I've never had much Thai before, but this place has something called cheese rolls that pretty much changed my life. I was looking for a place with the classic mango sticky rice dessert, and I found the best spot, Dee Thai. I just get those two things and a plain fried rice, and it's just so delicious. I have been to this Thai restaurant several times now and the pad thai, eggplant, and a few other lunch dishes have been excellent. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large enough to share. Lunch comes with an egg roll and soup of your choice. The coconut soup was an unfortunate disappointment. The decor is very outdated and the seating is ripped and lumpy so not the best place to impress an early-on date. Well....the place is clean and both of the servers were nice. You can tell they do a lot of take-out business and because of that, their dine-in service lacks a good bit. We came in and after standing around for 3-5 minutes with both servers helping take-out customers, we were told to sit anywhere with barely a glance. No big deal really...busy is busy no matter what the business is. So we sat at a table and waited...and waited...and waited. After a good bit of time I got up and snagged two menus from the bar as the two servers continued to help take-out customer. The ladies that were siting next to us seemed to be in the same boat. So I took inventory of the menu while we waited and chatted with my dinner partner about our week. One of the servers came around with water about 10 minutes later, for both tables. Took our order and then hoped over to the table next to us for a repeat. The food came quickly. I ordered the mixed veggies in brown sauce with chicken and my dinner guest ordered the cashew chicken with veggies and I ordered a side of Basil spring rolls. Both entrees looked the same when brought out, sans the cashews on mine. With our plates came a pretty silver bowl of steamed rice. I asked for rice bowls, since I eat most meals consisting of steamed rice, veggies and sauce from a bowl. The male server looked at me like I just asked him to wash my car and buff the tires for free, but he turned and left, coming back a short time later with small soup bowls...that will do. Mid way through our meal I asked him for some red pepper sauce or the red pepper powder...once again he looked at me with shock and awe...then proceeded to tell me that both were very spicy and that I should be careful....thanks babe...I get that...if I asked for it then certainly this white chick gets it. As for the food it was on the bland side for me. Not being Thai but knowing how to cook, I could have made both of these dishes at home and had them turn out better. I'm not saying I won't end up here again, but if I do then I will more than likely do take-out and will order one of the curry based dishes. I scoped out a table that ordered three of the curry based dishes, as we were leaving and those looked WAY more interesting then what we had just eaten....so maybe I just ordered wrong. read more

Came here for the first time Friday night. It is located in same plaza as Kroger and wasn't busy. It's very clean and spacious- plenty of tables. I've tried those dishes: Penang curry with beef, basil fried rice with shrimp, and pad kee mao with shrimp. The food arrived in about 10-15 minutes. The Penang curry was very good and well seasoned. Pad kee mao was awesome as well. The fried rice was okay, I thought they gave too much rice and less shrimp. Overall still had a good dining experience. read more

I didn't even know there was Thai restaurant in this strip mall, but decided to stop in after finishing some work at BOA. Like other Yelpers, I was surprised that this place was deserted at lunch time, but I just figured I got there before the rush. The food is average and one of the reasons may be the menu, which contains all the flashy names that Americans have come to expect with Thai food, but none of the flair of a more traditional spot (like Nan) or a street food-type place like Tuk Tuk in Buckhead. I looked at the lunch specials and decided to go with the Basil Eggplant with tofu. I was very surprised flipping the menu over not to see any Tom Yum soup. When I asked about it, I was told that it was not available at lunch time - only the Coconut Chicken soup was ready. I tried the soup and was very disappointed. If Thai soup is just a heavy dose of coconut milk, chicken and some kaffir lime then anyone can make this stuff at home. My eggplant dish was good, but not spectacular. Overall, I found the food very average. I would like to give this place another shot at dinner time. read more

