Undeniably one of the most popular coffee spot in the area. Great drinks selection from coffee cups to wine glasses. Tried the Hokkaido Cheesecake paired with blended drinks. The staff is efficient and warm to all the customers. It is situated across the Powerplant Mall.

White chocolate cookies and cream shake (175P)

I went to college in Napa and there was a dean and deluca less than 10 minutes away. It was separated into two parts the restaurant part (super expensive) and then the grocery/pastries/gelato part, which is where I would go for an expensive treat. Knowing that there is one here in the Philippines is so shocking! But I'm happy to know I can eat here and it's more affordable haha. I would say I enjoyed my meal a lot. I am so glad I got the white chocolate cookies and cream milk shake! It was delicious. Not too sweet but just right with a good amount of cookies. The sandwich I got was perfect actually, it had all the right flavors, was toasted just right, I really don't have any complaints. The service was good. They filled our waters. Split the bill when we asked. The food was served promptly. I really enjoyed this restaurant and can't wait to come back for their pastries and other dishes. They recommended the Reuben and their baby back ribs. I also got a look at their pizzas...they look so good and are big! They have so many dishes that I want to try. It's weird though, they don't have cupcakes here, but in napa dean and deluca cupcakes were a big thing. Maybe times have changed. I'll be back here soon :)

Undercooked Pasta

Written May 25, 2015 The famous New York gourmet deli /grocery Dean & Deluca recently opened a branch here in Manila! Finally! It's located in Rockwell, just across the street from the Mango at the Powerplant Mall. Of course, being the insatiable foodie that I am, I dragged J along to check it out. I came across a few reviews from other foodies but I came to Dean & Deluca with an open mind, ready to eat. It's Dean & Deluca, so I already mentally prepared myself for the high prices What's Available at Dean & Deluca? The interiors were white & black, evoking no-nonsense New York. There were shelves filled with jams and other goodies. The counters were filled to the brim with breads and cakes. The prices of these jams and sauces ranged from P200+ to P400+. I think the price for the jams are reasonable as far as imported gourmet jams go - they were around P240-P270, if I recall correctly. But I haven't tried them yet, so reserving judgement. Maybe some other time. As much as we wanted to try them all, we were there for lunch. A very late lunch. It was almost 4pm and we were starving! OUR LUNCH ORDERS We decided not to get the pizzas that everyone seems to be ordering and reviewing with mixed results. We just chose what we really wanted to eat. For soup, we ordered the Trio Field Mushroom Soup (P280): Okay, can I say, this is the best mushroom soup ever! Sure, it's almost 300 bucks, but O.M.G. it's the most awesomest mushroom soup ever, ever, ever! I can taste the earthy mushrooms, but they are blended so fine, superfine, I can't even feel a piece of mushroom. The soup is that smooth. And it's also frothy! It's like a mousse, but it's a soup! Taste-wise, it's excellent! I really wanted to lick my soup plate so bad... And isn't that foam heart just too cute? If I am rating this, it's out of the ballpark. 10 out of 5! J wanted the Gratinated Baked Oysters (P325): These oysters are soooooooooo good! Make sure to squeeze the lemon on the oysters! The oysters were fresh and briny, and the chewy melted cheese with the tomato sauce and the lively sourness of the lemon were perfect with it! We both agreed that this dish was worth what we paid for it. We are definitely going back for these oysters! If I were rating, I would give this a 5/5. I chose the Reuben Sandwich (P460): I have never had a real, honest-to-goodness Reuben Sandwich before, but now I have a standard to measure other Reuben Sandwiches against. This sandwich is just a revelation. I never understood why people raved about putting sauerkraut on basically a corned beef sandwich, but now I'm one of them! Those dark maroon slices in the sandwich are not ham, but sliced corned beef! The corned beef was so flavorful that those few slices were enough to flavor the sandwich. I never thought I would like sauerkraut but it just works really well in this sandwich. It tasted a little bit like dry cabbage, but also sort of like cheese. My only complaint is that this sandwich is too small! Hahaha. It's really good but the small portion would be barely enough to feed a regular person for a real meal like lunch. J and I each had 1/2 of the sandwich and it was really bitin (a bit short)! For P460, I would have expected a bigger serving. And J was excited to try the Butifara con Salsa Funghi e Tartufo (P480): Can you tell by now that we seem to have a thing for good mushroom dishes? The sauce and everything else for this dish was excellent - there was sausage meat, there were mushrooms, the sauce was creamy and tasted of truffles. Our problem with this dish was the pasta. I think it was under-cooked. Why. Why. We were on our last dish. Why did we have to encounter a problem? UNDERCOOKED PASTA I don't have a problem with al dente pasta but chewing this pasta was a little bit like chewing cardboard. We didn't want to cause any problems, but after a few bites, I finally had to tell the waiter that I think the pasta was under-cooked. The waiter came back and just told us that the pasta really is supposed to be like that and that it's not under-cooked. He said that was how fresh pasta was like, and it was cooked al dente, and that nothing was wrong with it. But if I wanted to, they could recook our pasta to make it softer. I was thinking, What? They're going to get our half-eaten pasta and recook it? How would that even soften the pasta? Are they going to add water to the sauce and cook it some more? The sauce will be watery then. At this point, I was too afraid of food complications that I just said no. We continued to just eat our pasta and suffer in silence... Anyway, at least the sauce was good... SUMMARY Our bill total was almost P2,000 but it was worth the splurge (except for the pasta problem). VAT is already included in the price and there's a 10% Service Charge. I was actually looking forward to trying some cakes after our meal but we lost the mood... But the rest of the food was awesome! If you are thinking about trying D&D,

