I bought new jewelry for my helix piercing and during the appointment the piercer fitted it with a backing that was too short. Over the next few days I noticed it was pinching my ear and eventually the backing popped out completely. Thankfully I noticed when it happened because the jewelry itself is expensive and I could have easily lost it. I live about an hour away, so I wasn't able to return to the shop until about two and a half weeks later. When I came back and explained what happened, I was told there was nothing they could do because too much time had passed, so I would have to pay for a replacement backing. The employee told me they generally expect people to return within one week, maybe two, as a "good faith" measure, but she said there is no actual stated/written policy. I explained that I understood the idea of a good-faith time frame, but in this situation it was pretty clear that the backing had simply been sized incorrectly. If she had tried to put the earring back in with the original backing, it would have been obvious because it physically would not fit back into my ear at all. I was then told the most they could offer was 30% off the new backing because they couldn't "give away free jewelry." The piercer who helped me that day was very kind and actually came over while I was checking out to make sure the replacement backing had been comped, but the employee handling checkout said no because too much time had passed. I ultimately had to pay for the replacement backing as well as the fee to have it installed. After being a loyal Deep Roots customer for years and always recommend them to other people, this was really disappointing. I completely understand mistakes happen, but I would have expected a simple sizing mistake to be corrected without charging me again, especially after I had to drive an hour back to the shop to have it fixed. The lack of willingness to stand behind a mistake made during the original appointment and make things right has made me question whether I'll continue coming here in the future. read more

My husband and I came here to get our ears pierced. We walked in and were greeted right away. They were able to take us in. We filled out the online form, chose our jewelry, and waited for our piercer, Robert. When we went into the room, things looked sanitized and organized. Robert is very friendly and made sure things were constantly sterile and clean. Any time he touched something, he would change his gloves. He was very professional and great at keeping me calm while he was piercing my ears. I got my third piercing on my earlobe and my husband for his first re-done. I have gotten both my first and second earlobe piercings from Deep Roots. I got my firsts when I was 8 (they have since raised the age minimum, I believe it's now 12) and had a great experience. They had security measures in place to make sure my parent and I consented and did a great job of making the experience as smooth and unintimidating as possible! I would absolutely recommend this spot to any parents looking to get their child's ears pierced. I went in very last minute to get my seconds earlier this year because it's in a convenient location and I remembered my positive experience from my first piercing. I took my child here because I thought this would be better than a shopping mall. We had an appointment, but still had to wait around past our appointment time and there was nowhere to sit. Despite following the care routine, my child's lobes became infected. When we went back to the shop to follow up, (again waiting way beyond our scheduled appointment time), they said that the lobes were naturally thicker than most people and that they needed to use longer posts than what was originally installed. I was unhappy that we had to pay for new (expensive) earrings and another piercing visit (no discount offered) when given the wrong length of earrings in the first visit. read more

PROS: good location, great business hours and staff, fantastic collection of diamonds or fake stones, social distancing rules followed, spacious indoors so easy to maintain space, online scheduling system is very easy and usually has plenty of availabilities. I especially love their rotating guest piercers, I got my 3 piercings done by one and it was a fantastic experience! CONS: Absolutely awful parking, biggest issue for me is the poor and inefficient customer service, which took away from everything else. The main manager has zero customer service experience and was rude and not helpful several times to me and other customers, no direction provided when there's a long line forming, 2 of my 3 piercings have fallen out and I have to go and get them re-done. Went to this store with full intentions of getting a nose ring bc I had lost my other one. the people were very unhelpful, I said the gages and the millimeters I needed all to get the wrong size. The person said I could come back if I have any problems not giving full information about return policies atm. Coming back literally 15 mins later they said I couldn't make any swaps (given I know they aren't going to resell it) because I didn't spend 10 more dollars for someone of their own business to install it & it still would've been wrong & not been able to resell. there could've been more clarification about the process of this. I had such an awesome experience at Deep Roots for my first nostril piercing. Deep Roots is a clean and welcoming environment with knowledgeable and willing-to-assist staff. The person assisting me with jewelry before my appointment was very helpful in helping me narrow down a piece of jewelry for a nose piercing that would be in for a while during the healing process - which for me, is a tough decision to make. Today was the second visit I have had at this location, and I just want to say how much I appreciate the staff's kindness and the beautiful variety of jewelry. My first visit was with my 8yo child who was very excited (but understandably scared) to get their ears pierced. Lexi, the person behind the counter, was so gentle and patient with my kiddo and really eased them into knowing they were in a safe place where my child was in charge of their own body. The piercer talked my child through the whole process, and eased their worries. The piercings have healed beautifully, too. Today, I came in for a conch piercing, and all was great, yet again. I don't recommend this place for a nose piercing. I received a nose piercing in october from this store & they sell a nose stud so SHORT that it literally dug into my nose and caused me pain and i had to rip it out of my nose and it just caused so many issues even after I replaced it with a hoop that I just had to remove my jewelry and let the hole close. It's disappointing, they should've given me a longer stud that won't get stuck in nose tissue.. I don't think they should be making people buy jewelry from their store then offer nose studs that short. Originally I was intending to get pierced and get a tattoo with my friend. Piercing addict that I am, the piercer told me I have too many piercings healing. She was very unfriendly, blunt and unsmiling so I'm actually kind of glad I couldn't get pierced that day. With that, I decided I'd just buy some jewelry since they sell some very high quality jewelry brands. The front desk people were kind of helpful but overall unenthusiastic. My background is in jewelry and I am a body piercer who works at a tattoo shop, so I have a lot of knowledge about piercing and jewelry. Had this not been the case and I was your average piercee looking to upgrade I think it would have been difficult to find what I needed. They weren't as dry and unkind as the piercer though so I wasn't really bothered. Now to the tattoo: it was CRAZY OVERPRICED. Like I said I work in a tattoo shop and when I came home and told the artists at my shop they confirmed what I had felt; I had been totally ripped off. It's only a 3 inch tall tattoo about 1 inch wide with some very simple color and it cost me $450 without tip! I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't a local or what but it really completely spoiled the whole experience. Our artist wasn't overly friendly but she was nice and the tattoo is good. But the price tag isn't appropriate. At all. I know that tattooing is a luxury service and that you don't have to get tattooed. But honestly, that doesn't mean that it's okay for shops or artists to charge you MORE THAN DOUBLE what is reasonable. If she had charged me $300, even $350, while that's a bit high, I would not be writing this review right now. But $450 is so far out of the realm of reason I feel compelled to warn people. Overall: mediocre service with low energy staff and ridiculous tattoo pricing. The best part of the shop is their jewelry collection which is a little more reasonable in their pricing. I can't recommend Deep Roots to anyone visiting Seattle. read more

