    old-fashioned Dutch wall paper

Wonderful local restaurant that features fresh, local ingredients. No problem ordering in English. Bread was served with a spread comprised of pork belly fat and apple compote. Definitely different and surprisingly good. The dishes were light and delicious. I was surprised to find white asparagus as a choice for main dish and am glad I ordered it. The old-fashioned Dutch wallpaper was a nice touch. I haven't seen these in 30 years! Interesting that a bottle of beer (3.5 euros) costs less than a bottle of sparkling water (5 euros). Maybe this is only interesting to this Americano. Pictures coming....

Yum! Came here while on holiday in Europe after reading a brief description in my guide book. My companion made reservations online in the morning for dinner. We ended up having to walk quite a bit after getting off the tram but that was only because we walked passed the cross street by accident! It was a bit rainy, which made the commute a little difficult, and it ended up making us about half an hour late for our reservation. However, the restaurant wasn't full when we got there so we were able to be seated right away - great service! I got the anglerfish and this rose wine (ended up choosing one of the cheapest wines I could find) but it was SO GOOD! The fish was cooked perfectly and not fishy tasting at all but really fresh and ocean-y (if that makes sense). My companion ordered pork medallions which came with something called 'hot lightning' which was potatoes and apples and spices mashed together - really good. It's pretty fancy and expensive, but I didn't feel shy or embarrassed about being a tourist. Ambiance is really romantic and sweet and the wait staff is so friendly and helpful.

Food, service and price were all good. I had a 3 course set and each dish was good. The food is 'calorie dense' so bring an appetite as it was a heavy meal. If you're in the mood for traditional Dutch cooking, slightly modernized, I think you'll enjoy this place. The ingredients are high quality and you can taste it. *pork fat spread for bread. I ate this in Poland last month and the Dutch version is way better. I also thought the white asparagus were delicious and I now understand why these are so popular in this part of the world. Yum.

I got mixed feelings about this Place. We shared the large starter platter and added the sandwiches with fois gras and the black pudding so we got small samplers of all the appetizers. Some like the soup and the sugarbread with fois gras was great while some of the fish treats really didnt taste much at all. My main was supposed to be "Chicken filé with saffron sauce and mashed potatoes". Since i dont like my food on a bone i was quite disappointed when the chicken was on the leg wich was not like described on the menu. The sauce was "ok" and the mash was really good. My girlfriend had the veal filé with a strange potatoe cake filled with with sausage from the netherlands and herbs. There really was more sausage then potatoe in that sidedish and was more like a dish on its own then working good with the filé. The steak and red wine sauce was fine though. With one bottle of wine, 2 beers and a shared dessert the check was 145 € exkl tip and i dont think it was worth it. With food thats only ok and the high prices i cant give Greetje more then 3 stars.

An amazing restaurant with typical Dutch meals with gourmet quality! Fantastic place and with good weather you can eat outside. Make sure to reserve a table.

I didn't have dinner here though I did have the opportunity to browse the menu. It's primarily a Dutch menu but creative and well presented with a nice variety of meats and fish. It's also a cozy little restaurant with an elegant yet comfortable decor. The service was warm and hospitable. Though I only had a drink here while awaiting friends to go to another place the staff made me feel welcome and offered me the house Frisen bread which I highly recommend. It was a dark sugary bread that was served with two spreads that were also lekker. I'll definitely be going back for dinner sometime. The atmosphere, the menu and the service were all worth five stars in my opinion.

Great little spot to get a taste of Dutch cuisine. I had the suckling pig and it was delicious. Gebr. Hartering (featured in Anthony Bourdain's The Layover) is right across the street, so you can take your pick.

I found it browsing Yelp, and the name alone told me this was going to be a meat-forward kind of night. Fair warning if you're bringing anyone squeamish about restaurant names: The wife wasn't thrilled about it going in, though the food won her over fast. Getting there was its own small adventure. The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam.

It was very warm in the place, so keep that in mind if you're traveling in Amsterdam during a heat dome! We had a couple servers who worked with us nd both were kind and friendly. They didn't quite communicate with each other about our need to split the check a specific way, but it worked out in the end. We enjoyed some cocktails and beer (ranging from 9.50 Euro to 12 Euro), as well as the Pork Belly and Pickles to start off (21.50 Euro for 300 grams). Tasty way to start the meal. The three of us shared our mains and enjoyed what we had. The Favorite Ribs (24.50 Euro) were flavorful; the L'Incroyable 300gr (Ribeye; 34.50 Euro) was good, but our least favorite of what we ordered; the Le Cannibale Royale 170gr (burger) was super tasty. We also enjoyed some frites (4.90 Euro) and some delicious Mac n Cheese (6.50 Euros). Good time and good food!

We sat on the patio. Our server brought us complementary bread with butter while we read through the menu. I'm told my meal was authentic Dutch food, but it just seemed like a strange combination. The name slipped my mind, but it was a Power mashed potatoes with endive, but the meatball on top with brown gravy and then be beside that with some type of smoked sausage with a pile of mustard. I've always felt that whatever food you put on a plate should taste good together sausage with the mustard with the meat and the gravy and the mashed potatoes just seem disjointed to me. With that sad, I ate every drop of it and enjoyed it so maybe I learned something from this meal. ‍ My son took the alternative approach and ordered a meal with Indonesian flavors; chicken with peanut sauce was the main entrée and it came with french fries. He definitely enjoyed his meal as well. I'm glad we gave VS a try. It turned out to be a good meal of Dutch food and a touristy area with food from all over the world. I guess I'm old-fashioned because I just wanted wanted a taste of the local cuisine. Cheers!

It was busy and every table on the quaint (hate this overused word too) outside patio was occupied and two small tables inside. Basically, a snug 'standing room only' cafe. I ordered cappuccino for "take away" from the young female barista who was diligent at the espresso machine. While she was preparing my coffee, I noticed several bags of green and white coffee on the shelves bearing the Mortimer brand name. I asked her, "Was the coffee Italiano ? She said, "Sir, I told you to wait for your coffee"! Whoa, I was taken back for a second, then explained that I only wanted to know the coffee's origin. I stood to the side of the counter and the girl smiled and stated, "I think English beans, It's our brand of coffee". My anticipation for a wonderful cold early morning in Amsterdam just went limp and sadly never improved - This type of attitude is not the norm in Amsterdam which we experienced - but everyone has a bad day from time to time. My two cups of cappuccino were ready, which were oddly small for 4€ (see pic, and you decide). With a knee jerk reaction, I still tipped the girl, grabbed some sugar and coffee cup covers and left the shop. This brief interaction tainted my expectation of this cafe, especially in an area that is tourist heavy. At the end of the day, the cappuccino tasted good, the fresh bread loafs and croissants on the counter looked amazing and their breakfast menu looked promising, but told the wife we will find another cafe around the corner.