Beef tapa bowl with a lychee New York soda
Jonathan T.

The last time I saw a Dean and DeLuca was when I was walking down the streets of SoHo in New York City, so coming across one in my very own backyard instantly put it on my must-try list. Now getting here took some time as I was expecting the same prices as the location in SoHo (₱1000 loaves of bread?!?) but luckily this location is a lot more reasonably-priced. We came here on Sunday after Mass on Easter for brunch and we had no trouble getting seated. The place is amazing inside. Lots of natural light, clean white surfaces and a peep into the kitchen in the background with the delectable desserts in the foreground of the coffee bar. It's in Instagrammer's paradise! I ended up getting the beef tapa bowl with pesto risotto (₱525) and a New York lychee soda (₱120). I thought the tapa was closer to tocino in terms of texture but I really liked its flavor. The rich garlic, sweet soy sauce and hints of onion were undeniably Filipino and the pesto risotto with an egg over easy on top made a perfect bridge between New York City style and Filipino finesse. My soda was great too! Not sweet nor syrupy, and very, very flavorful. Service was great! They happily split our checks (unheard of in the Philippines, normally) and always kept our waters full. I'll definitely be back.

I invited my friends to go with me to Dean and Deluca just to see what the hype was all about. The ambiance was great, the place bright and well-lit -- ideal for studying/working. The second floor looked quite different though. It was void of natural lighting, and dimly-lit. We had the spaghetti and bacon, lasagna, cubano sandwich, and margherita mozza pizza. Among the four dishes we ordered, the pizza was so far the best. It was smothered in fresh mozzarella cheese, yummy tomato sauce, and a few basil leaves. Eating it was quite a spectacle! The spaghetti and bacon tasted just one notch higher than the ordinary carbonara pasta, while the lasagna was a bit too heavy. The cubano sandwich wasn't all that great as well.

Reena G.

Finally, the New York native opened its doors and we can now have a dose of it as we wish. A friend and I decided to grab a bite at 1:30 in the afternoon, thinking there would be more vacant tables. We were bemused to find that there was still a line at the cashier for pastries and other products they has on display. I was delighted to bask in the unusual but tasteful and streamlined look and feel - from the interiors, to the serving ware, to the overall ambience. There was a buzz, but it wasn't chaotic. Just enough for people to talk, but not too loud or busy that one couldn't relax. When our orders arrived, I was honestly expecting my Smoked Salmon Croissant to be a bit bigger, while my friend felt that she wouldn't be able to finish her Cuban Sourdough Sandwich. What we did was we split both sandwiches and "traded halves." The croissant had a good amount of salmon, plus a few greens, thin rings of red onion, a few capers to balance off the taste, and cream cheese to put it all together. The Cuban sourdough sandwich on the other hand was a treat starting from its size, the taste of the bread they use, plus the balance of the ham, cheese, pickles and the other key ingredients. Overall, it was a pleasant afternoon as we were quite satisfied with our meal and experience. Will definitely be back to try their salads, mains, pastries, milkshakes and their selection of fizzy drinks.

