We sat at the bar. Just needed a quick dinner. The service was very slow, not the bar tenders fault, as he was also trying to make all of the drinks for the dining area. The chicken enchiladas were full of fresh chicken, however, it was extremely bland. Even the enchilada sauce didn't have much flavor. The beans were ok. The chimichanga was basically just as boring. Very little flavor and just chicken. The positive was the shredded chicken was plentiful. Salas was pretty good. Chips were the thicker corn style. Which personally are not my favorite. There are some hits and some misses on the happy menu. I'd recommend the tacos, elotes, and the margs especially their tamarindo marg. Their HH prices were very reasonable and their HH hours were convenient. Service was great, the bartender took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. It would be a struggle to find a more bland tasting Mexican dish than the burrito enchilada combination plate I ordered. No amount of salt pepper or salsa really improved what was a truly underwhelming dish. The enchilada had one ingredient inside: meat. And the burrito was pretty much the same. No salsa, sour cream, or guacamole or lettuce or onions anywhere. And the amount of greasy processed orange cheddar they cover their dishes with should be illegal. There is a reason the plates are 250 degrees when they come out! That amount of cheese would harden instantly if the plate was room temperature. Oh boy--I really wanted to love this place. The vibe is great, the music is fun, and the staff is incredibly kind. We saw beautiful, generous plates coming out of the kitchen, and our server was truly wonderful--she handled our concerns with so much grace. Now for the not-so-great part: the bathroom was out of toilet paper and paper towels, which was a rough first impression. We ordered fresh-squeezed skinny margaritas, but they originally came with a premade mix--not what we asked for. To her credit, our amazing server personally remade them from scratch, and they were perfect the second time! We only ordered one appetizer, but it was super tasty. My wife and I were impressed with every aspect of our visit to Mezcaluna, from seating, to service, to the meal itself. Our server, Miguel, who my wife recognized as someone she had worked with as a server many years ago, was attentive, friendly and personable, even before their mutual familiarity was recognized. Shrimp tacos for her, ribeye tacos for me, and a margarita each makes for an excellent lunch, but the size of these puppies was such that neither of us could finish our meals, meaning we also had them for dinner. #humblebrag Our margaritas were similarly fantastic, although my wife and I ended up switching my spicy marg for her hibiscus mezcal marg, as she had overestimated her taste for mezcal, whereas I enjoy it FAR more than tequila, but this preference is due to personal taste, and not a slight against the quality of the mezcal, or the drink itself. One more object of (positive) note is the complimentary cantina salsa is pretty darn awesome, and likely solely responsible for neither of us being able to finish our entrées. The only complaint I would levy against Mezcaluna would be that, in keeping with its image as an "upscale" Mexican eatery, the prices of just about everything was also "upscaled", so keep that in mind when looking for budget dining options around Clackamas Town Center. Finding notable Mexican restaurants, meaning those that I would actively seek out again in the future over others, is pretty rare, but Mezcaluna is definitely poised near the top of my very limited list, and we wouldn't hesitate to return again for another crack at the menu, and branching out into other favorites beyond the safety of tacos as a comfort food. read more

I don't often eat Mexican in upscale eateries but when I do, I'm often disappointed. It started out well with a pork belly appetizer to die for, amazing queso, and tableside made guacamole! However, the main courses were at best mediocre and several were barely edible. I had the quesabirria and it was easily the worst I've ever had. Really dry and barely any char marks on the dry tortilla and only a couple table spoons of broth... maybe a quarter cup. Rice was served in dry clumps that looked as if it was scooped out of a cold hotel pan and microwaved for 10 seconds (barely warm on the outside and cold in the middle). The beans were straight cold... someone forgot to nuke ma beans! To top it all off, service was awful! I've never seen such slow service. If not for the amazing apps, this place is straight up a 2... but apps and what looked to be amazing cocktails keep this place above ground. Go here for happy hour or light meals of appetizers. Move over, every other brunch spot -- we've found the one. This restaurant just rolled out a Sunday buffet brunch, and honestly... we may never recover (in the best way). Picture this: authentic Mexican dishes that taste like someone's abuelita made them with love , plus all the classic breakfast staples that make you feel cozy and nostalgic . It's basically like two brunches in one. And then... bottomless mimosas for $16. SIXTEEN. Had a great brunch today! Mindy found MEZCALUNA in Happy Valley, in the Clackamas Town Center complex. It starts at 10:00am. They have had a mexican brunch buffet for the last 4 months, a bit spendy at $40 but so worth it! Longer travel time for us, but enjoyed the ride. Everything was so fresh and delicious, and the service was amazing! You can have items off of their brunch menu which are included, some are made tableside. If you are into it, they offer all you can drink mimosas for $16 extra. Your usual beverages come with the brunch. Wonderful hand made flour and corn tortillas! Hope you can try it out! First time here. Friend I met with recommended this place as she lives nearby. She has been beee several times. The margaritas were really good. Nachos were very flavorful. Meat was cooked