I usually avoid hotel restaurants but the client I was visiting said this place was really good, without knowing I was staying there The place is down stairs from the lobby and it's dark and cool. Took a seat at the bar and was greeted promptly. Looked over the menu and decided on the smoked angels envy old fashioned. It was happy hour so I got the half wedge salad. Was not a traditional wedge but was really good. For my main I got the lomo saltado, mole rubbed steak tips with onions, peppers, French fries over rice. Was a wild mix of stuff. Steak pieces were pretty small but full of flavor and the sauce over the whole thing was delicious. Was worried the fries would be soggy but the sauce made them better. Sopped up the sauce with the rice and fries. Amazing. Asked for a margarita to go with the meal, seemed appropriate. OK, this place was AMAZING. I'll get to the reason they got four stars in a second, but everything else was honestly fantastic. It's a beautiful restaurant, we had a large party seated by the window, and our server was SO fun. Everyone was incredibly sweet, and the service was perfect. It was also close to my birthday, and they ended up singing to me twice because our server didn't know the first time! They even brought me a complimentary cake, so it made for such a fun memory. Food-wise, the burrata needed a little more balsamic, but the empanadas were a 10/10, the sauces were amazing, and I loved the fried grit fritters and bread. The drinks were also SO good. Our entire group became obsessed with the Coco No Loco and kept ordering them all night! Unfortunately, my steak was where they lost the star. It was SO tough and honestly difficult to chew. The flavor was also spicier than I expected, but that part is on me! I think they may have just had an off night with the steak, because everything else was incredible. Unfortunately, our experience was pretty disappointing from start to finish. I ordered a sangria, and when it finally arrived after quite a wait, it tasted basically like fruit punch. I mentioned to another employee that I didn't think there was any alcohol in it and that it didn't seem like a sangria. He said he would get our waitress. About 15 minutes later, she finally came over, and when I asked about the drink, she told me it was actually a mocktail sangria. That was never made clear when I ordered it--I thought I was ordering an actual sangria. Since I already had the drink, I asked for a shot of vodka to add to it. Between the mocktail and the vodka, I ended up paying $27 for a drink that wasn't even what I thought I had ordered. The service continued to be extremely slow. Our food was delivered, but our waitress didn't check on us for around 15 minutes. By that point, our food was getting cold. We had asked for salt and pepper and received two salts but no pepper. When she finally returned with my vodka, we had to ask again for the pepper. We decided to order dessert and chose what was described as Black Forest cake. Unfortunately, it was another disappointment. It tasted more like something you would pick up from a grocery-store bakery than a restaurant dessert and wasn't what I expected from a Black Forest cake. It had a cherry on top and layers with cherries in the middle, which also wasn't mentioned when we ordered it. Overall, the biggest issues were the very slow and inattentive service, the confusion over the drink, the $27 cost after having to add alcohol to what I thought was already an alcoholic sangria, and a disappointing dessert. We got the Fettuccine Alfredo and Argentine Asado. It is a bit pricey, but honestly, the asado plate was a 10/10. The platter was absolutely delicious and easily the highlight of our meal. One main cedar table was a big attraction. There is a fireplace with a table by it We got a table. I ordered a Borgona, fruit puree juices mix with Sprite. Never had one, but sounded really good. It came and it was delicious and fruity for a mocktail. We ordered a shrimp ceviche and octopus skewers to start out with. The Shrimp Ceviche was very delicious and it was something that I was very happy to share it with my friends. It was a big portion of shrimp cocktail with salsa on the bottom and these large sized blue chips. It was so good that we ate it quickly. Octopus skewers was a tad charred. Yet very delicious especially if you eat it with the pineapple together. Brings out the flavor of the pineapples quite well. We ordered the Pork Belly Tacos and Mole Shrimp Tacos which came in 3. I absolutely loved street tacos filled with good fresh ingredients. And both of these hot the spot. The pork belly was an absolute great flavor of the pork belly. The Shrimp was delicious. Cook perfectly and easy to devour quickly. DeFuego Nachos had Jalapenos. But wasn't listed. The nachos were delicious and it was quickly devoured. Wings came in 4 wings with garlic parmesan with carrots and celery and ranch on the platter. Heavily garlic on the wings yet very delicious. Half wedge salad was a surprise how much there is in the salad. A lot of fresh veggies there with cherry tomatoes and sliced radishes in it. I had a absolutely fun experience celebrating my birthday here. DeFuego had Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, seven days out of the week. Seems the Happy Hour here is very popular. Shoot. Last night I took my boyfriend here to celebrate a special