The 3 and one of our party did the shorter prospector's tour (all walking - no repelling or climbing harness needed). With the large party we were a little over 3.5 hours. Plenty to see and do, but the wait for the rappelling section was a little long (one at a time). Just walking through the mine, seeing the fog, feeling the cool temperatures, and the overlook before the repelling is nice. Plenty of story about the history, mining in general, and features in the mine. That's the prospector's tour and the first part of the miner's tour. Then there's repelling, clipping in to walk down a hill, walking over a shaky bridge, and exiting through the ice cave (temps in the 30s). We had a good time and I recommend it. Don't go overboard dressing warmly. There's a decent amount of activity, especially on the last part of the miner's tour.

Some of the more popular flavors are available for retail purchase in central and northern Wisconsin at stores like Trig's and several local liquor stores. During our visit we were offered a free wine tasting with an explantation of how the wine was made and some great pairing suggestions. This is a great place to visit & stock up on some unique gift ideas for all occasions. Plan to spend some extra time for tasting!

Being in the mine adds a lot to the experience... you're seeing and feeling what the miners felt... except they didn't have the lights like you'll have. I'll also say that our mine tour guide, a student in the Geology program at Michigan Tech. was one of the best tour guides I've ever had for any tour. He is not only passionate and knowledgable about Geology, he knew so much detail about the Quincy mine on really every level, as well as the experiences and way of life of the miners themselves. I was floored by not only all he learned in order to be as knowledgable as he is, but also how much it's clear that he loves everything about the mine and miners... all while being a student with this as only a summer job. I was excited to take this tour. It was much, much more than I anticipated. If you go, bring warm clothing... I was in shorts and a thin long-sleeved shirt with a t-shirt underneath. That was NOT enough. Dress like it's a brisk winter day.

When we go out to eat at a restaurant we tip the waiter for their service... but when I've been in these types of tours I can't believe how many people don't tip! Not even a couple of bucks! The people giving these tours work harder, share more information , and in this case, do it for almost 3 hours. Much longer than the waiter who brings you a cheeseburger... so stop being so cheep... you know who you are! (End of sermon)! Our guide (Cam) was spectacular! She had so many interesting stories and knowledge of a world in a time that is long gone... (thank god!) The days of this type of deep mining by hand or handheld drill are long over with. Not just because it's not profitable, but because it was inhumane! (Well sadly more because it's not profitable ) Many people worked here until they died of lung issues or were deaf from the drills. Be prepared for at least a 2 1/2 hour tour in the depths of a tunnel in a mountain. Don't worry the paths are safe and large enough that it's shouldn't be a problem if you're worried about claustrophobic conditions. It is cold however... it stays around 40 degrees all year. And it is a little muddy so don't wear your good shoes. If you love history, or think seeing a defunct mine would be interesting, I highly recommend this tour. And give your guide a tip for gods sakes!

I had never visited this museum in all the years I've spent up north, so when my mom was here…read morevisiting, we decided to stop, as this kind of stuff is right up her alley. It's a small house with lots of nostalgia items from the era; games, TV Guides and a soda shoppe recreation in one of the rooms. The rest is dedicated to Dr Kate Newcomb, who famously traveled the northern WI area delivering babies and doing it many times in snowshoes. She was also honored on the old show "This is Your Life" with Ralph Edwards. It's an interesting way to spend an hour or more while visiting the area. It's run by volunteers and gratefully accepts donations, so pony up some cash to support this lovely local attraction!

Our boat was captained by Brian and his deck hand/entertainment of the night was Ben; both very professional and got us out and back in safely. Ben was fantastic on the acoustic guitar, excellent voice and sense of humor. It was a small group when we went but he still worked the crowd. The boat was clean and I appreciated that they had binoculars available in each bench seat so you could take advantage of seeing the sights. Ben also does some of the scenic tours so he threw in a few nuggets of info about the area in between songs but overall the focus was on the music and enjoying the views. Sunset was perfect! Would highly recommend.
