Dr. Debby Tran has been taking care of my teeth for over 4 years now. I feel so lucky to have found her. I was in disbelief the first time I went in for a regular cleaning to learn that she as the DDS, would be the one actually doing my cleaning and not a dental hygienist. I was also pleasantly surprised to experience an ultrasonic scaler for the first time. I didn't know that was even a thing! I use an ultrasonic toothbrush but never knew that there were dentists out there not using the old school scaler (scrape, scrape, scrape). Being a bit of a nerd, I always ask a lot of questions and she always takes the time to provide me with answers. Every single person that works at this office is wonderful. I started coming here because my husband always came home from his appointments talking about what a great office this was. I finally made the switch to Dr. Paul about three years ago (yes, this review is way overdue) and am so happy that I did. My appointment always starts on time, Dr. Paul does the actual cleaning, makes you feel very comfortable, is gentle and will ask you throughout the cleaning if you're doing okay, remembers little things about you (like my kids and husband) and it's just an overall great experience. The office is very clean with very modern equipment and TVs in all the exam rooms. The office staff is always super friendly too. I like that they call you a few days in advance of your appointment to remind you as well. Always plenty of street parking and it's a block from the beach. Don't forget to check the street sweeping signage so you don't get a citation. read more

I found her on Yelp when I first moved to the South Bay, and when I came across her I figured she would be a great match because of her bubbly and upbeat personality! I still have my wisdom teeth and she suggested I get them removed- and when she found out my best friend was also a dentist she offered to forward over my X-rays to my friend out of state. When my friend took a look and without me saying anything, recommended exactly what Dr.Debby had recommended! Her staff is very friendly, and organized and there's no wait if you have an appointment (which I think you have to have since it's by appointment only). They send you off with a nifty a whole packet of dental goodies (will post photo) as oppose to just a toothbrush! I don't ever use them but I put them in our guest bedrooms and they're great for traveling for emergencies! Always plenty of tree street parking! read more

I recommend anyone seeing Dr Debby Tran to seek a second opinion if she recommends extensive work. I have strong healthy teeth, I had been with my previous dentist for 10 years before she retired. I never had to have major work, no cavities or deep cleanings etc. A friend recommended Dr Tran, and I regret ever seeing her. My first concern was the cleanliness of the office. It's run down and the restroom had long term grime in every crevice. I hadn't been to the dentist in over a year due to needing to find a new dentist and multiple pregnancies. I believe Dr Tran seized the opportunity to recommend a deep cleaning, which would require local anesthesia and multiple visits. She was reluctant to even do the basic cleaning I had booked the appointment for. Like a true salesperson, she asked why I was hesitant when I said I wanted to get a second opinion and an insurance estimate, and kept pushing the treatment. The recommended treatment plan would have been $520. My standard cleaning and X-rays were $205, all covered. I finally was able to find a new dentist who advised that while I had 2 deep pockets they could still be resolved with a standard cleaning. A deep cleaning in my entire mouth could have damaged my gums, and made annual deep cleanings required moving forward. Please make sure to seek a second opinion before agreeing to any invasive treatments with this dentist. read more

There are a lot of dentists that are like car mechanics... they tell you a bunch of sh*t that you "NEED," but deep down inside you feel as though they are trying to rip you off. From the moment you open your mouth, some dentists hear "CHA CHING" because they can twist any little cavity you have into something life threatening in order to get more money. But you won't feel like that with Dr. Paul or Dr. Debby... Speaking from my experience, I have Dr. Paul as my primary dentist, while my sister in law has Dr. Debby as hers... All I can say is that you really get great service and work from these 2 individuals. Both are very professional, honest, classy, but most of all down to Earth the moment you walk through those doors. Maria (the head dental assistant/receptionist) is also another person that makes your experience even more pleasurable and easy. They make sure that they do their best work and are very patient with your concerns and questions. They'll tell you things that you need or don't need because they rely on their honesty for referrals and repeat clients. I had found this dental office through yelp and seeing how they had great reviews decided to give it a try. I went in for a consultation with Dr. Paul Tran and was told that I had a mouthful of cavities and I need to do a bunch of procedures that they estimated to be around $800. I was thrown off, I thought it was odd that I had that many cavities and decided to go see another dentist. I went to the other dentist and he said my teeth were perfect! I didn't have any cavities and my teeth cleaning literally took less than 5 minutes. I even double checked and asked him if he saw any cavities, which he said no. Wether it is a lack of skill, experience or just someone trying to make money, I highly recommend to go get a second opinion or just avoid this office. read more

