If I could give 0 I would. Busses never on time. Rude drivers. Some are outright dangerous. Customer service a joke.

For the past 10+ years or so of paying this horrific joke of a bus company to get me to NYC on time (which it does not) I've dealt with a lot of issues with the bus, but today takes the cake. I had a dentist appointment at 830 and figured if I got to the stop just before 7 I could catch a bus into New York. There was one woman in front of me who had been waiting already so I figured it would be okay. I was wrong. We waited over 20 minutes for the first bus to show up, and not only did it come late but was apparently full to the point where they wouldn't stop to let us stand. We wait another 15 minutes and the next bus comes by and doesn't stop, despite having plenty of standing room. Next, another bus comes another 15 minutes later standing room only with a bus right behind it... at this point I have to cancel my appointment and pay a fee for cancelling late because my bus was over 50 minutes late. I experienced these mammoth delays when I was working in NYC and there were no other issues I was aware of that would explain issues with the buses. Just find a NJ transit route and go there. If you have to pay for parking to do this then by all means DO IT. It's well worth it rather than have to wait for extended periods of time while paying a chunk more than transit... read more

The only thing this bus line is consistently good at is being late. I am not talking a couple minutes late here and there...try 10, 15, and even 20 minutes late regularly. It's absurd considering if a passenger arrives at their gate 30 seconds past the bus's "departure" time, and of course that is according to decamps watch, even if the bus is still parked and just getting ready to leave; they will look you in the eye put it in reverse and leave you there stunned. The real kicker is the next bus will most likely arrive late as well. I think they get there kicks knowing they have made your life just a little bit harder. Oh and please, I beg you, never hand your bus driver more than one ticket, unless of course you like being scolded and snarled at with disgust. You would have thought I kicked the mans one legged dog. Never mind I was juggling three bags in a snow storm trying to get up the bus's ridiculously high step. How dare a bus driver have to tear a ticket! Maybe if Decamp moved into this century and offered some kind of monthly pass they could alleviate some of their poor bus drivers stress. The only reason I am giving De Camp two stars is because it does get me to and from work, even if I am always late. read more

Nice drivers but the bus isn't never ever on time. Everyday it is late. Good luck if you are trying to get to appointments in the city.

Just to update, while I am no fan of this poorly run bus line, I am beholden to it because it is the only one that takes me to work. Unfortunately, the last two days in a row, my bus just did not show up. Completely just didn't show up. There must have been at least 10 passengers waiting at the stop and one called Decamp to find out what happened to the bus and the customer service rep simply asked "So do you still need the bus?" What??? This isn't the first time its happened and I'm sure it won't be the last. It seems to me that, with Decamp, if a specific driver is out on vacation or sick, and they don't have the staffing to do the run, they just decide not to do it - passengers be damned. read more

I moved to Montclair three months ago and I work in New York. I ended up taking Decamp bus lines because of its direct service to NY (I had hoped for NJT service to NY). I have been very disappointed with the high cost, poor service, and lack of accountability. I have never seen this bus come on time at the YMCA in Montclair. It is extremely late all the time. I'm frequently calling dispatch and given the obligatory "it's on the way" when in reality it is not. Customers deserve service and bus schedules they can count on and plan around. It seems as though you feel you have a monopoly on service to NY and therefore do not have to take care of your riders. Poor business! Please do better especially when better is possible. The cost is too high for Decamp to not acknowledge customer complaints. On Monday 7/22 the 7:15 am bus arrived at 7:42. Today the 7:15 am bus arrived at 7:27. Please do better! read more

I am forced to take this bus to work every day. It is a horrible, horrible curse. The drivers belittle passengers for not having exact change and constantly threaten to throw people off the bus. Drivers refuse to answer any questions and even get extremely angry if you wish them a good morning. I honestly witnessed a driver falling asleep at the wheel one morning until he crashed into the back of another bus. I called DeCamp and told them what I had seen but the next morning the same driver was working as if nothing had happened. I see the drivers texting on their cell phones while they drive all the time. Also, schedules do not exist to this company. Thier buses arrive whenever they get around to it. They cancel without notice and could care less about their customers in any sense. Every time that I step foot onto one of this company's buses something happens to ruin my mood and make me wish that I were dead. This is not an exageration at all. The drivers with their terribly vile attitudes and the complete lack of respect or care from this company is unmatched. I could cry just thinking about how I have to pay them to take me home tonight. If you can figure any other way to get to where you need to be other than taking this bus, PLEASE save yourself a nightmare and do so. DeCamp is the worst company that I have ever had to deal with and if they don't kill me from ruined nerves, I'm sure they will crash me into another bus one morning soon. Finally, I have written this review while in a wonderful mood and nothing specific happened on my ride this morning. Always late. Rude drivers. Stay away unless you absolutely have no other choice! Drivers constantly make their own routes and take local highway when they should be staying in the express bus lane towards the tunnel. Can't count how many times I've been late due to a driver decision not to take the bus lane. We are moving to another town and I cannot wait to never be on one of these awful buses. They also somehow seem to keep raising prices even though the buses are second and third generation hand me downs from nj transit. Just terrible. read more