I have been pierced at Deep Roots a couple times now, and they are just the best!! Most recently, I went in with little idea of what I wanted, and John knew exactly what to do (while also being just so fun to talk to). A couple years ago I got a vertical labret; the piercer went slightly off center, pointed it out to me, and offered to redo it with absolutely no complaints. I appreciate the integrity so much, and the piercing is now straight, perfect, and healed so easily. Everyone at Deep Roots is just so kind and friendly, and knowledgeable in a non-patronizing way. Great experience all around--if you're a piercing noob, this is the place to go. For background context, I got my ears pierced at a place at my local mall. With a piercing gun. When I was 12. Somehow, I managed to avoid a serious infection, but when the piercing bug bit me again 20 years later, I knew better than to try my luck with that method again. Enter Deep Roots. I'd had the opportunity to accompany a buddy there when he got another ear piercing a few years back, so I knew that I'd be in good hands (no pun intended). The scheduling system was a little odd (looks like the piercers post their availability about a week in advance), but once I realized that, I was able to book an appointment for the following weekend with my preferred piercer (Eloise, a recent graduate of their apprenticeship program). Check-in was straightforward since I filled out the release form ahead of time. I arrived about 30 minutes early to pick out jewelry. Everyone I talked to was happy to help me determine the right piece (and piercing location). I had enough time to admire the rest of the selection--looks like a great variety of sizes and materials. I will caution(?) earring-wearers that their prices are by the single, rather than the pair, and that you're paying for real metals (i.e., gold). The piercing itself went as smoothly as could be. The room was small and clean. Eloise told me how to position myself on the table, talked me through each step (including when and how to inhale/exhale as the needle went through)--in short, the perfect person for a piercing rookie. If I decide to get another piercing, I'll know where to go. read more

This review is for piercing services. The piercers here know what they are doing and are very professional and capable once you are in the room receiving your service. There are, however, two drawbacks: First--for the love of god buy your jewelry elsewhere, the pricing is obscene. If you buy from the shop, be prepared to spend $100-500 PER EARRING. You can literally get Gucci earrings for the same price (or CHEAPER) than their least expensive options. Branded Tiffany & Co studs are only $250-500 for the PAIR. [Edit to add: You need implant grade jewelry for piercing, which you can find for like $10+ per earring on bodyartforms(dot)com.] And second, be prepared to WAIT. I've always booked an appointment for the services I've received here and have shown up at the appropriate time for the appointment I scheduled and yet they are consistently late. The last (and final) time I've gone I had scheduled an appointment for a post size change at the 5 1/2 week mark after being told to return in 4-6 weeks for the downsize, we arrived to an empty lobby and three employees behind the desk yet weren't seen for our service until 30 minutes past our appointment time...just to be told we had scheduled the appointment too early (despite coming back exactly when instructed by the piercer) and we should come back in a few weeks. I recognize that the piercer was at fault poor time management, not the employees behind the counter, but it's such a bad look to have so much staff milling about while we wait half an hour in an empty lobby for our scheduled appointment. read more

This place is actually super, super amazing. 10/10 would rec and come again. 1) Jason the piercer is super knowledgeable, friendly, and has good taste/ sense of what would look good. He placed my helix and conch perfectly to a) my Pinterest board I showed him (LOL) and b) adjusted it according to how my ear is shaped. Even explained the Y of where the outer and inner curves of my ear meets and how that horizontal line across is a good place to place the piercing. He also read my mind when I felt I wanted the dot a little higher and he already knew it would look better higher. Props, totally awesome dude 2) super clean and nice facility. I have trust nothing will go wrong and I feel at ease. I've been going to this location since 2012. However the last 2 ish years all the jewelry changes and new piercings I have gotten have fallen out. I'm not sure if they're using a new piercing technique or not, but I will no longer be going to this shop anymore as it's not worth risking ~ $1,000.00 worth of jewelry and new piercings closing up. Absolutely amazing and friendly staff from start to finish. As a first-timer getting anything pierced, I was honestly, a bit embarrassed. Being in a city where having tatts and rings is pretty much a way of life for most people I figured they would just brush me off. Their thorough website is what actually drew me in. They gave the most accurate prices than anywhere else I checked out. On top of that reserving an appointment was seamless as well. I was also blown away by the customer service when I first came in. I would say this place is very woman friendly - zero intimidation or pressure to buy anything. The gal who went over prices and pieces put together an estimate for me, which I loved because then I solidly knew what I was getting and spending. The girl who did my ears was also super thorough and kind - absolutely walked me through the whole thing. I think for me aside from the place being clean and friendly was that they spent time with me in this process and I did not feel rushed for one second.