I have a checkered past with dentists. While in the chair I've been put into choke holds, cursed at, asked to take a dentist's daughter out on a date and had a bloody, extracted tooth end up under my shirt. As a result, I have consciously evaded dentists for the past decade. After biting down on a granola bar on my way to work last week, I experienced some major sensitivity in one of my molars. I might be deathly afraid of dentists, but I'm not stupid enough to ignore pain. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Tran's office and waited nervously for my meeting with (metaphorical) death. To my surprise, I had an amazingly positive experience with Dr. Paul Tran and can't wait to go back to continue my new-found dedication to dental health. That's right; one visit and I'm hooked. All it took was a teeny-tiny office with a beach-like laid back, relaxed environment, plenty of state-of-the-art equipment, a personal TV with which to watch the MLB Postseason and a dentist with a concise and precise communication style that doesn't see you as as his next mortgage payment. The fact that he didn't take my lapse in dental visits as the perfect chance to sell me on every dental procedure known to man was admirable (to say the least!). He suggested that we take care of my 2 cavities in the near future and that he was on the fence about my wisdom teeth. He mentioned that there were advantages to removing them, but he didn't yet feel that it was completely worth the cost, time and effort. He recommended that we keep the issue in mind for future visits, but it definitely wasn't something urgent. How awesome is that? To top it off, Dr. Paul was on top of his game during my cleaning. He alerted me when he got to areas that he thought I might feel discomfort or sensitivity and he checked in with me whenever I made even the slightest flinch. The before and after shots of my cleaning were impressive (that's right, he took photos with his fancy-schmancy dental camera -- I told you they were high-tech!). A smile is never cheap, but Dr. Tran's office will give you plenty of reasons to keep smiling even after you pay the bill. read more

I hadn't been to a dentist since I was a kid (people are perplexed by this, but I never had a dental plan, nor a cavity or so much as a toothache, so whatever), so I wasn't sure what to expect when I finally got dental coverage and decided to go. I picked Dr. Tran based on her Yelp reviews, and, after visiting her, am happy to add another positive review. Dr. Tran and her staff set me at ease with their friendliness and professionalism. She explained everything and answered all of my questions thoroughly. She ended up doing a procedure that basically amounted to a very deep cleaning -- I don't recall the technical term -- and called me later that day to see how I was recovering, which I appreciated. It's a little tough to assign a star rating, as I have no basis for comparison, but I was totally satisfied with Dr. Tran. I guess dentists, by the nature of their work, get sort of a bad rap, but hey, if you have to get poked in the mouth with sharp instruments, why not have it done by someone skilled, professional, and empathetic? read more