Stopped by for an appetizer and a glass of wine around 6:00 pm on a Wednesday. An hour and a half later I'm not impressed. Service evaporated about an hour ago - apparently my server quit or decided she didn't really need to do her job. Strange because there were 5-6 staff standing around doing nothing. Calamari was definitely below average. What a shame - this chain has a pretty good reputation elsewhere. Very likely I won't be back -at any location. Management seems to be completely absent. I doubt this review will result in any kind of change. Good thing there are plenty of other options in Rockwell. Hopefully this prime spot will be occupied by a decent place when this outfit goes out of business. See pic for the completely empty second floor. There's a reason for this.

Facade of D&D

The time I spent in New York was pretty magical. You'd feel the same way if you were a foodie dropped right smack in the middle of one the best food cities in the world. One of the major reasons why New York deserves that label is because of Dean & Deluca, a bakery/cafe/grocery that does their own artisanal goods. When I first found out that Dean & Deluca was opening here, it was safe to say that a lil pee came out of me from the excitement of the news. And when it did finally open, I was not disappointed. The decor is full of New York references yet they welcome some Filipino flavor into their design. If you're a D&D virgin, this is the place where you can find freshly baked bread, pastas, sauces, condiments, meats, and other gourmet delicacies. They have food items that no other stores have, which is something that you have to keep in mind if you're a chef. They also have a breakfast menu, a lunch menu, and a dinner menu. Make sure to bring a full wallet though 'cos you'd be spending some dough to try their stuff. One of the best things that I love in D&D Philippines is that they also offer delicacies kissed with the local Filipino flavor, like their Milk Coated Macapuno Chunks. Take away: foodie's dream house. Kinda expensive though.

Cubano sandwich

The Dean & Deluca restaurant is sight to behold in Rockwell. The interiors of the two floors establishment definitely sells you of the New York fantasy you never knew you had. It's modern and sexy. It's both a bakeshop and restaurant under one roof. The assortment of desserts and pastries is pricey enough to make Eric Kayser feel like French Baker in comparison. We tried the Brownie Cheesecake and the much sought after salted caramel chocolate cake, and both delivered. I prefer the Brownie Cheesecake a bit more since the combination just blended so well. As for the chocolate cake, their version slightly trumps Wild Flour's Valrhona cake and that is saying a whole lot. The cookies are worth a try too! The triple chocolate fudge cookie is gooey and fudgey - just the way I like them. I tried the Cubano sandwich since the waiter mentioned that it is one of their mainstays. The cheese melted on a chicken breast with jalapeños and dijon mustard (not sure but taste like it) sandwiched in a sour dough. It was so filling that I only ate half if it and saved the other half as breakfast the next day. At P460? Maybe I can just have a steak somewhere else. I also ordered the iced cookie butter latte to help digest the Cubano sandwich. That one was pretty good and it's not as sweet as you think! An order of that coffee is P180.Yep, the place is just as pricey as a meal in New York. But it definitely has a market here. Come for the ambiance, stay for the coffee and pastries.

My iced creme brulee was sweeter than I imagined. Definitely sticking to hazelnut or green tea next time

If you're looking for an alternative for the over crowded Starbucks you usually go to, Dean and Delucca is the perfect place for you and your friends. Whether be it for study, work or conversations, the ambiance of this cafe is very relaxing. The design is very modern and lighting is minimal. The drinks are incredibly delicious, and the prices are reasonable when compared to that of Cbtl and Starbucks drinks. Pastries are a bit pricey, comparable with Eric Kayser pastries. Overall, a good place to unwind. Also, extremely smoker friendly. Plus plus plus.

Margherita

Dean & Deluca is cozy and casual for get-togethers. We ordered the Margherita (the sourdough crust is fantastic!), the pumpkin soup can be split into two but it was served cold, the Butifarro truffle pasta was also good but I've tasted a better version, and the coffee and desserts were terrific. Expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for. The servers are friendly.

