We have gone two times now to the new location . The drinks are fabulous "the last word " The first time we went we had the special suckling pig ! It was so tasty and the polenta perfect . The second time we went we had the caviar service , it was good maybe a light bread or toast would be a good accompaniment the chips were delicious but I couldn't taste my caviar . I have enjoyed so many great meals and amazing cocktails at Decker Kitchen. I began visiting the old location during the first reopening after the forced closure. Was blown away by the craft cocktails and naturally leavened sourdough bread. Appetizers/specials I keep going back to are the warm olives, the feta mouse toast, arancini, and shakshuka. Last visit they had chicken liver toast on special. I'm not a fan of liver- but chef Kristin made me a believer in this presentation! Live music on Friday and Saturday nights is amazing! First time dining experience last night and not sure where to start ... would give 2.5 stars if possible. Matt our server did a good job overall so that is why there are stars at all. Made reservations a week in advance for a party of 4 at 7pm and you'd think we asked the Hostess (with no customer service ability, no personality; bad fit for her post) to complete long division. We were finally seated at 735pm in the bar area, not the main dining room, as if they were needing to accommodate our surprise arrival. Most importantly, let's discuss the FOOD: The Bread was good, and apparently made in-house. Although, if you want more, you'll have to pay for it. Note to the kitchen: cut the bread all the way through into full slices to avoid having to tug and pull the bread apart at the table into the smear of butter on the plate. For the price, a $49 Ribeye should have been a little more inspired. While it was seasoned well, a steak that is .25 inch thick does not generally require a reverse sear. This method really comes into play with a thicker cut of meat. The color of the steak was a blueish grey, not very appetizing, and when we pointed out that the meat was not cooked to medium rare, the Chef or a Chef came out to "educate" us (two of the four people at our table cook for a living) that the reverse sear was the reasoning behind the meat not being cooked properly. Appalling behavior for a Chef to leave the kitchen and then to not offer to fire a new steak but make excuses for the one already fired. Additionally, the quartered roasted red potatoes were bland & uninspired as well. The $35 Pork Ribs were good, good flavor on the bbq sauce and not overly dry but teetering on the edge. The slaw lacked flavor and acidity, the cut was slovenly and un-uniform with large chunks of green onion show casing laziness in preparation. The pickles were far too salty - think salt lick, no real flavor just salty. And there were more of the uninspired, dry, under-salted roasted red potatoes. Salmon was over-cooked, although the the Spanish Burger and salads were palatable. Overall, Decker Kitchen suffers from mediocre food that lacks the quality you'd expect for the price point. Expect poor front of house management, and the dining room to be understaffed as well. Expensive for what you get and disappointing. We won't be back as our quest for a decent, elevated food experience continues to elude us in TO. read more

This place is a little gem. I'm so happy we went on date night! It's very small and only has around 7 tables. So making a reservation is a must! They also have a smaller menu, probably because they make everything from scratch and it's all fabulous so you don't really need a ton of options. We started with the cheese and charcuterie- everything on the board was delicious! I also ordered a spritz. They made it with an Italian aperitif that wasn't sweet but not bitter either. It was quite nice. Then I ordered the pork chop which was on special that night. I wouldn't normally order pork at a restaurant but they said it was great. I was very happy I got it! It was the best pork chop I've ever eaten in my life! So delicious! They brought me to red wines to try as a pairing for the chop and I went with a really nice red blend. My husband got the ribs and he loved those as well! They are definitely known for the ribs because tons of people were ordering them and it makes sense because they are delicious! For sure their staple. We didn't get dessert but maybe next time! The service was great and the owner/manager was such a nice guy to chat with! At least I assume he was the owner or manager. Food was not good except for the bread. If you want a slice of bread for dinner, this is your place. I ordered the Mac n cheese, half chicken and pork chops. The Mac n cheese was soupy with warm noodles on top and cold noodles on the bottom. It was basically noodle soup with Parmesan cheese warmed on top with no salt. My chicken was pink inside and on a bed of leafy greens and croutons. These greens were soggy due to the heat from the chicken and the croutons were burnt. The pork chops were PLAIN. It had no seasoning whatsoever. I was extremely disappointed with the food especially with a bill that was over $100. I will not be returning. read more

This review is just for the restaurant's signature bread. Haven't been in to the establishment myself yet. My husband is frugal. For example, when he goes to drop off donations to a local nonprofit thrift shop, he often comes home with "new" shirts for himself. Yikes! Trying to get rid of stuff, not acquire more. While he's saving on clothing, he does like to splurge on good food items. After reading a two-page spread on Decker Kitchen's owner, Graham Harris, in Edible Ventura County magazine, Dear Hubby made a special trip to Westlake Village yesterday afternoon to buy a loaf of their signature sourdough bread. $14 later, the guy who wouldn't spend $9 on a beer at the County Fair ("That's an outrageous price!"), brings home said signature loaf and tries it. I just had some for my breakfast this morning. DH was second guessing his purchase; feeling some buyer's remorse. He had me taste the bread before telling me how much he paid for it. Hmm. Okay, it's a very large loaf of bread. The crusty exterior presents well. For my taste, the sourdough tang is not quite at a level and piques my interest. Also, whenever it was baked yesterday, by this morning, it's already starting to get stale. The interior texture isn't light and fluffy; rather too dense for my preference. From what I read from other Yelpers, when you're in the restaurant, if you want to enjoy the bread with your meal, there's a $4 charge for it. Overall, I understand Harris' passion for great bread, but I confess to sticker shock at his pricing of his precious loaves. read more