Another rave review for Dr. Paul Tran! My appointment yesterday was quick and painless. I went in for my routine 6-month cleaning at 9:00 AM and was out by 9:45 - and that includes the time it took to fill out the new patient paperwork! The receptionist was helpful and friendly, reminding me that street sweeping took place that morning on the side of the street where I had parked. Woo-hoo, saved from a ticket! Dr. Tran cleaned my teeth himself utilizing an ultrasonic cleaner and did an excellent job - absolutely no discomfort! He was very professional and explained things to me about my teeth in detail - AND NOT ONE sales pitch! I had previously been seeing a Manhattan Beach dentist for 10+ years but became jaded with their practice after being billed for the replacement of a dislodged filling that they had originally done. And they were quite the up-sellers - it seemed like every time I visited, something was "wrong" that would require me shelling out $$, and not because I neglect my teeth - I keep my routine appts. Examples of this behavior: trying to sneak in x-rays although I'd had them done a few months previous, poking my teeth and noticing "sticky spots" that "need to be filled", pitching whitening products...It started to feel like getting dental care at a car lot. Dr. Debby Tran and her staff are WONDERFUL!!! I had not seen a dentist for a very, very, VERY long time - tsk, tsk, tsk, smh. So, after neglecting proper care for my teeth and gums, I really shouldn't have been surprised when one day a throbbing, head-splitting pain hit one side of my mouth. After 3-4 days of this, I yelped for a nearby dentist with decent reviews. Hello, Dr. Debby! She runs a busy office so I was grateful when they were able to squeeze me in at such short notice. The office is cute and very bright. There are lots of current magazines on the table to keep you entertained while you wait for your name to be called. I stress "current" because lots of doctor offices carry magazines that are outdated. Just an observation :) I have since gone three times with each of them super pleasant. I actually looked forward to each visit! PROS: - Dr. Debby is professional, knowledgeable and most importantly to me, she takes the time to answer all of my questions and explains them well. - She has a great team! Being new to the area I counted on my fellow yelpers to guide me in finding in a new dentist - once again, I wasn't dissapointed. My family & I saw Dr. Paul Tran and found him to be great. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and had a great calming demeanor. The kids loved him. However, dentists who are keen to this fact of life typically take reasonable steps to reduce the evil with such distractions as hip magazines, flat screen TVs, or hot dental assistants/employees. But every so often you run across a dentist that is not only sensitive to the fact that none of us enjoy the experience of getting our canines examined, but take it to heart by fostering an environment that not only distracts you from the fact that high-priced and high-powered machinery is going to be jammed in your pie hole, but they also ensure their dental environment employs the latest technology that expedites the process so you don't end up killing too much of your day. Such is the case with Dr. Debby Tran in Redondo Beach. Sure her office is unassuming from the outside but upon entering you feel relaxed and once you sit down in one of her semi-hi-tech exam rooms, you know you're going to receive great care by a great dentist and not have to worry about missing too much werk. So after finally giving up on my dentist of 7+ years (he was constantly on vacation entering the twilight of his career, new office with sucky parking, etc) I've been on the prowl for a new DDS and am happy to announce that after much ado, Dr. Tran won the honor and is now someone I will look forward to recommending to my F&F. Now I'm someone that takes "grill management" seriously as I do believe there is value in having not just a physically attractive smile, but also a physiologically healthy smile. So when it comes to making sure my pearly whites impress the skirts, I don't skimp on the associated costs with ensuring I rock a healthy set of enamel. That said, upon sitting down with Debby I knew she recognized this as she took the time to listen to my objectives and where I wanted my teeth to be in 30+ years...which may sound corny, but you only get one set and if you blow it with one/all of them, you're FFL and your pocket book will pay a dear price because you weren't willing to give up an extra dinner out every 6 months in exchange for a nice set of fangs. So I put that out there and while most dentists (especially during a recession such as this one) would, pardon the impending pun, chomp at the bit to have a patient tell them that money is no object, Dr. Tran informed me that she's a dentist first, business person second, and that her philosophy is the same as mine: long-term management by ensuring that my teeth's health comes before anything else...even the high margin upsells all dentists now have at their disposal (teeth whitening, high tech fillings, etc.) That sealed the deal for me so I told her my history and what I wanted whereupon she examined me, took some digital x-rays and pics, and explained to me some things I need to consider by showing me the pics she just took of my teeth on a small flat panel TV in my exam room. It was fast, painless, and Dr. Tran entertained every question I fired her way and clearly was not going to move on to her next patient until I had confirmed that I had all of my questions answered. She topped it all off with a very efficient cleaning and upon my exit I was given a bag full of dental-related goodies from a new toothbrush and toothpaste to dental floss and some kewl breath mints...all packaged in a neat little gift bag that was both classy and fun. In sum, if you're looking for a great DDS then you need not look further than Dr. Debby Tran. She's got an office in Burbank as well so if you don't have the time to make the drive to her South Bay office, then you can battle the 134 traffic and hook up with her in the Valley. Either way, Dr. Tran will treat you well and make sure your teeth are looking good for years to come and most importantly, won't try and bamboozle you in to buying unnecessary care for your smile. Just came from Dr. Debby Tran's office for a quick cleaning, a few x-rays and found myself smiling all the way home. A strange and unusual behavior after coming from the dentist and finding out you have one more wisdom tooth to remove, but i guess I'm just a sucker for good/informed service. I've been going there for about a year now thanks to some good yelp advice =) The whole team there is friendly and efficient. From the time I book my appointments with the receptionist to the time I get my pearly whites polished I feel well taken care of. Since I am the sole owner of my teeth, I really appreciate how Dr. Tran takes the time to answer all my questions. Today we talked about mouthwash to tooth connection points to the benefits of conservative dentistry practices for the longevity of a healthy tooth. She pointed out things on my digital x-rays and even took the time to draw me examples of teeth from different views to illustrate types of connectivity. I'm pretty picky with my dentists and doctors, and will look elsewhere when I get bad service from any member of their team. And really, shouldn't that be the case? If you get bad service from a restaurant, you find another place to get your Chinese food. Guess I'm pretty lucky I found Dr. Tran. read more