Highly recommend! I was craving for Pad Thai and Larb and this place did not disappoint!! The Pad Thai was flavorful albeit on the sweet side. That could be a regional variability but the noodles were such a great vessel for the flavors. I'm docking a star because there was scant veggies and tofu and more of each would break up the starch. After 2.5 hours of hiking the Tallulah Gorge in Tallulah Falls, GA my sis and I decided to stop here because we refused to wait another hour in traffic to get to our final destination while we were hungry and tired. So we searched some restaurants in the Alpharetta area and settled on this restaurant. We arrived here around 5:30PM and it was not busy at all. The place is darkly lit, but has a wonderful ambience. We were greeted to two very kind women and seated promptly and gave us water. Then we ordered! Idk what goes on in their kitchen, but we literally received our beautiful, delicious and well-proportioned entrees within five minutes! Our entrees were so big, we literally had to take half of what we could not finish to go. My sis got the Yellow Coconut Curry with tofu and rice and I got the Pad Kee Mao--both were incredibly delicious! I was pleased to know that they do not use fish sauce as a base for their dishes and instead use soy sauce, so their items can certainly be made vegan-friendly. Although I am vegan, fish sauce has made me sick anyway even when I was previously a meat eater, so that certainly eliminated the possibility of cross contamination. Dee Thai is always a treat for me when I'm in the area. The first Thai dish I ever tried was Massaman Chicken (years ago). It included chicken, cashew nuts, avocado, onions, and potato. Since then it's been difficult to find a restaurant that includes the same ingredients. Far too often the cashews are substituted with peanuts and the avocado is left out altogether. Dee Thai is the first Thai restaurant in Atlanta that makes the dish perfectly! And the portions are large enough that it lasts me for two days. The ambiance is nice - clean, quiet, with dimly lit lights for a romantic dinner. The staff is outstanding. They are incredibly friendly and they go out of their way to make sure you're satisfied. I haven't yet gotten enough of their Massaman chicken chicken to try other dishes, but hopefully I will graduate and move on to my next favorite. For now, I will stick to Dee Thai for a wonderful Thai meal. read more

I started out with the tea rose. Ingredients were pretty fresh, but when it was re-heated, the temperature was inconsistent throughout. Parts were room temperature. Chicken coconut soup had too much galangal, but otherwise would have been pretty good. So first two courses could have been much better, but were off. I noticed most of the rave review had a curry dish; most of the dissenting did not. I got the beef massaman curry. Hey they actually did make it the requested Thai hot. Thought the sauce was a bit thick and not as flavorful as others I've had elsewhere. Despite being biased by the fact the waitress was certainly Thai hot, service was adequate at best. Both another customer and I had to flag down our servers. There are just too many better options for me in the area to rush back. read more

Sad that I'm writing this, because Dee Thai (once upon a time) was always a 5-star spot for me for lunch during the business week. This place is falling. It's like the success has gone to their head and now (IMO) they don't really value their customers. Today I went solo for lunch and wasn't even greeted when I walked in as there were only two servers in a full restaurant. So I sat myself. After a few minutes a female server came with a glass of water and left (even though I was ready to order). A few minutes later a male server came and took my order (Panang Curry). Took longer than usual to get the coconut soup... which was good as usual. But when my order came, it was lukewarm at best. Definitely not enjoyable. So mentioned it to the male server who took my plate and gave it to the female server. I'm thinking they're going to make a fresh order until I heard him told her to put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Really?!?!?! I think I was more upset that he said that out loud instead of discretely. A few minutes later, my plate is re-presented to me and you can tell that it was microwaved from the edges of the curry sauce and the burnt smell of the rice. So to avoid eating that rice I asked for a side of rice, that's been free in the past. So I had a combination of hot fresh rice and microwave panang curry. Not what anyone should get from a restaurant. On a sidenote: There was another employee there... must have been the cook because he kept coming into the eating area with a dirty white apron on as if he was checking on the scene. One time, he came out with two plates and basically placed the plates on the bar counter area where people pay for take out orders. Really?!?!?! The only thing they did efficiently was present my bill and swipe my credit card. And charged me for the additional rice I needed to replace the burnt smelling rice. Like I said... this used to be a spot I'd recommend for lunch. But now... I wouldn't. The prior time I was there with a co-worker who never been, they completely messed up our orders, then told us that we told them the wrong thing. Forgive me... but being allergic to shellfish, I don't think I'd ask for my meal to come with shrimp. But I digress. I hope whoever owns Dee Thai reads the reviews and return Dee Thai to the great place it "used" to be. read more

