Nope. Our experience was the opposite of the customer's directly below. Called the day before for my daughter to be picked up at 4:30 am the following morning for an international flight from JFK. We usually don't depart so early, but the Bomb Cyclone got the jump on making a mockery of everyone's best laid travel plans. This was a rescheduled flight more than 24 hours after the original take off time, so anxiety was already a bit high. I gave the receptionist my daughter's phone number, so the driver would have that instead of mine. She indicated that someone would be in touch when a car had been confirmed. When no one called back, my daughter called them at around 11pm, and was told that yes, everything was in order for a 4:30am pick up, and that she could pay the driver with a credit card. 4:30 am came and went. My daughter called them to see where the driver was, and was told that they hadn't sent anyone because none of the available cars had the ability to process credit card orders. Say what? Fortunately, we live near a cab-rich intersection, and from now on, we'll just pray to the yellow gods that a taxi presents itself next time we need to travel at such an ungodly hours. Seems like New Harlem's a bit behind the curve in the age of Square, and other mobile credit card processors. Though you think they'd know how to pick up a phone to inform a booking when there's a snafu that could be remedied with a trip to the ATM or a card given over aforementioned phone. read more

No. I guess I've been spoiled but usually when I've called a car service they call when they get there. I'm standing in front of my apt for 20 minutes before calling back and being told he "didn't see me" and left. Said please have him come back! Dispatcher(who was very nice) says okay watch for a black Camry...I watch this guy drive right by me 3 times, in the left lane not even looking in my direction as I'm frantically trying to wave him down. Where are you going??? So I call the dispatcher back and tell her I've seen him drive by 3 times, he's in the right place and needs to come pick me up!! So this time he actually looks over, sees me and pulls over. Really?? Never again. Nice driver, nice dispatcher but never again. read more

I've only used NHCS one time but I couldn't have been happier. I asked them to pick me up at the ungodly hour of 4:15 a.m. I checked to confirm the reservation at 11 p.m. the night before and the woman I spoke with even wished me a safe flight after seeing in my file that I was taking the car to the airport. My driver arrived 15 min early the next morning, was friendly, got me there in a timely manner, and it was the best price I could find for a trip to LGA. My only tip is to bring cash! I hadn't known that I could only pay with cash, at least for a reserved trip. I highly recommend this service! read more

Just had a good experience with New Harlem Car Service. Called them for a trip from Morningside Heights to the West 70s. Car showed up within minutes. The driver was courteous and he helped me with my unusually large amount of luggage. The car was clean, odor-free and I got where I was going without any incident. We called here to reserve a car and the operator who answered the phone was downright rude and had a very bad attitude. Not friendly at all----I wanted to say we were no longer interested but decided to give it a chance. She put me on hold for five minutes and I had to hang up and call back to be told that "I don't got anybody now. Try us back in 10 minutes." I said thank you anyway but we would use someone else. Not that she seemed to care. Would NEVER use them again after this. read more

Dispatcher was quick and kind (as was I.) Called the night before to arrange a car to LGA. The car was early and the driver was kind, safe and efficient (even before dawn!) Car was clean (Older, but I don't see why that matters.) Quoted price included tolls and was what I paid. No complaints. I have no reason to use another service. read more

Visiting NY on a business trip. I accidentally left my company camera in the car. Called the dispatch office (who were very friendly) and they spent over and hour tracking down my driver who had already spent his own time trying to find me to return it! After getting the driver's number and speaking with him he drove out to meet me and returned it. "New HCS" was easy to use, the driver was friendly and honest. I got quick ride from Lenox and 123rd across town to Amsterdam and 121st and paid the same price I would have in a cab. Highly recommend New HCS for rides in and out of Harlem. read more

Christmas Day. Need to get to a movie at 65th and Broadway. We have used the "New" Harlem Car Service many times, in fact, probably three or four times a week or more for the last several years. Yes, there have been problems with the dispatcher, who is somewhat, shall we say, unprofessional - if this should apply. What are the professional standards for dispatch ? They may want to look into this given that the dispatcher is the first and most consistent interface between SERVICE PROVIDER and CUSTOMER. They may also want to look into the actual meaning of the words in capitals. A car service is never doing a customer a favor. On the contrary. In any case. At around 4:45, we phone them. The (female) dispatcher puts us on hold for an inordinate amount of time. We phone back. Another hold, she returns, informing us rudely, "I do not have a car for you" just before abruptly hanging up. "New" Harlem Car Service has now lost a once active customer - permanently. We will walk to our destinations before using them again. I wonder how many of the reviews under "Harlem Car Service" were meant for this place. On the other hand, Harlem Car Service is scarcely better, that's why we shifted loyalties in the first place. Perhaps both will go out of business ...? With such a dispatcher, "New" Harlem Car service certainly should. read more

