pizza they serve are what hooked me and I'm sure it'll get you hooked, too. You're welcome! :-)

I would return with Family and friends! Menu: basically 3 choices of 5 or 6 courses (one vegetarian (not vegan), two mixed with meat, fish, etc. food starts coming right away! Small bites followed the courses. I went with the vegetarian option and it was spectacular. I did 6 but would have been fine with 5 courses. Each bite was full of flavor and thoughtful construct. Inspired by traditional components with a modern twist. Wine: lots of bottles to choose from. I had one glass of a German wine that tasted like a Pinot noir. I forgot the name. It was suggested and very nice. Ambiance. Located in more of a commercial part of town it's away from city center but easy to access. Lots of seating but it filled up with all the reservations. I suggest a reservation. Cost seemed appropriate for the detail, quantity, quality and flavor. I wondered about the quantity of food and left very satisfied. In fact I would have had less bread it it was so tasty and I like bread with the condiments provided!

Dutch customers were well taken care of but we couldn't get anyone to even look our way. I say they may have relaxed because there was a large sign that said "you've got an effing Michelin star now". The staff was super relaxed and chatty - to themselves. 40 minutes after serving the last dessert not a single server had come over to check on us or even look in our direction. I have no idea what we did to deserve this. I have a bib gourmand meal in Reims France that was twice as delicious, 100x better service, and half the cost. Extremely disappointed in the cost to experience.

If you are sharing a meal with someone, get items from a different prix-fixe menu and you can both try a variety of items. We enjoyed: * Charcuterie plate: sausages taste minimally processed and delicious * Beef and onion stew: taste slightly different than ones in America * Cauliflower and cheese oven bake: vegetarian's comfort food * Hutspot (mashed potatoes and carrots) and meatballs: non-vegetarian's comfort food * Pea soup with smoked ham For desserts, we had chocolate mousse and vlaflip (vanilla custard) and they were just okay. I'm not sure if desserts are the Dutch's strengths, except maybe the Dutch apple pie. They even bottle their own house beer. The restaurant is small. Try to make a reservation if you can. We didn't have a reservation, but went to the restaurant at around 5PM and were seated in about 15 minutes. At times, the line could get very long, but the staff is still welcoming and ensures that everyone gets served...eventually.

The reservations are in time blocks--so everyone enters together at the reservation time. It is orderly, not a mad rush, but they are serious about the reservation timing. We ordered Menu 3 (pictured) which was excellent for comfort food: --Trio of Dutch sausages, bread, Amsterdam pickles, and mustard --Hachee served with red cabbage and mashed potatoes --Chocolate duo with advocaat (chocolate mousse and ice cream) To get the reservation, we had to wait at our computer on the day the reservations open, then book immediately. It was hard reservation to get, but very much worth it.

The Pantry - I hadn't had Dutch apple pie since my days waiting tables at Denny's, in the '80s & this was well worth the wait.
