This happened several years ago, some of us paid (I did) with the promise that "this is a one-time event." The Board of Directors are irresponsible and dishonest by spending beyond their funds and milking we Emeritus members to pay again. You and they are ignoring the fact that Emeritus members joined the club with the understanding that in the future they would have Emeritus standing and exempt from yearly dues. Myself, I joined in the late 1980's-early 1990's. A few years later I became the Secretary of the Greenville Gun Club for several years. We did not cheat Emeritus members then. Myself, my wife and son shot the high power DCM (CMP now) and have 3 M1 Garands as a result. So, is this something Emeritus members should expect from the Board of Directors every time they feel like it? Reverse your call for Emeritus members to pay this illicit fee.

Didn't deliver boat on time 2. when I picked up the boat I had too get the salesman to get the cover, life jackets and other things for me. 3. they never installed the items agreed on when buying the boat. I had to go get the parts from them and install myself. 4. they scheduled my vessel to install items when they were closed. 5. I had to go too the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to help me register my vessel which they were supposed to send all paperwork to. Yup you guessed it they lied and said the paperwork was sent. After I had The Dept of Natural Resources call them the registration showed up like a week later.

The manager and staff were friendly and helpful. I got there by mistake. When I left the wonderful Whitewater Falls North Carolina State Park, I apparently skated by Moody Springs - where I was told I could get great water right out of the spring. I basically fell off the mountain down to flatland in South Carolina and arrived, 10 miles later, at South Carolina route 11. I went looking for a convenience store that would still be open at 8o'clock and caught this place just before it closed. I asked the cashier if she knew a place to park my van overnight. When she did not immediately suggest anyplace, I asked about the truck pullout just 100 yards back up the road and she said it never gets used for anything. We did park there overnight and it worked great. They were literally switching off the lights and I quickly asked if there was a place I could get water. She showed me to the hose on the right side of the building and I got great cold water in my big jug. There is a huge space off to the right to walk your dog. The dark roast coffee was nice and strong and very hot - and $.50 in my mug! I've never seen a price that cheap. There is apparently very good boating nearby at Lake Jocassie. And I highly recommend, even if you had not planned on this, to run up the mountain into North Carolina to see Whitewater Falls State Park - which I read is "the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi". It is certainly quite amazing. To view it, there is a big parking pull off to the right - and then the State Park Visitors Center 8 miles further on your right. But don't stop at the first pullout, unless you want to take a very treacherous .8 mile trail down to an overlook. That trail (part of the 80-mile Foothills Trail) is made for seasoned hikers who don't mind risking their lives going down the gorge. One very experienced - and very young and strong - hiker coming through, who had walked the whole Appalachian Trail last year, said that it is "a lot shorter than the AT, but much rougher hiking: way more steep climbs and descents". My personal experience was harrowing: one set of stairs was built for Sasquatch, not humans - and I used the big rock stairs not as steps but as things to grab onto to keep from falling down the mountain. This 74-year-old cowboy had a blast during my one hour down and 90 minutes back up - but also felt a little lucky to still be alive when my dog and I got back to the parking lot. We never made it as far as the Overlook, but I felt like I had been personally tested and achieved my next level of mountaineer status. My little dog Panchita had a blast for the whole 2 1/2 hours - and was still chasing off into the bushes after squirrels at the end of the hike. This caused me to reconsider our whole "homo erectus" experiment with rising up onto 2 feet: we do get a much better view of the treetops and the mountains and the sky from this angle, but we are a lot less steady on our feet and have a longer way to fall. Most people will want to skip that first pullout, which basically has nothing to see, and go 100 yards down the road to the really nice little trail and great overlook.

We went tubing here yesterday for the first time, even though we have lived in Greenville for over…read more20 years. We booked everything online and signed our waivers ahead of time, which I highly recommend because it made check-in super quick. The company has a convenient gift shop that sells snacks, drinks, candy, towels, and shirts, and they even rent out coolers if you need one. We brought our own snacks and drinks but forgot towels, so we purchased a couple there. I also appreciated that they offer to hold your car keys at the front desk--I used this service just in case. They offer cooler floats for $10 and paddles for $5. We rented a paddle, although it didn't help much. Next time, I'll probably rent a cooler tube to store my bag instead of holding it the whole time. The river was perfect until a sudden thunderstorm rolled in about an hour from the finish. Staff quickly pulled buses onto the riverbank and got everyone out safely. My ten-year-old daughter was terrified, but the team's swift and calm response really impressed us. Every staff member we met was friendly and helpful, including the owner, who personally checked on everyone when we returned to the office. Their customer service was top-notch, and because of it, we can't wait to come back--hopefully to float the entire river next time! I would highly recommend giving them a try, especially if you've never been tubing before.

Head on down the hill, strap everything together, and let the current take you for a ride. The weather was great, nice and sunny. The flow is slow but nice. Took us a lilllll under 2 hours to come down to the end. There's plenty of staff around during the check in process and when coming out the river. Definitely something I'd do again this summer.
