Came over for the first time to celebrate my birthday with a few friends. We were meeting for Happy Hour and was surprised how big the lounge area was. There were many large seating area available. One main cedar table was a big attraction. There is a fireplace with a table by it We got a table. I ordered a Borgona, fruit puree juices mix with Sprite. Never had one, but sounded really good. It came and it was delicious and fruity for a mocktail. We ordered a shrimp ceviche and octopus skewers to start out with. The Shrimp Ceviche was very delicious and it was something that I was very happy to share it with my friends. It was a big portion of shrimp cocktail with salsa on the bottom and these large sized blue chips. It was so good that we ate it quickly. Octopus skewers was a tad charred. Yet very delicious especially if you eat it with the pineapple together. Brings out the flavor of the pineapples quite well. We ordered the Pork Belly Tacos and Mole Shrimp Tacos which came in 3. I absolutely loved street tacos filled with good fresh ingredients. And both of these hot the spot. The pork belly was an absolute great flavor of the pork belly. The Shrimp was delicious. Cook perfectly and easy to devour quickly. DeFuego Nachos had Jalapenos. But wasn't listed. The nachos were delicious and it was quickly devoured. Wings came in 4 wings with garlic parmesan with carrots and celery and ranch on the platter. Heavily garlic on the wings yet very delicious. Half wedge salad was a surprise how much there is in the salad. A lot of fresh veggies there with cherry tomatoes and sliced radishes in it. I had a absolutely fun experience celebrating my birthday here. DeFuego had Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, seven days out of the week. Seems the Happy Hour here is very popular. You have 21 appetizers to choose from on the Happy Hour Menu. There are Mocktails, and any drinks you want available. Definitely will come back again. read more

Shoot. Last night I took my boyfriend here to celebrate a special event & we left so disappointed! We got there at 7:15 & we were stuck there for over 2 hours! I ordered 2 things and both came out wrong. Our waitress spoke very loudly and we could hear her having long personal conversations with people a couple tables away from us for 10+ minutes at a time, several times. While we waited for her, we ran out of water a few times and I had to ask for more. It was over an hour before our order was even taken. We did flag her down to order an appetizer, brussel sprouts with cheese on the side due to a dairy allergy, but... the sprouts came out with cheese on them. They corrected this fairly promptly, but then we sat for another 45 minutes before our order was actually taken. I ordered a steak as "somewhere between medium & medium well" and she correctly repeated my order back to me "medium/medium well." When the steak came out, it was WELL well done. Like, burnt. I wanted to send it back, but I didn't want to deal with the embarrassment or have to wait even longer for food. We were about an hour & 45 minutes into dinner by the time we got our food. I was so disappointed! I also wanted to get dessert to celebrate the occasion but the service was SO slow that we had to cancel our after-dinner plans. We ordered it anyway & requested the check promptly, giving up on our plans for the rest of the evening. We were only a party of 2, we arrived early for our reservation, & we watched several larger parties come and go while we waited for our order to even be taken. It was a Wednesday night and not overly busy, there were several empty tables, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. We were also seated at an odd table next to the kitchen with a small divider between us and the staff. It was noisy and I even heard 2 staff members exchange a joke about how someone else had left & said they'd never come back. They laughed about it. I wish I had the guts those people had to get up & leave! I've never once left less than a 20% tip and felt immense guilt not tipping well, but after experiencing the poor service then also hearing the staff blatantly acknowledge it & not care.... I was appalled. The Hilton bought the hotel attached to De Fuego and I'm shocked. This was a Monarch hotel before and I'd assume that the Hilton's standards would be higher but the service and quality here have tanked hopelessly low since the acquisition. I had a similar experience at The Underground before it closed. I've learned my lesson & won't come here for a special occasion again. read more

Dressing was good no complaints I tried the LIME ACHIOTE CHICKEN for $28. Chicken was tasty, though not much there. About a quarter chicken. Vegetable accompaniment was not great. The hubby and I were staying in a hotel just a block or two away from de Fuego and this restaurant was at the top of yelp with. 4.5 rating. It's a tavern located in the Monarch Hotel. Although it was after 6pm on Friday, the happy hour menu was effective and the dinner menu was not available. That was no problem as the happy hour prices were great. For me, I did not order any alcoholic beverages nor a mocktail. Just pork belly tacos and an ice water. Tasty and crunchy yet a little greasy. Hubby got a burger and fries. For the sangria available, it was a mocktail version. Everything was good but, not remarkable. Service was okay too. It was just our server and the bartender working. Not too busy and she seemed to be handling all the customers well indoors and out. Parking is plentiful and free. 3.5 stars overall but rounded down to 3. Just A-OK. read more