What I know about Dean & Deluca, I first learned from Felicity. HAHA. It's where Felicity and Ben worked part time while at school in the "University of New York." Later, I realized that it's real and is actually a cafe-slash-bakery-slash-upscale grocery. :3 Here in the Philippines it's set up as a cafe right at the heart of Rockwell Center but they also sell various merchandise and food stuff. They have the distinct plain black and white coffee cups with the clean Dean & DeLuca typeface logo for your coffee. It's still pretty new right now, so the service might be a little below standard with a crew that still appears to be wary sometimes (so your friendly neighborhood Starbucks still takes the cake on that one), but the food and the drinks are worth the temporary fuss. Iced coffee and the lattes are smooth and taste great, none of that kinda sour aftertaste like in other coffee houses. The pastries and pizzas are the clear winner though. You can't let yourself miss a chance to try their "kouign amann," a sweet flaky puff pastry/croissant thing that's perfect for breakfast (or really, anytime of the day). It's also great that they've brought over the "good pizza" rep because what kind of hyped-up New York food place does not have good pizza?? So thankfully, they do. :3 The homemade sausage, olives, and red onion pizza is just perfect!

Honestly, I had no idea this place existed, but luckily was paying attention when our driver drove past and I saw a massive line out the door at 1am. Luck would have it our hotel was just around the corner. We walked by one evening and decided it was way to crowded. With over an hour wait and every table filled we also knew pictures inside would be nearly impossible. With a couple hours to spare the morning we were leaving, we walked over after breakfast to check it out and maybe order something small to share. Of course, the desserts caught our eye and the rest was history. 1 massive dessert later, 2 of us could not finish, but throughly enjoyed every bite we ate. A daytime visit was the best choice. We pretty much had the downstairs to ourselves for pictures and several 2nd floor areas were purposely non-seating areas so patrons could take pictures. I could have spent hours here and would definitely return. The collection is unreal. The 50's vibe/atmosphere was on point, and the dessert (the only food I can judge) was delicious. If we had a place like this in Los Angeles, it would be a total hit.

Loved all the veggies in the sinigang especially the okra & kangkong (watercress/morning glory). This place is great for casual dining and late-night cravings. They have a bar for those who want to enjoy a drink while soaking in the retro aesthetic. I stopped in here twice during my stay in the area. I also tried their chicken & waffle. I personally liked the feel of the place because it was casual but homey at the same time, without being cheesy. With statement posters adorning the walls and chalkboards advertising their specials, I knew I was going to like it here. We decided to share an order of their super duo which had ribs for two and a choice of two side dishes. I was happy to see that they offered spinach as a siding so I got that, while my dad ordered their spiced rice. Goodness gracious, it was good! The meat was tender, almost falling off the bone and their sauce is really good, a good balance of tangy, sweet and smokey flavor. While my Dad got their brewed iced tea, as drink and dessert, I got their chocolate shake which I enjoyed not just because of the taste, but also because of the candy sprinkles and marshmallow toppings. I'm just happy to have stumbled across The Beef a few weeks ago. I've been to Hole in the Wall 2 or 3 times already yet I've never tried The Beef. It's an inconspicuous looking black and gray colored shop with a sign stating "The Beef" overhead. Maybe the reason I overlooked it the first few times I visited. Their menu is intriguing because it consists of only 3 items: burger, cheeseburger and fries. I went ahead and ordered a cheeseburger with fries and waited patiently. Little did I know what was waiting for me when I took my first bite into this burger. The burger is delicious and everything I look for in one: juicy, huge beef flavor and I particularly liked the salty, seared crust on the outside. The bun holding the burger appears to be brioche and is soft and spongy, which absorbs all the juices as you consume it. These 2 components alone make this possibly the best burger I've ever tried in Manila. The burger is also dressed with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and other condiments which only enhance the experience. This thing literally had me daydreaming about it after my first visit and I kept bothering my girlfriend that we had to return and trust me, I will. Pros -One of the best, if not the best, burgers right now in the Metro. -Simple menu. Cons -Pricey. Burger and fries will set you back at least P350. -Fries are meh.