I called the office and told them my emergency, they got me in quickly and I have been seeing her ever since. Debbie does the cleanings herself and the dental hygienists do the polishing. They are always on schedule. She is never pushy and has a very friendly demeanor. Her office is just a block away from the beach. The staff is great. I'll be the first to admit. I hate dentists. Not just hate dentists but HATE DENTISTS!!!!!!!!! But Dr. Debbie Tran is fantastic. She is very understanding of my fear and respectful of what I want and do not want to have done with my own mouth. She doesn't lecture, doesn't scold, just gets me back on track with my dental health. I find I have to get referred out for the more extensive treatment, like a root canal and an implant (now you know why I hate dentists!). But for cleanings, cavities, and regular visits Dr. Debbie is the best. Okay, so the lobby is kind of plain, like another reviewer noted. But the office is 1 block from the beach and you can drive or walk along the Esplanade before your visit to get in that zen mood, ready for the drill, or to calm down afterwards. So who needs a designer lobby? Not me. I'd rather not spend much time there anyway. The office is comfortable, very clean and has up to date equipment. That's what I'm looking for in a dentist. The office staff are really nice, if a little shy. Maybe the other reviewer misinterpreted that for rudeness. I've always been treated very nice by the staff. This place is legit, I swear. Debbie Tran and her staff are the real deal. When I normally read yelp reviews I wonder if a place is rated unreasonably high because of self promotion, or encouraging patients/customers to write positive reviews. My first visit was a consultation and it went great. Dr. Tran will sit down with you and discuss your personal goals for your teeth and give you the best advise to maintain a healthy mouth. For my teeth, it was determined that a deep scale cleaning. Her staff was excellent in giving me prices and times available. Today I went in for a deep cleaning. It was a quick and effcient process. I planned to take a half day off work or not even go it. Well I'm already back after a couple of hours. The care that Debbie puts into her work is so hard to find these days from other dentists. I can't say enough about how happy I am about this place. For the people out there who are worried about finding a dentist that looks out for your best interest (teeth wise and wallet wise), schedule an appointment for a consultation and see for yourself. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by my visit with Dr. Debby Tran. The first thing that impressed me was her sitting down with me and obtaining a history: every dentist I've ever seen goes straight to work and makes some small talk, which I don't think is necessarily a negative thing since I know they are busy. Dr. Tran wanted to get to know me and took her time educating me about dentistry in a very friendly manner. It also impressed me that she personally cleaned my teeth AND had an assistant who suctioned and wiped away any spills. My entire life I've only had either the dental assistant clean my teeth or rarely the dentist do it him or herself while I would hold the suctioning in my hand. I adore Dr. Paul T. Tran! My family and friends have heard me rave for years about what a great dentist he is and I've succeeded into converting some of them into his patients. The wonderful experience starts when you arrive. Dr. Tran doesn't overbook patients, so you're never faced with a long wait or a crowded waiting room. The dental assistants always have a friendly smile and quick hand... especially when doing those annoying X-rays or polishing your teeth. But, of course, the star of the show is Dr. PTT. He's thorough, gentle on the mouth and capable, but best of all, he has the best "bedside" manner I've ever encountered (and I went through a lot of dentists before him). He's so friendly and easy-going and he genuinely cares about your well-being. I always feel happy after my dental appointment and my husband, who had a real dental phobia, never complains anymore about going to the dentist. One great anecdote about Dr. Paul involves a dental procedure my hubby underwent a couple years ago. He had to keep his mouth open for a long period of time, which caused his jaw to cramp up. My husband and I decided to see Dr. Tran based on the positive reviews that were given on Yelp. However, no one mentioned the disorganized office staff, so I am guessing that Dr. Tran's staff has changed or her services are so great that her clients overlook her office staff. Did not get a chance to see Dr. Tran because her office staff changed our dental appointments (made three weeks in advance) at the last minute. That alone is not a reason to give a one star review. However, the office staffs' condescending attitude that they were doing us a favor by having Dr. Tran see us, not apologizing for their appointment mistake and more importantly, insisting that we see them earlier that scheduled are the reasons Dr. Tran earned a one star rating. read more

