This is not about their work, it's about their attitude. My neighbor contracted them to put in a sidewalk. Without telling anyone, they took out eight bean vines and four tomato plants. I could have stuck them in pots but it was already too late by the time I found out. I was able to save a blueberry plant that they had buried. One of their machines fell into my yard scooping out a 8 inch section. "We didn't hit anything but the ground," said the driver. No apology was offered. The one star reviews are right on the spot about what the company is. NO INTEGRITY! Just check your warranty section of their quote. Essentially they are not responsible for anything they do. BE AWARE BEFORE YOU SIGN! The sales guy Jesus is knowledgeable, sincere. He understands all my needs and concerns about concrete product and provides solutions. He is also very responsive. He is the reason I decided to go with De Vega Concrete. I modified their proposal to clarify exact what needs to be done in bullet points followed by details. Reversed the warranty term to protect me rather than them. A warranty of 12 months as Jesus agreed verbally with me. The owner Fidel came out to finalize the details of the contract. So far so good. On the starting day, Jesus and I went through the bullet points again and gave them the check for one half of the balance as agreed. The crews came and setup the frames quite efficiently. Nice people and seems to know what they are doing. Throughout the course, I was quite annoyed by the constant negative talks by the "foreman". But he does seems to know the trade. As things moving forward, he keeps mentioning this and that for additional cost. Finally I told him not to worry about it. All these have been agreed between me and Jesus. He said Jesus works for him. Then I realized he was Fidel, the owner, in work cloth. I asked him what was the problem. There was no change of the plan. We went through the details no less 5 times between me and Jesus and him. Everything they were working on were what we had discussed and agreed. First he said his quote was not in scale. But they had the official survey of my property, the landscaping blueprint by a professional landscaping designer. They took the measurement themselves on site as well. In the end he agreed that we had verbal agreement on all the things he brought up but they were not on the paper, exact to the letter. And he wanted me to listen to his explanations and pay more. I told him either finish the job as specified on the contract or pack up and leave my property. They cashed my first down payment of $800 for demolish my existing walkways, but never returned my $4000 check as he said he would. Well, I know how much I can trust his words. Deserves zero or negative stars but looks like you have to give at least 1 star. Well this is the worst concrete contractor ever. Run as fast as you can to someone who is reputable and backs their work because Fidel and De Vega Concrete do not back their work. The 'new' $7,500 driveway he and his crew poured began deteriorating within the first 6 months and his Terms and Conditions relieve him of any responsibility. DO NOT HIRE DEVEGA CONCRETE. They do not know how to correctly pour and finish concrete and they do not stand behind their work. The concrete they placed for me spalled in less than one year, even though it had all summer to set. If you look at the contract they provide, they waive responsibility for defects in the mix delivered. They will hide behind this clause and leave you holding the bag with a poor installation. I am a civil engineer who works with concrete contractors for a living, so it is especially embarrassing to me that this happened but nevertheless STAY AWAY. Here is tidbit from my correspondence with Fidel DeVega: My opinion is that I received a deficient final product. This deficiency was result of improper finishing, curing, or job site modification of the mix. The deficiency was not a result of the supplied mix. Concrete should have excellent resistance to deicing chemicals when installed properly (PCA ISI177). The insinuation that I as the customer am at fault for not providing an optional sealant or for parking my car on the parking pad is really a poor business practice on your part. Pardon the pun but it is like rubbing salt in the wound. Among the Portland Cement Association references that I base my opinion on: PCA ISI177 Concrete Slab surface Defects: Causes , Prevention, and repair "Upon freezing in a saturated condition, weakened mortar layers break away from the aggregate" - Note freezing is the catalyst for the damage, not the cause "Poor finishing can aggravate mortar flaking" "Experience and extensive labratory testing have shown........ concrete will have excellent resistance to surface scaling and mortar flaking due to freezing and thawing and the application of deicer chemicals provided the concrete is properly proportioned, placed, finished and cured" - We know the state approved mix portioned correctly, that only leaves the De Vega's works as the possible cause. "Popouts Causes - do not finish concrete with bleed water on the surface" - also spoke to a materials engineer for an outside opinion and he confirmed adding water to the mix will create excessive bleed water. Reading previous reviews from couple years ago, I was not sure if I should hire this company. We had 3 estimates done - all local companies, and talked to all three of them. De Vega was very professional and went out of their way to explain everything, even the couple of bad reviews they had - without us asking. Make the long story short, we ended up choosing them over the other two companies and we are very happy with the outcome. This was a big job - first a long driveway, patching up a garage concrete and a new sidewalk leading to the house. They did great job, kept us informed of what's going on and it just looks really great. We made sure we didn't use the driveway for the time they said, let it dry completely. they took time to clean up after as well, brought in a truck full of dirt and fill the gaps left on the side of the driveway. I already recommended them to friends and everybody is happy with the job they did. read more

I requested a quote for concrete work on a porch and small walk. Received the quote over the phone, even though I gave out my email and they were going to put a hand written copy in my mail box. I was ok with the price and willing to get the work done asap. But unfortunately my phone calls were never returned. Fast forward a month later. After a call, a apology was given that somehow they forgot about me (and a Job). I was told someone would come back out and give another quote. Now its 10 days later. Well thanks for wasting my time De Vega Concrete! There are allot of other concrete contractors out there! Advice for someone thinking about calling De Vega. Don't waste your time! Terrible Company... No follow thru.. Called more than a dozen times to De Vega for return business to apply sealant. NEVER called back. Extremely Poor Customer service!! The steps I had poured are now cracking.. is guaranteed/ and has a warranty. Have been trying for 6 weeks to get someone to look at steps, and have been stood up 3 times. I have NEVER had such a bad experience with a Company. Would not use, or ever recommend. Owner has even been called, and HE doesn't even take responsibility.. If you need Concrete work done.. Find a different company.. PERIOD!! read more
