The combination of ingredients was thoughtful. The mahi mahi is a must! The hamachi appetizer was right up our alley of taste and appreciation. Spicy Kung pao cauliflower - fantastic! Definitely order. Great flavor, texture, sauce. Balsamic glaze Brussels - tasty although watch out for those pork belly fat pieces, neither of us cared for that. It made the dish unnecessarily greasy and they didn't add any flavor or texture that enhanced the dish. Confetti of lentils - five stars! Superb flavor for everything. Lentils were awesome and the red peppers had a smokey vinegar flavor which reminded me of pizza! Would absolutely order again. Black Cod special - unfortunately we were very disappointed with this one! For the $38 price tag you get a speck of fish, which was cooked to perfection but poor flavor, and the edemame puree didn't help mask it. The bar has an awesome atmosphere too. Especially once it gets dark outside the mood of the bar becomes even more intimate and inviting. View is stunning in the daytime so you can't go wrong anytime of day. Janice was a peach as a server and Molly the manager was a doll to work with with our gift card hiccup. Overall I give this a 4.5 but was happy to round up to a five. The food at Five Spice was absolutely amazing -- beautifully plated and full of flavor. Every dish we had was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. If we were rating on food alone, this would easily be a 5-star review. Unfortunately, the service was a major letdown and really overshadowed the experience. Our server was an older lady and she never refilled our waters or drinks. When it came time for dessert, we were simply handed menus without being asked if we were even interested. At a fine dining restaurant, that's just not the level of service you expect. What really stood out was watching the table behind us get asked -- halfway through their main course -- if they'd like to order a soufflé early due to the prep time. We weren't offered the same courtesy, so we ended up waiting longer than we should have. We brought our in-laws visiting from Connecticut and were hoping to give them a memorable dining experience. While the food delivered, the lack of attentive service was disappointing and left us feeling like an afterthought. Great kitchen. Disconnected front of house. Went for lunch. Got the squid and Brussels sprouts as appetizers as well as the blackened salmon salad for the meal. We enjoyed everything that we got. We enjoyed the pairing of the Brussels sprouts and the vinaigrette/pork belly bits and the squid was crusted and calamari like served with a spicy mayo sauce. Salmon was flavorful and cooked well, salad could have been better if it had an assortment of greens it was mostly spinach. Service was friendly, nice views of the water it being on the second level. First impression of Five Spice when eating at 5: there are a lot of seniors haha. Toward the end of our meal, our poor server had to deal with a group of older ladies trying to blame her for something but she handled it patiently and professionally in the best way possible. This was my first time trying sturgeon and it has a chicken consistency. It didn't really taste like anything but the pepper and buttery carmelized mushroom and onions made the fish better. Ive never had a wild rice risotto and it wasn't too much. Stuffed salmon: can't taste the Brie much but the crab flavor was rlly good. Crispy rolls were fine. Thanks to the team at 5 spice for a wonderful final evening of 2024. I really enjoyed my Steve McQueen cocktail and Starburst IPA. What a combo! While service and mixology by Jennifer was memorable and would make me return to the bar, I do have some thoughts of the food. The shrimp cocktail was perfect as is. The ahi poke was kind of skimp on the fish. Delicious - but mostly avocado. My seafood stew could use a more memorable broth. A little bland. My wife loved her Scallops and it was awesome how the food runner specifically listed what was not gluten free when dropping off our dishes. All in all the interior and vibe is very charming to keep your partner or friends impressed and thankfully it's not too loud. We will def return. We selected a Pinot Noir expertly recommended by our server, & each had a glass. It complimented the meal wonderfully. Though we did not need it, we had vanilla ice cream drizzled with Frangelico OMG. I love the Five Spice ambience. It's set Qqup to be warm and cozy, of course other diners are close by, but the tables are situated to be unobtrusive. The open kitchen is divine. The wait was a bit long but we didn't have a reservation. We did get an outdoor table on their balcony. Perfect!!! It was a sunny and the view was beautiful. The wait staff were kind and attentive. The food was prepared fairly quickly. The star of all of our dishes was the train tail lobster. Our first had never eaten lobster. She was amazed at the flavor. The lobster was perfectly cooked, tender. The bitter sauce was warmed and a great compliment to the lobster. The rest of our dishes were good but not great. For the price I will not return. I think for equivalent cuisine there are less expensive and tastier options, including the lobster dinner. read more

