Blanco and reposado graced our glasses-all were great. The food arrived and of the various eight dishes everyone raved at the freshness, flavor and poise that lay plated before us. For instance, carnitas were moist and tender-could not beat the taste. I have been to this location several times and have nothing short of a positive experience every time. We love Patron. This is my family's go to Mexican spot, in all honesty it's our go to if we eat out because it's the one place, we can always agree on. The food is yummy, they have both a med/hot salsa and a mild for the kids or this that don't like too much spice, it's great for the kids. The drinks are strong and delicious. I was here on a Thursday evening around 6 pm. Was seated immediately. Watching other diners come in I got the sense that many were regulars, the way the staff and them greeted each other warmly. The Jalapeño Margarita was well made with some crushed and added, and a few pieces added on top, raw. Chips and Salsa came quickly. The server was kind enough to suggest a dark, musky Habanero sauce that tasted like a cross between Salsa and Chinese Hoisin sauce. Very tasty! Being from San Diego, we were staying at the Courtyard Marriott, which is within walking distance. You'd think being from a border town, we wouldn't visit a Mexican Restaurant in Thousand Oaks.. right? What a find! The guacamole was so fresh and delicious. I had a simple Quesadilla which was perfect. Of course, my husband ordered the Fajita Quesadilla, which I will be trying the next time we are in the area. Though it's close to the Courtyard Marriott, (where we were staying) most of the patrons were locals. The atmosphere is comfortable and the greeting/service staff are genuinely great -- that part deserves credit. Unfortunately, the food and drinks don't come close to matching the prices. We debated coming back because we didn't feel great after our last visit, and this time sealed it. I've never liked their chips & salsa (which, to me, is a dealbreaker for a Mexican restaurant). I ordered a $23 combo plate and thought they forgot the chile relleno -- turns out it was there, just incredibly small. The margaritas were rough: one was $19, the other $15, and neither of us finished them. Food was very average, drinks were disappointing, and the total with tip was $93 for two people. I like this restaurant. You walk on and are greeted right away. We sat at the bar and were greeted by the bartender who did an excellent job. The bar was nice as was the rest of the place. Nice art on the walls and a TV above the bar. The food was also pretty good. I had the Chile Verde plate, a generous portion, and very tasty. Also, the chorizo dip was very good. I took my parents there for dinner because I love their tacos. My Mom and I ordered the Two Taco Combination plates with side salads and my Dad the Avocado Salad. Three side salads were delivered. We tried to tell the Spanish speaking server that we only had two side salads. My Dad even said to him that he ordered the Avocado Salad for his entree. He still put all three side salads down on the table and left. After our first bites, Not 60 seconds later, the server, Kimberly, came out to our table and said she would have to take the third side salad back or charge us. I said, "Your helper left all three after we tried to tell him we only had two!" She, again, said it didn't matter she would have to charge us or take it. Not happy. We will not be back. I ordered a side tostada with no meat. They brought me a large one, and I asked them to take it back and bring me a side. All the other side dishes were $6.99 and they charged me $13.99. I talked to the waitress and then the manager. Basically the manager said "that's the way it is". We came on a Friday evening and although the place was busy we were able to get a table for 3 right away. Service was friendly and someone came to take drink orders quickly. Chips and salsa were promptly delivered and good. The classic mojito had too heavy of a pour, but had good underlying flavor. The horchata was good/average, but the portion extremely generous. The dinners come with soup or salad. The albondingas soup was flavorful but light on the actual meatballs. The salad was fresh and crisp. Came here two times and the service for the second time was not great. First of all the salsa was not spicy the one I normally get. The lady said every day is always different. As far as I know quality is very important. The portion size was so small and the first time I was here I had a big size. Not great at all. The manager was greeting customers who comes there all the time and basically pass me and my family and went to the other table. So racial profiling looks like here. Patrons is the perfect spot for a good margarita and stellar service. They have a large menu and bar that it's perfect for dinner or a few drinks. The service here has always been great. Friendly staff and I always feel checked on appropriately when dining here. You are greeted from the moment you come in, I've always been seated promptly, and servers are friendly. As I said above, the drinks are fantastic! You HAVE to get a Margarita if you come. They are delicious and they have a good variety. I got the Jamica and Midori Margarita here before and both were delish. They know how to make a good drink. The docked star is for the inconsistency of the food. The food here is generally pretty good, I've just learned a few times the hard way that there are just some items you don't get. For example, as another noted - the carne Asada steak is not going to come out cooked to order. I ordered mine medium rare and it came out almost medium well. I should have sent it back but I didn't. On the other hand, I gave them another try and their chipotle enchiladas were fantastic. Something I would not usually order but they really were good. I'm glad I came back & gave another try. Todays lunch was amazing. The main star is Gabriel. One of the best servers I have come across in awhile. No sooner did we sit down, Gabriel was ready with the basket of chips & salsa. He was on top of making sure the basket was always filled & we had enough salsa. The enchiladas were filled with a lot of cheese & it was melted perfectly. They do have the best refried beans, with lots of melted cheese on top. When you check in with Yelp, you are offered 10% off the total bill but we were informed it wasn't good on the lunch specials we were getting. For a Mexican American restaurant, Patron ticks the average scale. The food is good for what it is. There is nothing extraordinary and certainly not notable unless you're here for the drinking crowd. StapleStaples such as rice and beans are acceptable. Their refried beans are good, but often times the rice is a day old and reheated. Enchiladas are pieced together before serving and could taste better with more love. The Tamales are just not good, but if you drown them in sauce, they can be tasty. Cuts of Carne Asada seem to be under restaurant quality, and many entrees are not as fresh as they can be. There is great value in their lunchtime menu pricing, but for what they give you, their regular menu pricing is not on par. Service from their friendly staff is excellent. Ordered the Patron Burrito (top of menu); dissatisfaction would be the understatement of the century. This burrito delivered my salivating mouth with grave disappointment. Grilled steak was near inedible as the charred substance I did not initially identify as meat. Avocado had the feeling of being sat in a warm bath of decaying membrane.