event & we left so disappointed! We got there at 7:15 & we were stuck there for over 2 hours! I ordered 2 things and both came out wrong. Our waitress spoke very loudly and we could hear her having long personal conversations with people a couple tables away from us for 10+ minutes at a time, several times. While we waited for her, we ran out of water a few times and I had to ask for more. It was over an hour before our order was even taken. We did flag her down to order an appetizer, brussel sprouts with cheese on the side due to a dairy allergy, but... the sprouts came out with cheese on them. They corrected this fairly promptly, but then we sat for another 45 minutes before our order was actually taken. I ordered a steak as "somewhere between medium & medium well" and she correctly repeated my order back to me "medium/medium well." When the steak came out, it was WELL well done. Like, burnt. I wanted to send it back, but I didn't want to deal with the embarrassment or have to wait even longer for food. We were about an hour & 45 minutes into dinner by the time we got our food. I was so disappointed! I also wanted to get dessert to celebrate the occasion but the service was SO slow that we had to cancel our after-dinner plans. We ordered it anyway & requested the check promptly, giving up on our plans for the rest of the evening. We were only a party of 2, we arrived early for our reservation, & we watched several larger parties come and go while we waited for our order to even be taken. It was a Wednesday night and not overly busy, there were several empty tables, so I'm not sure what the hold up was. We were also seated at an odd table next to the kitchen with a small divider between us and the staff. It was noisy and I even heard 2 staff members exchange a joke about how someone else had left & said they'd never come back. They laughed about it. I wish I had the guts those people had to get up & leave! I've never once left less than a 20% tip and felt immense guilt not tipping well, but after experiencing the poor service then also hearing the staff blatantly acknowledge it & not care.... I was appalled. The Hilton bought the hotel attached to De Fuego and I'm shocked. This was a Monarch hotel before and I'd assume that the Hilton's standards would be higher but the service and quality here have tanked hopelessly low since the acquisition. I had a similar experience at The Underground before it closed. I've learned my lesson & won't come here for a special occasion again. read more

The hubby and I were staying in a hotel just a block or two away from de Fuego and this restaurant was at the top of yelp with. 4.5 rating. It's a tavern located in the Monarch Hotel. Although it was after 6pm on Friday, the happy hour menu was effective and the dinner menu was not available. That was no problem as the happy hour prices were great. For me, I did not order any alcoholic beverages nor a mocktail. Just pork belly tacos and an ice water. Tasty and crunchy yet a little greasy. Hubby got a burger and fries. For the sangria available, it was a mocktail version. Everything was good but, not remarkable. Service was okay too. It was just our server and the bartender working. The bar area was nice and plenty of seats for multiple parties. For drinks, We ordered the grumpy margarita & a Pilsner. The grumpy margarita was delightful with a moderate sweetness and a little spice! For a starter, we had the bone marrow bread and ordered a side of chimichurri. Each slice just melted in your mouth. We practically finished the whole loaf before our entree came out. For our main course, we chose the paradilla argentine asado platter (feeds 4). Each meat that came on the platter was cooked to perfection and the sauces/veggies that came complimented the dish. For a party of two, we only were able to make a small dent and happily came home with plenty of leftovers! Overall, i can't be happier to have found this restaurant. I had the Mesa Brunch Burger with bacon jam, garlic aioli, smoked gouda and a fried egg on a brioche bun, served with house potatoes. My friend had the Smoked Ham Benedict served on a croissant with poached eggs, hollandaise and house potatoes. Both were delicious and perfectly cooked. Parking is plentiful and easy to find as the restaurant is located inside the Monarch Hotel. Service was attentive and our classes were kept full. The dining room is spacious and clean, a nice bright inviting place to eat a meal. We made a last minute reservation to come by when we realized we only had 1 kid for the night! We called ahead to make the reservation but when we arrived they couldn't find our name. Luckily the woman who talked to us overheard and came by and offered to put us in her section even though it was overly full, because the reservation didn't record correctly. Yes they're definitely our fancier or nicer quality steak restaurants out there but this one you can't go wrong with. They're usually not too busy and you can get in the same night unlike other places where you have to book in advance. Really cute restaurant great for families or if you want to do something a bit more romantic. Honestly, though it is a steak restaurant it has probably one of my favorite salads in the city. The place was filled with people and enjoying their foods and company. We had a range of different dishes including the meat board and prosciutto.