As our church group, we've been here before, so I was calling again to make reservation. The staff answering the phone asked me: "Was this for one check?" And I responded with: "there will be 10 of us, and each one will be paying for their own, except three of us. The minute we sat down, I was asked again, "one check? It is our requirement for over 6 to pay in one check." I repeated: "They would want to pay for their own checks, but I'll ask if they want to do that." He also asked me: "Are you celebrating anything?" I said: "Yes, we're celebrating our 51st Wedding Anniversary, and one a birthday." All 9 of us showed up, except one. I mentioned to my guests, over 6 they required only one check. My guests were quite disappointed. If that was such an issue, we would have gone elsewhere! Of course, they weren't listening, and since they all live in different cities, and apartments or retirement homes, many of them DO NOT CARRY CASH! The lunch were enjoyed. The restaurant is so nice! We loved the seating area, we got a booth. Our server was attentive and patient with our party. The food was delicious! My husband and I shared the breakfast asado and the Argentinian sausage was my favorite. The French's toast de coco was sweet but delicious. Food 8/10 Gaucho Bread: the bread was freshly made, perfectly cooked and the chimichuri was fresh, acidic, garlicky and has a bit of heat which was super nice. The bar area was nice and plenty of seats for multiple parties. For drinks, We ordered the grumpy margarita & a Pilsner. The grumpy margarita was delightful with a moderate sweetness and a little spice! For a starter, we had the bone marrow bread and ordered a side of chimichurri. Each slice just melted in your mouth. We practically finished the whole loaf before our entree came out. For our main course, we chose the paradilla argentine asado platter (feeds 4). Each meat that came on the platter was cooked to perfection and the sauces/veggies that came complimented the dish. For a party of two, we only were able to make a small dent and happily came home with plenty of leftovers! Overall, i can't be happier to have found this restaurant. Tried the Happy Hour and was quite astonished at the quality quantity and reasonable price. Service was great and they they had my favorite IPA -Boneyard RPM. Octopus was perfectly cooked and delicious-they can do without the pineapple but that's just me. Steak bites was tender and the chimichuri sauce outstanding. I wanted some place special to take a friend out to lunch for her birthday. Neither one of us had been here before but the online menu sounded good so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed! I had the Mesa Brunch Burger with bacon jam, garlic aioli, smoked gouda and a fried egg on a brioche bun, served with house potatoes. My friend had the Smoked Ham Benedict served on a croissant with poached eggs, hollandaise and house potatoes. Both were delicious and perfectly cooked. Parking is plentiful and easy to find as the restaurant is located inside the Monarch Hotel. Service was attentive and our classes were kept full. We made a last minute reservation to come by when we realized we only had 1 kid for the night! We called ahead to make the reservation but when we arrived they couldn't find our name. Luckily the woman who talked to us overheard and came by and offered to put us in her section even though it was overly full, because the reservation didn't record correctly. Probably my go to steak restaurant in the Portland area that consistently delivers a really good food for a reasonable price. Yes they're definitely our fancier or nicer quality steak restaurants out there but this one you can't go wrong with. They're usually not too busy and you can get in the same night unlike other places where you have to book in advance. Really cute restaurant great for families or if you want to do something a bit more romantic. Honestly, though it is a steak restaurant it has probably one of my favorite salads in the city. We celebrated a birthday at de Fuego as we've never been here before. The place is very upscale in an old-fashioned way. You go in, and you're met with ceiling windows that radiate through the room. The place was filled with people and enjoying their foods and company. We had a range of different dishes including the meat board and prosciutto. The meat board came with steak, potatoes, bacon, sausages, etc - covering all the bases for meat. The place is upscale, as mentioned, which means that their prices are a little high. Let me start off by saying i used to be in love with the De Fuego mac and cheese. It was literally the best mac and cheese i've ever had in my entire life. Well not anymore. I picked up two orders yesterday(which let me tell you is $33) and it was not the de fuego mac i know and love. It tasted completely different and didn't have nearly as much creamy goodness as it used to. It was the most mediocre tasting mac and cheese. I am so disappointed. I don't know if this is because Hilton took over or if de fuego changed the recipe but I just want to say how incredibly disappointed I am. I always make sure to make a reservation in advance so honestly I'm not too sure how quick it is to get in when you just do a walk in. Inside is nicely decorated, I like the restaurant ambiance very jazzy laid back with the dim lights. The staff are friendly and provides good hospitality, food comes out fast every item was just chef kiss. Ordered: Steak Frites 10oz we got medium rare, it comes with fries I should've just gotten it rare, it wasn't as tender as I thought. Fuego Mac was delicious the small sweetie drop pepper was such an amazing add on, this combo was something I've never had before. Jamon Burrata- is a must get dish trust me! This is an elevated salad with aged Spanish ham with 2 pc of fried crostini, I wish I could just get their recipe for the marinated heirloom tomatoes. I will always order this dish every time I'm here! Bone Marrow Bread- whole French baguette dipped in bone marrow butter yes it can be a greasy but this is a good starter dish to share with your table, it's one of the crowd favorite. We showed up at lunchtime - just about noon. We waited at the check-in podium for about 10 minutes. No one came to greet us. We walked into the restaurant and looked around. There were no employees to be seen. There were only three groups seated at tables and we noticed none of them had food. We decided to step next door to the bar (there was a sign suggesting there was open seating in the bar.) We walked around a bit and finally settled into a booth. We waited to be acknowledged but again there were no employees to be seen. My husband found the menus and brought us two of each. We sat and sat and sat and finally an employee walked into the seating area. She checked on two of the tables spending a considerable amount of time at each. She never acknowledged us and walked back behind the bar. We decided that wasn't a good sign so we stood up and started walking out. As we were leaving she looked at us as if she was just heading our way. By this time we had been in the bar for at least 10 minutes and we had already decided to cut our losses and drive to another restaurant. What a disappointment! It's a bit pricey, but totally worth the experience. The interior of the restaurant is so cool - there's ambient lighting and plants all around. The service was a little lacking, but it also seemed as if there was only one server for all the tables on a Friday night. They did, however, bring me a free birthday dessert when my husband mentioned we were celebrating! The food is intended to be more family style for dinner, but that can be a little difficult for my husband and I because we have different diets. I ordered the Brazilian Salmon, as I was craving a really nicely cooked salmon for dinner and this met my expectations. It was cooked perfectly, had excellent flavor, and the risotto was a great, creamy contrast. We got a side of the Asado vegetables, which were grilled and just perfectly seasoned. I honestly could've just eaten a whole plate of them! We also tried the Jalapeño grit fritters and totally enjoyed them. They weren't too spicy, but very flavorful. They did have a similar texture inside to the risotto, though, so it was a bit much for me to have both.