We visit lake Oswego for a few weeks each summer and discovered Five Spice several years ago. At first, we were afraid that it was a typical Asian Fusion saucy restaurant, but we gave it a try, and we were very surprised by the food quality and friendly service. This year, we were traveling with a dog and had do take-out. The staff was extremely nice and helped set us up outside at Pizzeria sul Lago. Our order was brought down to us and we were feeling great. It was a beautiful evening. That changed quickly as we bit into the prawns which were more like medium shrimp than prawns. They were rubbery and tasteless. The Ahi was also tasteless and a little off texture. The sauce which should be light or unnecessary was overpowering. We threw most of the food away and skipped ordering any more food. It was a tough situation to complain about, so we left Millennium Plaza disappointed and still hungry. read more

This gem can be found in downtown Lake Oswego just off Main Street, although you do need to look for it as it's a bit hidden. Once you find it, it's easy to remember and parking is great. Happy Hour is a really great time to check it out for a first try but I guarantee you will go back again and again. The food is abundant, delicious, and super reasonably priced. Service is exceptional. Do make a reservation though and request a view of the Lake, which is lovely regardless of the season. Food: the Happy Hour salad of mixed greens is ample enough to share, the warm bread and butter is a must, the shrimp/prawn appetizer is also shareable, though you might want to keep it to yourself! Overall nicely executed food and good location but cold service and stodgy ambiance led to a mixed experience. We had a recent holiday dinner here (with reservations) and were seated promptly. However, our server took her time taking our drink orders and we noticed other tables seated after us being attended to first. In any event, the food generally made up for the uneven and cold service. We tried the calamari to start and it was pretty good--was just tender enough to suggest it wasn't frozen. I had the diver scallops, which came on a bed of mushrooms and sautéed spinach. It was supposed to come with a citrus drizzle, but it must have been left out because the dish sorely needed some acidity to break up the earthiness of other ingredients. My wife had mahi-mahi with sweet potato mash and mango which was vibrant and really nice. For dessert was a satisfying bread pudding. The restaurant was situated in a really nice spot downtown overlooking the plaza and lake. The clientele here appeared to be largely local seniors (in our mid 40s, we were easily the youngest in the dining room that night) giving the place a stodgy country club feel. Met a friend for happy hour and was seated in the covered patio. It has heaters and was tented so it was fairly warm for a cold February evening. Ordered the spring rolls, chicken satay, coconut shrimp, and Pinot Grigio. One great thing is the HH prices. The food was good and no one else was seated in our area so it was nice to be able to talk with each other uninterrupted. Tonight we had dinner at 5 spice with my husband and his work colleagues. We arrived with our reservation not on their calendar. After several on line verifications that it was made we were seated. Service was slow... busy Saturday night. They had a table but went back and forth about the validity of our reservation. I ordered the seafood stew. The lobster claw in my stew was so rancid I fought every urge not to throw up on the bite of it. I bb had to bring it to the kitchen because our waitress never checked back. What a lovely dinner! Started with the Coconut Kamikaze (omg, SO good!). Had some appetizers (crispy spring rolls, calamari, & coconut shrimp) So many dinner options looked amazing but I went with the Butter Salad (if you don't like blue cheese & onion, don't bother! Fortunately I love both!) and Crab Cakes (after 3 apps, I was full!). Both were delicious. My SiL had the potato leak soup that she said it "might have changed my life"! One of the best (if not the best) happy hour in lake Oswego! The food is so good and the views are an added bonus.

My wife loved her food, however my salmon initially came out incredibly overdone. When I asked my server if I could get a new fillet, a new one came out in less than 5 minutes with no seasoning and extremely underdone (nearly raw in the middle). Our server did her best, but for $45- this salmon was not up to par. This was our first time here so this was not the experience we were hoping for. Friends had the Stuffed Salmon which was quite good (no leftovers!!!). I went small with the Ahi Tuna Poke with Taro Root Chips (in a taro root bowl!). Presentation was awesome! We had to ask about the specials vs. being told what they were once we were ready to order. Other tables around us were told the specials without being prompted. In addition upon arrival hostess did not give us dinner menus despite us being there for dinner. She made the assumption that we were there for happy hour only, despite having a reservation for dinner in the dining room. The server allowed us to customize the dish by adding 2 more for our party of 6. Coconut Shrimp - 6 pcs, crunchy with a yummy sauce Stuffed Salmon - delicious with brie inside, on top of mashed potatoes and asparagus. A big portion. Seafood Stew - spicy and tasty, mussels, squid, salmon, and shrimp Souffle - the pièce de résistance. If you love chocolate, get the chocolate souffle. This is the worst upscale meal I have had in years. The service was terrible. Although the restaurant was almost empty and many staff were talking to their friends, we were ignored. I ordered King Salmon. It tasted like it had been 10 years since the salmon had seen the water. Perhaps they bring in the fish pre-sous-vided, let it sit in the freezer and fride for months and then just throw it on the grill for a minute. Everything else tasted like mush as well.