It's not every day that a driver parks his car so he can help carry your mammoth air conditioner to your fourth floor walk up apartment. Apart from that amazing feat, the service was extremely fast and efficient and the driver was friendly and obviously courteous. If you want the best driver around ask for car 66. read more

DO NOT USE THIS CAR SERVICE. I called New Harlem Car Service on Sunday afternoon to reserve a 4:30am pickup on Tuesday morning. I explained that there would be 2 other stops after mine, as I was taking a small group of underserved youth to the airport so we could fly to a leadership camp in Canada. At the time of the reservation, I let the operator know that I would be paying by credit card. She said that that would be fine, and that I could expect a large enough vehicle to take us all to the airport. When Tuesday morning came, there was no car to pick me up. I called the car service to locate my driver, and the operator indicated that she had my information and the reservation that I had previously made. She let me know that the driver would arrive "in a few minutes". Fifteen minutes later, I called the service again, and the operator said the driver "couldn't see [me]" despite the fact that I was a woman standing alone in front of my apartment building at 4:30 in the morning. When he finally located me, I reminded him that we had two other stops to make. He claimed he didn't know anything about this. I provided him the written addresses of the two stops we needed to make, and somehow he STILL drove to an incorrect address and then lectured me about how people need to be ready to be picked up (Mind you, everyone was ready. He just went to the wrong address despite my telling him that it was the wrong address.) Eventually, everyone was picked up, and we headed to the airport. At the drop off point, I gave him my credit card. He shook his head and so "No, I don't take that." I explained that I said I would be paying by card when I originally made this reservation. He yelled at me and said there was no reservation! I had to wait for my coworker to arrive at the airport in order to pay in cash. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DEPLORABLE AND DANGEROUS TAXI RIDES I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I am utterly disgusted by this establishment and the way they treat their patrons. read more

New Harlem has been a breath of fresh air after the drivers at Carmel. At the end of the day, it's an NYC car service so it's not perfect, but the cars show up in minutes after calling and the drivers are usually reasonably safe. read more

I'm very happy with this car service. WE were leaving NYC at 5AM, and I contacted them the evening before. Everyone else was booked or required 24-36 hours notice. These guys came through for us and got us to the airport on time stress-free. read more

Inconsiderate and bad service. On July 15th I called the New Harlem car service in my area to take me to work due to the terrible rain storm. The New Harlem Car service explains that they do door to door pick up but, that was not the case. The driver of car #74 waited across the street while it was pouring, watching me as I desperately tried to avoid getting too drenched from the monsoon. I waved at him from the front door of my house to assure him that I was the customer to be picked up. This inconsiderate jerk of a cab driver, just watched me leap over massive puddle after puddle to the corner of my block, step into unavoidable pools of water while crossing the street to get to where he was parked. The street was flooded, I was drenched from head to toe, my umbrella took a real beating and his lame excuse for not picking me up in front of my door was that he thought it was too dangerous to make a U turn in the rain. This was "Bull", because he could have acknowledged me, and rounded the block, I would have waited patiently, considering the rainy circumstances. There's that. And then, how about, there was not one car parked on my street or travailing in my street for a whole 2 minutes during this ordeal. If you have a policy of picking up your customers with door to door service, then it should stand all the time and not when you or one of your drivers decide it's convenient to him or her. read more

We live in Harlem & am was out of town - a neighbor highly recommended them after using them for sometime. So I called to see they could accommodate with 2 car seats for toddlers almost 2 yrs old, so my wife & nanny could take them in the morning, since the sidewalks were snowy & difficult to navigate w/ a double-stroller. The dispatcher was quite short & ended up being rude as I was trying to see if they provided this service from point A to point B. I was quickly told they only have mini-vans at night - only one in the morning, so it's not guaranteed, so I asked how much if we wanted to use the service in the evening - she answered - it was pretty reasonable - as we need a mid to long term, reliable, reasonable car service that has car seats for two little ones. I was trying to ask one more question - as she hurried me off the phone - and I can understand she may have other calls - as I was trying to clarify that they provide the car seats (most car services don't), and she curtly says she didn't have time to answer any more questions, as she had other calls and placed me on hold. I then immediately called back to talk w/ a manager - after only a 1 minute wait, unfortunately the same dispatcher answered and I requested a manager. She said "No manager here - Said to call after 6p." I said I would like to talk to a manager - not 100% certain that none was there, and then rudely said "I can't sit up here and answer all of your questions," and again I went to 'Hold.' I will likely call after 6p to see if a Manager will discuss, yet as this is the 'face' of the service, not sure if it's worth my time. So...will be looking for someone else. Too bad. read more