Most likely you will take this service because you need to somehow get into Manhattan. Ride with the risk of buses not being on schedule, mechanical breakdowns, rude drivers, drivers that wont stop AT the bus stop sign, route signs that will say "NEW YORK" while going in the opposite direction, etc. It's such a shame that some routes are practically monopolized with no other competitors. I am sure if other buses ran the route this firm would clean their act up. I feel sorry for new residents or new travelers that have to deal with one of the most horrible bus services in the country. I love it when two buses are riding each other neck and neck and coordinating which passengers to pick up. There are a couple good drivers who care about their job and maybe ONE port authority ticket agent that has an inkling of customer service. read more

I just dealt with a staff person on the phone. This had to be the rudest man i have ever dealt with in my life. I called to complain about a bus that did not stop at a bus stop when it was supposed to and just drove right passed. The man on phone put me on hold in the middle of my conversation, to take "another call" when he finally took me off hold and i explained what happen.. He so rudely told me he did not understand what i was saying because the bus has to run on a schedule. I continued to explain to him that the bus did not stick to its schedule and just drove passed the stop. He told me all he could do was just talk to the bus drive and then hung up on me. read more

I was standing on the corner of Ross Lane and Belleville turnpike to catch the 44 bus to Port Authority at 3:45PM on 7/15/2017. This is a stop listed on the bus schedule on the decamp website. I was rudely told by the bus driver "that's not a bus stop", "you can pay the ticket", and "I'm not stopping here next time." I asked for a bus ride not a lecture. Terrible service. Rude bus drivers. Never on time. Ever! Consistently runs late, just a matter of how late and buses cancelled without notice/ at the last minute. Unfortunately it is a monopoly business for the area which is why commuters don't necessarily have another option. read more

I try to laugh, but DeCamp Buses are the unfunny type of awful. The first time I took DeCamp, the driver snorted (and later simply ignored) when I asked whether we were near my intersection along the route, since I was unfamiliar and it was dark. Later, he told a BLIND MAN we were at the Stop & Shop he specified as we neared, when the bus was actually a few stops away. Watchful passengers warned the blind man, so the driver grudgingly drove reasonably closer (though overshot and we warned the blind man of that too). Well.. the next time I took DeCamp, both drivers (of the bus there, and the one I had to take back the other way) never reached even the main street of the intersection they confirmed they would pass before I boarded. The 1st driver simply forgot and apologized, the 2nd driver claimed I never told him the intersection I mentioned a few seconds prior, and said there was nothing he could do about my luggage- told me I could walk (2 miles, with luggage, in freezing weather??) or call a cab. Ended up paying more than the bus ticket just to make it the rest of the way. To top it off, when I called their offices to complain, dispatcher Terence told me it wasn't the driver's responsibility to know where the routes went! Can you believe that?? (The drivers knew the intersection I mentioned was farther south than they reached though!) I said they really shouldn't have confirmed if they weren't sure. Terence said: 1) I shouldn't have asked the drivers because the drivers don't really know the route- that's not their responsibility. 2) It was my fault for taking the wrong line- I shouldn't have asked the ticket window clerks because they don't really know which gate I need to go to for the line I purchased tickets for 3) it wasn't their fault that I didn't know where I wanted to go (say what?? Don't project your own stupidity on others, man). 4) claimed that he WAS the supervisor when I asked to speak to his (don't we all wish!), and 5) said I got what I paid for because they got me into the right city, just not exactly where I wanted (oh, only 2 miles off). Seriously, you're better off dragging your luggage half a mile thru ice from a NJ Rail stop than riding with these guys.. but unfortunately yea, they're the only option to NY from Bloomfield on weekends. read more

Horrible, horrible bus service. Usually 15-40 minutes late, too hot and stuffy, and very hard to tell what stops you're getting off at unless you already know by sight. There are no announcements. It's been this way for years. Avoid it if you can. read more

I have been taking the #33 bus from Verona to NYC for almost 2 months now. The commute to work is actually pretty smooth and consistent, however, the commute home is horrendous. The last express bus is scheduled for 6:25 every night. In today's economy does anyone really get out of work before 6:00? And even if you get to port authority early to catch the 6:05 it is always late. There is always 30 plus minutes in an already lengthy commute added due to late buses. I am considering driving to a nj transit train which is about 5 miles out of my way, to never have to deal with this company again. I would not recommend this company to anyone and I suggest doing a ton of research before you decide if this bus "service" is your only option. read more