perfectly. We had a wonderful dinner at Mezcaluna last night, sharing good food and laughter with friends. The energy here is vibrant and welcoming. We started with the tableside guacamole, which felt like a little ritual in itself. You get to choose your own ingredients--ours had just the right balance of lime, tomato, and a hint of pepper heat. Fresh, flavorful, and fun to watch come together. We also shared the queso, which was creamy, rich, and absolutely divine. For my main, I had the chile relleno, and I have to say, it might be one of the best in Portland. Paired it with a house margarita that was strong, citrusy, and delicious--just how I like it. I was impressed with the service! The complementary chips and salsa were brought to the table within 2 minutes after I sat down. Throughout out dinner, Melissa, our server was so attentive, yet didn't rushed us to order since we weren't really hungry. I got the Mango Ceviche Shrimp, $18 and the Virgin Pina Colada, $8. The ceviche portion was big enough to share between my friend and I. I prefer fish ceviche but was surprised how decent this shrimp ceviche marinated and tasted even though it was a bit on a chewy texture for me. My Pina Colada was a bit on the sweet side for me so I didn't much care for it and barely touched it. My friend got the Elote, $10 and Big Luna Margarita Rocks $17. The Elote was served on the iron cask but it didn't taste like it was cooked in it. The sauce and spice were balanced well so not bad at all and the wedge of squeezed lime added that oozy flavor. It's a casual and enough space in and outside sitting to still provide that comfort with privacy at your table. The cover outside sitting was perfect for our dinner tonight without the fireplace being on. It's definitely a fun place to casually hangout with friends. I visited around 5pm with friends, and my experience with our server, Amy C, was very disappointing. I asked if the pork fajitas were pulled pork and was told no, so I ordered it. 5 mins later another (very kind) server explained it actually was pulled pork. Since I don't like it, I immediately tried to change to chicken. I even waited in front of the kitchen, but Amy was in the restroom and the server i talked to can't even to help to change the order. When she returned, instead of fixing the order, she said it was "too late" and added, "next time, let me know earlier," even though she was unavailable. She later said, "I'm being nice to you, I have many tables," she is lying she went to the restroom and other server not help to change the order of her table which felt dismissive and unprofessional. At the end She switched the order for me from pork to chicken but her lack of menu knowledge and poor attitude left me uncomfortable. The food itself was excellent, but service like this ruins the entire dining experience. Good customer service should mean teamwork, respect, and accurate information. We sat on the covered patio but they also have outdoor dining as well as bar seating and comfortable dining room as well. My wife tried the skinny margarita and said it was one of the best ever. Now they're on my clock. 8 minutes go by before our other dinners arrive and we asked the server for silverware. 4 minutes later they arrived at our table with plastic to go silverware and say they are washing the silverware. Now we eat lukewarm dinners! Two of us had the Carne AsAda burritos and one had carne and mine was nothing but rice and black beans. One of us ordered Al Pastor Taco dinner and received steak tacos. Now you'll ask why didn't you tell your waiter or server. Yeah good luck their no where to be found. Their working out on the street in front of the restaurant. On a Friday night it was hopping, thankfully we had reservations which I highly recommend any time you plan on eating here. Maybe it was the crowd or the overall challenge with hiring a wait staff post covid, but our service was definitely lacking. The runner brought warm chips and salsa quickly, and our waiter did come to our table to take drink orders, but after that, we had to frantically wave and call to her loudly to get her attention. She walked right by us so many times as we tried to flag her down to place a to go order and to get out check. Chips and salsa were good. They have many varieties of margaritas and the alcohol is very apparent from the first sip. I had a spicy margarita and it was quite good. For dinner I had the chicken enchiladas suiza which was two enchiladas with rice and I chose black beans. The enchiladas were so salty that it distractEd from all the other flavors. Inside was chunks of chicken breast that were on the dry side. Others at my table ordered a steak salad and the carne asada plate, both looked good and were better choices. They both had been there before so probably knew what to order. Important to mention, almost the entire restaurant is high top tables so if this is not comfortable for you, know this going in. There are a few tables inside with regular height chairs, but not many. For me this was a huge challenge as I am recovering from hip replacement surgery and my feet need to be on the ground. I lasted about an hour and had to call it a night. If my friends were meeting there again, I would go for the social aspect and woukd order one of their salads. Really cool establishment that has popped into town. Entrance is impressive with the flames at the doorway. Nice high vaulted ceilings with muted lighting create a really intimate but sophisticated atmosphere. Server was great with dealing with our large table. Orders were all done correctly and service was timely. The flaming presentation for the fajitas was pretty impressive. Food and drinks were great. Everything was well seasoned and satiating. They kept the chips & salsa coming which I always appreciate. I like the outside seating on a nice sunny day, but I took off one star for the sort of cramped seating arrangement & the fact that every surface felt pretty dirty.