So I get dental coverage through work and when I gave Debby & Paul Tran a try since I lived in Burbank. I no longer live in Burbank now, but I still go there every six months. I went yesterday and it really was out of the way for me--it took two busses and an hour and a half to get to Burbank. It's a small practice--small waiting room and 3 exam rooms--and it's pretty cozy. I appreciate the reminder calls of my appointment from the receptionist and in person she's nice and professional. The dental assistant is easy-going and she took my X-Rays rather quickly. It's done in the same chair as and she basically puts the contrast thingies in my mouth and takes X-Ray "pictures" that show up on the computer. Dr. Paul Tran explained everything to me. I was glad there wasn't anything serious with my teeth! He was very knowledgeable and explained in a manner easy for me to understand. He even his model of a mouth and teeth and toothbrush to demonstrate how to brush and floss (not that I didn't know how, but due to the nature of my teeth there's some special attention he wanted to emphasize). His wife, Dr. Debby Tran, is delightful in addition to her professionalism and care like that of Dr. Paul Tran. They could probably use some new chairs, but it's still functional. They don't try to sell me anything, which I appreciate, but they do tell me about their additional services--like whitening--should I be interested (no pressure!). Going to the dentist is always funny because you always try to converse with them (at least I do when I'm at a hair stylist). However, it's very hard to talk when they're constantly putting stuff in your mouth! I just like how friendly the Trans have been and they've always been good to me. I don't think I'll switch even if I live much further away. read more

I really liked Dr. Paul Tran, not a huge fan of the lady that cleaned my teeth, but it's the front office that I have the biggest complaints about. First... even the very first time when I called to sign up as a new patient, I found the receptionist extremely rude and unhelpful on the phone. I had asked if she could look into transferring my files from my own dentist and she stubbornly refused. She wouldn't even discuss it with me. Also, when you arrive, there are some magazines in the office, but I found it very unwelcoming. The office space where the files are and the receptionist sits needs some serious decorating... like a big vertical surfboard, or huge toothbrush or art on the wall. it's dark and grey and you have to cut through their office for your cleaning. My husband had the same experience. Recently, we tried to swap out our schedules as the appointments we registered for months earlier had some conflicts with our work. Again, the same receptionist was very curt and unhelpful. I like the dentist, but am considering switching because I'm feeling no "aloha" when I call. I'm hoping the Trans read this so they can look into their receptionist's cold welcome and consider painting a wall in their office area or doing a little sprucing up as well! read more

Their location is right by the water and is very easy to find. Their waiting room has lots of natural lighting and is comfortable. The rooms are very clean. After your x-rays they show your teeth blown up on screens and explain everything in very simple terms. Dr. Tran is very quick and good at what she does. More importantly, she's dedicated to getting your teeth at its best. My teeth felt so clean after I left and she gave me good advice. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I look forward to seeing everyone when I go back. read more