I use Decamp Bus service on a regular basis as my only option on the weekends from Bloomfield to New York. October 29, 2011 Decamp Bus suspended service from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm. As my only option to get to Bloomfield I waited. When the driver got off the highway he noticed one of the street closing. He immediately made a decision to take Grove Street and totally forget about all the passengers that had to get off the bus before Montclair. He dropped us off about two blocks away from Mountainside Hospital. He said Broad Street was just up the block. When another passenger told him that was not true. He told him, then don't ride Decamp Bus service get off my bus. Talk about rude and mean. Well low and behold the other passenger was right Broad Street was not just up the block. It was miles away especially walking through snow. Here I was a woman at 10 pm left to walk down the middle of the street in the snow, wind whipped at me from every direction, trying to find my way to State and Broad Street. Trucks, cars, buses splashed slush all over me. Worst nightmare ever.It took me over an hour to walk home. My only solace was a gentleman going to James Street if not for him I could never have found my way home from there. Next time best bet stay over in New York or get someone to drive you there instead. read more

Although some of the drivers are courteous, some act like they hate your f*&%^Kng guts when you walk on the bus. Then they try to stop short, cut off other cars and drive in a lurching manner so you will smack your head on the seat or throw up. The schedules are nonexistent, and they don't use a modern communications system to tell you when the next bus is coming. Also, drivers obviously smoke on the bus and stink it up. I was wating for in line for the 7:30 bus on December 16th, and it did not arrive until 7:45, then the bus driver got out and walked around for a while. One man stood up and started to complain. He said that this happens every day. It's true, in the evening, and in the morning, this bus line just skips buses, and you have to wait for the next one. The next one is 8:30, one whole hour later, but this bus line does not care. The driver called the police, and took the man off the bus for complaining loudly. After he was taken off the bus, the whole bus started to shout at the driver. I hope that man is reading this, because I want him to know that he was not the only one. In addition, the bus drivers are very mean, I have complained twice to Decamp. If you ever ask a question to the bus driver, be prepared to get a rude response. Stay away from this bus line. DeCamp is the absolute worst. They stick in everyway. This morning our bus broke down and i had to walk three miles home. I called dispatch, they were extremely rude and finally hung up on me. The drivers act like they are doing you a favor. Find some other way to get to NYC. read more

I wish that I could provide zero stars or even a negative rating. I have commuted from NJ to NYC for 10 years. I recently moved to Montclair, NJ where Decamp is the bus line closest to me. I have never in my whole life experienced such level of unprofessionalism from the dispatch or bus drivers. The dispatch center reps (including the management) are downright rude with unacceptable attitudes including the tendency to hang up on callers on multiple occasions. The bus drivers never arrive on time and drive recklessly. They are either ten minutes earlier than schedule or more than 10 minutes late every day. It is inexcusable and this company should be avoided at all costs. read more

Bottom line is this bus company's drivers and even dispatch are HORRIBLE! When the buses are late, which is most of the time, dispatch is rude when you call to find out where's the bus! I am late to work more often than not having to depend on Decamp to get me to New York! Some of them don't even try to take a quicker route if the opportunity presents itself. We sit in the bus lane for over an hour when 495 is clear. Why not take the faster route??? Their job is to get their passengers into Port Authority by a certain time! They clearly don't care. If they hate their job so badly, QUIT! There are plenty of people who need jobs and would be happy to do their jobs gratefully! Decamp is the worst! I am looking to move out of New Jersey so I don't have to stress anymore over a poorly run organization, who clearly doesn't care about their passengers who spend hundreds of dollars a month keeping this awful company in business! If I could give zero stars, I would. DeCamp is the worst, most unreliable transportation company I have ever dealt with. I have been commuting for fifteen years. In the past, I have used Nj Transit, Ny Waterway, and the LIRR, and have never experienced the problems I have with DeCamp. Every morning, multiple buses are cancelled due to "operator difficulties". I rely on this bus company to get to work on time, and their constant cancellations threatens my both my reputation and my livelihood. I would like further explanation of exactly what "operator difficulties" means. Are there not enough bus drivers, not enough working buses or is there another issue? DeCamp has done nothing to remedy this issue, as it has been going on for months. Additionally, due to the cancellations, there is overcrowding and people pack the aisles standing up. The buses are also never on time in the evening. The lines in Port Authority get longer and more frustrating each day. Tickets in Port Authority are only sold at a ticket window, where. 1-2 agents are working at any given time. Again, this results in long lines and wasted time. If DeCamp would install ticket machines, it would make things a lot easier. I would not recommend this bus company to anyone. read more