What a gem! It honestly felt like I was at home in a cozy little cabin waiting around the table for an amazing meal. We sat at the bar, very homey feeling. The bartender mixologist was rad. He explained all the cocktails and the menu! One of the cocktails was a passion fruit marg that was so delish he put it on tap. He even hand picked the passion fruit. Wow. Cocktails to order: black and yellow - do not pass this up. OMG. Trust me! Smokey old fashion. Classic and bomb! Food: Olives. Omggggg so so yummy! Warm and you can taste the rosemary and olive oil and wow. Get the bread to dip in it too! Shakshuka - this tasted like it was cooking all day and the flavors were perfectly married. Ordered the little gem salad, the dressing was pomegranate molasses no oil, no seasoning just super thick and super sweet! Sorry but not good! The crispy chicken was not crispy it was over cooked, and dry! Basically overdone jerky! The salmon was decent but really how hard is it to fry up a piece of fish? And the underwhelming dessert (they only have 1 dessert) was warmed up pound cake topped with whipped cream. Waste of money, and terrible experience. Will never go back! Won't go back. Was hopeful based on reviews and that there is a dearth of nicer restaurants in the Conejo Valley. But we (family of 4) had a bad experience. Saturday night and it was about half full so not really busy. Server was super nice, but.... very untrained. These all happened in the span of 10 minutes... Wife: how is the Pinot noir by the glass? Server: I don't know. Me: what kind of oysters are they? Server: I don't know. Wife: what is the ratio of beets to greens in the beet salad? Is it more beets than greens... is it balanced..? Server: I don't know. Other things: - Ordered the baked mac and cheese for our daughter. The bartender dropped it off the table quickly (guess the server was busy?) saying, "Careful, it's hot") and scooted away. Well... it wasn't. It was cold. Like, out of the cooler and thrown in an oven for just a couple of seconds. Told the server and she offered to "warm it up" (wrong response) but by then our daughter had eaten some of our son's pizza and it worked out, so we asked her to take it off the bill and she seemed shocked. - I ordered "the burger." SERVER: Which one? ME: "There's more than one? I didn't see a second burger on the menu..." SERVER: There are two in the system. ME: (flipping the menu over and double checking) "Only the Spanish burger is on the menu." SERVER: OK, so you want the Spanish burger? ME: "Well, I don't know now. What is the other burger?" SERVER: I don't know, there's just another burger in the system. (Another IDK!) ME: ....... I'll have the Spanish burger, please." I was so disappointed in this restaurant as I've heard so many good things. I will break down our experience into sections. Service: a reservation was made for Easter Sunday at 11:30 and we expected the restaurant to be busy. When we arrived, it looked like there was probably 3 other tables that were full in addition to ours. The rest of the restaurant was empty. The service was way too slow for the minimal amount of people. They keep glass bottles of water on the table for you to use and ours was empty the entire meal until the check was brought, at that time we got a new one- when it didn't even matter anymore. A table that got seated after us received their food before us. Usually we are not picky about the wait time from ordering the food to receiving it but this took an exceptional amount of time. Mimosas were ordered and brought by our server, just for another server to attempt to deliver another round that was not ordered. It didn't seem like staff was communicating to each other properly at all. We could understand if it was a busy Easter Sunday brunch but the restaurant was far from crowded. Food: it was okay. We got the mushroom appetizer which I didn't care for, and 3 of us ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo which all 3 of us were very disappointed in. 90% of the burrito was potato and egg, and 10% made up the chorizo. The burrito only came with a small side of fruit with 2 sad and mushy strawberries and a handful of blueberries. Why are breakfast potatoes or hash browns not an option here? The 4th person in our party ordered an omelette that was dripping in cheese grease. Overall, for the price of the menu options we really expected a lot more or at least higher quality food/presentation. Ambience: the only thing that was nice. It is a beautiful restaurant and they decorated it really nicely. It is enjoyable to sit at, which is good cause based on our experience, you'll be sitting for a long time. I can't say that I recommend this place. I am curious, however, to check out the dinner menu and perhaps it may be a better experience in the evening. Phenomenal experience - bringing the HOSPITALITY back to the hospitality industry. The service, the food, the cocktails, and the wine program - all of it hit the mark. Over the years, the Los Angeles restaurant scene has changed and moved away from a genuine focus on hospitality and the guest experience. Decker Kitchen hasn't! The gentleman taking care of us was great. Everyone working there was gracious. You could clearly see there was a culture of hospitality and enjoyment from all the staff working the restaurant. The cocktails and the wine program makes this place a must. Great seeing a place that focuses on spirits and wineries off the beaten (big distributor brand) path. Wine program was well curated - honestly can't remember the last time we enjoyed by the glass red wine served at cellar temperature here in Los Angeles - nice touch! Every single thing I ate here was PERFECT. We had the feta toast as an appetizer. It melts in your mouth and has so much flavor! I'm about to name my first born after this dish. My husband had the steak rare. He said it was perfectly done with a nice crisp to it. My pork chops were phenomenal! We shared a side of Mac n cheese that will never disappoint. We ended the night with a Créme brûlée hazelnut napoleon that made me see God. We're definitely coming back. The staff was kind and respectful. So slow, drinks came out late, appetizers were also rushed because the entrees were coming and the entrees came out room temperature. Everything tasted great but again the service desperately needs to be beefed up. With as large as the new location is there needs to be more wait staff to keep up with demand. We ordered delivery the other day. They never disappoint. We had a Margherita pizza, a Chicken Cesar and the Salmon. Everything is so tasty and the people are nice as can be. I'm sad that they no longer have the chicken thighs which was served with rice and a teriyaki bbq sauce. I still dream about it. Maybe it will be back after X-más or after they read this review.
