Deck Masters completely removed my old deck and built me a new one to their design. My wife and I want to highly commend the team that did the work, and especially the lead gentleman. He is an absolute artist with a circular saw. He took great pains to hand-fit every piece when a sloppy fit would have been so much easier. The composite deck material is beautiful! When the job was done the team cleaned up the new deck and all the areas where materials had been staged during construction. If you want a company to give you the wrong information on their quote? Call these guys. If you want the owner to argue with you, cut you off, not listen to you? Call these guys. If you want them to assist with HOA info, they tell you they will then tell you what you provided will work...then when it doesn't and the HOA wants clarification on one thing and they ignore you, don't call you back even when you call the business number, call the owners cell, text the owner, and email the owner to answer one question? Well, CALL THESE GUYS! Shameful and there are 100's of better deck and patio companies willing to call you back and answer one simple question without arguing with you. read more

They do not want a consumers money. Tried 3 times to have Justin to come out to look at a patio cover that they installed in 2006 and needed some repairs. Their "call service" does a great job of answering the phone yet it goes no where with them. Like I said, wanted to give them money, they do not want it. I have since gone to. Awesome company. Built a 900 sq ft patio and between deck masters and prater concrete , our patio is used more than our living room! I was almost worried at how fast they were and then it was clear- they just had mastered this thing beyond comprehension. First off let me say that I work in the real estate industry and am a licensed architect in the state of Texas. I've worked on development and construction jobs for over 14 years and have extensive experience resolving issues with contractors in an amicable and expeditious manner, and I understand that every job has its issues. What I look for and hope to find in a contractor is a willingness and a desire to do whatever it takes to get the job done correctly and to the property owner's satisfaction. When my wife and I hired Deck Masters for a simple rebuild and reroof of our back patio, we hoped that would be the case. Unfortunately, we had no such luck with this company, and quite frankly it was one of the most frustrating and time consuming jobs I've ever experienced for such an easy job. To compound the frustration, the company's owner was a complete jerk to me and my wife. Usually business owners are rational, reasonable, and accept responsibility for the work their crews and company perform (common sense, right?). At least, the good ones do, every time. Additionally, they are generally friendly and not argumentative or combative with their customers, they want happy customers so they can get more business down the road from repeat clients and referrals. Not so with Mike Owens, the owner of Deck Masters. Apparently he has too much business to care. And I will caution any homeowner that comes into contact with his company to be vigilant in understanding exactly what they plan to do to your home, especially if they are tying into an existing roof. If any issues arise (and they will), be prepared to battle with the owner of this company, he is not easy to work with (at all) and he is very defensive. He will argue until you are blue in the face before he even steps onto your property to see what you're talking about. If you still choose to hire this company, you should know that they will contract out EVERY trade, NOTHING is done in house by Deck Masters, including the framing, roofing and staining, and they do not inspect any of the work their sub-contractors perform when the job is complete. Nor will they make sure that your gutters function properly, this is very important for you to know and understand, water is your worst enemy with a roof and these guys have NO CLUE what's happening with the water. There is absolutely NO quality control at all. I only wish I had the ability to post pictures of this incredibly shoddy work and videos of the leaks (unreal). Also extremely important to understand: Deck Masters DOES NOT install roofs per the recommendations of the roofing manufacturers, I only discovered this after having their roof work inspected by 2 different independent certified roofing contractors, who both couldn't believe what they saw. Deck Masters simply throws up a roof the cheapest and fastest way possible with inexperienced laborers. What is even more concerning about Deck Master's roof installation practices, and what I was most concerned about, are latent defects that can occur but aren't visible for many years, like a slow leak that allows water infiltration into your home over time. Unfortunately, you may only find out about it when 1) you go to sell your home and an inspector tells you there's a problem or 2) your family gets sick because you have mold growing in your walls due to leaks infiltrating your home unbeknownst to you. Deck Masters is simply a sales company in which their owner touts a "10-year warranty" to give you a false peace of mind that he'll resolve any issues (aka NOTICEABLE leaks) that arise. What he means is that he will continue to install caulking around your roof every time you experience a leak, even if its every month for 10 years, they will keep adding more globs of caulk (which looks horrible by the way). After their initial install we had several major leaks in which they applied more caulking and then the next time it rained (you guessed it) we noticed more leaks, this time in the soffit of our existing roof (inside the structure, not good), they simply didn't do it right and were unwilling to fix it properly. I finally succumbed to the fact that I made a MISTAKE in hiring Deck Masters for this job. Life is too short and I was tired of the owner's combativeness, excuses and unwillingness to fix the issues correctly. I'm having to hire a certified roofing contractor to replace the complete mess this company installed on my home and install a new roof properly, which includes water and ice shields on valley ridges and under low slope roof shingles, flashing around the perimeter and where the roof meets the house at 90 degree angles, new roofing material that is not defective, and a proper gutter system to channel excess water off the new roof efficiently without ponding.