We've been customers for years, usually ordering once or twice a month. I picked up take-out for the whole family last night. As I was eating my green curry, I noticed something strange. I spooned it around to find a well-cooked German cockroach. This is the small variety; they are indicative of large-scale infestations. I quickly packed all the food back up, and took it back to the restaurant. The staff seemed not to know what to do. I had them reverse the charges for the bill. They did nothing else, even though I told them I had already eaten some of the affected food. This is the second incident I have had with Dee Thai. Last year I got food poisoning, after eating their red curry. Based on the timing, I suspected what I had for lunch, and not the curry. However, now I am not so sure. read more

Service was blah~ these girls looked like it was first day! they seemed a bit clueless. Food was blah~ I ordered the tom yon soup, pad thai, seven seas fish or sthg, calamari, fried tofu, basil fried rice and all were average to below average. I hear they are good for their curry, and since I am not a big fan of curry, i passed. Okay so I'm a little surprised by some of the comments so far but I have to say that this place is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Atlanta. I mean, sure, Tamarind is great but I've been coming to this place for over 10 years, back when it used to be called Sala Thai (or any other name you remember it by) and the food has always been consistently great. Now whenever I come back to Alpharetta I make it a point to try and go to Dee Thai 'cause I love their food. I really like their lunch menu. Their Pad See Yu is one of my favorite dishes. The Red Curry is really good too. The portions are always really big (even for lunch) and the spice level is perfect. I LOVE spicy food and they always seem to find this perfect level of spicy that is just hot enough w/o being too hot. I give this place a 5 star. The service is great and the price is great. Who knew you could get great Thai food in a small Kroger strip mall in Alpharetta. Sure beats most of the Thai food I find in Chapel Hill... I think I may have to go and get food from there now :) read more

It's an average place for lunch ..I tried basil chicken ..the chicken was rubbery..an there was green beans in the mix!..the dish was served in under 3 mins ..this only means the chicken was already prepared(and simmering in boiling water).. I had a very nice dinner at Dee Thai on Saturday 2/17/19. The service was professional and attentive; the waiter shared about his experiences in Thailand, which was very nice. I ordered the chicken satay and spicy mixed vegetables with tofu. The satay was delicious, with a large amount of peanut sauce. Although the spicy vegetables could have been a bit spicier, they were fresh and prepared well. The next time I visit I would not hesitate to order the same, or new, dishes; however, I'd likely request additional spiciness. I'm just usually hesitant to do so in case the dishes are prepared "Thai Hot," which would have been much too spicy for my U.S. palate. read more

I'm so glad I live a mile away from this place. Probably some of the best Curries I've ever tasted. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Masamun Curry is probably one of the popular ones, really complex rich flavors not so spicy, I'd say a good starter for those who've never tried real curry before. I personally love the Red Curry, intense, bold flavors from this wonderful mix of spices, this one turns up the heat in a very good way. I was a little worried when I walked in at lunchtime and the place was deserted. This usually means the food or the service is awful. But since I had time on my hands and curiosity leading the way, I took a seat. It was maybe 3 seconds before a water came and poured me my water and took my drink order. I was able to order my food less than 5 minutes later and it came out in under 10 minutes. These guys are speedy when the crowd is small. I ordered the Pad See Yu and it was amazing! To be honest it was the best Pad See Yu I have had in a long time. The portions are enormous and the price is right. I also ordered tea and it was great. Excellent meal for under $10. I like Dee Thai, and am tempted to say it is dee-lightful and dee-licious just to try to be amusing, but will try to forego such phonetic foolishness in order to properly review this restaurant. I usually judge a Thai restaurant with the classic Pad Thai dish, and Dee Thai holds its own in presenting theirs. All the curries are spot on, rice and noodle dishes always consistently good. The service is friendly, sometimes great, sometimes okay, but never bad. The environment is casual, but with enough of a touch of class to make it a good spot for date night or business lunch. They have had a running special on Elephant beer, two for $5. I have never had a bad experience here. The predictability of the food and service make me a fan!
